I might have reviewed this already, but I'll do it again, I really cannot tell you enough how endearing this story is to me. The love and tenderness is just breathtaking and I'm literally left speechless each time I reread this and the previous chapter...actually...this entire story.

Um, they made it out alive. That's something, right? Well, except for Severus but I suspect he'll be returning soon. I didn't expect to see Hermione's parents. That was a surprise. And when Hermione killed Dumbledore, it hadn't even occurred to me that was a game changer in terms of the Elder wand. Seems obvious now, but I hadn't even considered it.

If this ended up starless, it wasn't any less of a chapter than the others, I am just fighting with this blasted phone. So, here you go: *****

Again, I'm both thrilled and nervous that another person knows where the Snapes loyalties lie. The very end of this chapter is killer. I think once they get past this, they will rethink fighting with one another. Every moment spent together could be their last.

Grrrr ... I hate reviewing on my phone! Anyway, I liked the scene with Luna and Ginny. It makes me nervous every time someone seems to see right through Severus. But Luna is missing, so no matter there. And Ron knows. Not everything, but enough. That must be such a boost to Hermione's spirit. He would never intentionally betray them, but I hope that he doesn't get in a position to spill their secret. Although the Carrows might beat them to it. What is going to happen?! I thought it unusual for Severus to be seen if he didn't want to be, but he is exhausted and anxious to return Ron and the sword. *is nervous*

Wow, I think this might be one of my favorite chapters so far. Everything feels so absolutely hopeless. If the Order only knew how heartbreaking, terrifying, and dreadful this is for Severus and Hermione, how much remorse they feel for those things they've done out of obligation rather than choice, they would accept them back into the fold. But there is no way for them to know, or for them to trust the legitimacy of those emotions if they did. So it remains them against the world. And then they decide to live by the motto: The world is shit and all we have left is sex, so lets make it spectacular. And they do. *fans self*But that is only a short-lived respite, because they are due to become lord and lady of Hogwarts. Of all of the horrible things that have happened so far -and there have been many- making them return to Hogwarts is the most unimaginable. Especially for Hermione, I think. At least Severus wasn't well liked when he was a teacher there, and he can exaggerate that and hide behind it. But these students were Hermione's friends and classmates. Who liked her or respected her, or at the very least trusted her to not be a Death Eather supporter. How can she possibly face them, students or professors? I can't even imagine.Dumbledore is his usual self, ignoring the problem and taking no responsibility. But, I expect nothing less from him or you. :)The scene in the Great Hall was painful. I actually was kind of glad that Vector voiced her opinions in such an open manner. It made me cringe, but it slaughtered the elephant in the room and that was preferable to uncomfortable small talk, in my opinion.I had one tiny glimmer of hope when Severus informed the professors that they were to have private tutor time with Hermione. There is no way they could have one-on-one time alone with her, and not start to develop a relationship again. It would be hard for them to trust her, but I thought that curiosity would get the best of them and she would start to answer some questions the best she could, and they would come to realize that she is not, in fact, evil. And then what a set back when she was attacked. It is just brutal, and unwarranted from our standpoint. But, it brought Poppy into their circle of trust, and that made my heart so happy. What a relief that must have been for them, just to have one person on their side. I just wanted to scoop her up and hug her.Okay, I should stop talking. Did I mentiion that this was a favorite chapter, lol?

Thank you so much! At the time I was writing this, I felt such helplessness for them, especially having to stand there and watch a colleague and a beloved teacher die and know they would die horribly themselves if they acknowledged her. I had hoped the brief, frantic sex they experienced afterward would be seen as a companion piece to the night Severus sought out a prostitute the night he returned from Voldemort unscathed, and that it would make sense as to why it seemed line the only thing they could do to celebrate life after so much hideous death. It's a bit tough going from now on, and because you've been such an awesome reviewer, I wanted to warn you. But not too much... ;)
Response from HBAR (Reviewer)
I can't think of a single thing that would scare me off. I'll read anything if its good. Well, there's spiders. Of that I am deathly afraid and couldn't read. But I don't suspect that is where we are going. Your warning only intrigued me to continue reading instead of going to bed. Damn you! :)

Kind of a sad little Christmas, and yet, they are making the most of it. After all, they have each other."Perhaps it was enough just to want those things."I think I will have to agree with that.I was cringing on Hermione's behalf the entire time in Voldemorts company. It's bad for Severus too, but at least he knows what to expect and has a history in dealing with these maniacs. That was horrible. But in the end, these two know how to calm one another and keep themselves sane and that will be so important in the coming days. Now about telling Lupin ... I will be interested in his reaction.
Response from TeddyRadiator (Author of Lay Me Low)
I wanted to convey that 'hard candy Christmas' feeling. They really are alone, and yet, that is enough for them both. I had hoped I could give the feeling of that sad little Christmas, with it's painful hope and air of resignation.

I love the idea that Regulus was the polar opposite of Sirius, so naturally, he and Severus were friends. I always like the idea that he had a friend during school, even though it was Reg that introduced him to Voldemort. It never occurred to me that Severus could have made a potion that was the protection for the horcrux. How horrible he must feel with that on this list of wrong doings. Even though he technically kill anyone with it. He has to feel better getting it off his chest though.
Response from TeddyRadiator (Author of Lay Me Low)
Thank you so much! I have a real love for Regulus Black. He's just a special, tragic character to me. I'm not really into slash at all (especially Severus slash), but he's one of only two men I've ever written as slashing with Severus (the other's Argus Filch). Anyone else just feels so wrong for me ;)When my Muse gave me this chapter, and I started writing about the potion, I was filled with such sadness. Severus knew he hadn't forced anyone to drink it, but it would have to weigh heavily on his soul that he was indirectly responsible for the deaths of two people who meant a lot to him.

I started to read this fic ages ago then stopped when there weren't any updates as I hate that! So I've just spent the last 3 days re reading the entire fic, oh how I love it! I love the way you've kept so much of the original but worked it how I've always wanted it to be! I'm so glad you've started on it again, please, please keep it up, you are such a fantastic writer! There are so many brilliant things I want to comment on but I'd be here all night, so I'll just say Thankyou and keep up the amazing work! 😘

I love the concept of Severus collecting all of the Hermione's, and of them confronting Dumbledore. And the idea of Between. Because really, that whole soul-splitting horcrux-making thing was not well explained. I do hope he can get her back in one piece, and that he doesn't lose himself in the process.
Response from TeddyRadiator (Author of Lay Me Low)
Thank you! I am glad it made sense, because Between plays an important part in the story later.

Ooooh, I loved this chapter! The aftermath is brutal on all sides. Hermione is not scared, or upset, or anything, just numb, and I think that felt like the most realistic emotion given this unprecedented circumstance. Severus, I think, had it planned out in his mind how things would go, and when his wife upended that plan, it sent things into a tailspin. And Hermione doing the deed made Voldemort happy (thank goodness) but I had hoped it would prove her worth to the other Death Eaters. It doesn't appear to be that way. And Severus' departure without answering Hermione's question ... My heart breaks for them, and I hope after everything that has happened, they have enough strength left to get through this.

Thank you - this chapter was very hard to write - not the hardest, for those will come later. But leaving her there with his silence was perhaps one of the most difficult things I've ever done. I am glad that it was worth the pain.

Truly beautiful chapter. Poignant and powerful in places, and even funny in places. Reg is fantasic, and Luna is just well.....she's Luna. The beaded bag bit was brilliantly done. Several chapters ago, when Draco said that Hermione kissed Harry after the Astronomy Tower, I remember thinking 'wha?'. I'm really glad you tied that all together.

Oh, they were so close to having the talk with Harry. Who knows how well it would have gone over, but at least he would have heard what they had to say. And the end ... I was wondering what you were going to do to turn everything on its ear, and here we go. I suspect a certain wizard is not going to be very happy.

“I can’t let you lose hope. Or I will, too.” Severus closed his eyes and allowed her hands to ease him, but they could not pacify his warring heart. He wanted to hope, but he was too realistic to believe it would do much good.Oh goodness, that doesn't bode well. They are really going to have to rely on one another a lot, because essentially, they are on their own.You really make me hate both Bella and Dumbledore. But, Bella is a villain, and it feels good to hate her. Necessary. Dumbledore is supposed to be a good guy, and the fact that he is not is just wrong. Like he should be the ultimate good guy, but you can't trust him any father than you can throw him. I hope he gets what's coming to him. Well, you know, before his death.
Response from TeddyRadiator (Author of Lay Me Low)
As you can probably tell, I'm not a huge fan of Dumbledore! ;) I feel he was terribly cruel to Severus, and thought of him as a tool he could use, even though I don't think Dumbledore actually ever really trusted him.He forced him to do terrible things and used his guilt over Lily like a whip. He took a confused, hurting, terrified young man, and turned him into a bitter, dried up shell. If Severus is the hallmark of lost potential, I think it is because Dumbledore never allowed him to achieve it. He desperately needed a spy, and poor Severus was too compromised to do anything but Dumbledore's bidding. He had his reasons, but I question his methods.Sorry, I get a little carried away on this subject! ;)

Sorry, lousy reviews come with the territory of reading on my phone. But, I loved your take on the bathroom incident. Sometimes I think Harry messes things up without even trying, like its just a natural talent. I was glad that he apologized for his lack of trust in her where Sirius is concerned. And losing the baby was genius ... I hope.

Awww ... Hermione is mothering Severus and he likes it. Not that he would ever admit it.Hermione has a lot on her plate with listening to her friends carry on about what they perceive as horrible attributes of her husband, and having to hear about the disgusting things that her husband is forced to see or do for Voldemort and then bring him away from the darkness. Not that the means of distracting him is a burden from where I am standing.Professor/student sex and detention scenarios are a guilty pleasure of mine when they are playing. I mean, she really is his student, but it isn't a random teacher taking advantage of a student. It is a man having fun with his wife, so I can allow myself to enjoy it guilt free. And the end ... he is going to have a fit about what transpired in the bathroom. I'm actually a little nervous about his impending freakout.I should stop talking and move on now.

I have come to realise that I cannot write a casual sexual encounter well - I have to have some impetus behind it. This was the perfect storm for me. They could 'pretend', and yet they were actually teacher and student. It's a particularly guilty pleasure of mine as well! ;)

Wow! I've never read ANYTHING like that. I should have kept notes, because I now can't remember a single thing I wanted to say about the beginning and middle of the chapter (it's okay, they were all good). I can't wait to see how they use this!!!

I was so excited to see an update was posted, and then I saw MULTIPLE updates and I flipped out!!! And how amazing they were, you have an amazing talent!!! To be able to make the ups and downs Severus and Hermione have experienced dramatic yet utterly believable... I am in awe, and I'll have to do a full story re-read very soon!!! Wonderful writing

Teddy, Teddy, Teddy... you slay me every chapter of this beautiful story. But, Sweet Merlin, don't let Hermione's fears come to pass. They have had enough of the pain, how much more can Severus take? I beg of thy Muse to have Mercy! Looking forward to the next part, my friend.
