Hermione Granger's world is upended when a letter from the Ministry of Magic forces her to be the one thing she couldn't have imagined in her most feverish nightmares: the wife of her dreaded Potion's master.
~~ My little attempt at the WIKTT Marriage Law Challenge ~~ Lascivious rating is for the hot monkey sex to come in later chapters.

A 30-something aspiring romance novelist shamelessly (and obsessively) devoted to Harry Potter and many other geeky fandoms. I ship mostly Hermione/Snape and Harry/Hermione, but have been known to dabble in others.
Reviews for Tying Knots
Well, I kind of figured that would happen when her father referred to himself as the love of her life. He certainly was not going to like being replaced.
surprising ending. different then most meet the parents scenarios
oh. my. god.
what drama. well done.
Well... that went well... rather, it could have been worse... Oh my!
I don't know what surprised me more: when Hermione's father punched Severus in the nose, or when Severus pulled his wand and bound Eliott's hands. Either way, I can sympathize with both mother and daughter at the mens' fisticuffs and shouted threats.
Severus could truly be a rude man when he wants to be, but I think it was a gambit to see how much Hermione would put up with before she put him in his place. And she did! Good for Hermione!
Severus surprised his fiancée when he made his declaration to her father that she is a "bright, intelligent, capable witch who is most likely the strongest of any to pass through Hogwarts in decades... And no doubt, you would cut off the offspring that will inevitably come from this union? ... And you would cut off your grandchildren without a second thought. You sicken me.” Good for Severus!
I'm glad that Hermione stood her ground and told her parents that they really had no say in the matter of her coming marriage. When Severus brushed her breast with his fingers and kissed the living daylights out of her, I had to laugh. So like a man to stake his claim! i loved it!
This entire chapter was total fun, and I can't wait to see where you will take our hero and heroine in coming chapters. GOOD FOR YOU!

Men can be such prats - both of them!
Wow -- what a chapter! I am surprised that her father was so vehemently against her marriage to Snape. I hope her mother will convince him to come around. Many things are said in haste and anger that are regretted later. Can't wait for your next update!
Well, that could have been worse. I mean, Severus COULD have actually removed Mr. Granger's limbs.
Wow. Lots of tension in thaht chapter. I like how he is starting to tease her a little. :)
Eeeep evil cliffie!!!
GAH!!!!!!! How can you leave it there?! Please update ASAP! I love this story! You write Harry's unrequited love for Hermione convincingly and Ginny's reasonable anger towards Hermione. Fabulous plotting!
Hermione's in her own personal hell and it just keeps on coming. Oh, well, it will get better, I hope.
Isn't it amazing how wrongly we can interpret someone's intentions based on their actions? Snape seems so uncaring and cold. Hmmm...
I'm so glad you're working on this story, it's been one of my favorites for a long time. Thank you so much.
This is great.
Lovely! I can not wait for the next chapter!!!
Ginny can really pitch a fit when she has her feelings hurt, and I can understand that she would feel very sad and hurt that Hermione would have accepted a proposal of marriage so soon after Ron's death. But like Harry said, she could do nothing else given the circumstances.
Severus is, I suppose, being as gallant as the situation will permit him to be, but I really had to laugh with his stipulations concerning the wedding plans he was willing to go along with.
I can't wait to see what you have in store for us in the next chapter!

“Oh, for heaven’s sake, Granger, just sign the damned thing!”
You had to make me laugh, didn't you?
This chapter had a good baker's dozen of competing emotions running throughout:
• Harry kissing Hermione,
• Snape catching them,
• Dumbledore introducing the subject of Hermione's need to wed,
• Severus' offer of marriage,
• Harry making to attack him...
Woman, you have one of the most fertile imaginations! I love this story, even the sad parts. Congratulations on your "Validated Author status!" Way to go!

This is on of the most gut-wrenching chapters I've ever read, and it's so well written! I could follow everything that happened. I must say that the device of having Hermione and Severus watch themselves as memories and as their real-life selves was brilliant. I can see how difficult this must have been to write! Well done.
It took me a couple of times reading to finally understand what Severus was telling Ron when he said, “I pity you, Weasley. Do you understand? I pity you.” When the penny finally dropped, I realized what a merciful thing it was to tell the young man.
At the beginning of the chapter when Snape "trudged away from the now-quiet tree," I didn't understand the significance of the "now-quite tree." It wasn't until the final paragraph that I knew.
I am so glad that Hermione stayed in the memory to see the tenderness and concern with which Severus tended to Ron's body and the quiet burial he gave him.
Wonderfully written chapter! You are a master with the written word! Thank you for such a great story!

“Do you have any idea what you’ve just done, Weasley? Something I could have saved her from … and you, I might add.”
No one in the room seemed to have heard what Severus said! He could have saved Hermione and Ron!
OMG! What is going to happen to them? Will they really get married? Will Ron be killed? Good Lord! What have they done? Severus behaved and sounded like he could have chewed nails!
This cannot be good! But the chapter is Very Good!

The situation gets stickier as each day passes. So many deaths in one month! And only one from Slytherin House... I wonder who it was...
I can't believe Harry told Hermione that he wished he could have petitioned for her. I did not see that coming!
I like that Tonks will be the DADA professor. It will be interesting having her at Hogwarts during the school year. I'm hoping that means Remus will be there, too, at least some of the time.
But the biggest thing I'm wondering about is what was it that Remus was going to say to Hermione when she asked him, “Has Dumbledore thought of anything better for us to do about my proposals?”
I'm off to read the next chapter!!!
Beth
What in the world is going to happen to Ron? Bellatrix is a mean one!
Hermione is really in a fix... Tonks is out cold, Ron has been taken by Death Eaters, Lucius is looking forward to partaking of his son's wife (OMG!), and Severus is going to be livid!
Plus, Harry has to find a wife. A lot happened in this chapter! Well done!

When Hermione merely shuffled her bare feet against the stone instead of giving a direct answer, he nearly shouted, distinctly insulted, “Good Lord, Granger, how old do you think I am?"
best. bit. ever.
You know, Ginny had every right to be angry, but it isn't like Hermione was just waiting for Ron to die so she could nab Snape.
congrats on the validated status! I am enjoying so far how your take on the marriage law affects everyone within this age group, rather than restricting it to one gender or one blood status. Keep up the good work!
At least you won't hate it... heehee. Good luck with that!
keep it up Lady - you are moving them along really well and I can't wait to see where we are going! THanks for sharing
What could go wrong, certainly did. Snape was right, they should have said something about the last resort from the beginning. But since when has anyone cared about making things easier for him, hmmm. Love this story, can't wait for the next chapter.
