Reviews for Lay Me Low
Severus here reminds me of a scene in Lewis' The Silver Chair, where the bound prince pleads to be released. Although I'm sure Lewis never meant it to be quite as sexually fuelled as this!
Still loving the h/c!

Although I love the later story, it's this part, the yearning, building, shivery part as they both feel their way to each other that I adore the most. I'm really glad I decided to re-read this!

Thank you - when I was uploading this to TPP, I re-read it, of course, to make sure there were no glaring errors (and boy, did I find a fair few!), but the one thing I realise was that I truly learned to write with this fic. These early chapters taught me so much, and I hope I've been able to take those lessons and utlise them in later works. One thing I learned, however, was that I changed POVs entirely too much in the early chapters. I was able to calm that down a little later on.

I love the fact that Severus and Hermione have fallen in love, deeply and abiding, without once having sex. (I agree with Severus -she's been too young until the last few chapters.) I love that nevertheless they do kiss each other, for real love between a man and woman shouldn't ignore the sexual component. And I love the fact that although they declared their commitment a chapter or two ago, they showed it here. Despite Hermione's rage this is a quieter chapter, and a necessary one in my opinion. It's necessary to show the aftermath of war, what the cleanup looks like, what the grief feels like. And it shows how Severus has committed to Hermione. So far I think I like this sorrowful chapter the best.

Thank you very much. This story has no outline or plan; it has been given to me by my Muse literally one chapter at a time, and there have been times, like this chapter, when I knew he was 'driving' my fingers and I was just taking dictation. Those are the times when I know I've been faithful to his vision of the story, and I can rest assured I've done my best by him. There have been a lot of distractions during the past year (MISTI-Con, working on my original novel, illness, etc) and I haven't given this story the devotion it needed, but this summer, when I finish it, I hope it will be with the certain knowledge that I allowed him to guide it from start to finish - without any real interference from me!All this rambling speech just to say thank you for a thoughtful and encouraging review that made me really happy.

Thank you so much! I really hope I can match the newest chapter with what has gone before - it's one of the reasons I've been so reticient to upload a new chapter. I'm afraid I'll disappoint everyone who has followed so faithfully. I really can't work on it till I return from Con, but I hope I can make it as enjoyable.

Gah, I'd forgotten how much I hate your Sirius. Creepy perv!
If I re-read the whole story again will you promise me a new chapter?
Response from TeddyRadiator (Author of Lay Me Low)
Absolutely! (Actually, I'm working on the new chapter and hope to have it out sometime in late May or early June anyway, but yes, yes, I promise a new chapter if you re-read!) LOLThank you for hating my Sirius. I know he was a creep! ;)

This is probably the first non-LJ review I've ever left someone but I had to tell you that your story is like an exquisite chocolate: I want to devour it and take the time to savour it simultaneously.

Oooh, I'm really despising Sirius Black right now. I've never been all that fond of him. He was such an ass when he was at hogwarts. Bleh. Loving this story though!
Response from TeddyRadiator (Author of Lay Me Low)
I know - I just think of him as being a bit spoiled and bratty, but I was sort of tough on him! LOL

I absolutely LOVED Severus' speech to Dumbledore! It's about time he put that man in his place. I do feel a bit bad for Harry. He wants to believe Hermione but there is so much bad blood between Harry and Snape. And Sirius is his only family. Add on top the fact that he is a teenage boy, and you can understand why he is torn. And the last scene ... What the heck? *is nervous*
Response from TeddyRadiator (Author of Lay Me Low)
I know - poor Harry. I understood Severus more when I realised that JKR depicts him through the filter of a teenaged boy who doesn't like him, and who knows hates him in return. I think Sirius is also seen through that same filter, in a totally different way, of course.I know! I really should have left that part out.... hee hee...

I can only stop by for a moment before I rush to work, but I wanted to say that Hermione's persistence was just what Severus needed and his lengthy confession of his life was beautiful, and quite frankly emotionally exhausting to me to read. In a good way of course. Sirius Black is a disgusting pig! Good for Harry for getting help on his best friends behalf, but I have to wonder what he would have done if he'd walked in on the real situation. This isn't going to be pretty, but I'm glad it happened after their talk because I think perhaps it fortified them in this upcoming battle. And now I can't read more ... Wah!

Well, as I've said before, I loves me some Sirius/Snape pissing contest, especially over a girl. What I'm not sure of is whether Hermione will be pissed as hell that Severus is fighting her battles, or if she will find it somewhat endearing that he cares so much. And how much of the conversation she heard. Could go either way for poor Severus.

This was inspired by Bloodcult of Freud's awesome WIP, Seven Preposterous Things (My favourite fanfic in the whole wide world), and something her Severus says about him, Lupin and Sirius snarling over a half-grown witch (Hermione). He thought what they were actually doing was reliving their battle over Lily, but now that he knew Hermione, he knew she was twice the witch and woman Lily had ever been. That stuck with me, and still does. I pray to the fanfic gods everyday that Bloodcult will finish this masterpiece, so I can die a happy woman!

First, let me say that I am sending this from my phone which won't allow me to hit return, so you get one big chunky paragraph. Grrrr! I have to say that I am a little concerned about Hermione being left alone with the patient. Sure he is probably still restrained, but is that enough? You can't fault Pomfrey since the Headmaster is keeping her in the dark. Dumbledore's utter lack of compassion just floors me. And the Sirius dilemma ... To go or not to go. It gives me the creepy feeling like watching a bad 80's after school special, lol. *shudders*
Response from TeddyRadiator (Author of Lay Me Low)
Oh, dear, that's not good! LOL But Severus is well restrained...

I love how one single chapter can house so many emotions- fear, desire, anger, confusion, compassion, self-loathing, trust ( both well and misplaced) ... And so many more. And I guess if anything good came from this encounter, it is that everyone's cards are on the table and they they both know where they stand with one another ... Sort of. That's a good thing , um, right?

Hahaha, well, this story started out as one thing and became vastly different. I am still amazed I'm working on it even now. And though it's nearly finished, I maintain I learned how to write working on it. There are a lot of things that go one here, and I hope they all will eventually make sense. Thank you for sticking wtih the story.

Oh, you had me feeling all melty during their "play acting." I was a little concerned after the previous chapter that Hermione was going to get swept up in the tide that is the Potions Master, but now, I feel a little better. First, she is not as naive about the situation as I had feared she might be. And, if she is genuinely interested, he can hardly seduce her against her will.
Response from TeddyRadiator (Author of Lay Me Low)
I realise that one of the criticisms I have received over this fic is making Hermione too 'mature'. I understand she is a young lady, but she is also a very intelligent young lady whose best friends are two young men. JKR may have not made us privy to some of their conversations, but I recall a few I had with my two best male friends in high school ;)I realise Severus can be a persuasive, even suave fellow when necessary, but he's also carrying around a lot of arrested development. I'd say in some ways they're pretty evenly matched, just don't tell him I said that ;)Thank you for your comments regarding the 'play acting'. Sempraseverus drew a stunning work based on this moment in the story, and I have the original on my wall in front of my writing desk, and I wouldn't take a million bucks for it! It's so full of erotically charged tension I find myself just gazing at it from time to time!
Response from HBAR (Reviewer)
Well, I think it is only fair to attach a maturity level to a physical age up until about the 10-12 age range. After that, everyone takes off at different rates. Some mature well before their time, and some never find themselves in a situation that allows them to mature quite like they should. JKR didn't give us enough to go on to be able to criticize anyone's take on these two.

What a chapter! I could comment about Dumbledore's irresponsible response to the news about Sirius, or my hope that your Hermione can continue to hold her own, but the thing that struck me in this chapter is the variance of Severus. He is concerned authority figure. He is lusty man. He is jealous, jaded school mate. He is enraged employee. He certainly is possessive and planning, which I happen to like sometimes, but I hope he doesn't get too crazy. He could get the girl without it, but risks effing it up if he gets out of control. Of course he probably has no idea he could have a chance with her by being himself. That would make it too easy.
Response from TeddyRadiator (Author of Lay Me Low)
I think one of the things that I learned in writing this story is that Severus is so complicated, but in another way, he's very simple. It is this dichotomy that makes him so irresistible and fun to write. He is constantly at war with himself.

My heart just breaks for Severus every time I read about how abused he is at the hands of either master. I am glad to see a Hermione who doesn't let his surly behavior put her off when she knows he needs to be cared for. And Sirius ... He is a character to whom I typically feel lukewarm. I can take him or leave him with no real care one way or the other, but you've really hit a sore spot here, and in this story, I very much despise him.

Aha! My job is done! LOL I feel a bit bad, because I'm not really into Sirius bashing, but he has always struck me as the type who would think every witch on the planet would be ready to drop trou at the slightest suggestion. I think all those years in Azkaban would have left him a bit mad, no matter what he said. Thank you for your wonderful comments!

I really, really, really meant to wait until this was finished, but alas, I have no self control. I love a good fight between Sirius and Severus and hope this isn't the last we see of it. Poor Hermione, on several accounts. :(
