Snape is on his way to meet his fellow Death Eaters, not really looking forward to torturing yet another innocent. Tonight it will be someone Snape remembers from his past.

I'm so glad the truth came out about Severus. I'm on pins and needles here, with Hermione leaving to find him. Please update soon!

Well, I hope they're all thoroughly ashamed of themselves! I only hope that Severus is all right...

Even though I was fairly certain that Sasha was Sev's daughter, I was surprised they were married and hiding it. Your telling of the tale was great. Hermione sure ripped them. Even though they didn't have the information about their marriage, it's always, "Let's get Severus!"
I am confused about the Sectumsempra spell causing hallucinations. In canon the spell cuts. It cuts magically to the point that any body part severed by the spell can not be reattached. So, bleeding to death from an untended cut would be the thing. Unless you meant that he was in such pain and in loss of blood that he was delirious? Or is this poetic bending of the canon? Not to mention that Severus invented that spell and Harry knows ...
Looking forward to the next chapter!

Hi,
Response from chivalric (Author of At All Costs)
First, thanks for reviewing - each positive word on my story makes me happy *g* And you are right: I did bend the canon a bit, adding a mental component to the Sectumsempra Spell. It cuts the flesh, it causes severe bleeding, but it meddles with the mind as well (in my version). Neither Harry nor Ginny recognised it as there are many cutting spells out there, ivented by Death Eaters, and they are all treated with the same sung incantation. Without that twist in the story, Severus naturally would have told them everything, and I wouldn't have a story to write ;-)

chivalric, you are an amazing author. this chapter had me on the edge of my seat the whole time. the love he has for her and his child and having to sit there and watch them get attacked like that, what a strong man. most would have just ran right in and died with them not thinking ahead. i hope the next chapter is up soon. i look forward to reading it.

Hello,
What a compelling read! Congratulations on coming up with a very novel and dramatic plot. I am pleased to say that I guessed in the opening chapter that Sasha was Snape's and that he and Hermione were still "together" if clandestine and that he had to dissimulate, waiting for the right moment to strike. I guessed ... or should I say hoped ... because though there are hints in the way your wrote it, there was more ambiguity. Sasha pushing him the wand seemed to indicate she trusted him; that was a nice touch.
I enjoyed Chapter 3; gave me a nice bout of catharsis for my anger over how the Order treats Snape in canon (and fanon). Very satisfying to hear Hermione tell them off ("slap!").
Finally, this plot really does bring out the horrors of war and spying and shows the meaning of true courage. Interesing that Snape (and Hermione's) courage requires sacrifice, but more importantly, clear headedness. They had to think dispassionately about the situation, no matter how hard it was to do that. Not only was Snape heroic for acting as he did, but how many women would understand why he did it that way?
I was glad to see you write that you had finished the story. I was going to beg you not to abandon it. I hope you gave them a happy (more or less) ending.

Thank you for that great review *grins all over the face* I found it most satisfying to write fanfiction, and even if I wanted to, I couldn't abandon a story. They nag me, they want to be written, and unless I get struck by lightning or sued by Ms Rowlins lawyers for playing with her characters, I will always finish the plot. The last two chapters are in the caring hands of my tremendous beta, pipedreamer, and I think I will be able to put them into the cue at the weekend. I truly hope you will tell me then if you likd the ending.

Oh, a twist! Poor Severus, but stupid Order people for always doubting him.
I love the name Sasha!

It is hard for people to accept what has to happen during war, even when they are living the war as well.
Very intriguing story. I am looking forward to reading the rest of it.

It just goes to show you that some people can't see what's right in front of their faces. Why have none of them figured it out by now -- that Sasha is almost certainly Severus's child? Pale skin, dark eyes, dark hair...who else do we know in the magical world who looks like that? Severus, that's who!

Wow. Another stunner. I hope more chapters are already written!

Oh. My. Freaking. God.
That is a hell of an opening. Luckily for me, I didn't read this when first posted so there is another chapter waiting for me.
But what an opening.
I am putty in your hands.

Wow what an amazing chapter. I really think Sasha is Severus'. He didn't know she had his baby and he probably is wondering if she is his. This is just my thought. I really truly love this story so please update as soon as possible.

The next chapter should go into cue somewhen end of the week - I hope you will like what I reveal in it! And many thanks for reviewing *g*
Yes, why did he save them in the end? Severus seemed to know that such things would happen that night. How did he? And why have Hermione been avoiding him at all cost those past years? I wonder if Snape is Sasha's father.
Response from chivalric (Author of At All Costs)
Thanks for your review - I added a bit of information to the third chapter concerning that avoiding-problem. Without you, I woule have overseen it *g*

I'm glad to be of help.
Wow. This one packs a punch. I am guessing that there are things that Harry, Ginny and the others don't know about Severus, Hermione and Sasha yet. But this is going to lead to a whole lot of revelations, or at least I think so. This is a very compelling story and I look forward to finding out more. Thanks for posting, JoAnne

I know it was pretty clear from the previous chapter, and you've given us more hints here, but I admit the curiosity that found its way into my username is definitely whining for answers as to what in hell is going on. So I'm just going to sit back and, you know, watch. I trust you'll tell me in time.
Response from chivalric (Author of At All Costs)
Hihi, I caused curiosity - exactly my intention! More to come next week, I guess, depending on my beta. Thanks for reviewing!
Not fair! Snape saved lives, and that wasn't good enough? Grrr!

It seems as though the child is Severus'. Hopefully Hermione will not hate him for what he let happen to them. I am curious as to where Severus took Hermione and her daughter. The headquarters of the Order of the Phoenix, perhaps?

OMG-- that was intense. Looking forward to the rest, dark hair and blue eyes, hmm Harry would carry both those genes even though he was given Lily's green eyes.
Response from chivalric (Author of At All Costs)
You talk about the child? She has dark hair and dark eyes, like bitter chocolate. Will check if I made a mistake here, suggesting that she has blue eyes. Thanks for reviewing, I will update today or tomorrow.
