Like many proud alumni of the honorable Hufflepuff House, ApollinaV is a rabbid Huffle-hugger, champion pear-tickler, and founding member of Cleansweep-Streakers Guild (the AV-Eyeful is so named in her honor). Since graduating Hogwarts, she done 'responsible' and 'professional' things - and resolves not to do that anymore. Dreadful amounts of paperwork.
Reviews for The Gilded Cage
I like Severus' perspective that religion is personal and doesn't get preachy. The book aught to be an interesting read.Looking forward to seeing what happens next!
Response from ApollinaV (Author of The Gilded Cage)
Oh no. There needed to be a discussion of religion - it's a story about redemption, so it's almost obligatory. But there's no need to preach or be high-handed about it. Thank you, sweetie! AV
On first readthrough I thought Hermione couldn't deny Sev his conjugal rights (should he get free) and wondered why she'd let that get past her. Got it straight the second time - and of course the Ministry probably inserts that clause anyway. I love that she was offered Snape's job, and declined it.
good twist on the tried and true marriage law, cute to see that it's still going :)
This is a fabulous story, I was a bit put off at first, but I noted the favorite count and pressed on, and I'm very glad I did. I'm only sorry now that I've caught up and will have to wait for more chapters. I love the Latin chapter titles and the hints of Greco-Roman traditions. I see pureblood Wizarding tradition as having closer ties to older cultures, simply because they live longer and it is therefore fewer generations back. Only a constant influx of modern culture brought in by Muggle-borns makes them closer to our normal. I'm waiting to see you sneak in Janus, the guardian of doorways :o)
Response from ApollinaV (Author of The Gilded Cage)
I don't think I ever managed to sneak Janus in, but he would be an excellent fit. So glad I tempted you into reading and following! All the best, AV
I have to say I'm thoroughly enjoying this story! I tend to go for the angsty type stories and I'm more than satisfied with what you have here, but I'm also loving the LOL moments. (Literally--I have laughed out loud on multiple occasions. As a U2 fan for the last 20+ years, the comment about Bono popping up where he's not expected was priceless!)So I hope you'll update again soon. I normally don't read incomplete works because I don't like getting sucked into a story only to have that story be abandoned...so I took a chance and I'm glad I did. Looking forward to the chapters to come!
Response from ApollinaV (Author of The Gilded Cage)
~adores suddenly-appearing Bono~ And I'm so glad I've suckered you into this. <3 AV
Nice touch of religious philosophy there, AV. :)
Response from ApollinaV (Author of The Gilded Cage)
Why thank you, Sweetie. AV
Well, religion is always bad, the church I was raised is for endless punisment. I like the idea for a book for the public to read.
Response from ApollinaV (Author of The Gilded Cage)
Well, the court of public opinion will judge him anyway - they might as well hear his story. Thanks! AV
Well, it seems they have turned a rather large corner. I love the back story the last two chapters have afforded us. Intriguing to say the least.Thank you so much for sharing, I do enjoy your updates. I look forward to them, as I do spring~

I'm so glad you're enjoying them. And yes, they are moving toward a new direction. All the best, AV
I was glad you mentioned Secular Humanists since that description fits me. Somehow people think it is necessary to be religious in order to have morals. I love this story. I look forward to future chapters!
Response from ApollinaV (Author of The Gilded Cage)
Oh absolutely. There's no reason why moralist philosophy belongs only to the religious, but to omit a discussion of religion entirely would be a terrible oversight. Thanks! AV
I don't understand marriage fics that only amount to "She's in distress. So-and-so steps up. Will they fall in love?" But it's a much more potent plot device than that, with all its potential for mischief. Thanks for being one of the few exploring the unintended consequences.
Response from ApollinaV (Author of The Gilded Cage)
*grins winningly It's because I enjoy angst and emotional discomfort. Horrible, innit? ~tosses characters into water to swim~ Thank you, sweetie! AV
Your writing style is first-rate, and this is just a groovy story. I'm as happy as Snape in an armchair. And! there 23 more chapters to enjoy!
Response from ApollinaV (Author of The Gilded Cage)
Groovy story? I'll take it! Thank you m'dear. ~offers up a squashy chair for you to enjoy~ AV
I think I love you. Please update soon.
LoL, crackberry!
Gah!Speaking of addictions, I need more now, please?
Response from ApollinaV (Author of The Gilded Cage)
It's coming sweetie. <3 AV
I don't know if Hoegaarden and pizza go well together, but Hoegaarden by itself sure is tasty!
Response from ApollinaV (Author of The Gilded Cage)
Oh I'm a big beer and pizza fan myself, but you may be right. I may have to research this one further. *grins* Thank you! AV
I am seriously enjoying this story. I love the different view of Hermione. I could never really see her married to Ron. Having her marry as a business arrangement is just brilliant. I can not wait to see how this develops.
Response from ApollinaV (Author of The Gilded Cage)
I like a strong Hermione. She still has her own vulnerabilities and annoying insecurities, but I don't like a shrinking violet Hermione. I think this fic will be about 160,000 words, so I hope you continue to enjoy it. AV
Response from celticreader (Reviewer)
Not many people seem to have that view on Hermione. Most people have her strickly in her books and unaware of the world at all. I enjoy a strong Hermione. Oh wow... I haven't read a good, long Hermione story in ages. I love long fics. I can't write them to save my life, but I adore reading them. I can't wait to see what comes next. Now I am even more excited! Thanks so very much.
Unusual.I'm looking forward to how your story will unfold.
Response from ApollinaV (Author of The Gilded Cage)
It is unusual. I do like different. I hope it works, and you continue to enjoy it. AV
This is just what I needed. A bad-ass Hemione! Woo-Hoo! Seriously great start, I can't wait to see what happens next. Cheers ~ Brena
Response from ApollinaV (Author of The Gilded Cage)
I'm all about strong females. Stories where she just gets used/abused have their place in the fandom, but not really my writing style. AV
Well after a quick Google search, I have found that you have indeed finished this fic and it is on FF.net! So to anyone who is looking for this story check over there!
Ohh I hope this fic isn't abandoned. It was getting so good too! You are an excellent writer. :D
i've read most of this story on AFF and to repeat...one of the most interesting takes on the mariage law i've read. your characterizations are spot on and you write well and amusingly. thanks so much
Response from ApollinaV (Author of The Gilded Cage)
Yes, I started posting there first, but when I realized I had a 'hit' on my hands I thought it would be lovely to share to the other archives. -AV
Oh this was fun!! I can't wait to read more. Some great dialogue and Snape lines. And I liked the phrase "bowtruckle's chance in a bonfire."
Response from ApollinaV (Author of The Gilded Cage)
That's one of my favorite lines too. I wanted to think of something that would be similar to a 'snowballs chance' and couldn't come up with anything until the inspiration for the Bowtruckle's chance hit me. I hope you continue to enjoy the fic. -AV
I personally would marry anyone if it meant regular bathing, were I in his shoes!! LOL I like the interchange. It was absolutely primal, nearly like one of the doco programs on the Discovery Channel! Very clever.
Response from ApollinaV (Author of The Gilded Cage)
He definitely does have some serious incentive for marrying her. Like on the Discovery channel, fantastic. Too funny. -AV
I always believed Slytherins were the perfect foible for Gryffindors. For someone who didn't ever want to take a risk again he's letting his boredom talk him into something rather risky, of course he will make sure there are lots of benefits. No sex? Well at least that will give them time to discover each other that's the most intriguing part of any romance.
Response from ApollinaV (Author of The Gilded Cage)
Severus Snape is very much about the WIIFM (What's In It For Me) and I don't blame him considering how he's been used in the past. No sex. It's a decision on my part to develop the stories and characters to avoid the trap whereby characters go from hate to shagging and in love in three chapters or less. AV
incredible - one of the best ideas I've seen - thank you so much for sharing and may I encourage you to continue with timely updates - I can't wait to see where you take this
Response from ApollinaV (Author of The Gilded Cage)
Thank you! It's mostly completely written. Well, it's done through 40-odd chapters, so posting takes as long as the queue to post. I'm thrilled you like the concept, I can only hope you'll stay captivated. AV
