Sometimes writing, nearly always beta reading, I love to unwind after work by reading fanfiction.
Reviews for Antidotes
lovely update. i hope despirately that narcissa isn't responsable for hermione's drain. i really love the way you've written her. thanks muchly
Response from WriterMerrin (Author of Antidotes)
Thanks. I have really enjoyed getting to know the Malfoys in writing this story, and I'm glad that comes across.
Informative chapter, I'm trying to figure out what Hermione's problem is and a thought occurred to me. Hermione has been using Bellatrix's wand, could the wand have had a curse on it? Would that explain Hermione's loss of magical strength?
Response from WriterMerrin (Author of Antidotes)
House points to you, my dear, for critical thinking. Thanks!
Hermione certainly has a lot to occupy her mind. What kind of darkness is draining her magic away? Not being allowed to perform magic is annoying, but the possibility of losing her magical ability completely has to be frightening. Then, there is the new feelings with Severus. He is very protective of her; even if it is to his own detriment. I love that they are still on a first name basis with each other and, that their auras compliment one anothers. There is definitely something yummy about their connection. Ron can go jump in the lake! Great chapter! :D
Response from WriterMerrin (Author of Antidotes)
Thanks! I'm glad all of the emotion is coming across and that you find it yummy!
So they meet again, and it's not the disaster Hermione worried it would be. Nice meeting. Plus she knows about Narcissa's yenta tendency to be a matchmaker. Hermione didn't seem too upset upon hearing the bad news about her future with Ron. Is that good news for Severus, WM?
Response from WriterMerrin (Author of Antidotes)
Yes, Severus was not being very optimistic in chapter four, but he has reason to believe in good news.
That was really good. It pulled me away from stressful thoughts for a while.
Response from WriterMerrin (Author of Antidotes)
Thanks. I love the way good fanfic lets us do that!
Im so very curious about the curse that is sucking Hermione's magic. For a crazy second there I thought it might be Ron. Heh. Did Narcissa state what color Hermione's aura is or are we to assume its similar to Minerva & Ron's due to house affiliation? Thank you for the update
Response from WriterMerrin (Author of Antidotes)
Goodness! That would be a twist...She did state in one place that Hermione's aura is gold. Thanks!
They say opposites attract. I feel that this is one good reason that Hermione and Severus would make a good match. They compliment each other so well.A very interesting chapter. I can't help but think that Severus's need to heal is draining Hermione's magic - not on purpose, mind you. If this is the case, perhaps he will also be the person who comes up with a way to restore her magic and this will bring them even closer together.
Response from WriterMerrin (Author of Antidotes)
I do love stories that show them complementing each other. Thanks.
I hope they will be able to find out what kind of Dark Magic was used to make Hermione so weak. I'm sure it must be something to do with Bellatrix. With Severus back among the alert and healthy, I hope he will be able to brew a potion of cast a spell that will restore Hermione to her former magical self. The things Narcissa told Hermione about her aura when it combine with Severus' and how different hers and Ron's aura were will lead Hermione to follow her heart and grow closer to the Potions Master. Will Narcissa tell Severus what she has determined about their auras? I hope so... and soon.I'm really looking forward to your next update!!!Beth
Response from WriterMerrin (Author of Antidotes)
Great job; you don't miss a thing :) I have a feeling that Severus is the first person Narcissa told about her observations, going on the assumption that he would take some serious convincing as well.
just read your story again from the beginning. It was a lovely read. Waiting for the next update. In the meantime I will go check if you have other stories here or at ashwinders
Response from WriterMerrin (Author of Antidotes)
Thanks! I write mostly short pieces, but this one is almost finished now.
Well, those auras seem to be spot on, don't they? I especially liked what Narcissa said about Hermione and Ron constantly trying to one-up or however she put it. Perhaps part of Hermione's cure will lie with the auras?
Response from WriterMerrin (Author of Antidotes)
Thanks. I hoped that would be the start to helping Hermione come arround to the Slytherin side.
I totally prefer Severus to Ron, so I have to agree with Narcissa.
Response from WriterMerrin (Author of Antidotes)
LOL! Poor Ron gets so little love in these stories. Thanks!
I lost two close friends this summer and so the funeral made me cry. But the pranks by the remaining 6 siblings made me smile. How sweet.
Clever Narcissa to know that this is post-war-Hermione's 'first impression' on the rest of the wizarding world. Madma Malkin, knows, too, and sent her various mourning garments. But I am concerned about Hermoine's health.

'After months of monotonous conversations in a tent,'
You're SO right! HHR must have been rather tired of each others' conversation by then, months of only each other and very few new experiences to tell about.
----
I like the sweet dream interlude, very pleasant and romantic. Awww!
Response from WriterMerrin (Author of Antidotes)
Thanks. I debated a lot about the Weasley funeral, so it's good to know that it was emotive. Your review was so very welcome!
This is interesting: Narcissa socializing with a muggleborn, & Severus entering her dream. (unless it's really only a dream)
Narcissa is very interesting. I think you are doing a good job fleshing her out. It's hard for me to accept her, or any Malfoy, because of what they did in the books, but you are working on my dislike of the entire family.
Response from WriterMerrin (Author of Antidotes)
Wow, thanks!I feel that Lucius was an evil man who did horrible things, but I've always had a soft spot for stories that explored his relationship with Narcissa. I figure that each of us has the capacity for good and evil, and how appropriate that Lucius' wife's name might even reflect a narcissistic idea that what he loves about her is how she reflects himself.Well, that was kind of deep. The shorter answer is that it was written for an exchange, and the request was for a lot of involvement of Lucius in the story. The discoveries I noted earlier came as I thought that maybe the Malfoys had paid their debt by their horrible treatment at Voldemort's hands. Anyway, I'm almost ready to post the next part, so I hope you keep your eyes open for it.
It's great that Narcissa and Lucius have added Hermione to Severus' room wards. They seem to intuitively sense that Severus and Hermione would compliment one another. And Severus showing up and saving her in her dream was precious. I hope the 'girls night' chat gives Hermione a little something to think about. Great chapter! :D
Response from WriterMerrin (Author of Antidotes)
Thanks. I think that what Lucius and Narcissa have been through in the past year would either tear them apart or bring them closer together, and I chose to go with the idea that they would come to depend even closer on each other. People in love do like to matchmake sometimes ;)
the idea of synergy was facinating. i'm not sure i believe in auras, exactly, but there's no getting arround the idea of instant rapport with someone. this is just a delightful and thot provoking story. thanks so much
Response from WriterMerrin (Author of Antidotes)
Thank you! I suspend most of my disbelief when I start playing in Potterworld. I have friends who actually read auras, but I like it as a plot device.
Wow. And you made Narcissa smart and perceptive, I love that.
Response from WriterMerrin (Author of Antidotes)
Thanks. The last book really changed my image of who Narcissa is. She doesn't miss a thing, and I wanted to illustrate that.
What a wonderful dream. I would sure like to remember it if I closed my eyes and he was there in such a pleasant manner.Lovely. And very interesting. I wonder what Narcissa will find while looking at Hermione's aura with regard to Ron, and with regard to Severus. Perhaps she will find a better fit with Severus?
Response from WriterMerrin (Author of Antidotes)
Narcissa must have had a reason for bringing it up, right ;) Thanks!
The dream Hermione is sharing with Severus is so sweet. I think it may hint of things to come. Something tells me that Narcissa will discover that Hermione's and Ron's auras are not well matched, but that Hermione's and Severus' are perfectly matched. Now that would make me very happy.Thank you for this happy chapter. I loved seeing Narcissa and Hermione getting to know each other better.Beth
Response from WriterMerrin (Author of Antidotes)
Thank you. It seems that we like to see the same kinds of things in our fiction ;)
The explanation of the auras was fabulous. Having Hermione admit she can't learn everything in a book was great. Made me laugh out loud.Hmm. If Hermione and Severus can communicate in dreams, what does that mean for Ron? A swift kick in the arse? I don't intend to sound mean, but RW and HG aren't meant for each other. We all know that.
Response from WriterMerrin (Author of Antidotes)
Thanks. I see this time in Hermione's life as a crucible. When this was originally written, very few people had tackled Hermione in the aftermath of the war, and I really wanted to challenge Hermione. And you aren't too mean to Ron. You'll probably want to kick him again before the story's through. Bwa ha ha ha ha!
:( But I want her to remember! I love the aura-lore. It works well with what we know of magic.
Response from WriterMerrin (Author of Antidotes)
I want her to remember, too. Let's see what two formidable brains such as Hermione and Severus have can do with that. Thanks for the reivew!
Let's see, I'm guessing Hermione's and Ron's auras just don't mesh right. I liked their girl's night.
Response from WriterMerrin (Author of Antidotes)
Thanks for the insightful guess ;) Glad you liked it.
I am enjoying the female bonding, I suspect in this case these two women will learn, grow and heal a bit because of each other.
Response from WriterMerrin (Author of Antidotes)
Thanks for the insightful review. The next chapter is up :)
What an intriguing chapter! With all of Narcissa's talk of auras, and her encouragements to Hermione to speak to Severus as well as to move down closer to the dungeons... one wonders if she hasn't already noticed something about the interaction of Severus' and Hermione's auras as they've been near one another? It will also be interesting to find out just how and why Severus has been able to enter Hermione's dreams. Another example of affinity, perhaps? Or something to do with his ability as a Legilimens? I can't wait to find out!
Response from WriterMerrin (Author of Antidotes)
Narcissa doesn't miss a thing, and neither do you. Thanks for the very thoughtful review.
I am really enjoying this. Surprising that I find I like Narcissa quite a bit as she seems like an ordinary woman with whom one would take tea, and not a Death-Eater's moll (if I have the word right.) Well done and I can't wait to read more:)Warm regards,Fizzabella
Response from WriterMerrin (Author of Antidotes)
What an amusing image of the DEs as gangsters. But yes, Narcissa has been emersed in darkness her whole life, but I think she hasn't lost her humanity like others did. Thanks!
I don't buy Ron's excuse...
Response from WriterMerrin (Author of Antidotes)
Aww, poor Ron. He doesn't mean to be wrong; he just is.Thanks!
