I am in my late 50's and I didn't even start reading Harry Potter until after the third book came out. My granddaughter got me 'hooked on Potter,' and while surfing the net one day, I found a fanfiction site. That was it! My first story, "Renaissance," was published on Ashwinder a month later and I've been writing ever since. I am primarily a HG/SS shipper, but I also enjoy reading and writing RL/SS. I live in Tampa, Florida with my wonderfully adoring and supportive husband, and three completely spoiled cats. (Kallie, Mysha, and Smudge {who was the inspiration for the cat that Severus gives Hermione in my story "Renaissance."}) I'm always happy to correspond with my readers and I answer ALL reviews. I'm always looking for plot-bunnies, so feel free to throw some ideas out.

You got it spot on for someone who has been disfigured. It seems to be more traumatic to someone who is going through a life change such as becoming sexually active (a teen)etc. Although I would really hope that Hermione would have enough intestinal fortitude to not care what others thought of her looks. It is a very intreguing premise to bring these two together.

I'm happy to hear you think I've done a good job. As someone who has had to endure the stares and pointing fingers, I know how difficult it can be to be 'different'. We do have evidence in Canon that Hermione, although smart and capable, does have some insecurities. Thanks for reading and for taking the time to post your thoughts. It is appreciated.
this is a very good story so far. very different from anything that i have read thus far. keep up the good work and i look forward to reading more.

I'm so glad you are enjoying. Sometimes it's difficult to put a new 'spin' on characters that are so well-known and well-loved. I'm glad you think I've done a good job. The next chapter is in queue and will be ready for reading soon. Thanks for reading and for taking the time to post a comment.
An incredibly wonderful read. I can't wait for more! I'm sure that like Renaissance, this story will end up as one of my favourites.

I'm really enjoying this story! I commend you on your Hermione. It's obvious that her troubles have worn her down, but she manages them as best she can without whining about it. Well done! I can't wait for the rest! :)

I think this is fascinating -- well written, dialogue is realistic, characterizations not disturbingly AU. Looking forward to reading more.

I'm glad you like it! I will be uploading the next chapter within the next couple of days. The story is complete in ten chapters, so new chapters will appear regularly. Thanks for reading and for taking the time to leave a review.
Wow, what a great chapter. And nice and long. I'm enjoying their friendship and the trust they have developed. LOL, I am a bit curious though as to what Snape has on Scrimgeour.
I'm looking forward to your next chapter.
Response from StormySkize (Author of Tidings of Comfort and Joy)
This story certainly turned out to be longer than I had thought it would be when I first started writing it. As a matter of fact, I believe it was the longest story in the Winter Exchange. It is ten chapters and the worrd count is over 60,000. (My very first story was 39 chapters and around 90,000 words, so it's easy to see that I've learned to write longer chapters!) Alas, we never do discover exactly what Snape 'has' on Scrimgeour, but there is another confrontation with him coming up.I'm glad you are enjoying the storyy. Thanks for reading and for taking the time to review. It is greatly appreciated.
OMG, he's cooking for her. AND he does the dishes, too? I'm insanely jealous! :) Can I borrow him for a while? I loved seeing him have a sense of humor. I could totally understand Hermione's reaction - "Are you having me on?"
I loved when she called him for cake ... then he brought it!
My favorite part of this chapter has to be the tension-filled argument when she ends the glamour charm, forcing him to face his own demons and he trusts her with the story of his past, as well as what happened with Dumbledore. You did an excellent job with the section - it was evoked emotion without going over the top. Very well done.
Another lovely chapter. I enjoyed it very much.

I'm so glad you enjoyed. I really loved writing this fic. I love writing dialogue between Snape and Hermione. I like it when she turns just as 'Snape-ish' as he is! Thanks for reading and reviewing!
I enjoyed this newest chapter very much. Severus is still snappish, but he is also a human being responding to another human being (some folks, whose stories I do enjoy, write him as all snark and sarcasm, however I really like human Snape!) I'm glad he went and, er, changed Scrimgour's mind about disability payments to Hermione.
Response from StormySkize (Author of Tidings of Comfort and Joy)
Thank you so much. I have been accused of making Snape too out of character in some of my stories. I always like to think that underneath all the snark and sarcasm, he is basically a man of honour and humanity. I like to write him that way. I'm glad you like him, as well. There is still one more run-in with Scrimgeour to come! Thanks for reading and for taking the time to leave a comment.
Nice story so far, can't wait to see the next chapter.

This is off to a great start. I can't wait to find out how things develop. I hope you have more to post soon. Although this is predominately H/S, I wonder what will Harry say?
Response from StormySkize (Author of Tidings of Comfort and Joy)
I'm glad you like it! The story is complete in ten chapters, and I will post regularly. And, Harry will, indeed, have something to say about the situation! Thanks for reading and for taking the time to review.
Aww how cute!!!!
:')
Lol Harry's reaction
I think it is great that they are opening up to each other. What a great belivable way Sev grew up.
I just started reading some of your things so this was the next on the list. What a great beginning.
Once again, another one of your stories that I have thoroughly enjoyed. It is a very touching and moving story.
The changing relationship between Hermione and Severus is delightful and often caused me to laugh out loud whilst reading.
You are becoming one of my favourite authors and this is definitely one of my favourite stories.
Response from StormySkize (Author of Tidings of Comfort and Joy)
Thank you so much. I loved writing this story. I'm happy to know that you enjoyed it so much.
LOVED how pragmatic Hermione was, and how well you developped their healing (mental & emotional & physical) through this. :)
As a young woman also facing permanent facial disfigurment, I can relate to Hermione more than I'd ever realized. Thank you for making those of us who look a little different have a real personality and brain beneath it all. I truly believe I quite possibly owe my life to some of my friends and my boyfriend who have stood with me as I come to terms with the fact that I will never have a normal smile again. Because my damage is neuroligical (oddly permanent Bell's Palsy), there is no surgery or treatment that can restore my face to normal. Your story has moved me to tears. Returning to college was one of the most difficult things I had to do, learning to put up with the staring and odd glances, but eventually I will come completely to terms with what happened, and your story has been a stepping stone along the way. Thank you for writing this.
Response from StormySkize (Author of Tidings of Comfort and Joy)
My heart goes out to you because of your disfigurement. It is never easy to be 'different.' I am happy to learn, though, that you are coming to terms with your situation. I am gratified to learn that my story has helped you, even in a very small way. Thank you for reading and for taking the time to leave comments. And thank you for letting me know that my story touched you.P.S. I apologise for the delay in responding to your review. Somehow my e-mail server lost a couple of my notifications. Real life (jury duty) has left me little time too check back here, but I'm glad I took the time this evening.
I read the whole story tonight. I found it to be very insiteful in many area, for instance Hermione's worries about how she would be percieved and Flitwick's observation on men's value on physical beauty. I believe to many people value physical beauty way to much. Case in point barbie dolls, if you blew a barbie doll into human size the physical proportions would be impossible to achieve let alone maintain. We have to many of our youngsters suffering from anorexia & bullimia from this manisfastation of outward appearences being so important. I not only enjoyed the story, but loved the moral values shown, whether intentional or not.
Response from StormySkize (Author of Tidings of Comfort and Joy)
First, I want to apologise for not responding sooner to this review. Somehow, I missed the notification that I had reviews waiting. I am usually much quicker to respond. Second, I want to say that I'm glad you enjoyed the story. I did, indeed, want to make the point that people sometimes tend to judge other people based on form rather than substance. Although I had Flitwick saying this about men, I think all of us are sometimes guilty of making those judgements. Finally, I want to thank you for reading my story (especially all in one sitting!) and for taking the time to leave such thoughtful comments. And thank you for all the stars!
AWW! I just loved it! Read it all in one sitting!
Response from StormySkize (Author of Tidings of Comfort and Joy)
Thank you so much. I loved writing this story; I'm glad you loved reading it.
Just read your story over the last couple of days (got here via a list of recs on harmony_bites ' LJ). I absolutely loved your Hermione and your Severus, and the way they came to know each other, and then love each other, over time.
The curse you gave Hermione was an original one, and even though her character is not known for being overly concerned wtih appearance, it makes total sense that such devastating damage to her looks would bring with it a lot of emotional damage as well. I especially appreciated Poppy's empathy with her during the healing process.
Thanks for a wonderful fic - even though it was written for the Yuletide season, it's a wonderful reads any time of year. Well done!
