Am so glad you stuck to your original plan of SS/OFC and didn't let more fervent SS/HGs steer you away from it! I think she's a great bitch! ;-)
Author's Response: Indeed. :) There would be very little plot, otherwise! I'm glad you love to hate Miranda!
what an interesting first chapter! You've supplied the backstory seemlessly and left me eagerly typing this review, wanting to hurry on to the next chapter. Right now! so I will. Thanks for this story.
Response from julymorning (Author of By Flash and Thunder Fire)
Thank you so much! I hope you continue to enjoy the story.

Oooo, that Miranda is a sneaky, dirty, horrible bitch! That's rape, that is, what she did to him, shooting him with a curse that makes him have sex with her. Snape is far too generous and forgiving, letting her get away with something like that. I would have gone all Death Eater on her sorry ass. And what the fuck was he thinking, having sex with her AGAIN after what she did? He is such a fucking idiot.
I suppose, though, that he hasn't had much attention in that realm, and he would be somewhat flattered that she would want him so much as to curse him (I guess it's sweet in a sick, twisted, horrid sort of way).
I certainly hope this doesn't ruin his chances with Hermione.
At least this incident has completely opened Snape's eyes as to what a ruthlessly determined person Miranda is, willing to do whatever it takes to get what she wants. GAH! I want to strangle her and feed her to Fluffy.
P.S. Sorry about the rant. I really am enjoying this story, don't get me wrong.
Response from julymorning (Author of By Flash and Thunder Fire)
Don't get me wrong - I am really enjoying your rants! I read a lot of the SS/HG stuff at the PP and I think people tend to forget that, in canon at least, Snape is both a jerk and a doofus a large part of the time. That's true in my fic too, but at least we know he's going to be with Hermione by the end of it!Fluffy deserves no such meal as Miranda - that's cruelty to animals, that is...
Response from Sporky1126 (Reviewer)
We do tend to forget about Doofus!Snape (although Jerk!Snape seems common enough). He might also be a bit emotionally stunted, so he doesn't know how to handle the sexual predator that is Miranda (assuming this Snape isn't SexGod!Snape :P).
You aren't going to call the Animal Rights people out on me, are you? I'M SORRY, FLUFFY! *scratches Fluffy's heads*
Response from julymorning (Author of By Flash and Thunder Fire)
I quite like the idea of RealPerson!Snape. :) Naturally he has no idea how to handle a sexual predator of M's type, given that he has spent the better part of his life perpetually surrounded by teenagers.
I won't call the animal rights people as long as you return our cat; we miss him, even if he was a spy...
Response from Sporky1126 (Reviewer)
I'll redeploy Agent--er, give you back your cat, as soon as you post the next chapter! *incentive*

Can't wait to read the next chapter! I really enjoy this story

Loved the latest chapter - the writing was extremely good and I throughly enjoyed reading it - you have an excellent way with words - cannot wait to see what all is going to happen in this fic
Response from julymorning (Author of By Flash and Thunder Fire)
Thank you so much! Next chapter going in the queue today...
I'm glad that Hermione finally told Miranda off. And I wonder what she saw when she looked at Severus!
Response from julymorning (Author of By Flash and Thunder Fire)
Thanks for the review! I can't really give you a more thorough response, unfortunately, without giving things away! Let's just say that Hermione is, as always, uncommonly perceptive - that's why she doesn't like the spell very much.
"he was making violent love to Miranda Silva, their naked forms grinding together on his hearthrug, and it was both wonderful and fearsome all at once."*cringe*Girl, in my opinion you are breaking the number one rule of SS/HG romance by making Snape attracted to that woman. I can read SS/OFC anytime, but not when Hermione is around. It's bad enough we now have to deal with the ghost of Lily, but Hermione being threatened by a gorgeous dark-haired Ravenclaw genius is more than a little frustrating. Sorry I'm too involved in the ship.I know it's kind of a double-standard but whatever. Good luck anyway, you write very well!
Response from julymorning (Author of By Flash and Thunder Fire)
Thanks! I'm sorry the story's not quite to your taste.
Thats just wickedly cool! You have a way with words, though I still think Miranda is a bwitch! Grow a thicker skin indeed. There is no way to say that without it being an insult. And I suppose it shows to go ya, Flitwick was happy and personable so were his students, though sometimes I wonder about Tonks and Luna. . .
Response from julymorning (Author of By Flash and Thunder Fire)
Thanks for the fantastic review! We are going to see pretty soon just how much influence teachers' personalities have over students - Hermione has only seen the tip of the iceberg!
This is a really compelling story -- I'm sorry there are just three chapters so far, because I could easily read it to the end in one sitting if it was already done.
Response from julymorning (Author of By Flash and Thunder Fire)
Wow, thank you! Everything is already done, at least in outline, so I will be adding frequently. Complete in eleven.
I, on the other hand, like this spell, a lot more than Miranda.
Response from julymorning (Author of By Flash and Thunder Fire)
*grin* Thank you!
'You looked like you were standing in a pool of sunlight...‘There were no more shadows surrounding you.’
Wow.
Response from julymorning (Author of By Flash and Thunder Fire)
I think this is seriously one of the awesomest reviews I've gotten...
This is quite interesting, and I really don't like Miranda, but I believe that is intentional.
Response from julymorning (Author of By Flash and Thunder Fire)
Thanks! Yes, it is intentional...
I'm still not sure how to take Miranda. At least Hermione is getting back to herself. And wow Severus thinks Hermione is perfection, now that is interesting. I wonder if he is going to do anything about it well once he figures it out all the way. lol
Response from julymorning (Author of By Flash and Thunder Fire)
He will do something, certainly but, poor guy, it's not going to work in quite the way he hopes.
What comes to mind from this chapter is "torn between two lovers" only instead of lovers its women.
Response from julymorning (Author of By Flash and Thunder Fire)
Lovers, women - eh. The distinction in this story is minute.
What an interesting woman this Miranda is. I can't wait to see what she is all about. And what is up with Draco giving away all his family things? Trying to give away the past or something. Great first chapter.
Response from julymorning (Author of By Flash and Thunder Fire)
Thank you so much! I hope Miranda lives up to your expectations. Draco has never struck me as a wasteful sort of guy; he is tired of all the Malfoy possessions gathering dust.
Wow, what an intense story. Well done. ~although I hate that Severus is still suffering because of that madman~ Will have to think positively and believe in the best.
Response from julymorning (Author of By Flash and Thunder Fire)
Thank you so much! Sorry it has taken me so long to respond to your review - I haven't been doing much in the fanfic world lately. ;-) I like to think positively and believe in the best too, and perhaps I shall give this Snape/Hermione a happy-ending sequel when one or two of my other projects are finished. :-D
Oh, I love how Hermione remains unchanged in his eyes. The fact that the hag Miranda had to be softened while Hermione remained just as she was shows where Severus is leaning. Yay!
Response from julymorning (Author of By Flash and Thunder Fire)
'The hag' - oh goodness... I didn't realise what a monster I was creating! Severus is leaning v. much toward Hermione, indeed, but things are not going to be a simple as he hopes. Miranda's going to throw a couple of serious spanners into his plans. Thank you so much for the review!
Great chapter. Have to say Miranda gives me the creeps though. Looking forward to more.
Response from julymorning (Author of By Flash and Thunder Fire)
Thanks for the review! The next bit is nearly done - just sending it off to the beta tonight.
It gets better and better! Thanks for another great chapter.
Response from julymorning (Author of By Flash and Thunder Fire)
Thank you, for another great review! I'm glad you're enjoying the story.
Miranda is a bitch that could give Narcissa a run for her money. And I bet she looks like Bellatrix before Azkhaban (sp?) oh well, I'm sure she'll help further the plot. BTW, is Draco. . . well, lets just say he's a bit womanish isn't he. Nicely done, looking forward to more.
Response from julymorning (Author of By Flash and Thunder Fire)
I would say that Miranda looks a lot less sensual than Bellatrix is supposed to have been. As for Draco - he is what we might call an Epicurean. Thanks for the review - the next chapter will be up soon!

This promises to be thrilling. Oh, and I love the bit about Latin vs. Spanish magic!
Response from julymorning (Author of By Flash and Thunder Fire)
Thank you so much! More Spanish magic coming up in the next chapter - we shall see whether Snape takes to it. I hope you keep reading!
Response from emmeline33 (Reviewer)
I can't wait! I have to admit having had a visceral response to Miranda's and Hermione's last exchange, having been a young teacher trying to maintain my peers' and students' respect (lol). Very, very real!

So, Severus is both attracted and weary of Miranda, though I can't help but wonder what her game with him is. Is she casting a sureptitious enchantment on him?
As for Hermione, her difficulties are understandable as a new teacher, but what Miranda did is despicable. I hope Hermione will find a spine soon.
Response from julymorning (Author of By Flash and Thunder Fire)
A surreptitious enchantment, eh? I think it's more subtle than that, don't you? A man doesn't have to be under a spell to be attracted to a beautiful, intelligent woman! Although, admittedly, she is a bit of a bitch. Snape wants Hermione to grow some backbone too, but we will soon see that when Hermione backs down from a confrontation, it is because strategy, not weakness. Thank you for the review - I hope you keep reading!

First of all, thank you so much for the update! You have a wonderful set of caracters here, though I freely admit to no liking Miranda:-) I don't have any real reason for misliking her of course (yet), other than Severus attraction to her. Though I know we are at the beginning of the story, lots of things to still happen, and that Severus actually haven't wronged Hermione in any way due to the fact that there is no Severus/Hermione pairing at the moment. I do ask you though, if you intend for Severus to have sex with Miranda at any point, please tone it down, I don't think I will like knowing any details. I admit, childlishly, to be very protective about Hermione and even though I know how backwards the idea is, I will feel that Severus is cheating if he first beds Miranda and then turns his attention to Hermione. I know there is no comittment between either of them, and that Severus is free to fancy whoever he wants, but if he does want Miranda, please give Hermione someone else. I don't want her to be seccond best and for her to sit around and wait for Severus to at some point decide to pursuit her instead. Just as I don't want a Severus so shallow that he thinks it is ok to bed one collegua and then jump into the next bed. I admit to be somewhat dissepointed in him for showing so much interest and attraction in a woman he thinks is married though, it somewhat tarnish my idea of Severus as a honourable man. I think that is a bit of what botters me the most, I think married people are off-limit and if Severus wants to be thought of as a man with integrity, he wouldn't be that attracted to married women. I am really, really mad at Minerva, how dare she change the detention Hermione has given a disrespectful student based on quiddish??? She could just as well written a poster in the Great Hall saying "you don't have to listen to Professor Granger, if she tries to punish you, just run to your head of house and they will put her in her rigth place." I hope you will sort that situation, preferably with Hermione standing up to Minerva on her own, while I think support from other the other teachers would and should be correct, Hermione obviously have to make sure that Minerva respects her as a teacher and no longer sees her as a student she can overrun! And, please, update again soon!!!!!
Response from julymorning (Author of By Flash and Thunder Fire)
Wow, thanks! I'm glad you're enjoying the story, despite not liking Miranda. I appreciate all of your input about Snape. Whatever his personal defects might be, he is certainly not shallow - but we must keep in mind that, first, married people do not suddenly become unattractive (however inappropriate it might be to act on an attraction to them), and second, it is possible to fancy two people at once, and for very different reasons. Poor Severus; he's going to get a heap of complications dumped on his head pretty soon.Yes, Miranda was very rude to Hermione, but let's not forget that Snape, too, can be both rude and unjust, as we have seen from his treatment of the trio. He had his reasons; Miranda might have hers, too.Do keep reading - I will definitely update again soon!
