Wonder what other skills she has that she is not letting on about?
Response from Melenka (Author of Gauntlet)
She's a great accountant, but I don't think that was the sort of skills she meant. ;)

In some ways he is just as naive as she is.

He isn't terribly wise about women, is he? Poor Nicky, left with the job of trying to bring him up to speed when he failed so badly at it the last time she made the attempt. Of course, her motivations that time might not have been the best...

So many negotiations. So many secrets.

Secrecy and deals define their world, which makes it a very tricky place to live.

Nothing like a bit of UST!

It's kind of fun to watch them get under each other's skin, isn't it?

well she has to sleep with him if she stays there, or those that are watching may get suspicious, and they have their ways of finding out.
Response from Melenka (Author of Gauntlet)
Heh. She has to because he says so, too. Luckily, he's a better guy than he appears to be. In some areas, anyway.

She definitely needs to learn to fight dirty with the people she is after.
Response from Melenka (Author of Gauntlet)
You're right about that. They're rather nasty pieces of work.

She really is ambivalent towards him.
Response from Melenka (Author of Gauntlet)
Wouldn't you be? He pretty much has her life in his hands. That can't be comfortable.

Now she doesn't really want to leave!
Response from Melenka (Author of Gauntlet)
Well, he feeds her, teaches her and she's attracted to him. The fact that he's very smart and very dangerous makes him interesting. Yeah, she's a little twisted herself. Freud would have a holiday.

So, the hard man has a heart, deep inside.
Response from Melenka (Author of Gauntlet)
He does. He just keeps it locked down most of the time. Katya is the exception to almost eveyr rule he has.

That was clever. I thought he was ringing a man about Deira's training until the last minute. Then I thought, oh no, he is gay! because I didn't read the sentence properly where it referred to "her voice." LOL
Response from Melenka (Author of Gauntlet)
Thanks! That was what I was going for, so it's good to know it worked. :) He is definitely not gay....

This is fascinating, Melenka. Who is this guy?
Response from Melenka (Author of Gauntlet)
Glad it intrigues you. Keep reading and you learn all sorts of stuff about him. But not everything. He won't ever give up all the goods.

Just now getting around to reading this and I have to say the first chapter is excellent. You've given just enough to make me care about the character and anxiously anticipate what happens next. I feel like you've provided a great deal of information in a very minimalist style (not bogging down the chapter with backstory) while still dropping enough clues to create plenty of questions in my mind. Excellent work... I'm very impressed!
Response from Melenka (Author of Gauntlet)
Thank you! I really appreciate you reading. It was started as a challenge to myself, mostly to see if I could write a book-length story. I hope you continue to enjoy it.

this is the first time i am reading your work, and i think the day i can start to write like this i will be a very happy person.
Response from Melenka (Author of Gauntlet)
Oh, my! What a lovely compliment. Thank you very much. I hope you continue to enjoy the story. :)
beautiful story i rarely read original fiction, but this story has caught my attention right away.

geez. please tell me the next chapter is already in queue! poor deira, feeling all the guilt for what happened to sticks. even though it was his choice to be there, of course, that wouldn't make a person feel any better about it.
Response from Melenka (Author of Gauntlet)
She loves the old coot, not least because he agreed to help her when no one else would.

i don't want Sticks to die Gage didn't get his mark i wonder how Nicky is going to take that i probably wrong but here is what i think:the mark is actually the one who set all of this up to have his people around him taken out because he didn't trust them anymore he also has something not sure yet over Nicky and he knew she could get the right people to do his dirty work I'm wrong right?
Response from Melenka (Author of Gauntlet)
Yes, you're wrong. Nicky wouldn't have anything to do with Jack Cavuto. No civilized person would. Don't worry. The story is finished. The only wait is for validation. I'll upload the next chapter today. :)

Response from Melenka (Author of Gauntlet)
Yeah, he does. So it would be a shame if he died at her "graduation."

I love how they get along now but I'm afraid for them because I don't know if you like happy endings well as happy as these type of story can be anyway I mean they could be good together or apart they are both strong individuals.
Response from Melenka (Author of Gauntlet)
I suppose if you look at it like a romance from hell, then a happy(ish) ending is in the cards, but that could be anything from deciding to stay together to simply agreeing to not kill each other.

called him on that one lol I have a bad feeling all the sudden not sure why yet
Response from Melenka (Author of Gauntlet)
I don't know. Maybe it's because they're about to blow up a building and shoot people who will probably shoot back? LOL

Nicky is in something deep, that is really bad, that guy on the phone with her is up to no good for Gage and Deira and probably, no most definitely Nicky. I love a fic that keeps me guessing
Response from Melenka (Author of Gauntlet)
Nicky is always into something, though this goes deeper than her usual information trafficking. Glad the plot twists are working for you!

yes he finally admits it good oh yeah she's good and has his number mentioning his neice had him going hehe
Response from Melenka (Author of Gauntlet)
Yep, and telling him something he didn't know about Katya was her way of leveling the field a bit. He's known for awhile that he would keep some string attached to her. The trick is to not let her know that.

You are a genius but what I want to know is where did you get the ideal for this fic was it research or personal or would you have to kill me if you answered lol maybe I don't want to know after all
Response from Melenka (Author of Gauntlet)
Honestly, it started as a way to direct anger about things over which I had no control. There was a lot of research involved once I realized that I needed to understand the technology. My husband is responsible for the accuracy of hand to hand combat. The explosives details come courtesy of the Internet, which might scare me if I thought about it a bit more.

he should have probably checked his neice's place for bugs himself the bug guy finishing early sounded fishy to meand as for Viktor he had the story wrong she isn't dead and she only killed one so the rest could be a little tweetcked too. I think I could be wrong Awesome work Melenka
Response from Melenka (Author of Gauntlet)
As long as no one knows who he really is, Katya is safe. Besides, I rather think she could take care of herself, if it came to it. Viktor is often wrong, though he has the basic facts right in this case, just the wrong interpretation of them.
