Reviews for Fare Thee Well My Faerie Fey
Love your Carrows and all the variations on poor Justin's name. :)
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of Fare Thee Well My Faerie Fey)
But wait, there's more!
I don't like to start reading works in progress, as so often they end up unfinished, and I am disappointed, but you have me hooked, so here I am, cheering you on! I like how you are expanding on cannon characters without changing them into someone else, and I really like that you aren't reverting to some sort of 20/21st century/Jane Austin hybrid, but are rooting your story firmly in the era that it is set in. I look forward to more.
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of Fare Thee Well My Faerie Fey)
Thanks for cheering me on. I'm delighted you're enjoying this. I can assure you it will be finished... eventually! I don't start posting unless I'm pretty sure I can finish because, like you, I always feel cheated if a story is incomplete.More is waiting in the admin queue.
Interesting - the dynamic between Draco and Luna. More interesting still, the way Snape interprets Luna's scent.
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of Fare Thee Well My Faerie Fey)
Interesting indeed. Let's see where it leads us.
I just love how Snape constantly bungles Justin's last name!
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of Fare Thee Well My Faerie Fey)
One of these days he might get it right... but don't hold your breath.
I love the morning after, where Snape realizes that he knows nothing more about the sword robbery and has agreed to teach Hermione to brew Wolfsbane. Lupin has him all figured out.I think my favorite scene is in the Headmasters office with Snape and Luna stargazing and conversing on the floor. He is completely out of control of any situation where he is alone with her.And the poor folks of Scotland ... drinking sounds complicated there. Where I live it is very simplistic. No matter on the drink refusal. It is best not to get President Clinton drunk anyway :)
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of Fare Thee Well My Faerie Fey)
The alcohol licencing laws in Scotland are complex, with pubs, licenced restaurants and clubs all having different licences and permitted times of opening. It used to be much more strict, which is why the bars around the dock area had different licences for the sailors arriving onshore at odd times of the day. And this pub was on my way home, which is why it was often my last port of call. Because I used to walk home past the docks, the locals got to recognise me. It put a very swift end to one budding relationship when the guy, being chivalrous and walking me home through the rough neighbourhood, discovered I was known by several of the working ladies and male escorts who worked the area.
I absolutely love Snakebites. I love this story so much.
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of Fare Thee Well My Faerie Fey)
I couldn't resist putting in the snakebite. It used to be one of my favourites too.
Hey, I know a Thorfin Skullsplitter! Probably not the same guy, though, huh? By the way, I like the mixture of canon and original thoughts in this little story. ^_^
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of Fare Thee Well My Faerie Fey)
A distant relative? Perhaps. Nice to see you're still reading this, and I hope you enjoy the rest as it carries on.
Response from MsTree (Reviewer)
Actually, that's his SCA name. I don't know his real name because he doesn't live in my shire. I just know him because I run the list sometimes at tournaments and he signs up with that name. Looking forward to the rest of the story even if I don't comment on each chapter. It's NaNoWriMo time and I'm in the middle of writing my 50K words in 30 days. ^_^
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of Fare Thee Well My Faerie Fey)
Showing my ignorance here... What's SCA?All the best with the writing. Good to hear from you when you get the chance to drop in for a review.
Response from MsTree (Reviewer)
Society for Creative Anachronism. An international educational organization devoted to recreating the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. Email me off list if you want to discuss it further. ^_^Doing good so far on the writing. My story this year is a sequel to "Damsels and Dragons".
Mental note. Avoid cubicle number 4. Luna really has Snape and Phin wrapped around her little finger. Draco next... ;)
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of Fare Thee Well My Faerie Fey)
You may want to avoid the establishment completely.
Remus sure has his fingers in a lot of pots.
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of Fare Thee Well My Faerie Fey)
He certainly does!
Clootie dumpling and coostard...as I liked to call it to take the P out of my Mancunian offspring. Sev might have preferred Spotted Dick or even better the magical Manchester Tart. Still totally Laughed my bahookie off at the lads' banter. It is a pity that Lupin's not at Hogwarts but I take it that in your AU it wasn't Sev that cliped on him and got him ejected. Incredibly well written and entertaining, Quaffie. Best wishes, Love Ali xxx. Ps Never been to Aberdeen but that sounds like a doozie of a pub. Bit like the Station Bar in Stevenston that barred women as late as 1979 and had sawdust on the floor. My Mancunian boyfriend now husband was allowed in but not me!
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of Fare Thee Well My Faerie Fey)
Manchester Tart - sounds like one of the lasses from the pub!
Response from aliciana (Reviewer)
A gorgeous confection.......a pastry case filled with strawberry jam.......thick coostard.......shredded coconut and topped with half a glace cherry......quite orgasmic....so yes I suppose there is a connection. Ali xxxxx.
Ah... so now Hermione knows another piece of the puzzle? Or does she? I am intrigued! Poor Remus. He's completely befuddled.
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of Fare Thee Well My Faerie Fey)
Remus doesn't know what he's done wrong.
Well, it's good that Severus didn't have a fit about Malfoy waiting for him. Well, mostly, anyway.I hadn't thought that Remus' request might be for Hermione to make his Wolfsbane. How on earth will she slip away from the boys in order to learn how to make it?I'm really liking this thing developing between Draco and Luna.Incidentally, peelie-wally is my new favorite word *runs off to figure out how to work it into my daily conversations*
Response from HBAR (Reviewer)
Wait, let me get this straight. Sunny wants to win the competition and have Severus all for herself? Selfish little thing, isn't she :)
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of Fare Thee Well My Faerie Fey)
Sunny's willing to share. She offered me her Draco and Blaise for my Severus and Remus, but I'm not sure I'm ready to give them up yet. The thought of losing my boys made me feel quite peely-wally.
My, my, my Draco! And what a mess they all made! Concussions and cuts and bleeding and broken glass! Hopefully it gets better soon!
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of Fare Thee Well My Faerie Fey)
Draco is in more trouble than he realises, I think.
Love Draco telling Snape off. And tell HBAR I saw what she wrote in her last review. :P
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of Fare Thee Well My Faerie Fey)
Erm... I'm stepping out of the way. You two competitors can scrap it out, in writing, at LDWS.I'll just be over here, hiding under my rock... And I get to take Severus with me, seeing as you're not allowed him for LDWS! Though I'm not sure if we'd both fit under this rock...
Response from sunny33 (Reviewer)
We are allowed Sev and Herms, just not together!
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of Fare Thee Well My Faerie Fey)
So I don't get to keep him?
Response from sunny33 (Reviewer)
We...ell, maybe if you're prepared to do a time-share arrangement, we could work something out. ;)
I am really enjoying this story so far, and look forward to updates. I especially like the extra little touches that you put in, such as your disclaimers with their translations!thank you!
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of Fare Thee Well My Faerie Fey)
I'm glad you've stuck with this story, and you're enjoying it. There's plenty more to come, with the next 2 chapters waiting in the admin queue.
These Slytherins are being overrun.
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of Fare Thee Well My Faerie Fey)
They certainly are, but they'll make a sneaky come back, no doubt. The poor wee snakes!
Such a fantastic chapter. I find myself really liking the idea of Remus and Hermione together. And of course I love Severus and Remus, especially the idea that they have been friends for so long, and flatmates, one a superslob and the other a neatnik. Luna seems so random, but I suspect she makes perfect sense, just not to us :) I want more now!
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of Fare Thee Well My Faerie Fey)
Luna makes perfect sense... I think....Congrats on getting through another week on LDWS.
Response from HBAR (Reviewer)
Thanks! If you could incapacitate your buddy, I would have an even better chance. Um, Sunny is not reading this, right?
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of Fare Thee Well My Faerie Fey)
Sorry! No can do. I need her to beta the next couple of chapters.
Response from HBAR (Reviewer)
Ok, just utilizing all of her brain power for your story is an acceptable plan :) Glad you thought of it!
Mmm... I love the dynamics and rhthym of your writing so much; this story in particular with its multiple scenarios intertwined - yum! Draco's shoes - HA! It's wonderful details like this that just keep drawing one into the moment by moment experience of the characters... Sev & his dilemma, Neville Ginny & Luna, and Remus & Hermione... so complicated and bittersweet... As always, wonderful chapter!
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of Fare Thee Well My Faerie Fey)
Dear me! Draco's shoes have taken on a life of their own.
Response from nagandsev (Reviewer)
LOL - it's a testament to your wonderrful writing that these type of details pop out... there are so many; I love your every nuance and desciption of touch & smell (especially between Hermione & Lupin), every description of Sev's point of view, every action of the anti-trio... so when a sweet quirky second of observation of a snooty Malfoy is depicted, it just accentuates ALL of the other contrasting sensual descriptions & depictions!
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of Fare Thee Well My Faerie Fey)
Thank you very much. You're incredibly generous. I'll have to go and lie down now, my head's swelling so fast.
I know Hermione on one hand, loves Remus. But he, on the other hand - I don't know if I would honestly call it romantic love. I see it more as Remus is like a moth drawn to a flame that gets its batteries recharged by it and then leaves again. He's not in deep abiding love, he's in "you make me remember to live" kind of love with her. Addictive in it's own way, but totally different than mature love. No wonder she was so important to him when Severus asked him before.
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of Fare Thee Well My Faerie Fey)
No, it's not romantic love, is it?Thanks for taking the time to review.
Ooooh you naughty girl. Leading me on like that. So.....are Remus and Hermione sleeping together in the biblical sense or in the Morecambe and Wise sense? And how does he know what's going to transpire? Best wishes, Love Ali xxxx. PS We're having an October heatwave over here. I went to my favouritest (is that a word?) store in the world...Housing Units of Hollinwood... Google it....yesterday in summer garb and they had their Christmas display with a Harry Potter theme going on....not Hallowe'en but Crimbo! There was a great life-size cut out of Sev there too.......magic!
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of Fare Thee Well My Faerie Fey)
Morecambe and Wise:"What do you think of the show so far?""Rubbish."Aaah! You don't get witty repartee like that nowadays.
He knows? This is getting very sad and convoluted, just like lives during a war.
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of Fare Thee Well My Faerie Fey)
As you say, life during wartime never runs smoothly.
How could you do that? How could you... ruin Draco's shoes!!! :P
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of Fare Thee Well My Faerie Fey)
...and in these dire times, daddy may not be able to replace them...
Um, I don't know if anyone told you this, but you aren't allowed to just mention something like Remus and Hermione and then drop it and move on. But I suppose there's no going back now. It seems the only way to right this wrong it to get the next chapter up ASAP. Just sayin ...I don't typically like Draco much, but you've made me feel sorry for him here, so good for you. Crabbe and Goyle are worthless and the sooner he figures that out, the better.I really liked the Luna/Headmaster Black story. It was original and very interesting. Still, the best part has to be Snape's indignation at Black's ability to let people into the office despite Snape's wards. Poor guy can never catch a break.
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of Fare Thee Well My Faerie Fey)
Uncle Phin's a sneaky beggar. The next chapter full of more characterful characters is waiting in admin.
I do love Luna.
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of Fare Thee Well My Faerie Fey)
I'm hoping you'll love her even more as the story goes on.
Draco will learn some tact if it kills him...and at the rate he's going, it just might. I really enjoyed having Phineas and Luna be related, and the scene where Crabbe and Goyle rough up Draco was a good way of showing how Draco's fall from grace seen briefly in the last book started out. I would love to know what Luna said to "Uncle Phin" about Draco!
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of Fare Thee Well My Faerie Fey)
Poor Draco. I think he's just a little bemused at the moment.
