Seventh-year student Hermione Granger decides to marry the one eligible wizard who did not ask for her--the horrid but powerful Severus Snape. All is not sweetness and light. Be careful what you ask for. Or, as has been said by many a wise witch, "Marry in haste; repent in leisure." MLC

Care of Magical Creatures recently received two awards on "Secrets of the Dark Vaults," a Russian fanfic site. Best NC-17 and Best Maxi Translation. The Nine-Year Plan was awarded Best Mini-Fic! I'm delighted to be in translation and to please the readers in Russia!

With the completion of Care of Magical Creatures my fanfic output is going to slow way down, but if you want to be sure to know when new fics post, please follow me on twitter. I don't tweet much, but I'll surely tweet that kind of thing.
About Mia
I came to the world of Harry Potter relatively early, after first resisting it because it just seemed too trendy. But when the first book came out in paperback in the US I picked it up at the airport when I was about to catch a flight, and two chapters in knew I would be ordering the original from amazon.co.uk in hardcover as soon as I landed.
I came to fanfic late, waiting until after I'd read DH. That means I've been totally obsessed with the fanfic world of Harry Potter, and most specifically the SS/HG ship, since August of '07.
I'm helplessly and hopelessly hooked.

Chocs are always appreciated!
I love the "almost" kiss scene in the Great Hall , and the fact that Hermione caught the Professor blushing when inquiring about the ol' 69. *giggle* You have created a good balance of snarky, soft and vunerable in regards to Severus. Just the way I like him! Thank Hermione, btw, for changing the room color. Green is so much more restful and easy on the eyes.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Oh, I do love making the professor blush. Heh.
Thank you!
I am glad that Severus actually wasn't trying to kick Hermione out of his room. Since he would've had to talk to Minerva before the almost "kissing incident" in the Great Hall, that would not be the reason.I wonder how Severus will take the information that Hermione dropped all of her classes. Maybe he won't be so upset when he learns that she still plans on learning all of the information. Several of the professors weren't being challenging enough anyway.I definitely liked how their morning started. It's nice to know that they can try new things to please each other without having sex.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thanks so much! Of course I'm rather old-fashioned (pre-Clintonian definition of "sex") in that I consider oral sex very much sex! However in this world I've created, it doesn't count as "sex" if it can't result in pregnancy--penetration and completion.
poor hermione, has a point. loving this story and thanks so much.

Thank YOU!
It seems to me that House boundries seem to be blurring between the two of them. We may have a more Slytherin Hermione yet!

I'm so glad to see an affectionate and loving Severus. I don't want him like that all the time but it fills my romantic nature to have him like that from time to time. Thank you for another beautiful chapter.

You know, this story makes me cry half the time. You really write their emotions so well.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thank you. Emotions are my favorite thing.

Hmmm, I'm not sure if Hermione made the right decision or not. It's best for he school, but is it for her? Yes I'm sure she will get much more advanced training, but class rooms have a place too.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Time will tell whether it was the right decision or not. But yes, classrooms definitely have their place.

I don't know what to say... when I first read this story I never thought it'll be something as complex as this. And now, not only they had to deal with Voldemort being the ever watchful, more believable leader, they had to deal with other people condemning their marriage. And what a way to deliver the plot! Treating us to their first 69 position first!!
But it was sweet, really for Severus to get her a room with *the* view. I didn't realize it until later (I think my mind was still at the part where she had to let go of her education because what other people say).
Can it get any harder for them now??
Can't wait for more. And wonder how Severus is going to take with her news on her education...
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thank you so much! As for 69, they've actually done other things, but Hermione is always an overachiever!

The chat with McGonagall seemed long overdue - but I keep forgetting how little time really has passed. And I'm at once really angry with her, and understanding the school's problem... and glad she's not openly hostile to Hermione any longer, at least.
I do appreciate the way Hermione and Severus are getting closer, bit by bit. Until the next hurdle comes along...
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thank you. I don't think there are many (if any) really bad guys here. Each character has their own needs and demands and Sev and Hermione aren't top of anybody's priority list except their own. I don't dislike the other MLCs I've read--I love them. But it just occurred to me as I was writing this one that it seems most of the time Hermione is surrounded by a support system of sorts, and what would happen if that support disappeared. I think you can build a case for ANY of the characters to be upset about their marriage. I just made them ALL be upset by it. Ooops.

My goodness I so thought he was kicking her out too. I was getting so mad at Sev 'cause he just keeps pushing her away. Breathes sigh of relief, he was just being thoughtful, who knew. I loved that she neally kissed him goodbye in the great hall and that he leaned in for the kiss. Made me laugh outloud.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Oh, thanks! You know, he just told her that he'd tear the castle apart stone by stone to find her, so I hoped she wouldn't look like an insecure ninny for jumping to that conclusion--but I think it's a not abnormal reaction for her to have
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
he has kept her so off balance.
And the almost kiss? Yes indeed, it makes me smile.

Oh, if only all those disapproving parents could witness the quality education she is getting! And, bless him, he does seem to be learning a thing or two as well.
You write like nobody's business!!
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Um, exactly which "lessons" should they be witnessing? LOL!

You do a magnificent job of writing sex scenes that are at once explicit and sweet, and never once tawdry or gratuitous. Wonderful!
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thank you so much! I mainly just try to write about the characters and what they're feeling at the time.

The attitude of the professors is simply deplorable! Hermione is ostracized form her classes simply because the teachers can't handle a few letters? It's the Ministry's fault with this blasted Marriage Law and the fact that the Malfoys would have abused her. It's sick! However, it's a good chapter - even if it did really ruffle my feathers!
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
I hope your feathers get smoothed quickly. I want to see what happens next in your fic!

Well some definate developments in this chapter. I am glad that Severus has apparently gotten beyond his reluctance to enjoy the physical aspect of his marriage. I loved that he blushed!I also think that the bloody parents need to butt out if it had been their child at risk they would certainly be singing another tune. I'm glad the sorting hat didn't put Hermione in Ravenclaw if that is how they are going to act.Well done againIrish
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Plus, if she were in Ravenclaw she would never have gotten thrown together with Severus!
Oh dear. That was a wonderfully satisfying chapter, but. . . what is Severus going to say? Oh dear, oh dear. . .
It was a terrific chapter, and you got all the emotions perfect. . . it really does almost make me cry. . . and the suspense! I would say I wouldn't be able to sleep. . . but I probably will be able to, after I've fretted and worried and wondered and speculated and finally decided that. . . I am crazy, and need to go to sleep because otherwise I'll be grumpy at church tomorrow.
Thank you so much!

I hope you slept--and the next chapter is in the queue!
Oh man - this cannot be happening - I cannot believe that the brighest witch to probably come through Hogwarts is being forced to give up her classes - this is a travesty of epic portions - she is worth 10 or more of some of the students that are leaving because of her marriage to Severus. Please - I hope that you work something out for her - it is a shame really that everyone is acting this way and for some reason - I do not think McGongall is doing this to help Hermione but for some other reason.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
McGonagall's always going to put first priority on the war and on the school, and I'm sure she doesn't view Hermione's marriage as a good thing for either. Still, she is very and genuinely fond of Hermione and does want to help her, as well. (Now that Hermione has "come to her senses," in Minerva's view.)
Good to see the happy couple so happy, for a change. Of course, circumstances being what they are, I doubt the bliss will last too long, but too much contentment would make for a really dull story. Life is miserably unfair, as Hermione is starting to learn.
Keep up the quick updates!
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Ah well, temporary bliss is better than no bliss at all!
It feels like they are becoming a true couple now. Thanks for another great chapter. I wait each week to see this one pop up on the list and drop everything to read right away. You could write four times as much for each chapter and I think it still wouldn't be enough. What fun. Thanks, JoAnne
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Oh dear. They make slow enough progress through the story as it is. If I wrote four times as much per chapter they really would progress at a snail's pace. (On the other hand, I think if I let them spend a lot more time cuddled in bed, neither would complain.)
I think my favorite part of this chapter was when she went to kiss him goodbye. Such a simple thing and yet they couldn't show that slightest public affection. It speaks volumns about their situation - both in public, and growing into each other.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Yes, that almost-kiss was something. I loved how he sat there rationalizing how he couldn't appear TOO cooperative, but he could lean slightly into it....
Beautiful story! I loved your characterizations of Severus and Hermione. Thank you so much for writing it.
*sniffle*
I'm so relieved that they've made up, well, sort of... Sev's demon of self destruction might well come back riding a nuke and waving a cowboy hat, but for the moment I'm glad they've found a moment's respite.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Okay, Dr.Strangelove!Severus has me howling with glee. LOL!
Their relationship is so messed up and I hope that they will be able to work through all the rough patches. The chapter was so sad but I liked how Severus demanded that she return to his bed or he would tear the castle apart brick by brick looking for her - it is a start.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Yes--Severus held back and couldn't reveal what he was thinking, until threatened with the idea that she wouldn't be back!
D'awww, poor Sevvie! And what the @*$# was Albus thinking?!?! Nosy prick.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Albus is a control freak. Probably not a bad thing in a commander. LOL!
