I stumbled onto the Potterverse in the summer of 2007, the weekend that DH came out, which was also the weekend I had a screening of the latest film. I reread HBP after starting DH and realizing it had been awhile, so, by the end of that weekend, I was overdosed on Harry Potter . . . and needed a fix! I stumbled onto SS/HG fics. These turned out to be far and away my favorite of these writings, in part because they're almost all wickedly erotic, funny as hell, deeply moving, and a vindication of intelligence as the ultimate aphrodisiac!
In RL I am an actor and a writer.

Now, my little dirty mind would very much like to know where Hermione learnt it all. Will you tell?

the scenario whereby she agrees to be his wife was well written and very believable. looking forward to chapter seven!

Thank you! I was so afraid that SSHG shippers would hate it, but it really needs to be dealt with in this story if I'm going to stay with canon. Thanks so much for reviewing! Can't wait for you to see where this is headed....

Very nice, and very interesting again! Thank you for this fascinating chapter.
Author's Response: Thank you so very much! It's quite fun speculating on those memories and on what those close to him knew about him--and didn't now. Thanks for reviewing!
This is the kind of story that makes me wish that all the chapters were already posted so I wouldn't have to wait for the next chapter. Oh, I am so curious!!
Response from Elise_Wanderer (Author of The Spirit That Remembers)
I know--it's very slow--but the TPP mods are very precise, they do try to get every detail right! I'm posting as fast as they validate, believe me...and I love that you're hanging in there with me! Thank you so much for reviewing!

I like the way you've written the way Harry's understanding of Snape changes with time and attention to the memories he gave Harry. I can almost see dawn rising over dark mountains. And the way Minerva came to think of Severus, and how she felt that she hadn't taken the time to truly get to him made me feel, somehow, that he would be accepted back in Wizarding society... With an Order of Merlin First Class, people would be reminded of the sacrifices that Severus Snape had made during his entire adult life to protect and defend those who could not, or would not, defend themselves.I want Hermione to figure out where Severus is staying and bring him home.Nice chapter, yes, very nice!Beth
Response from Elise_Wanderer (Author of The Spirit That Remembers)
Thank you, Beth. I'm glad you think he'd have been accepted. I do, too, at least by the people who mattered. I think in fact that JKR had that in mind by having Harry name his son after Severus (even though it was the boy's middle name--perhaps Harry would've thought of it as more of a private thing).I'd like to think also that Minerva would have taken time to rethink her own perceptions. Now it's up to Hermione to keep digging. And she's not a woman who leaves a task half-finished....Thanks for reviewing! More to come....-Wendy

I think Snape's death was J.K.R.'s greatest mistake and biggest gift to fan fiction. Yes, she killed him off, yet she did so in such a way that we could bring him back. With his portrait never appearing so many options did...
Response from Elise_Wanderer (Author of The Spirit That Remembers)
I have the feeling that she didn't do it on purpose, but her neglect of her very best character has certainly given us all a whole lotta wiggle room. No body, no portrait, very little thought after the fact.... Thank you so much for reviewing!

This is good. Are you going to be revisiting the utterly ridiculous timelines and making any sense of those at all? Because I dearly love to see people make sense of those things . . . like how Hermione says she Obliviated her parents, but a few days later has never cast a Memory Charm (but knows the theory)Looking forward to the significance of the chess set, too. I wonder is the red Lily and the black Severus?
Response from Elise_Wanderer (Author of The Spirit That Remembers)
I'm only dabbling a bit with that here. There are indeed some ridiculous inconsistencies. For an entirely different reading of a whole lot of that, Lariope's "Second Life" has some dynamite answers. And I may come back and tackle a few of these in another story (those memories fascinate me, especially the order they're in, which doesn't make complete sense). Here, though, I settled for raising a few of the questions that bugged me the most.I like your reading on the chess set! I hadn't even thought of it that way (and I suppose that, having invented a childhood chess set, I should've thought about who he might have played with once). I needed you around when I was writing this! Thanks for reviewing--I hope I can keep you intrigued!
Response from cmwinters (Reviewer)
Oh, I'm long aquainted with "Second Life" . . . just when I thought I couldn't detest DH any more, she kindly pointed out about the memory charm. I thought I was going to THROW something I was so infuriated. And yes, I do like the story. :)I'm looking forward to seeing you tackle the memories at a later time. Snape can be a fascinatingly intellectual character, and while I certainly like my share of fic that's simply easy to read and enjoy (when I get home from work, something pumped out by a first-time writer with no concept of plot can frankly be a nice way to unwind . . . no thinking necessary!), I also have a great affinity for the longer, more in-depth fics that require some thought to understand.I know what you mean about having invented something or understanding something, and then having your readers go someplace else with it entirely. I had an entire argument between Snape & Sirius planned out one time and my beta reader was like "but why is this even happening?" It took me three days of rather intense contemplation of the whole thing before I realised the answer was not only "well, because he is there," but also the deep, underlying root cause which *I* understood quite perfectly well, thanks very much, (and which made absolute sense to my beta, once explained). And if you weren't in that intuitive grokking of it with me, well . . . then all was lost. Likewise, I've had things I write, people seize on and think is all important, and I'm like, "er, that's really, like, utterly immaterial. Can you forget I wrote that part?">.<Not that I'm actually DOING any writing on that story . . . gack. But anyway, yes, please continue! I strongly suspect I will GREATLY enjoy reading!

I just loved this chapter! I laughed out loud so many times. The dialogue at the beginning was just priceless. You are such a witty girl, my dear!
Response from Elise_Wanderer (Author of The Spirit That Remembers)

What a beautiful chapter my dear! I must admit that I finished reading the rest of your story all in one shot(couldn't stop), thinking I was going to review right after.... Well, anyway, I'm back to do it now! :) Sorry about that...xoOJ

I'm flattered! Thanks so much for your sweet words and your ongoing support. 'Tis everything an author could hope for.
I think this little walk down memory lane will open Harry's eyes more than he realizes. Great chapter.

All the revelations of the memories Snape gave to Harry are leading inextricably to the knowledge that Severus Snape was the ultimate hero, and very badly used by Dumbledore.... the same way Dumbledore used Harry. Harry has come to a groundbreaking understanding of how much alike he and Severus Snape truly are.Great chapter!Beth
Response from Elise_Wanderer (Author of The Spirit That Remembers)
I believe you're right--Harry had a lot in common with Severus, and if he looks at it the right way, he might even realize that he had an easier time of it than Severus did. Which is saying a lot for an ill-treated orphan who only had to defeat the Dark Lord by dying himself! Thanks so much for reviewing!-w

The poem you chose for the beginning of this chapter was perfect. I loved watching as Harry's understanding of Severus Snape begin to encompass an understanding of how much the wizard suffered for his love and loss of Lilly Evans. This is beautifully written, and my hat is off to you.Beth
Response from Elise_Wanderer (Author of The Spirit That Remembers)
Thank you!I was initially inspired by the bit of the poem that starts everything off (Cold in the earth/And fifteen wild Decembers/From these brown hills have melted into spring./Faithful indeed/Is the spirit that remembers/After these long years of change and suffering, a fragment I first read just about the time of the 15th anniversary of my dad's death). Then as I was writing this, I started looking for more of her poetry, and discovered how much more there was that fit right in with what I writing about. In some cases, I already had the opening quote and the chapter title, and then realized how perfectly they fit. It was eerie! And when I found "that melancholy boy," I became convinced that Emily must have been writing about Severus. It certainly describes him.Put your hat back on, and and thank you for reviewing!!-w

That has been my assesment of Dumbledore. He was a manipulative person who used Severus and Harry as sacrifical lambs.Livvy
Response from Elise_Wanderer (Author of The Spirit That Remembers)
I'm not quite sure that JKR realized what a complicated character Albus actually is. I mean, he tried to set things up so that Severus would end up with mastery of the elder wand and Harry would be so incensed that he'd kill Severus, thereby gaining mastery himself (since he couldn't just give it to him). That's cold, right there! And he was damned secretive about everything (reminds me of Glinda at the end of Oz--she could've just told Dorothy to click her heels together at the start of everything!).But then, of course, there wouldn't have been all those adventures!-w

I could feel the pain and regret from Harry. You are telling a compelling story!Livvy
Response from Elise_Wanderer (Author of The Spirit That Remembers)
Thank you!I think it's clear from the Epilogue that Harry changed his mind about Severus (you don't name your son after someone you hate, even if he was also demonstrably brave), and I thought it was interesting to explore how he might have come to that.I really appreciate hearing from you!-w

Brilliant analysis, and a brilliant leading Hermione to all these conclusions. Great chapter!
Author's Response: Thank you so very much!
I think Hermione's a smart cookie...and more likely than Harry to be able to analyze those memories in detail.
Thanks for reviewing!
you know, i agree with harry that sometimes maybe one might need to make the ultimate sacrifice for the greater good. but it's best if the person doing the sacrificing makes an informed decision for themselves, isn't it? anyway, i'm looking forward to the next installment. :D

*sobs* Reading this brings back DH memories-- poor, poor Snape. He was simply the best character JK Rowling created, and he suffered the worst fate. *sobs again* Anyways, the update was lovely as always. I look forward to more (and I saw that there is more on Ash, but I will follow it here. I always like to finish a story on the same site I started it, lol!)~kizzy
Response from Elise_Wanderer (Author of The Spirit That Remembers)
I couldn't agree more--he's such a complex, tragic, intriguing character, and he deserved better from everyone around him (Harry, Albus, and even his creator). So that's what we're here for!Glad you're brand-loyal. Yes, it's on other sites (Ash and OWL), but TPP is lovely and wonderful to let me post here, as wel, so stick with 'em. I'll update as fast as they validate, and I look forward to hearing from you again. Thanks!-w
