After rescuing Severus from what should have been a fatal snakebite, Hermione throws herself headlong into managing his care and finishing her schooling. As she discovers, however, helping another person heal is infinitely easier than healing herself. As the Golden Trio—and Severus—move toward the one-year mark of post-Voldemort life, it becomes painfully obvious that there is no way to go back to normal. New feelings are confusing to all involved, and lives careen from carefully planned paths.

I came to the Potterverse late, devouring all 7 books over the summer when DH came out. I came to fanfic even later, and have been gluttonously consuming HG/SS love stories since December. I really enjoy the slow-building, tension-ridden love stories that the pairing seems to inspire. The quality of writing I come across in the fanfic world never ceases to astound me, and I am well and truly addicted!
Reviews for Anthem
You are doing very well with your descriptions and general story flow. The pain and angst Hermione is feeling is apparent in every sentence. It is obvious she is having issues with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.

Thanks so much for your review,
Response from emmeline33 (Author of Anthem)
! PTSD--precisely. Thanks for getting that!
"You weren't here when i woke up!" if that is not snape then what is. *lol*
but wait,
he would never have cared if there was anyone to care for him. so there is a change in him.
destroying love-letters, Miss Granger?? how dare you!
love your fic!
Response from emmeline33 (Author of Anthem)
Thanks so much for reviewing, Salvamea! Hermione destroyed his love letters because she thought he'd assume them to be jokes made to ridicule him... well, that's what she says, anyway... lol. You'll see more of snarky Snape very soon! Glad you like the story!
Oh no, not Ron! I was hoping that he was the one who went to the press. Then we could just ignore him.
Response from emmeline33 (Author of Anthem)
Sorry, Charmed Force! LoL. Ron's impossible to ignore in this fic, but, well, only for a little while.
I hate Calliope more and more...I may be mistaken, but I think she had something to do with the article about our two heroes. There is just one thing I don't understand: when will Hermione dump Ron? he is sooo corny....well...write some more, your work is fantastic!!!^_^
Response from emmeline33 (Author of Anthem)
Wow, thanks! Calliope is fun to hate. As for Ron... well, he's trying, and so is Hermione, but... you'll see! I am glad you like the story, and I hope you'll enjoy the coming chapters.
I hope that in the time that Professor Snape in unable to communicate at his normal level Hermione will be able to beuild a bridge so he will begin to trust her. I know that once he regains his memories he will have a difficult time so, it is important that she start the process before hand. Actions speak louder than words and our memories can be faulty. Well done. Irish
Response from emmeline33 (Author of Anthem)
Thanks, Irish! I am so pleased you have continued with the story. Hermione's already reached him on an unprecedented emotional level, and I believe he'll be quite loathe to give that up... equal to the loathing he has for vulnerability. It will heighten his mental conflict, but also his humanity. Thanks so much for your nice review!
Wow. An excellent chapter. I love the meta-moments of Severus's mail. As usual, your characterization is dead on. Can't wait for more!
Response from emmeline33 (Author of Anthem)
Thanks,
Response from emmeline33 (Author of Anthem)
! I was a little tense about the mail scene. I did not want to inject too much levity, but it does become something of a hinge on which later plot development depends. The fact that you enjoyed it makes me feel loads better. I sincerely appreciate your review!
Uh-oh, Ron is complicating matters. ;-)
Another great chapter. I don't think I'm going to envy Severus much once he gets well enough to become aware of the mail and the news articles and the whole public scrutiny in general.
Response from emmeline33 (Author of Anthem)
Ron does have a tendency to complicate matters, doesn't he? :) I am glad you like this chapter. There will be some important moments for Severus later on that have to do with the mail. It means a lot to me that you have continued to read and review. Thanks,
Response from emmeline33 (Author of Anthem)
!
This is a good story!I worry about Hermione though as Severus gets better.Shr will have to face her fears, hopefully Severus will be there to comfrent her. Can't wait for next update!
Response from emmeline33 (Author of Anthem)
Thanks, Purple Dragon! I am so excited that you like the story. Severus will be there for Hermione in ways he cannot even conceive of right now. Hope you like the future chapters, as well!
After many long moments, he closed his fingers over hers. Hands entwined, they sat wordlessly. That was beautiful and I loved it! more! more!
Livvy
Response from emmeline33 (Author of Anthem)
Shucks, Livvy, thanks! i'm so happy that you liked that moment. I am very grateful for your continued reading, and for your very sweet review. PS, when are you posting your next story? :)
Response from livvy6 (Reviewer)
It's #6 in the queue! Did I tell you I'm doing my first HG/SS?

Another excellent chapter! How awful for him to be receiving such nasty hate mail. And singing stargazers LOLOL! I'm looking forward to reading more! (and I read your response to my earlier review about Calliope -- YAY!)
Response from emmeline33 (Author of Anthem)
Thanks, Amsev! I just couldn't resist the singing stargazers, lol! I'm still planning Calliope's comeuppance, so if you have any ideas... I think I'm going to toy with her for a bit, first! I appreciate your review!
Great chapter! I really enjoyed seeing things from Severus's (rather confused) point of view. The poor man has a lot of re-adjusting to do.
At least he has Hermione and Maire, who seems wonderfully professional and kind - unlike Calliope, who is quite worrying me now!
Response from emmeline33 (Author of Anthem)
Thanks,
Response from emmeline33 (Author of Anthem)
! I am glad you enjoyed Severus' POV. Keep your eye on Calliope; you are quite right to be worried, though I won't let her get away with too much. I appreciate your review!
I continue to be mesmerized by your sure prose and excellent characterization...your devotion to realism...just lovely work.
Response from emmeline33 (Author of Anthem)
I am absolutely staggered by your praise, since those are precisely the elements of your writing that I appreciate. I can't tell you how much your review means to me. Thank you so much!
Good chapter - he is awake but does not remember anything. When he remembers, I feel for Hermione - he might just say something stupid and push her away. Cannot wait to see what happens
Response from emmeline33 (Author of Anthem)
You obviously know Severus! He will remember little by little, and yes, there is angst a-plenty. But Hermione is stubborn, and there will be sweetness along the way. Thank you so much for reading and reviewing,
Response from emmeline33 (Author of Anthem)
! I hope you continue to enjoy the story.
Great chapter. I'm glad Sev's awake but he sure has a lot of stuff to figure out.
Response from emmeline33 (Author of Anthem)
You are quite right, he does have a lot to figure out! I am very happy, barbiedo11, that you have continued to read, and I appreciate your reviews. I hope you like the subsequent chapters as well. Thanks so much!
great story. Looking forward to the next chapter.
Response from emmeline33 (Author of Anthem)

Response from emmeline33 (Author of Anthem)
! The next chapter is coming up quickly, and I hope you will enjoy it, as well. I am very grateful for your review!
Oh, that Calliope bothers me. Thinking she knows what is "really" going on between Severus and Hermione. Horrid bedside manner.
Response from emmeline33 (Author of Anthem)
Yeah, Calliope bothers me, too. In a way, she is revenge upon every bossy, meddlesome, baby-talking medical professional that has ever irked me ("go tinkle-tinkle in the cuppie!" ugh!). Unfortunately, I doubt the objects of my vengeance are reading HG/SS fanfic... but I digress.
Thanks so much for reading and reviewing. It means a lot!
I can't wait till you write more of this story:) It's gripping:) You've portrayed Severus very well-I can imagine that it would feel like this to him, and Hermione is very true to character, as well. I LOVE Maire:) What a GREAT character:)
Warm regards,
Fizzabella
Response from emmeline33 (Author of Anthem)
Thank you so much, Fizzabella! It's a wonderful day when someone finds my story gripping and my characters true. And I'm thrilled that you love Maire. I felt that Hermione and Severus both needed some guidance and comfort and Maire materialized. I am honored that you have taken the time to read and to write such a nice review.
Many Thanks,
Emmeline
That was just heart-wrenching to see him looking at Hermione thinking she was Lily, his friend. I wanted to cry. Hopefully, Calliope hasn't ruined the good feelings Snape has had towards Hermione. But alas, he would not be Snape without the snarkiness.
Can't wait for more!
Livvy
Response from emmeline33 (Author of Anthem)
Thanks so much for reading and reviewing, Livvy! Calliope has definitely thrown a wrench into things, but in the post-war fallout, he and Hermione share a strong bond. We shall see how it unfolds for the two of them! I am so glad you've continued to read, especially since I enjoy your stories so much.
I was delighted to see this update and (being the greedy reader I am) hope more are on the way.
Response from emmeline33 (Author of Anthem)
Miss Madwyn, I am unbelievably flattered by your kind words, as I greedily await every update to your inimitable story! Thank you, thank you for continuing to read, and I sincerely appreciate your review!
I am glad to see that Severus is starting to recover, but I could smack that Calliope what a cow. Lambykins give me a break. I do not think she likes the man that Severus was. I hope that her attitude and comments do not complicate things for our pair. Well done Irish
Response from emmeline33 (Author of Anthem)
Yes, Calliope does indeed fall under the heading of "cow"!
She's a gossip, and someone who enjoys her status as "Healer" so much that she fails to see some of her patients as humans—much less as adults. She has indeed set some things in motion that will haunt our happy couple, but she will get her just desserts. I believe in justice! :)
Thanks so much for continuing to read and for your very kind review. It means a lot!
His green eyes had filled with tears, not only for Snape, Ron and Hermione had understood, but for all of his lost father figures. Though he had defeated Voldemort, he had lost Sirius, Remus, Fred, and Dumbledore—and Snape, the most unlikely father of all.
Wow. I love that line.
Response from emmeline33 (Author of Anthem)
Golly, thanks! I am so happy that you appreciated that line. That theme of lost fathers just stayed with me after I read DH and wouldn't leave me alone. Thanks so much for reading, and also for your very thoughtful review!
Excellent new chapter! Calliope needs a whap upside the head. Snape, lambiekins? ::giggle::
Very nicely done.
Response from emmeline33 (Author of Anthem)
*blushes* Aw, thanks so much,
Response from emmeline33 (Author of Anthem)
! I agree, Calliope does need a whap upside the head for so much as thinking of our redoubtable Potions master as a "lambykins". I am planning some revenge for her... *smiles nastily and cackles with glee*
I found my way here through angelmisha's rec on her new LJ community, and I am definitely not sorry. Hermione's struggle with herself and with the "return to normalcy" after the war touch me deeply. Hermione works so hard to make sure everything runs smoothly, and I've never thought she was merely swotting. I look forward to reading further chapters!
Response from emmeline33 (Author of Anthem)
I am so glad you found my story and took the time to review! I am glad you are appreciating Hermione's struggles. I've always envisioned her dealing with enormous stress by trying to control all variables and make sure everyone's OK. I hope you like the future chapters as well. Thanks so much for your kind review!

A lovely and fascinating beginning. You already hooked me up with it!
Author's Response: Thank you! It is very encouraging to know that you found it fascinating. Your thoughtful review is definitely appreciated.

It's good to see that Severus wasn't miracolously cured after some potion and obviously has some healing yet to do - that's so much more realistic. You manage very well to show the different layers of consciousness he experiences.
Author's Response: I thank you from the bottom of my heart for leaving this review. I am glad that Severus' struggles came across as realistic for you, and most of all that his complex psychological state spoke to you. I apologize for not responding sooner. I am truly grateful for your readership and kind words. I hope you will continue to enjoy the story as it progresses.
