I stumbled onto the Potterverse in the summer of 2007, the weekend that DH came out, which was also the weekend I had a screening of the latest film. I reread HBP after starting DH and realizing it had been awhile, so, by the end of that weekend, I was overdosed on Harry Potter . . . and needed a fix! I stumbled onto SS/HG fics. These turned out to be far and away my favorite of these writings, in part because they're almost all wickedly erotic, funny as hell, deeply moving, and a vindication of intelligence as the ultimate aphrodisiac!
In RL I am an actor and a writer.

Truly wonderful.Only one more chapter and the epilogue, you say? But, but, ... :-(

I've actually finished my Exchange fic and really adore what I've written, but that gets kept under wraps for a loooonnng time. Do have another little bunny that's started to creep out, but we'll see if we can coax it further (and find out how big it is, and now this metaphor is just getting creepy...)!

Perhaps Hermione's confesion of love wasn't so much a slip of the tongue as a last-ditch effort. Hmm? Personally, I believe in going after what you want.-Wahoo
Response from Elise_Wanderer (Author of The Spirit That Remembers)
Perhaps a bit of both. I have to confess, I'm not always as straightforward as I w ish I were. Maybe you could give me some lessons!! Thanks for reviewing, Wahoo!
Response from Wahoo and Wesleyanne (Reviewer)
Maybe I could! I have spend my adult life going after what I wanted, and it works often enough for me to think it a good idea. No maidenly bashful standoffishness here! ask the man out! I did it in the 70s, and I bet it still works today.

Snape strikes me as the sort who would actually act this way, denying himself even the change of happiness. But maybe I am misjudging the man. He did, after all, attempt to win Lily's friendship back after he called her a mudblood. But people can be so stupid and self-destructive. Thanks for these new chapters. you have crafted an exciting story here.

I do think he's the hairshirt type--beats himself up a lot and doesn't believe he really deserves what he wants. So glad you're enjoying it!

I am so happy that Hermione defended herself. Good for you, giving us a capable Hermione. We all know she's capable and logical. rather gory chapter, but at least she didn't have to wait for a hero to help her. (of course, she needs some help now, if she's ever to walk again without a limp.Wahoo
Response from Elise_Wanderer (Author of The Spirit That Remembers)
Yes, I do believe our heroine is quite able to defend herself. It's always nice to have a hero around, but she can handle herself.Though, you're right, she does need some help now. Thanks for reviewing!

lovely. *sighs* so everything is almost all resolved. as eager as i've been for updates, i will be sad when this story is over, but i'm looking forward to seeing how you tie up your loose ends. :)

Nice chapter, I like how Hermione had figured out how not to expose Severus's existence if he didn't want it to be known he was still alive.

It remains a riddle wether he has seen his memories or not, though I'm inclined to suppose he hasn't. And Hermione did come out quite all right, as it seems, though her injuries gave me the impression in being way over Snape's abilities. Their continued misunderstanding, though - well, it's to be expected, but oh do they both have to be SO complicated? I really admire you for being able to stand writing this! I can verly nearly not even stand reading it *g*...
Author's Response: The course of true love, and all that! At least in fiction, it will be all that sweeter when they finally do connect....
I do hope you'll be able to stand reading the next chapter. Thanks for reviewing!

As I've been away, it was a fast update for me, this and the next chapter. So a lot of my suspense and fear has already been alleviated. I'm SO glad nothing bad happened to one of them, and am curious where this rollercoaster will lead in the end!
Author's Response: Rollercoaster is a very good word for their journey--hang on tight, and make sure your seat belt is fastened, as it ain't over quite yet! (Four more chapters plus an Epilogue....)
Thanks for hanging in there!
Alcina vom Steinsberg's response: Uh-oh... now I'm REALLY afraid what is going to happen! ;o)
Well, it appears that Severus' attempt to push Hermione away has worked. He managed to hurt her bad enough that she wants to leave. I hope he's able to tell her how he feels before he does, or that he realizes what a mistake he's making by pushing her away. I see the next chapter is in queue; I can't wait until it posts so I can find out what happens next.

Arrrgh, misunderstandings!! Those two and their stubbornness! How sad. I love how you have ever so subtly developed their relationship, with little phrases, actions, and words-- *sigh* So romantic. I, of course, am hopeful for a happy ending, despite their wretched stubbornness!
Response from Elise_Wanderer (Author of The Spirit That Remembers)
They are both rather pigheaded, aren't they? But perhaps the fact that it goes both ways will help....I'm a big romantic, too, if that's any consolation. Thanks for reviewing!

Oh he is so hard headed! I'm surprised Aurors didn't show up. Surely the Death Eater was wanted by M.O.M.
Response from Elise_Wanderer (Author of The Spirit That Remembers)
Yeah, you'd think so, wouldn't you? Though the M.O.M. hasn't proved itself to be very efficient.... But that part of the storyline isn't quite through yet (wait a couple of chapters).Meanwhile, old Hard Head still has a ways to go. Thanks for reviewing!

Though it's terribly frustrating (in a good way) to read, emotional constipation makes for a really good motivator! I just want to throttle the both of them...Great job. Can't wait for more.

why?! (ow! i was so moved by this chapter i forgot i'm not supposed to type with my right index finger. that 'hy' hurt!) why does he say nothing, the stubborn bastard?! why does he refuse to show her any softness?! well, i guess i will trust that you will make it all right eventually. i will try to be patient. :)
Response from Elise_Wanderer (Author of The Spirit That Remembers)
Ow! If I hurt my right index finger I'd never be able to type again, as it's one of only three I use to type (I had my choice of touch typing or French in 8th grade, you see, et je parle un tres peu de Francais and type very badly!).Hope the next chapter makes up for the pain. Thanks for reviewing...and for being patient!Hope your finger gets better, too.

I hope they both start talking to each other. They could have their hearts' desires or stay miserable. Suspenseful, addictive story. I keep looking for updates.
Response from Elise_Wanderer (Author of The Spirit That Remembers)
Isn't that always the way? If we could all just take a leap of faith.... Or if they could just show as much emotional courage as they do physical guts, it'd all be so much easier! (But then the story would be over faster, so....)So glad you've gotten addicted! (I'm posting as fast as they can correct my commas....) Thank you so much for reviewing!

Before I begin, I must say how much I loved the poem you used to name this chapter. I've loved them all but this one really resonated with me for some reason.
I was again delighted to see Severus so in touch with his feelings. You can almost picture his fear and love in the air around them as he tends Hermione's wounds. I really enjoyed those scenes.
Then, I wanted to knock him on the head when he began his "she will go back" discussion with himself. He really has a lot to learn about the woman he's fallen in love with, doesn't he? And it was nice to see him willing to use Magic again. He really needs to stuff those memories back into his head soon. Then, he can return to punishing himself with full knowledge of everything he's done (as if Hermione would let him!). Please give us more soon.
Response from Elise_Wanderer (Author of The Spirit That Remembers)
I'm so glad you're liking the poetry. I started all this with the verse that begins (and ends) the story, and I realized that there were pieces of the whole poem that would work with what I was going for. Then I started looking at the rest of her poetry, and it was as though she had written fragments with this story in mind...especially this chapter. I love the idea that he has a strange power!Great points all. Yes, he does have a lot to learn, but really where would he have learned it? Lucky for him he has just the right person there to teach him.And I laughed out loud at your idea that he'd use the return of his memories to go back to punishing himself! How very Severus!I'm posting as fast as the mods validate, so more is on the way. Thanks so much for reviewing so thoughtfully!

Nice job by Hermione here. She strikes yet another blow for intelligence over arrogance.I was really surprised to see the mystery man was just a random Death Eater. I have to believe it's Severus' reaction to events that will be most important here. I'm behind so I'm off to read the next chapter.
Response from Elise_Wanderer (Author of The Spirit That Remembers)
Yes, our girl can certainly take care of herself. And "intelligence over arrogance" is a very nice way to put it!I'm not quite sure I'd call Dolohov a random DE; he's maybe not the most prominent member of the evil gang, but he's certainly one who seems to have a grudge against Hermione, as well as Severus. I think the fact that he wasn't quite able to finish her off in the Department of Mysteries may have (in his mind, anyway) led to his being incarcerated for awhile (until Voldy got him and a lot of his fellows out again), and I see him as having something of a desire for revenge against her, especially when he realized she could also lead him to Severus. Kind of a two-for-the-price-of-one deal....Severus' reactions are going to be quite important, indeed. Thanks for taking the time to review!

Beautifully written chapter. Severus' emotions were so powerful-- and his use of magic to save her revealed his true feelings. I look forward to the next chapter, and (I am thinking!) their mutual healing through each other.
