Like many proud alumni of the honorable Hufflepuff House, ApollinaV is a rabbid Huffle-hugger, champion pear-tickler, and founding member of Cleansweep-Streakers Guild (the AV-Eyeful is so named in her honor). Since graduating Hogwarts, she done 'responsible' and 'professional' things - and resolves not to do that anymore. Dreadful amounts of paperwork.
Reviews for The Gilded Cage
Oh, wow. She sure is going to be surprised when he decides she's made a home for him and he wants to return to it. It makes me wonder if he's going to try to court her during their visits.
Response from ApollinaV (Author of The Gilded Cage)
Hermione's in for a lot of surprises. She's been making rash decisions from the get-go, and making assumptions based upon believing Severus is staying in Azkaban. There's a lot of potential for the other wand to drop. As for courting, the fic developes really slowly, it's character driven, and while there will be citrus, that's much later on. Thanks for your support, and working on the Q! AV
Response from WriterMerrin (Reviewer)
Well, I like character driven, and I like it when the citrus comes later when it will mean more.
I'm confused. He can get out of jail and doesn't want to. Why? Is it safer in there?
Response from ApollinaV (Author of The Gilded Cage)
No, it has nothing to do with safety. The plot hinges around it, but there is a reason why Severus would rather stay in prison. AV
He will smell nicer at least! :)
Response from ApollinaV (Author of The Gilded Cage)
Thank heavens for small mercies. -AV
Oh Snap! Severus can get out whenever he wants? Damn I'm sure Hermione isn't going to find that out untill she marries him! And Wackiness will ensue! This is really a lot of fun, I know I've told you that before. But seriously I love reading these updates. And I totally can't wait for more! Cheers! ~Brena
Response from ApollinaV (Author of The Gilded Cage)
I'll update every chance I can. But yes, there's a method to the madness and Hermione is in for some serious surprises. And hopefully, so are you. AV
this story is a lot funnier than your summary led me to expect. it's great! and I esp like the bit with the dog park.
Response from ApollinaV (Author of The Gilded Cage)
Wow, you liked the dog park comment. You must have a very dry sense of humor. We should get along famously. I'm glad you liked it even if the summary is lacking. AV
this story even reads better the second time! i missed that part about the dog park the first time. great stuff! thanks so much
Response from ApollinaV (Author of The Gilded Cage)
A second time? Are you a glutton for punishment Kimjo? No, that's ok. I'm just thrilled you like it. Obviously well enough to read it twice. All the best! AV
One question: why has Dumbledore's evidence not been released? Who has it?
Response from ApollinaV (Author of The Gilded Cage)
Very simple answer with complex reasons: Severus doesn't want it to. He's there by his own personal choice, and plot hinges around that fact. I hope you'll continue to read and watch it unfold! AV
How very Slytherin of him. I really do hope we get to read the contract in the next bit! =]
Response from ApollinaV (Author of The Gilded Cage)
Oh, the contract should be up soon along with the negotiations. Hermione's in for some hard truths. All the best, AV
Make the most of it, Sev! :)
Response from ApollinaV (Author of The Gilded Cage)
Absolutely. Quid Pro Quo is a very Slytherin concept. And why not? She's benefitting from the arrangement. Thank you for reading. AV
Nesting. I don't think so. :)
Response from ApollinaV (Author of The Gilded Cage)
Somehow I don't see Hermione nesting too much. She's too driven. That, by the way, is what my Mother used to tell me. Ha! AV
Skip the small talk indeed! :)
Response from ApollinaV (Author of The Gilded Cage)
She got to the point real quick, didn't she? Hermione swings a pair of brass balls in this fic, except when she's feeling vulnerable and insecure. AV
Oh god. I really am curious about his list. You haven't painted a nice picture of the post war Wizarding World. Rather depressing, methinks.
Response from ApollinaV (Author of The Gilded Cage)
Oh good. It is rather depressing, in a glossed over 'The War never happened - kindly go about your business' sort of way. Severus' list and contract negotiations are forthcoming, and I hope you enjoy them too. Thanks for reading, AV
Good four chapters - I'm intrigued! I like how she clearly despises him and hasn't got any secret fantasies stored up. And I like how he thinks and swears and had lusfully homicidal fantasies as a professor. Keep updating!
Response from ApollinaV (Author of The Gilded Cage)
Lustful Homicidal fantasies are great!!! Sigh. I just wanted to avoid the pit/trap where SS/HG have secretly been in love with each other forever. Different is good. I hope you like different. There's more different coming. AV
Nice. So I totally want to know the demands! I can think of a few fun things I would want to demand of Severus. Keep up the good work.
Response from ApollinaV (Author of The Gilded Cage)
Thanks! They'll negotiate it out across the table, and I promise that it will be a very revealing chapter.I hope you continue to enjoy the story. Thank you for reading! AV
great story...but i already knew that! really it's quite a brilliant way arround the marriage law. thanks so much
Response from ApollinaV (Author of The Gilded Cage)
You are so silly, you know that? Prolly why you rock love. Thanks for the support, I appreciate it. AV
"Every last guard in the prison lumbered through the hallways with the grace and finesse of a mountain troll"... That's just poetry. Simply beautiful! My favorite line in the whole chapter! I'm looking forward to see how Severus manages to display his fine Slytherin skills of deal-making to squeeze the most out of Hermione's offer. On to the next chapter...
Response from ApollinaV (Author of The Gilded Cage)
I expect him to squeeze every desire his little heart has ever wanted into it. Thank you for the sweet compliment. Poetic writing has never been my strong suit, so sometimes when I can pull something out it's a happy moment. -AV
There's always flaws in the best of plans. For our greatest pleasure *grin*
Response from ApollinaV (Author of The Gilded Cage)
Of course! That's exactly what plot is. Nobody reads about ordinary people doing mundane things in a perfectly predictable fashion. Where's the fun in that? Bring on the twists and turns... and buckle the strap. AV
I am enjoying this story. What is a "minger?"
Response from ApollinaV (Author of The Gilded Cage)
I'm so happy you're enjoying this. Minger is an unkind Brit slang word for an unattractive girl. It's not a nice word at all. -AV
I do think Snape will find a way around section 4, paragraph 6, sub-section 3a. Or will Hermione search one? I'm looking forward to Snape's conditions.Nesting? A witch is supposed to be nesting? LOLNo, not Hermione. I can't even imagine the softer canon version of Hermione to be nesting, much less your Hermione.
Response from ApollinaV (Author of The Gilded Cage)
Funny you bring that up. That particular subsection will indeed come up at some point in time. Before then we have to get past those 'homicidal urges.' It's a long plot and character development. I this fic is mostly written and will be about 160,000 words, so I hope you continue to enjoy it. AV
yeah! keep up the good work - love your take on Hermione - thanks for sharing
Response from ApollinaV (Author of The Gilded Cage)
Thanks. I love a strong Hermione who works hard and doesn't take too much crud from others, but that doesn't mean she's without her vulnerabilities and insecurities. I'm glad you liked it, I hope you continue to enjoy it. AV
Thank heavens Ron took the rejection well. I'd love to see the reactions of the wizards who got the 'itchy' powdered notes. LOL Brilliant dear. She's a different sort of Hermione, isn't she? Not wanting children is understandable, but she seems like she's anti-social almost. I think that's a very interesting position for her character. Good one. I think you're set for a lovely set of interactions between the 'happy couple'!! LOL
Response from ApollinaV (Author of The Gilded Cage)
Ron can be whiny and immature, but he's also a strategist. And what Hermione's got planned makes sense from that standpoint. Aside from which, I cringe when some writers make him over-the-top petulant and irrational. Nobody is that shallow. Hermione is more grown up and what I envision she would act outside the structured school environment. There is also a bigger reason for some of her anti-sociability that's to be revealed. Thanks! AV
Yup, Still Love it! Just seeing Hermione being so Hard-Core and just not being wishy-washy warms my heart. Argh, I hated how whiney JKR made her in DH! And you made Ron just right, all gushy and what about the babies and stuff. He is as "deep as an ink pot". Hahaha. Thanks for the update. Much Love ~ Brena
Response from ApollinaV (Author of The Gilded Cage)
She's a grown witch. But then, she's always been a grown witch under that bushy head. I'd say she was pushing thirty before she hit 16. I think JKR dumbed her down a bit as a foil, but that's probably a huge disservice and contrary to the actions of the character. All the best, AV
Thanks for treating Ron with some dignity. He is definately showing signs of maturity. Even though he wants a mothering type for a wife he at least understands that Hermione is not the one for him and is willing to let her go gracefully.Charlie huh, maybe all that time on the run made her into an adrenaline junky. She certainly does have a thing for the elusive bad boy type but then don't we all.As for her not wanting children, "Me thinks the lady dost protest too much," I know I did.Great update.
Response from ApollinaV (Author of The Gilded Cage)
Ron deserves some dignity. He gets type-casted too much. And the irrational whiny child act that he's given often as a bad plot device just doesn't often feel genuine. I think were someone that immature, neither HP or HG would stand them. Aside from the fact that chasing after Death Eaters and Voldemort has to be a very maturing experience. Charlie. Charlie is there because I cringe sometimes by the Virginal-Hermione thing I sometimes see. Or that she's only been with Ron and is completely unworldly. I don't think that's realistic... and yeah, I do think she's got a thing for bad boys. Yes, we all do. -AV
Thanks for not making Ron the most stupid prat that walks the earth. He has his limits, but they are higher than that. You've already increasd my vocabulary on the-term-you-never-learn-at-school, and I'm looking forward for more!
Response from ApollinaV (Author of The Gilded Cage)
He's real, and he's human, but to make him over-the-top immature and whiny is to turn him into a cartoon.Did you just nicely say I was a potty-mouth? Too funny! Thanks m'dear. -AV
Response from Bettina (Reviewer)
As a non-native speaker, who's been out of school for more than half her life (you may do your maths...) I did mean this literally! We learned the absolutely no-do words, of course, or then we found them in a dictionary. But all those in the grey zone are neither in a dictionary nor in a textbook, and they change too rapidly to keep up. Thankfully they're in the WWW these days. Bog paper is one example. Thanks for all 3 replies!
Ahh, Snape will be Snape, whatever the circumstances.Great thoughts of an even greater wizard. what I didn't get yet is when you split off from canon--did Snape kill A.D., and this is why he's convicted? Does Hermione believe it?
Response from ApollinaV (Author of The Gilded Cage)
Here's the split: SS gets bitten by Nagini, starts to die (Split:but doesn't), he releases his memories, which are collected by HG and others, HP witnesses memories in pensieve (Split: doesn't tell a soul about what he's seen. Only HP is aware of them or knows of his innocence.) HP wins Final Battle, per JKRs description. (Split: SS receives medical attention, and is hauled before the Wizengamot for being a Death Eater)Hermione does believe it. As far as she is aware, SS is a DE who betrayed AD and the Order.I hope that makes sense to you. Thanks, AV
