Darned Child and Devsgma have combined their talents to tell you the story of what has happened to our favorite pair. It starts with a few letters from one extremely grouchy Potions maker to the manager of a used book store. Canon through Deathly Hallows to the point of Severus Snape's supposed death at which point it becomes AU.

Reviews for Beyond 84 Charing Cross Road
Lol... that's a great note to self.Of course, I think Severus forgot to speak with her about the books and his Hogwarts collection. That was the excuse he gave himself for going, was it not?
Response from devsgma (Author of Beyond 84 Charing Cross Road)
I had to giggle when I read it myself. Darned Child always delights and surprises me at the same time.It wasn't an "excuse." It really wasn't. He was completely and totally incensed to think of "his" books being there for someone else to paw through. Think of how he reacted in HBP when he thought Harry had his classroom Potion book. When he saw Hermione, and had a bit of a breakthrough, was when the books lost their hold on him. For the moment anyway. ;)

And why is it that that rotten little song always makes it appearance when someone says something nice like you did. You know. The one that goes: "You ain't seen nothing yet. Oohhh, baby! You ain't seen nothing yet."It's so danged irritating! ;)

He may have come in looking for a book, but he left satisfied without it!

Uhm – speaking with Simon's point of view here, I'm not at all sure that you could actually say he left "satisfied," but maybe willing to bide his time?

uh-oh, I guess there are quite a few ladies out there who would not mind a coffee break like this one...

We've got a duplicate here, and I'm not sure now which one I tagged to be removed, so I guess I'm going to respond to both. I rather imagine they'd stand in line. ;)

Yippee!!! I've just discovered that you've posted through Chapter 17 on Ashwinder. I probably won't get anything done for the rest of the day and it's all your fault. If I have any reviews of chapter 10 to 17, I'll leave them here on TPP because I have a hard time accessing my review responses on Ash for multi-chaptered stories. OK so I'm off to Ash.

I don't as a rule read WIPs, but your story summary sounded intriguing. I'm glad I took a chance. Your writing hasn't disappointed me. You've done well with the letter format, going from snarky to flirtatious. I have one question: Is the bird called Yorick because he has to listen to Simon's/Snape's soliloquies?
Response from devsgma (Author of Beyond 84 Charing Cross Road)
We're always pleased to welcome a new reader! Especially one who reviews so well.Yorick is called Yorick because I tried to find a suitable name for a "pet" for Simon/Severus to play off of while he was alone in his home. Obviously, something cute and froo-frooy wouldn't do at all. Then again, something normal and mundane didn't set well with me either. I have a hard time seeing Severus/Simon calling out Spot or Fido. I thought of Poe's Raven first as something suitably dark, and for some strange reason – know only to the innermost parts of my brain – that always makes me think of:"Alas, poor Yorick! I knew him, Horatio, a fellow of infinite jest, of most excellent fancy. He hath bore me on his back a thousand times, and now how abhorr'd in my imagination it is! My gorge rises at it."And so Yorick, the falcon, was born.

Excellent story! So sorry he's still got something for LIly after all this time! I do hope Hermione can help him get over both the nightmares and Lily. Thanks to both of you!

very romantic. much more so than some old sex scene could be. I meant to say earlier that it was a terrible shame that her parents were upset with her for her actions. I had rather imagined, when i read DH, that she let them know what would happen, so that if she did survive to bring them back, they'd know what had happened to them. anyway, a darn shame.
Response from devsgma (Author of Beyond 84 Charing Cross Road)
We've got a duplicate here, and I'm not sure now which one I tagged to be removed, so I guess I'm going to respond to both. Well, JKR never hinted that Hermione talked it over with her parents and I know Darned Child thought it over long and hard before deciding to go the way she did with it.Putting myself into her mother's shoes – there's no way in hell I'd agree to it to be frank. Go trapsing off to live in another country while my child could be in mortal danger? Uh – NO!

Very touching. You are doing a lovely job with this! I had to laugh, though, when Simon wrote to her about spuring his hangover potion, i could swear it was an old freind of mine. the turn of phrase, the smug and surly aspects mixed into freindliness. I know that man! Have done for decades! (fortunately for me, I am not married to him, but to a much more agreeable fellow!)
Response from devsgma (Author of Beyond 84 Charing Cross Road)
Thank you so very much. (And I'm glad you found your agreeable fellow. I found one of my own and I know exactly what you mean.)

another great chapter. I am touched by both of them being lonely. This is a charming tale. thank you for sharing it. I should be polishing a chapter of my own, but I am reading this.
Response from devsgma (Author of Beyond 84 Charing Cross Road)
I know the feeling. At this particular moment, I should be uploading the next two chapters for this particular story so the admins can look at them, but I'm procrastinating by catching up on the reviews I've procrastinated on long enough. I think it's a viscious cycle I've gotten myself into. ;)

Yay! The Isle of Man!I use Miss myself, having been married for over 2 decades, but having kept my name when I wed. (it is great fun to keep one's name and confuse people.)This is sweet and amusing. Grandpa Simon! :-) I like Simon's growing attraction to Hermione, and her being thrilled over the rare Transfiguration book.thanks for an amusing tale,Wahoo(Wesleyanne has no time to read fanfiction, not even mine.)

I love that Hermione put Miss Sneerwell's book in the fiction section. Very funny. I am pleased Mr. Sopohorous found it so, as well.

I wanted something light to read tonight and saw this had several chapters to it, and was listed under humor, so I began. I find your first chapter interesting and am glad it has a bit of mystery to it, too. Thanks to both of you. I am on to the next chapter.
Response from devsgma (Author of Beyond 84 Charing Cross Road)
Wonderful! We're always happy to welcome a new reader. Some of it may get rather dark at times, but hopefully a good dash of humor now and then will make it bearable – sort of like real life. ;)

Oh, I hope he wasn't letting her down easy, but was in fact missing the point of having dinner at her place!
Response from devsgma (Author of Beyond 84 Charing Cross Road)
I don't know that it was either, really. Simon/Severus isn't used to having attractive witches invite him to their homes for dinner – unless it was Narcissa, I suppose – so, I'm inclined to think it would be because he was unsure of exactly what she was "hinting" at.

Perhaps he doesn't need a potion, but an exorcist?

Well if he doesn't understand that she is free AND most definetely interested, this guy is helpless. For someone who's supposed to be pure sublety... As for his nightmare I'm sure they can work something like physical therapy maybe... *grin*

Ah, but see – you're looking at it from the perspective of having "normal" contacts with someone. "Normal" as in the type of relationships we all grow up with.I'm taking the view, he's never had anything of that nature to compare with. He's always been obsessed with dear, darling, wonderful, butter-don't-melt-in-her-mouth, Lily. So, I'm thinking most of the nuances we all learned – he hasn't.In fact, I'd go so far as to bet that there had been many a woman who gave up in frustration trying to get through to the dark haired bad-boy with the frown, or that if he did get the hint, he was probably sure it was some form of trick.
Response from snitchette (Reviewer)
Thinking that way of course. I didn't know that expression butter-don't-melt-in-her-mouth and I find it priceless.

How sad that he still holds on to Lily! Or is she visiting him? Gah! The POTION - Not that!... the colour is rather fitting Red = the colour of passion, blood, fire, Gryffindor. Sums up Lily... and Hermione. Hopefully he can get rid of his demon and pull himself out of the spiral of depression and hoplessness he seems to be embarking on.It would be his luck to end up back at Hogwarts.Great story as always. I am looking to reading more.Cheers.
