Reviews for Razor's Edge
Aw! That was a twist I didn't like reading at all! I guess there's no hope for romance after she messed up so badly.
Response from Keppiehed (Author of Razor's Edge)
Oh no! I'm so sorry that you didn't like the ending. It was my first story, so in the interveing time I've been a writer, I have lerned to better craft a tale. Thanks so much for reading it, though. I do appreciate it!
Heh. Make Hermione carry the fault of Dumbledore's death, then. That's interesting!
Response from Keppiehed (Author of Razor's Edge)
Thanks! I hope the ending wasn't too disappointing. Thanks for reading and for reviewing; I do appreciate it!
No! Sir Figgie! How could Hermione be so careless? I had a smelly teenage boy sock all ready for the exchange, but I am too late!Pretty good for an early work. Reading this just highlights how far your work has come since. Well done, and keep writing.
Response from Keppiehed (Author of Razor's Edge)
Thank you for your kind words! You know that looking at earlier work always makes me cringe. You are nice to be so generous about it. Thanks for reading it all the way through! (and you're right; I've come a long way from chaste romance to squid sex! *whew* Fandom has a steep and slippery slope!)
How sad this is. Severus will now have to die and when he does, Hermione will realize that her one moment of forgetfulness had made it so. What a terrible burden to have to carry. Not every story can have a happy ending, but even in this sadness you have given us a great plot and the inspired idea of an anti-dementor. I want to compliment you on your first posted story. You did a great job. I had no idea that it would end this way, but the idea is a completely unexpected twist to the tale. At least they had that one brief moment of tenderness between them and that is so much more than they had in Deathly Hallows.Well done!Beth
Response from Keppiehed (Author of Razor's Edge)
Aw, thank you so much. I was worried that you wouldn't like how it ended so abruptly! I am really glad that you stuck with it, and that you liked some of the more original aspects of it, even if it could have been written more gracefully. Thanks so much for being such an enthusiastic reviewer. It really was a great pleasure to get your feedback, and I hope you seek out my other stuff; it is a little more polished, I can assure you!
I had to laugh at Hermione's recruiting speech to Sir Figgy. I think she has a new suitor. When Snape told her that he could not give her what she sought, I got the eeriest feeling. Like he knows something bad is going to happen... to him. Oh nooooooooo. The anti-dementor potion is a brilliant idea, and I hope it works like they have planned.I'm so afraid for Snape.Beth
Response from Keppiehed (Author of Razor's Edge)
Oh no. I think you might have the right idea. *is very nervous about your reaction for the next chapter* I hope you don't hate it!!
They kissed, Squee!!! But poor Sir Figgie, I'll miss him.
Response from Keppiehed (Author of Razor's Edge)
Aw, Sir Figgie had to go. But yeah, at least they got a kiss in! LOL! That was before my days of knowing how to taper a story gracefully, so thank you very much for sticking with me, and for your kind review. I appreciate it very much, even with the abrupt ending!
Good lord but Draco was at his worst here. I don't know what brought Snape to the Slytherin dormitory, but thank the gods he was there. When he told Draco, Crabbe, and Goyle that they would have to spend weeks setting the Potions storeroom to rights, I suspected he did know what Draco was about to do to Hermione. It's a good thing that Pansy was willing to "escort" Hermione through the Common Room so that her Head of House would be able to see that she got out . And now they have three weeks (not a long time really) for Hermione to learn all about "stealth tactics, or ... wayfinding technologies" and then for her to teach an elf. I hope she can find one willing to work with her. 8^)Beth
Response from Keppiehed (Author of Razor's Edge)
It pained me to portray our favorite Slytherin bad-boy in such a nasty light! I think he was probably true to character, but it still was hard to do! *whew* I'm glad that part is over with, and now we are onto the rest of the story!
"She yearned for nothing more than to have him pull her into his strong arms and embrace her."So, having the thestral's heart in her possession did affect how she feels about Snape. Well done. Now, I hope Severus is getting some sort of vibes that his assistant is in danger, otherwise he is going to be without her help. If he does come to realize the danger she is in from Draco, the young Slytherin is going to be in a world of hurt.I'm off to the next chapter!Beth
Response from Keppiehed (Author of Razor's Edge)
Oh, man, I am totally biting my nails to see what you think of the whole thing. I hope you don't hate the ending! *is a nervous wreck*
Yes! The perfect solution to Hermione's fear of having to kill one of these gentle creatures. I wonder if his giving the thestral's heart to her will effect her relationship with the Professor? After all, Hagrid did tell her that it has magical properties:"It’s said to bring the greatest of hope and love to anyone wishin' fer it, mostly witches on their sweethearts, I think." Very interesting... and now about that house elf.Beth
Response from Keppiehed (Author of Razor's Edge)
I remember sweating over that problem, I can tell you! I'm glad that solution came to me, and that it seemed plausible, because neither of us wanted to see Hermione knee-deep in gore. *shudders*Thanks for reading thus far!
Wow! Finally she knows the truth about Professor Snape, and is willing to help. I know it is hard for her to think about having to kill a thestral for its heart, but it must be done. I can't help but wonder how that will all work out. But not only does she have to obtain the heart, she has to get a house elf because they are going to sneak into Azkaban? Yep, that what he said.I'm off to find out what happens next. 8^)Beth
Response from Keppiehed (Author of Razor's Edge)
*laughs* I am delighting in your responses! Thanks so much for being an enthusiastic reviewer! You are making my day!
Gah! So very heart-wrenching, and quite the mood-killer. However, it was well played to fit into the set of events. Poor Sir Figgie.
Response from Keppiehed (Author of Razor's Edge)
I'm sorry you didn't like the end! I know it was a downer, and I am totally cringing at how abruptly I ended it. At the time, it seemed like it was the longest fanfic of all time. Now that I have been writing awhile, I realize that I might have tapered it with some grace. *grimaces* Thanks for being so kind in your reviews and assessment of it, and I hope that you find my other work a little more satisfying! Thanks for being such a good reviewer, and for sticking with it so patiently!
It was a near thing, but Severus will survive. I wonder how he will react when he realizes that Hermione's penance is to be his assistant. I am relieved that Dumbledore poured oil on the troubled waters known as Harry and Ron. I'm just waiting for them to forget what the Headmaster told them and go off half-cocked about something else to do with Snape. Now what will Hermione be doing for the good Professor? Beth
Response from Keppiehed (Author of Razor's Edge)
I am worried that you won't like how the story ends up! I beg you to bear in mind that it was my first effort, and the rest of my stuff is much more polished, I promise. But you will get your answers soon enough. And thanks so much for sticking with it. All will be revealed shortly!
Good God Almighty! The minute Hermione made up her mind to get that last vial, I knew all hell woould break loose. And now her decision to NOT do what Snape had told her to do had led to this horrendous, firey conflagration. She is lucky that he isn't dead... and there's still plenty of time for that to happen.Oh shite! Great chapter!Beth
Response from Keppiehed (Author of Razor's Edge)
LOL! I'm so glad that you are enjoying this story! It's good to read your enthusiasm for it! I warn you that it has a train-wreck at the end, so don't get too excited. This was my very first story, so I wasn't great at the art of storytelling yet. *ducks*
Harry and Ron have no way of knowing that the potion that Snape probably want to brew will allow him to see Lily one last time and right the wrong he had been carrying for years. The thestral heart is an ingenious ingredient idea that makes perfect sense. I wonder how on earth Hermione is going to find one. I can't see her killing a thestral to cut out its heart. Could there be another potion ingredient that is known as "thestral heart?" I hope Ron and Harry can keep their mouths shut, but I have a feeling that at least one of them won't be able to help himself. There is so much opportunity for unintended mischief here.Good job!Beth
Response from Keppiehed (Author of Razor's Edge)
You're so right about unintended mischief; had I had more experience as a storyteller under my belt, I would have taken advantage of that set-up! Now I am smacking myself. Maybe I should go back and add some stuff in. I'm glad that you alike it so far, and I am just cringing about what you are going to think about the rest of the plot!
I read and reviewed this chapter back on 6/9/10 and had every intention to read on and follow... as you could tell, something (RL) snuck up on me and I got distracted. So I'm back and looking forward to finding out everything that's happened. And the story is complete! I'm so sorry I got sidetracked, and this time I really am off to the next chapter. Beth
Response from Keppiehed (Author of Razor's Edge)
Oh, I definitely know how RL is! I hope the rest of the story doesn't disappoint!
Poor Sir Figgie. Still, it was pretty good for your first work. Now, young lady, back to PIE! Mush! :P
Response from Keppiehed (Author of Razor's Edge)
You are far too kind for what I deserve on this. And as for PIE ... Yes ma'am! *mushes*
Talk about a mood killer! How will Hermione live with herself after forgetting to cast the charm to save the elf? If you keep her in character, it will eat away at her and perhaps make her take extra chances she might not have taken because she feels that she deserves to be punished for her neglagence. How very sad indeed. I just hope that Snape finds a way to let her know about Dumbledore and his dreaded task. Perhaps she can make up for her mistake by helping him there. But if you are going to follow canon, I can't imagine how you will accomplish it.Guess I'll just have to wait and see...
Response from Keppiehed (Author of Razor's Edge)
I know, it was an angsty and to the tale, indeed! At the time, I was thinking, OMG, this is the longest fanfic EVER. *laughs* Um, I have learned a thing or two in the intrvening time, and I can now fill in a plot hole and taper an ending better, so I assure you that anything else you read will be much less abrupt and hopefully more satisfying! Thanks so much for sticking with it, and for your patience with me. I appreciate all of you kind remarks!
Darn! Ending needs a bit of work, but otherwise good story! I doubt there will be a relationship now....Nicely done for a first-timer. I kept thinking Hermione might get her time-turner and fix it, oh well. Anti-dementor was a very interesting idea. Looking forward to reading more from you.
Response from Keppiehed (Author of Razor's Edge)
Hehe, thanks for sticking with it. I cringe when I look back on this, as I am sure we all do with our early work. I really appreciate that you were kind about it, and if you could manage to get through this, then my other stuff should prove much more satisfying. Thanks so much for reading and reviewing!
Um, I think you missed uploading the part where Hermione wakes up and this was all a dream, but having witnessed that, she won't forget the charm in real life. Then they live happily ever after. The end.So, I don't actually think there is a trainwreck here at all. Maybe a child's scooter hitting a small tree, LOL. It is clearly an early work, just due to the depths of the characters that you currently write, but I think it ended just fine. Well, except for the fact that if I had it my way, every single story would have a happy ending. Still, it was a fun read, I think you were fretting about it more than anyone else.Don't you now think that you owe the knight elf his own short story since you offed him without his moment to shine. Surely he has something interesting in his past...
Response from Keppiehed (Author of Razor's Edge)
You're too kind. I was like "omg, that's a major plot hole, Hermione would NEVER forget the charm like that. And then it stopped as if I got tired of writing: elf dies, plans fails, the end." At the time, I remember thinking "This is the longest work of fanfiction EVER WRITTEN, and people are going to think that I have been dragging it out unmercifully, I must end it now!" (er ... fast forward a year to the excruciatingly slow nuances of UST in PIE, lol) Anyway, glad that you didn't totally hate it. See, there's hope for us all. If I can churn out this garbage and end up okay, anyone can do it!
Response from HBAR (Reviewer)
If I can churn out this garbage and end up okay, anyone can do it!How subtle, LOL! The end was a little abrupt, but I think that I was prepared for such a dreadful ending, that I was expecting, I don't know what, but something really bad. The story had several concepts which I think are really good. Maybe someday you can revisit them in an even better, more experienced story.
I just don't get how Hermione could forget something so important as the charm. I don't know if it was Fate for her to forget, and for Severus to go with the other pla. I wonder how that's going to affect his relationship with Hermione. Obviously they won't be able to have one now.
Response from Keppiehed (Author of Razor's Edge)
I know; it was a pretty weak plothole. I was trying to bring it back around to canon, where Severus had to kill Dumbledore, which he had been trying to avoid with this plan. I hope it didn't all seem too unbelievable; this was my very first story, and after I've been in fandom a while I realize it wasn't thought out very well. *blushes* But I thank you for reading this far, and I hope it wasn't TOO disappointing!
Figgie's too cute!I love how ambiguous his statement of "Your happiness depends upon it." is!Looking forward to seeing how you finish this off!
Response from Keppiehed (Author of Razor's Edge)
I'm glad to see you're still with me, even with the addition of the house-elf. I was worried he might be annoying! Thanks for sticking with it. Yup, next chapter is it! All shall become clear!
Another awesomely wonderful chapter. I can only hope Severus and Hermione can grow closer despite his reservations and flatout refusal. Perhaps, Hermione, lit the spark of knowledge that there is an attraction between them that is not simply one sided. Great Job!!
Response from Keppiehed (Author of Razor's Edge)
Oooh, thanks. I know, I want those two to get together, as well! Snape needs a nudge in the right direction or something. I'm really glad to hear that you are enjoying the story thus far, and thanks so much for your review!
Gadzounds! Looks like there may be a scrap over the knight elf. He's quite cute, and obviously reasonably sturdy if he survived the wrath of Snape, but the chink in his armour may be his down fall. Sunny and I could look after him to make sure no ill befalls him.
Response from Keppiehed (Author of Razor's Edge)
I can't say anything to give it away, but don't get too attached to the little guy: *cues foreboding music*. I tried to make him sort of annoying so people didn't like him too much. Look away, while you still can!
Response from quaffswinegaily (Reviewer)
Nooo! We want the knight elf! Am willing to pay adoption fees.Just a thought - 'Knight elf' sounds like something you'd take to stop a nightime cough, doesn't it?
Response from Keppiehed (Author of Razor's Edge)
Did J.K. go over elf transfer procedure? Do you hand a sock around? I'm not sure what the etiquette is, but you're welcome to the medicinally named guy! rofl
So she finally realizes what we knew all along. I wonder if Snape can tell... I think probably so, but a woman who worked with my husband had a crush on him once. Everyone could see it except him. His parents attended a party while visiting us and she was there. Even they could tell. They both warned him that she was hot for him and he had better watch himself! I knew the woman, and I trusted my husband (still do). He really had no idea that she had desires for him, but I think it was because he wasn't the least bit interested in her that way. If Snape is interested in Miss Granger, perhaps he recognizes the signs. He's not the type to miss anything going on around him.And what a bombshell at the end? Her happiness depends on it... What about his happiness?
Response from Keppiehed (Author of Razor's Edge)
Ah, Snape. I always imagine him as really astute, but somewhat oblivious to matters of the heart. Although we can't be sure about exactly what he is picking up on and what he can't admit to himself. Don't worry, it all comes cler in the last chapter, next week. And your husband sounds like he is really in love with you; that's why he didn't have eyes for anyone else. The thought probably didn't even cross his mind because he was already so happy with what he had! :) That anecdote made me smile. It's so nice to hear.
Response from ClayPotter (Reviewer)
Even after almost 19 years, we still have a good thing going. Our kids are teens now, and they still tell us to "get a room" when we start to hug and kiss in front of them. It's so funny, but they have grown up with the confidence that their parent's really love each other.
Response from Keppiehed (Author of Razor's Edge)
That's so refreshing to hear! I have been married for 13 years and we have 5 kids. It is great to know that there are still people going strong out there and that it IS possible to succeed and have a strong family and a happy marriage. I am looking to you as an example now!
I want a Figgie of my own. Do you have any spares? :D
Response from Keppiehed (Author of Razor's Edge)
Hehehe, do you like him? I was worried that he was lame. I'm glad he wasn't the next Jarjar Binks of fanfic. :D
