After rescuing Severus from what should have been a fatal snakebite, Hermione throws herself headlong into managing his care and finishing her schooling. As she discovers, however, helping another person heal is infinitely easier than healing herself. As the Golden Trio—and Severus—move toward the one-year mark of post-Voldemort life, it becomes painfully obvious that there is no way to go back to normal. New feelings are confusing to all involved, and lives careen from carefully planned paths.

I came to the Potterverse late, devouring all 7 books over the summer when DH came out. I came to fanfic even later, and have been gluttonously consuming HG/SS love stories since December. I really enjoy the slow-building, tension-ridden love stories that the pairing seems to inspire. The quality of writing I come across in the fanfic world never ceases to astound me, and I am well and truly addicted!

I'm starting to think that this story isn't a work in progress anymore but an abandoned one which is very sad :( I was really interested in seeing where this was going, I really hope I'm wrong about the status of the progress of this story...LoveBree

I apologize for the long lapse in posts, and for not responding sooner. RL has been intense until recently, and it spared me neither time nor brain power enough to work on this story to my satisfaction. I want to thank you for reading, and for taking the time to leave such a thoughtful and gratifying review and rating. I hope you will still enjoy the story. XO,Emmeline

Yay, I'm excited! lol, I understand, I very much look forward to seeing how the story pans out! :)
I am so glad that this Maire is around. She helps Hermione to hold her head up against this nagging old bat. who doesn't know what he wants. ha!and the events in the office of Kingsley!!YES YES YES!!!That was soooo delightfull!!and even Caliope gets her share of empathy from you. you are to kind. But why not. So it was veritaserum and threat. that is tough. but Rita Skeeter shrinks back from nothing, no, she rather shrinks back to a beetle. You must have studied the methods of yellow press editors and their journalists very intensely. That is exactly what one expects of this filth. ah, what a glorious revenge and a victory no end!I was drinking this chapter like a thirsty wanderer in the desert. upbeat! Hermione can learn to smile and see the sun shining. Well done.thank you for the chapter!salva

Thank you, Salva, for another delightful review! Yes, Calliope gets some sympathy too, despite the fact that, overall, I agree with Hermione; she is an ignorant old cow. Still, Rita's forte is exploiting the foibles and weaknesses of others, no? So very glad you enjoyed the chapter. it was a blast to write! Severus gets out of hospital soon, so stay tuned! Thanks again! I love your reviews!

I just looove this story. All of the main characters feel so real and complicated--I go back and forth between feeling angry with them and sympathizing with them completely. Your portrayal of Snape is really different than anything I've read. He's so lovable and vulnerable and soft on the one hand--but still an angry, frustrating, manipulative, unfair jerk like the Snape I know so well! I adore the way Hermione is fleshed out and conflicted here, and while I am totally rooting for her to break things off with Ron, I also feel incredibly sympathetic toward Ron! It's all just so good and complex. I absolutely can't wait for more.
Response from emmeline33 (Author of Anthem)
Thanks so much! It thrills me to know that you can both sympathize and be angry with the characters, that you find them complex! That is everything I have hoped for as I've written. I am going to print your review and frame it, I swear! I really appreciate you reading and leaving such a delightful review.

Finally, Rita is being brought to justice for all the trouble she's caused over the years. I didn't think The Daily Propet knew about it, but then again, the publisher seemed rather oily. I can't wait to see what happens when Hermione gets back to Severus.

I always imagined that it was something the Prophet chose not to know but kind of suspected. And yes! Thanks so much for your remark about Smythwyck! In some ways, I think he deserves greater punishment: he certainly profited greatly from her illegal antics. More Hermione/Severus coming up soon!

I felt so sorry for both Ron and Hermione! This is so realistic...I totally love it!

This little scene pulled at my heartstrings:"After many long moments, he closed his fingers over hers. Hands entwined, they sat wordlessly."I enjoyed the fan mail Severus received (and the spelling mistakes were hilarious!)Bravo!
Response from emmeline33 (Author of Anthem)
Thank you! I thought they needed a moment of sweetness in the midst of the agony. Glad you enjoyed the fan mail, lol! I really enjoyed writing it, especially the misspelled ones! It's so lovely of you to read and review. Thank you!

What a beautiful and touching chapter! This line made me want to crawl inside my computer and go give Severus a hug:"Severus pondered the word, flinching inwardly. It came to him pleasantly, but left him queasy, a sweet beginning with a bitter aftertaste. Friend."

interesting to hear, that St. Mungos Board is as rotten as the muggle-hospital-ones.can't he take Maire? and he doesn't know of Spinners End.and Hermione? who does? let's see: the malfoys would know. macGonagall. do these two ever get to the Idea of asking anybody for help? let me guess: No!He should call for me!!!!!!I happen to be a nurse, driving around with my car all day, visiting my patients and care for them.I could use one more!!But, I'm afraid, he would scare me away if not with his temper or his ugly-ducklin-shape then with his magic tricks, because his magical ability would undoubtedly return (they have to, understood!), or because he would start to drabble of strangest events and people. waaahhhe would never make a good muggle. he can forget about that right away. And I don't know if I wanted to be with him, when he gradually regains his self. no, I don't envy Hermione. she has a difficult job before her.you see, I already state that she will find a way of taking care of him. Hm. You make it very interesting. And it has a funny side .what vivid dreams he has, oh my. yes, he realises, that he has to know what happened to Dumbledore. But what will he do when he finds out that he is a murderer.scarysalva

I am always thrilled to find your reviews--they bring me so much joy. You always manage to ferret out the core issues! Never fear, Hermione's strong points are stubborness and research, and she is going to put them to use on Severus' behalf. She probably wouldn't ask the Malfoys, given her last experiences with them in DH. No, he wouldn't make a very good Muggle at all! I believe he is trying to prod at Maire and Hermione with all that nonsense. :)You raise a very valid point about Dumbledore; he will have to deal with that, as you have so accurately pointed out! We'll take care of him, Salva, never fear! Wish you could help him out with your healing skills; he could use some more caring! Thanks! You've made my day as always!

Author's Response: *laughs* It did seem to fit!
Wonderfully written, as always!! I really, really enjoyed the dream sequence, it was beautifully written with such powerful imagery. I wonder who will step up to be his nurse? Because I do hope *someone* (ahem, Hermione!) steps up to make sure he isn't left on the JT Ward.I can't wait for more!
Response from emmeline33 (Author of Anthem)
You are such a doll! I am extremely happy that you enjoyed the dream sequence and its imagery. As to nurses... hm, we shall see. I expect there's a horde of fangirls raising their hands and bouncing in their seats for the job! We'll do right by our Potions Master somehow! ;)

"In fact, she had come to see his entire life up to now as a sort of protracted suicide." That was such a brilliant and moving line, I read it over and over again with tears in my eyes.

Ah, the aftermath of war. How like Hermione to immerse herself in the care of another while avoiding her own healing. I wonder what she is hiding from, within herself, or in the world outside. I like the world that you are building here...
Response from emmeline33 (Author of Anthem)
*grins* I'm building a world! Thanks so much, Mach
Response from emmeline33 (Author of Anthem)
, wow! Hermione endured things during the war that we didn't see in DH, and she isn't ready to confront them just yet. You'll get clues throughout. Thanks for reading and reviewing! It makes my day!
This is a compelling beginning. So powerfully written! *rushes off to read next chapter
Response from emmeline33 (Author of Anthem)
Wow, thanks, Mach

!
Don't worry for a minute about the R/H factor in this chapter--to deal properly with the aftermath of the war and canon as we knew it, it NEEDS to be discussed and explored--most ss/hg authors don't spend enough time dissolving the bond that was born out of youth, true caring, best friendship and wartime. This was a truly moving chapter. I understood your Hermione perfectly all the way through, and I appreciate that you took so much time to explore this part of her fully. I know those feelings, and you represented them with chilling and perfect accuracy.

Good chapter - all the letters and flowers - I can see that happening if he had lived. Good job on this chapter -cannot wait for the next one
Response from emmeline33 (Author of Anthem)
Thanks! That scenario was actually the first thing I came up with when I began to imagine this story. I am so glad you liked this chapter. I hope you enjoy the future installments, too!
I'm so glad, so very, very glad, that you've resume writing! Thank you! This is just about the first story I read on TPP, and I've been longing for an update. More, please!
Response from emmeline33 (Author of Anthem)
Your kind words have brought me a smile on a snowy day! Thank you for your thoughtful review and for your kind rating. I hope you will enjoy the rest of the story. I cant' tell you how much your words have meant to me!
Poor Snape, lost and helpless, yet he resists the only sucoour offered.
Response from emmeline33 (Author of Anthem)
How very like him, the frustrating man!
Good to Rita getting what she deserves. :)
Response from emmeline33 (Author of Anthem)
Therein lies the joy of fanfic, yes? We can resurrect Snape, we can torture Skeeter, we can separate Ron and Hermione and right all wrongs. Thanks for reviewing! :)
awww, poor Snape. I hope Hermione can help him. How sad.
Response from emmeline33 (Author of Anthem)
Thank you so much for your review and rating! She will do her best, of course...

Oh, yay for resurrecting old fics! :D Great chapter. It's not easy coming back to something after so long, is it? I'm still struggling to find my feet in Sky is Falling!
Author's Response: Hey, there! Thanks so much for reading and reviewing. You are right, it's not easy to get back to something after a long spell away. I am struggling to catch my rhythm again! You needn't worry at all about Sky is Falling. I've enjoyed every update enormously! Consider your feet found.
Thank you again for reading and leaving such a lovely review; the next chapters should be easier, I'm thinking. I'm eager to "get out" of St. Mungo's!
