> eskurianEuskaria much? Is this related?
Response from Hechicera (Author of Wake)
Oddly enough, no. I'd have to go back and comb through my notes--which are on a different laptop--to remember which language it came from. For the moment, Hermione's only researching the origins of Indo-European, and as an isolate language--in fact, the only known relic of pre-IE languages in Western Europe--Euskara is a thing apart. But holy cow, someone needs to write a fanfic with some Basque language and characters. How cool would that be?
Response from cmwinters (Reviewer)
Oh don't go through all that, it's not that important! o_O "No" suffices. :pI love when I try to explain the Albanian or Armenian languages to someone, and they say "is it related to $whatever?" (typically something Slavic because that is the predominant regional language family). Watching people's brains melt at "no closer than Portuguese is to Swedish or Gaelic!" is pretty funny, all things considered.:p
> The three PIE roots cited by Hermione are as accurately reproduced as I can make them without access to phonetic symbols.I. LOVE. YOU. for this. So hard. I LOVE the idea behind linguistics research like this.
Response from Hechicera (Author of Wake)
Woot! Thank you! I am such a language nerd :-)
Aha! I just found you here... Yay! (On an archive with update notices!) (I'm AuntLynnie over at Ashwinder. I'll be following you here now. *grin*)
Response from Hechicera (Author of Wake)
Yay! So glad to have you!
Glad you are back. I like your Hermione and Severus very much. Looking forward to following those two, there is a lot going on with Severus' task and Hermiones more or less illeagal potions and maybe hexes too
Response from Hechicera (Author of Wake)
Yes, I do like a Hermione that's not as rule-bound as she used to be.
Oh my! Why do I have the feeling that Hermione's stay in St. Mungo's for doing something that Harry considered stupid has something to do with the scar on her face? And why doesn't Snape remember that he gave it to her?Such interesting questions. I hope I don't have to wait too long for the answers.
Response from Hechicera (Author of Wake)
Chapter 13 should be up soon--thanks!
Wow! A new, wonderful chapter, and with such a development! Are you going to twist canon? Hermione missed the major part of the final battle spending time with Snape and getting injured, but the question is how? And now I'll be wondering (for weeks? for months? oh well, it's no use to rush inspiration). It could not be Snape's fault, or H. would not have been so affable seeing him after all those years.
Response from Hechicera (Author of Wake)
Well, it's only a tiny canon tweak, making her absent at part 2 of the Battle of Hogwarts. After that, of course, all bets are off, because to hell with that Epilogue.
oh, GOODIE! A well-written story with wit, bite, and lots of atmospheric & psychological detail. i'm in!
Response from Hechicera (Author of Wake)
Thank you so much!
Sometimes I wonder if JKR ever reads her own books. Why would ANYONE put Hermione with Ron? It's like it was just convenient. Perhaps that is how it is with kid books. I'd have preferred it if she'd just remained unmarried and being a researcher than the mother of weasleys!
Response from Hechicera (Author of Wake)
I know, right? What was she thinking?
LOL. Poor Snape lusting after his former student without realizing. Of course it HAD to be Hermione. I love it.
Response from Hechicera (Author of Wake)
Ten years is a long time :-)
Response from mimmom (Reviewer)
It is time for him to have some fun.
I was thinking of my sister during the whole medical discussion. Obviously, my sister is a dentist. Whenever any of us are ill or hospitalized, she interrogates the medical staff...this brought back memories!Trent Reznor?? But of course...yum-my
Response from Hechicera (Author of Wake)
Yes, yum. I don't know if you've read Guernica's The Knight Errant Chronicles (and if you haven't, by all means go and do so now) but she's got a whole think of people mistaking Snape for TR.
LOL, he's got a good plan, I think.
Response from Hechicera (Author of Wake)
Well, expect it to gang agley fairly soon.
wonderful update! thanks
I have to admit I *loved* the healer telling Dr. Granger what a mandible is. I was like "WTF? He's a DENTIST!?:;)Pineapple, eh?I'm surprised he didn't specify "sideways". ;)
Response from Hechicera (Author of Wake)
I had to rewrite that whole section of dialogue after being informed by my Britpicker that dentists in the UK are not addressed as "Dr." It messed up the whole exchange and I had to start from scratch.
Response from cmwinters (Reviewer)
Well, I'm American, and dentists are "doctors of dentistry" here. :p
I love this line: Christ on a cracker, he wasn't some randy teenager following his cock around. Heat-seaking misile chrisis! Too funny!
So sad to read about Hermione's hospital stay and her parents' reaction. I have the same reaction to horrible nightmares. I have to get up and walk around, drink some cold water, ect, or I'll just pick up where I left off when I close my eyes again.
great update! thanks!
You have got me really wondering what Hermione is really up to. And I'm wondering if Severus is really in it for the money.
Well done, Hechicera!

Partners at last! That plant is really good. She used it to seduce him into a business partnership and she doesn't even have it yet!
~Goes off to pack for Brazil.~
“You were never actually a child at all, were you?”
I've often wondered about that myself. He certainly wouldn't have had the type of childhood Hermione did. She's just going to have to educate him about traditional Muggle childhood icons!
“Still a Ministry-regulated substance,” he said mildly.
“Not in Spain.”
Spain just keeps getting better and better!
Philtrist, eh? I like it! I can't wait to meet Wilbur. Then again, that lunch is sounding fantastic. Do you think they'd mind if I tagged along?
Looks like Snape's investigation is going along swimmingly. I can't help but wonder if Hermione doesn't already know exactly why he's there. She's not one to look a gift horse in the mouth, though. Who better to help with an experimental potion than a disgruntled potions master?
Hermione's done more than a bit of growing up! Poor Snape has every right to be envious of her life. It really should have been his! Perhaps, if he plays his cards right...
OMG! Did she really just side-along apparate him out of a stinky public toilet?!?! I can't wait to see Snape's reaction to that!
Damned nice of them to finally let Snape out even with strings attached. Spain is certainly treating him much better than Azkaban. I do hope his heart can stand the shock of finding out who owns that delectable little arse he's been drooling over!
LOL. Everyone has a price! :)
