Many people were affected by Voldemort—his followers, his victims, and the innocents who had been caught up in the war. After the war is over, how are they dealing? As the Wizarding world recoups, rebuilds, reorganizes, and adjusts to the social and economic changes caused by the aftermath of war, there are still people fighting to correct the wrongs that are out there. Hermione is one, so is Draco. Lucius is another.

I love to write. A dreamer, a creator and filled with wonder, imagination and life. Sometimes I get lost in the other worlds I've read and in some I create. It's all good, I’m in good company.

this is developing very interestinglyi like that you're showing how that whole marriage BS is slowly creeping in: new idea is taking root, the decision makers get interested, and the public is being swayedusual MLC's used to give you "Hermione opens the Prophed one morning and is appaled" scene; that got old quicklythank you for the read!!!M.

Thank you very much. Yes, I am looking at this in historical (RL historical) accounts on how 'atrocities' happen and they don't happen over night. Hitler and his SS didn't happen over night and that was post war-war time thing. Although there is going to be a few 'Hermione opens up the paper and is appaled' in this story, repeatedly. But yes, the public is being swayed, some like it, many accept it and a few will rebel. That to me is realistic.I hope you continue to enjoy this as I go along. Thank you so much for the review.
I love Goyle! He's turned into a giant teddy bear. :)
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of The Swing of the Pendulum)
Well, he's nice when he wants to be and still a thug of sorts when he's mad. He sees Hermione as one who saved his sorry arse in the RoR, so he's seeing her in a new light. Plus having her help him pass Muggle Studies doesn't hurt how he sees her either. Yep, his eyes have opened!
Looks as though "the swing of the pendulum" is about to start overly favoring Muggle-borns over purebloods, and that is only going to lead to more of the same trouble as before. I sincerely hope that the graduating seventh and "eighth" years will be able to change things to a more moderate outlook when they enter the Wizarding workforce... however, if purebloods are being passed over for Ministry positions in favor of Muggle-borns, that's going to be difficult for resentment not to fester even in the group of students who may have initially vowed to work together. I do hope that Draco doesn't let anger and bitterness drive him back down the very road that his father had been on.Fascinating story, still! I am watching for updates to this one like a hawk!
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of The Swing of the Pendulum)
Yes, exactly - unfortuately. The 7th and 8th years are going to stand up against this - more or less. That is where I'm actually going... sort of - or will.Thank you very much. I hope you like where this is going.
What a fascinating take on a post-war wizarding world, and it sounds very much as if the "pendulum" is swinging in favor of those with muggle blood instead of those with pureblood heritage. I can definitely see how things could turn ugly again, especially considering the hideous treatment and outright slaughter of so many muggleborns during the war. Good thing Hermione and her friends seem to have recognized the possible dangers and are keeping an eye on things. I think Draco and Greg and their friends approaching Hermione and hers may be a very good thing for all of them ... in more ways than one.

Thank you. My dad always loved history, the good and the bad, and so I borrowed heavily from what I remembered from after WWII and war torn UK, adding and changing things to be wizardkind - not Muggle. It's not a pretty picture. Yes, as happens, the wizarding world is flipping a great deal of things over - 'to the other side of the coin' so to speak and it's going to get ugly. Yes, Draco turning to Hermione and friends is possibly a good thing, but I think he also wants to throw it in her face a bit. He's angry - and will be more so. Thank you for the review and the pretty stars.
awesome start, can't wait to read the next chapter!
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of The Swing of the Pendulum)
Thak you very mcuh. It's coming...
I think Hermione is right in thinking that if the girls drop their paternity suits that the guys will be required to marry their already approved matches. They must not drop their suits.
I'm wondering what is so horrible about Ron's approved match that he would refuse to even discuss it. She is related to Graceilla Warblock? Could she be Healer Blumfeild's ugly daughter? Or Graceilla's sister or daughter? Or maybe Graceilla herself? Whoever she is, she must be a right terror.
Merilynn-Elizabeth Lovelle is very dissatisfied with her job right now. This nonsense with the Social Heritage, Marriage, and Registration Committee has been making her life a living hell, and the demands of Graceilla Warblock, puffed up warbler that she is, is taking the meaning of Hell to new heights. I think she may be very inclined to help the witches and wizards opposed to this foolishness bring down the entire law.
I can't tell you how delighted I am to find out that Severus is alive!!! Yay! for Severus. He's such a brilliant Potions Master and researcher. Of course, being in service to the Dark Lord at the time, he would have been publishing under a different name prior to becoming a professor at Hogwarts. The name he chose to publish under is very fitting for the Half-Blood Prince. Hermione's staunch defense of him to the students present in their meeting was very gratifying for this reader.
Now what will he say when he receives the owl from Hermione, or Draco, asking for his help? I have a feeling that his help with coming up with a fool proof way to undo the Sterilization Curse will be critical! But will he want to get involved? Merlin, I hope so!
With things as they now stand, it looks as though there are going to be many witches and wizards pursuing further education after leaving Hogwarts. I'm heartened by the support that both Minerva and Poppy are giving the students while making it seem like they are doing what the S.H.M.R.C. wants them to do.
Lordy! What a busy chapter this is. Well done!Beth

You are right on that one, only if Hermione had gone along I’m sure she’d have insisted on getting it in writing! However, Ron and Harry were already matched up, so it would have been a mess.
You’ll see why later on why Ron’s upset, but yes, the girl knows Graceilla Warblock, but I can’t say how just yet. And it’s more poetic justice for me than anything… As for Merilynn-Elizabeth she’s a ‘well organized and everything is a certain way’ type of individual. The S.H.R.M.C. is doing things their own way and (much like Child Welfare) was given too much power initially and no one has curtailed them in. So the S.H.R.M.C. is making her job difficult. Good to have someone in the MoM on your side. Lol
Yes, Severus is alive and well enjoying the sights and brewing potions. I think he deserved a peaceful and stress free vacation, don’t you. Besides, he’s not in thin mess of the Marriage Law being out of the country and presumed dead. I didn’t think that he’s have used Snape so much while publishing as long as he thought his name was tainted. He does respond and I think you’ll get a kick out of what he says.
As for ‘higher education’ 2/3 of the graduating student body will have something lined up. More than what would be normal I’m assuming. Lol
Thank you very much for the review and pretty stars. I like long ones that have a lot of questions, even if I won’t answer all of them.
What tangled webs you have woven. Very well written story so far and very enjoyable.

Thank you very much, and thank you for the reveiw and the pretty stars.
I am really enjoying the story and Draco's attempts to humanize himself.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of The Swing of the Pendulum)
Tnakn you very much, and thank you for the review and pretty stars.
Draco his having a dreary summer indeed. I hope he will eventually be able to earn Harry's friendship. There is so much for Hermione to do with her new job. All those file cabinets and forms would give me a migraine. but I have no doubt that she will come up with a plan to make it better and easier to use. And do well in school. It was great of Harry to lend her the money to buy her school supplies, and the books that Mr. Arlington gave her will help in her fight against the Marriage Law.This gets more and more interesting! I hope we see some of the things she reads about the things that heppened during the Inquisition and other times when wizards were under duress.Beth
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of The Swing of the Pendulum)
Draco is having a tough summer and I havn't given him much reprieve. In the next chapter we see some of Draco's efforts to befriend Harry, agian.Yes, it's quite the dream job. lol All those forms, I only mentioned a third of them! but yes, she'll get things organized in time, and as if she'd do poorly in law school! Harry knows her well enough to trust that she'd pay him back or at least it would be a good investiment in a friend if she didn't. Not that she wouldn't pay him back! Yes, that was Mr. Arlington's hope.Thank you, I'm glad you are enjoying this story. I might have some of it come up. I have a lot of things twisting together right now, so I'll hav eto see.Thank you for the review and the stars.
Oh, this just keeps getting more and more complicated. But Draco is really trying, isn't he?
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of The Swing of the Pendulum)
Yes, he's trying. lol Thank you for reviewing and the stars.
Really neat story.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of The Swing of the Pendulum)
Thank you very much.
Draco is persistent, I'll give him that! :)
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of The Swing of the Pendulum)
Yep, he's used to getting what he wants.
Hermione seems to be effective at work, and she has a very good boss. Draco worked hard at hosting Harry, and Ginny seems pragmatic enough to be friendly to him. But this Charles Harper thing seems to be a potential disaster. Can Draco help find Charles an acceptable bride who wouldn't mind being Mrs Harper? I am anxious for Lucius to get out and start helping. And where is Narcissa???? Thank you for the new chapter!
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of The Swing of the Pendulum)
Would you ahve expected anything less of our girl? Yes, Draco wanted to make a good impression, to win Harry over. Ginny and he had developed a good rapport at school. I dont' think Draco is in teh matchmaking game, lol. Lucius gets out soon, really soon. Crissy is 'thinking' in France. Isn't that what rich ladies do, go somewhere to think?Thank you for the review and the pretty stars.
Oh, another very intense chapter.Just a short stop here ... there's another chapter waiting to be read.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of The Swing of the Pendulum)
Yes, it is a bit, huh? k Thank you for stopping by and reviewig. The stars are pretty too.
Lovely chapter, Harry is a great friend and I'm betting those books will come in handy.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of The Swing of the Pendulum)
I think that Harry knows her well enough to not only have her living with him, but lend her money. She's seems so self-conscious to do the right thing in canon. Also, he knows she's itching to have her books. Oh, yes, the books Mr. Arlington added will be abonus. Thank you for the review and the pretty stars.
Now she is armed with information, will she make some porogress? :)
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of The Swing of the Pendulum)
She'll be swamped for a bit - new job and all, but oh she'll try. Thank you for the review.
I like the way everyone helps Hermione with her protest.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of The Swing of the Pendulum)
Thank you, and thanks for the review.
I like how you set the mood of the chapter by showing the weather. So Draco is finding out that earning Harry's friendship will take some effort. Loved that.Lucius doesn't seem as changed by his interrogations as Draco and Greg had been. The job at the Ministry and all those reports, and forms... looks like Hermione has her hands full. How will she balance Law scool and being Ernest's assistant?
Response from beaweasley2 (Reviewer)
Thank you very much. Yep, Draco will actually have to earn Harrys friendship. New ground for him.Not so much now, but he is changed, how could he not.Yep, bureaucracy at its finest. She will manage, loads of college students have to work to pay for school.Thank you for the review.
Edithe and Graceilla are quite a pair of old bitties! arent' they. Lay there and take it like rag dolls. geeezeI like how Hermione had to work to get what she needed to go to law school, instead of having it handed to her. More realistic this way. And it's nice that she turned to Molly for advice. Funny that networking works in the wizarding world too. good chapter.
Response from beaweasley2 (Reviewer)
Yes, these two are really a piece of work! I didn't want to just hand it to her on a silver platter, and yes, it makes it more real this way. Thanks Molly is like a mother to her, and a woman who'd know.Thank you very much for the review.
Greg a dad - how cute! He'll be a good dad.I wondered how Hermione and Luna got around the 'virgin untouched' thing in Severus' directions. Leave it to Luna to ask a unicorn for help. lolWhy didn't Hermione just admit that the potion was created by Severus Snape? Surely he's auitted and everything?
Response from beaweasley2 (Reviewer)
Yep, oops! But I think he'll be a great dad. I realized I'd snagged my self on that one - so this was a way out! Luna is great for the odd but truthful answer.I think she was still wanting to keep his secret or at least try to portect Severus. Severus hasn't had a trial or a hearing. MoM thought/thinks he was/is dead.Thank you for the review.
Poppy suggesting that Hermione go to law school was priceless. I hope that Poppy doesn't get in trouble for her letter. Stress, the chowder and the Pseudopregnancy Potions - she actually blows thier secret!I loved Severus' reply - it's so him and the directions were hilarious as well as his snarky comments. Harry was being very good to Hermione warning her of Ron's actions, but that really had to hurt. And then Draco tells her he's petitioned for her - talk about bad timing! And what a Slytherin, backing up the sterility plan so he has an out! grr
Response from beaweasley2 (Reviewer)
The idea had to come from someone! Poppy will be jsut fine. She's too god a Healer to fire!Thank you - I thought it was so like him when I wrote it.Harry was only trying to be a friend, but i'm sure it hurt her, deeply. And Draco's timing couldn't be worse or more unappreciated, considering she's trying to keep everyone from being forced into marriages. Thank you for the review.
Severus is alive! Whoot! Loved Draco's line, "Send an owl." Hilarious!I knew that as soon as the girls got 'pregnant' the Ministry would be upset. Loved Poppy's and Mary-Elizabeth in this chapter. It's oggd to see others don't like the law either.
Response from beaweasley2 (Reviewer)
Yep, he's alive and in France!I loved that line too. Yep, that was bound to happen. and Poppy and M-E are fun gals to write. I'm glad you like M-E, she's based on someone I know.Thank you for the review.
I suppose that with everything going on, Bernice didnt get to come visit over Christmas and oogle Harry. too bad. Ron wwas a complete prat, and he'd just gotten lucky! You'd think that would've improved his mood some. It's not like she was really going to get pregnant. I hope Harry talks some sense in him. Or is this just a move to tear the relationship between Hermione and Ron apart?
Response from beaweasley2 (Reviewer)
Nope, maybe another year. Yes, Ron is playing the field and trying to stay off the S.H.R.M.C.'s radiar. No, Hermione only didn't want to be a 'pregnant' virgin and have to come up with a plasuable excuse. and to anser you, dunno yet.Thank you for the review.
Pseudopregnancy and Pseudocyesis Potions - interesting and a nice touch, inventive and convenient. I'm glad that you have Sltherins included instead of shunned in this story.
Response from beaweasley2 (Reviewer)
Thank you. I have all the houses involved. Thank you for the review.
'Proudly announce the Marriage Law and Proper Unions Act' - nice political way to put 'forced breeding!' I like that this is an anti-marriage law. It will be fun to see where this goes.
Response from beaweasley2 (Reviewer)
Yep we are building to bigger problems and tougher actions! Hold on to your hat.Thank you for the review.
