Many people were affected by Voldemort—his followers, his victims, and the innocents who had been caught up in the war. After the war is over, how are they dealing? As the Wizarding world recoups, rebuilds, reorganizes, and adjusts to the social and economic changes caused by the aftermath of war, there are still people fighting to correct the wrongs that are out there. Hermione is one, so is Draco. Lucius is another.

I love to write. A dreamer, a creator and filled with wonder, imagination and life. Sometimes I get lost in the other worlds I've read and in some I create. It's all good, I’m in good company.

Reviews for The Swing of the Pendulum
Even The Quibbler printed articles on how to transfigure things like leaves into bread and how to charm milk into cheese. milk intocheese is fine but leaves to bread? should maybe it be grains? i'm saying this because of the five laws of transfiguration or whatever they are called saying how you cant transfigure things to food. but if they are the main element i dont see why not.

You gave this some thought, didn't you? But remember these: Rocks into Dogs, Teapots into turtles, mice into spoons and snuffboxes - things are cahanged all the time form one 'element' to another in canon. Only in book 7 did she mentin the food thing. A convenient way to cover a hole she made. Many leaves are eddible and I didn't specify which ones you needed to use to make bread, and Some kids won't eat green things. That's why I chose 'leaves into bread.' Plus we are still talking plant into a plant product, fibrous into a fibrous food. Hope you see my logic. Thank you for the review, I hope you liked the rest of the chapter.
It's great to see Hermione, Draco and the others stepping up to defend themselves against the MLC's idiocy. With Gryffindors, Slytherins, Ravenclaws and Hufflepuffs working together toward a common goal, the MLC is in for one heckuva fight.
BTW, I'm really enjoying this most unique twist on the Marriage Law fic!
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of The Swing of the Pendulum)
Thank you very much. Yeah, I decided to take a totally different turn with my version. I considered the Hermione, Ginny, even Luna in canon and decided that they wouldn't have laid down and 'taken' it from the MInistry. They'd fight - rebel. I'm glad that you like my version and yes, It's going to be a fight! or a demonstration of strong wills.Thank you very much for the review and the pretty stars.
Oh, dear. O.O What has Mione gotten herself into?! Gods... this is all such a clever twist on what the Marriage Law has been! I'm looking forward to finding out who you are. I do love all of your OC characters, too, and the rapport Mione and Ginny are building with Draco. How are they going to explain why so many girls are "pregnant" to the Headmistress, though? It's going to look very odd. Lookin' forward to the next chapter, thank you for this one!

It's the DA all over only this time more students have signed up. Actually, I like ML fics, but so many times I"m thinking, 'why in the world is she taking this? Why is she such a doormat?' So I thought how I'd react and considered how Hermione, Ginny and all would act and came up with this - They'd fight it or rebel! I didnt have very many names for Ginny's year, only a few, so OC's are necessary. I'm glad you don't mind. And I wanted a Draco that was redeeming himself. Oh, You'll see McGonagall's reaction and it might surprise you.You are very welcome. Thank you for the review.
I love that the kids are being so proactive.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of The Swing of the Pendulum)
Thank you. I have always wondered why Hermione woul dhave been such a doormat in some ML fics, so I went with what I thought would be in character and had them fight it. I'm glad it's working out so well. Thank you for the review and the pretty stars.
Interesting semi-solution to a terrible problem.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of The Swing of the Pendulum)
LOL They are kids - give them a break. It will get messier as we go along. Thank you for reading and the review.
like the way all the houses are banning together against the ministry andall the politics and legalities that are involved.

Thank you,

. Yes, I thought that with Goyle and Draco mending a fence with Hermione, it led the way for a interhouse unity. Besides they all (mostly) want to fight this thing.
And this is where Hermione gets to actually prove that she is indeed "the brightest witch of her age"--this is just fabulously sneaky and brilliant! Glad to see that Draco and his Housemates are helping Hermione to find her inner Slytherin and pit it against the Ministry. I'm especially interested to see how Lucius reacts to all this once he finally finds out, and what he'll be able to accomplish from within Azkaban to help.Well, the Ministry did want unity between purebloods and Muggle-borns, and I think they're getting it in spades--just not quite in the way that they're no doubt envisioning! It's a new era of cooperation between purebloods, half-bloods and Muggle-born to force the Ministry to sod off."The Bastard Law"--love it! That's one of my favorite bits in this chapter. Can't wait until the next one!

Yes, Slytherins and Gryffindors are unititng behind a mutual cause, but then heck, if I were Slytherin, I'd want the brightest student in the school on my side and helping me get out of this too!
Lucius is having to 'give his testamony, just like Draco and Narcissa did, allowing the Wizengamot officails to view his memories and such. He'll have a harder time convincing them of his reform, or that he wsa Imperoused (sic?) but, Yes, his reaction will be fun to type.
Yes, well, I'm not sure that this was exactly what the Ministry or S.H.M.R.C. had in mind. LOL
I'm glad you liked the Bastard Law. It will certainly make things interesting.
Thank you for the review.
what about getting married in other countries or in Muggle ceremonies? would the Ministry try to invalidate those marriages? oh, I am so looking forward to seeing Lucius' reaction! perhaps Hermione and Draco can go together to see Lucius. hmm, perhaps even Arthur Weasley would have to work with Lucius for the common goal of nullifying the law.... thank you for the new chapter! very thought-provoking.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of The Swing of the Pendulum)
Pretty much the students are sitting ducks. I'm sure they would simply not consder Muggle marriages as valid and disregard them completely. Lucius' reactions - and others are forthcoming, partically written and in progress. But thank you for the thought provoking review!
Bastard's law! Brilliant! :)
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of The Swing of the Pendulum)
Thank you.
I'm sitting here totally slack jawed. Of course I had an inkling - ok, more than an inkling - of where the ministry wanted to head, but actually reading it, is just whoa.Hermione's idea for buying time is brilliant. Thank god Draco found the passage about the previously agreed engagement clause.Brilliant chapter, like always.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of The Swing of the Pendulum)
I didn't want to jsut have the 'she opened the paper and read..." Something like this comes from somewhere, and evolves into... then WHAM! Draco is a Slytherin, and Hermione is known to be brilliant. Since he's willing to put the past behind him, and it's in his best interest to have her 'brain' working on his side in this - they've joined forces. Anbition and cunning indeed!Thank you on the compliment of Hermione's idea. I'm working on how it will work out and if they succeed. I hope to have it done soon. Thank you for the review, apisa.
Umbridge is going to be totally pissed when all the eligible girls at Hogwarts turn up pregnant! LOL!!! I can't wait. One of my favorite plots involves a good battle of wits, and I'm looking forward to the collective wisdom of all the pissed off students running headlong into the somewhat single-minded madness of Delores Umbridge and her minions, Healers Creswell and Brumfeild, and Mr. Polister.Great chapter!Beth
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of The Swing of the Pendulum)
Thank you very much, brayer. Oh, Umbridge is carted off to jail in this one I'm afraid! But her friends and minions (That's a coool idea, thank you) wil be rightly frosted!I'm busily working on the next three chapters where the 'muck' begins! Thank you for the review.
I'm sure they will. It's always sad when tyranny evolves in the guise of helping people.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of The Swing of the Pendulum)
I agree with you. Thank you for the review.
Uh oh, sounds ominous! :)
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of The Swing of the Pendulum)
You don't know the half of it!Thank you for the review.
What a messed up situation. All the Ministry is succeeding in doing is fueling more anti-Muggleborn rage and resentment, and I have a feeling things will get much worse before long. I had liked the "changes" in Draco and Goyle's behavior, but clearly those "changes" aren't real. The "Grandparent" thing is particularly distressing, stealing children from their Muggle parents and giving them to wizarding folk, how horrible!
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of The Swing of the Pendulum)
Yes, it is rather messed up. Not only more Muggle-born resentment but creating pure-blood mistrust. Yes, things get worse. Draco and Goyle's behavior changes partly steams from their interrogations at Azkaban and having to relive their missdeeds. (I did that for a reason) and having to go back to school to take more classes in order to get their N.E.W.T.s It sucks. I know. Some of the attitude adjustment is real. Yes the grandparent thing was horrible. Sorry, but the swing is still moving. Thank you for reading and the review and the pretty stars.
sigh... just when I was thinking that Goyle and Draco were turning out okay! I wonder what Hermione and the other girls will be thinking. thanks for the new chapter!
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of The Swing of the Pendulum)
*pats back* Don't worry, not on that account. I will give as much as I can in each chapter, but harsh times lie ahead. You're welcome for the chapter, than you for reading and the review.
I'm liking Draco and Goyle in here. :) So far so good.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of The Swing of the Pendulum)
Yes, they have had some rehab in Azkaban and it made them reevaluate things. That and now they have to pass Muggle Studies to graduate. Thank you for the review.
dun dun dun...And now the world shall swing in the complete opposite direction.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of The Swing of the Pendulum)
yes, and boy howdy! Way *swish* to the other side!
It's a good first chapter. I'm shocked that Hermione now has a house-elf. That's something new, considering her usual stance. I hate what they did to Draco. I'm glad putting memories back into their minds is nothing like that in canon. That would suck.
The chapter itself was very wordy, but I guess that's to be expected with all the information you had to cram in for the set up of the story. I found myself losing my place and reading parts again, as it all seemed to fall together in some parts. ~on to the next~
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of The Swing of the Pendulum)
Thank you very much. Well, she decided that it was better to have Winky happy than miserable. I think she understands house-elves a little now, knowing Kreacher. I know, the reliving the memory as it's being put back isn't exactly mine, I read it somewhere, but it wasn't as tough as I described it. However, having to relive the memories will change Draco a bit. And Lucius. Yes, it sucks. I'm sorry it seemed wordy, but yes, there's a lot going on and it's only the beginning. Thank you for reading and reviewing.
Very very good start. I like that we're getting a feel of how the Malfoy's fare after the war.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of The Swing of the Pendulum)
Thank you very much. Yes, you'll be seeing more of Lucius in the future and Draco.
The new laws and regulations are taking the situation from bad to worse. I hope Hermione's and her her friends' efforts to get the truth out to the other papers will bear fruit, but I believe things will have to get much worse before people wake up. Will they be able to get the word out that the parents of Muggle-born wizarding children are being "legally finagled" away from their families and "given" to wizarding ones?Hummmmm... Maybe Hermione and Draco will soon be required to get married... or something. This is a well written and interesting story of the aftermath of war.Beth
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of The Swing of the Pendulum)
Yes, they are. It will take a while, but so far there isn't very much they can do. They are aware though. Thank you very much for the review. You'll see how things go and what pans out.
This chapter paints a fairly accurate picture of what it is like after a war – for the winners, the losers, and those caught somewhere in between. The only certainty I know of concerning the pendulum is that it traverses its path slowly, and there is always a group who is happy with the direction in which things are going, there is always a group who don't like it, and there are those who are afraid of change.Very interesting!Beth
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of The Swing of the Pendulum)
I used a reallife model of England after WWII as my inspiration, and what life was like. Then made it into magical terms and conditions. Unlike other ML stories, I wnated to build up to the marriage law and then deal with it how I think it would have been 'accepted'. No Dormat, 'oh, ok, I have to,' Hermione. So things are a little different. Thank you for the review, Beth, I hope you like what comes next.
Interesting take on the Marriage Law--I'm looking forward to seeing how this develops :)
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of The Swing of the Pendulum)
Thank you very much. Things are progressing in that direction!
The picture you paint is so full of details - albeit mostly not pretty ones; but I like your style of painting, so to speak.I simply love how you tell your story from many POVs and even include the paper articles to give the reader the full information the main characters have. The way your story mirrors DH in so many ways is a stroke of genius. Can you tell I adore your story?
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of The Swing of the Pendulum)
Thank you very much. Nope, things are not pretty out there and the student are getting worried.I know I don't have much Lucius yet, but I wated to show the pure-blood reaction (Draco and Slytherins) as well as Hermione and friends. This actually takes place after DH and beore (instead of) that epilogue. But thnak you for the compliment. I'm glad that you like my story. I bet you can tell what comes next, can't you?
It was nice to see Draco apologize. I like to think that he grew during the books, although he wasn't really allowed to show it for fear of death. LOL.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of The Swing of the Pendulum)
That and having to relive all his missdeeds in Azkaban opened his eyes a bit too, I suppose. Yes, I believe that by the beginning of DH, Draco didn't like the path he'd chosen, and has started to think for himslef. Thank you for the review,
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of The Swing of the Pendulum)
.
I really am glad that I had to pimp out this story twice so far. I didn't have time to enjoy the chapter on the day I had to pimp out the update, though; but today I had enough time to reread it and tell you how much I enjoyed this chapter.I really like your style of writing. You are telling so much of what's going on, not only in the main characters' lifes, but in the whole Wizarding World. The concept you created of Muggle-borns being seen as "free of deformities, both magical and physical" is an intriguing one.Draco and Goyle have suprised me positively. I hope they will be prominent in future chapters as well.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of The Swing of the Pendulum)
apisa, thank you so much for pimping my story. I smiled each time at which part you kicked for the sample snippet. I'm flattered that you came back to read it and obviously enjoyed the story. Mostly,I wanted a write a different take on the whole ML thing, more realistic and have the characters act as I think they would. ANd in order to have the wizarding world got to such an extreme, there had to be something going on - so here it is.I actually had raised rabbits before, and know a puppy breeder. One thing that you have to do is occasionally go to another breeder for 'stud service' to interject 'new blood' into your stock or you get congenital deformities and illnesses. So that's where that comes from. Muggles and Muggle-borns are the 'new blood lines. Oh, you'll see more of Draco and Goyle. Their time in Azkaban had a profound effect on both.Thank you so much for the thoughtful and thought-provoking review. I enjoyed it very much.
