Reviews for By Flash and Thunder Fire
No, Severus! Not that Miranda bint! Look at the lovely woman on your ooother side. You know, Hermione? There we go. Good boy.Anway, interesting beginning! I'm looking forward to how you make the SSHG relationship come about (with a sidetrip through Severus/Miranda, I assume? With maybe a bit of Draco/Hermione?)
Response from julymorning (Author of By Flash and Thunder Fire)
Thanks for the review! SSHG coming up, of course! Fear not for Severus, he will wise up soon. I've had requests for Draco/Hermione and Draco/Neville - clearly there's got to be some loving for Draco in there somewhere or he might get lonely...
Response from Sporky1126 (Reviewer)
lol.Well, we don't want to discriminate, you know. Draco might get jealous if everyone gets lovin' except him.
An interesting first chapter, I think I will like to read a bit more. you do have some heavy warnings on this fic though, making me think this will be rather dark. I must also admit that I am very HG/SS oriented, so the hint that Severus will in this fic be involved with Miranda is not to interesting for me. I know I am probably childish, but I don't like either of them involved with others in stories where they are among the main characters. I really like your Draco though, and Neville sounds interesting too, will you make this a Draco/Hermione pairing maybe? (Still don't like the idea with Severus and another woman:-)) I will probably look into this story from time to time to see how it goes, so keep writing.
Response from julymorning (Author of By Flash and Thunder Fire)
Thanks for your review! The heavy warnings on the fic are a little misleading - I don't write dark fics, nor do I enjoy reading them, but I wanted to cover all my bases. There will be plenty of Snape/Hermione, but like everybody else Snape will have to kiss a few frogs before he finds his princess. Please do keep reading!
I liked Snape's POV and the slow build up of tension with Miranda. Its strange how easily he capitulated though, I hadn't considered that type of behaviour of him before, but it seemed very natural in the story. Great twist at the end!
Response from julymorning (Author of By Flash and Thunder Fire)
Thank you very much! I hadn't seen many stories written from Snape's POV at the time, so I thought I'd give it a try. I'm so pleased you enjoyed it! :-D
this story is NOT complete! no resoltuion. easy way out, darn.
Rereading this great story off of my favorites list. It holds up well. I so love the possibilities ensconced in the ending. I just don't want to know if they are unsuccessful. I'm glad you left it where you did. It ends on a note of "Don't Stop Me Now!"
I played a background music of Queen while I read. It was such a good complement. Perhaps you could undertake another story with the music of ELO or the Moody Blues as a backdrop. There is something about British rock of the 70's and Severus. Perhaps this is his soundtrack.
Thanks again for this story.
Excellent resolution. I rather liked that the ending was not all rosey--that would have seemed false to me. I, like so many other readers, didn't like Miranda. Although I can understand that the years of mistreatment culminating in forced sterility could drive her round the twist, she was simply too cold and calculating to ever draw my sympathies. I am glad the murder was solved and I liked the nice touch of Severus going to Harry. I did think that Severus and Hermione forgave each other rather too quickly for realism, but I am glad they did not simply give up on each other.I supose that this is a minor inconsistency, but if Miranda was virtually held prisoner in her husband's home, how did she end up getting free and going to Hogwarts to teach? Anyway, nice story and thanks.

Thank you so much for the comments! I'm glad you enjoyed the story overall; I had an excellent time writing it. I know it seems they forgave one another very quickly, but I think the idea of impending death would make petty grudges seem, well, petty. :)To your question: I did not really address this, but the implication was that once Antonio discovered that Miranda was sterile (and therefore unable to contribute in that way to the family), he decided she ought to contribute financially instead: thus, the job. Virtually holding her prisoner was only necessary if there were a possibility that she could have an affair.Again, thanks for the review! :-D

I'm glad you're making a second part to this! I liked the way you were able to make the characters not themselves, yet the same people. I just have one question though: What are all the songs they liked?
Response from julymorning (Author of By Flash and Thunder Fire)
I'm so glad you enjoyed the story! There will be a 'sequel,' as they say, but not for a while, as I'm pretty occupied at the moment with 'Soul Man.' :)The songs:'Look Into the Sun' - Jethro Tull'39' - Queen'When the Levee Breaks' - Led ZeppelinAnd at the very end of the story, of course, the one Snape chooses is 'Seven Seas of Rhye' - Queen.
I really like Draco in this story - he's extremely likeable and wise. But Snape, yeah....so stereotypically male and Hermione's like a victim until later chapters of course, but you still like her. And Snape, what an idiot!!! I mean, what drove me nuts and made me dislike him is his continuous relationship with Miranda after 'practically rape' in the Great Hall. He should have gone to Hermione because in that instance it wasn't his choice to engage Miranda and Hermione would have understood it, but nooo...SNape had to be all stupid and male about it...and Draco's right (that parable_ -Snape had been relegated to the level of sheep!!
Response from julymorning (Author of By Flash and Thunder Fire)
You're quite right - I wondered what people's reaction might be to a portrayal of Snape not as a masterly villain, but as a weak and suggestible man. Apparently that sort of Snape is not popular! But as far as I'm concerned, any reaction is a good reaction. :-) Thank you for the lovely review!
G0d, I really hated this chapter simply because of the situation with Severus and Miranda. It's just I hate this situation - Snape 'liking' Hermione and 'wanting to take things slow' and then that fucking with Miranda for a weekend! how hypocritical and makes you find SNape weak in succumbing to Miranda's wiles. I feel bad for Hermione, too. I had a feeling that both women were sort of subconsciously competing for Snape's attention and affection adn then Miranda and SNape pull that thing. I just hate it...I had that sick feeling in my stomach when I was reading this, I guess it felt/read sort of as betrayal of Hermione...and made me think that when later Hermione gets Snape, it's like getting left-overs, second-hand goods...just unpleasant feeling after this chapter. But man, you're an awesome writer!!
Response from julymorning (Author of By Flash and Thunder Fire)
Yeah, lots of people hated this chapter! Perhaps the most contentious I've ever written. I wanted to show how some people can rationalise their own ignoble desires, but instead I ended up making the characters look like jerks! But then, maybe those are the same thing. I'm pleased you like the writing - that swells the author's heart! Thank you so much for the thoughtful review. :-)
Not at all my usual fare, but I found this gripping. Your characterization of Miranda was creepy and horrible... just as you no doubt meant it to be. This story practically begs for a sequel, though.
Response from julymorning (Author of By Flash and Thunder Fire)
Thanks for your review. :) There will be a sequel, once I have finished 'Soul Man.'
Nice touch with the difference in magical languages. Quite unique.
Response from julymorning (Author of By Flash and Thunder Fire)
Thanks! :)
It might be disappointing that normally rational Hermione is jumping to conclusions, but I think it's completely believable that she would flip out. She was unusually understanding before with Snape, when he (as she would have thought) skipped out on her to take up with Miranda. No wonder all her anger is catching up with her now.
Response from julymorning (Author of By Flash and Thunder Fire)
They do say you shouldn't bottle things up, as it makes you feel all the worse when you finally let your feelings out. Thank you so much for the review!
Miranda even gives Harry the heebeegeebees. What is with that woman?! Isn’t she going to be questioned?
I was firmly on Hermione’s side with the legal irregularities right up until the moment Ron pointed out this was not the muggle legal system. Right then carry on. I am really irritated at Hermione for her behavior towards Severus. She showed no loyalty, no faith, no friendship nada. Wasn’t it lovely that the whole cell block including Mr. Malfoy witnessed it?
My fingers and toes are crossed for a speedy update.
Response from julymorning (Author of By Flash and Thunder Fire)
She's going to be questioned, as Harry said. Poor Hermione - everybody is so down on her for freaking out! I wouldn't be very rational, if I were in her situation. I can't imagine that anyone would be.Speedy update, yes - soon. :)
Response from MollysSister (Reviewer)
Oh you are right! I went and read some of the other reviews of this chapter. Hermione is on the shit list. I think you even have a flame in there! Congradulations! I suspect we are all annoyed with Hermione b/c we would stand by our man, especially if he was naked!
Response from julymorning (Author of By Flash and Thunder Fire)
I got a review for one of the earlier chapters that said only:'bastard'Dunno if that was a flame or a genuine response. :)
OH NO! I cannot believe Hermione turned her wand on him! Where is the benefit of the doubt? Makes me relieved that they have vertissurim. Did Miranda do it? Have you ever read A Faithful Death by Clara Minutes? It is here at this archive. http://www.thepetulantpoetess.com/viewstory.php?sid=3204 In her story Severus is framed for a murder and executed. Please tell me you are not going down the same path? Miranda behaved strangely around her husband. Subservient at times and willful at others…hummm It still boggles my mind that Severus would be intimate with a person who set off all his danger signs. Clearly he was thinking with the wrong head.
Response from julymorning (Author of By Flash and Thunder Fire)
I have not read that story - thanks for bringing it to my attention. I will reassure you though: he is not going to be executed. That would be horrible. *shiver*
Response from MollysSister (Reviewer)
((warning)) Clara Minutes story had me weeping. Not just tears, but the whole thing: tears, sobs, snot etc...Read it when you are already depressed. Faithful Death is the story that taught me to look for the warning "character death"
I am trying hard to figure out why Mr. Silva’s appearance just happens to occur the day after Severus and Hermione sleep together…I cannot figure it out. I really enjoyed Neville and Severus’ banter at the beginning of the chapter. They have moved full circle from their relationship while Neville was a student havent they? Why oh WHY didn’t Severus officially break it off with Miranda before going to Hermione?
Response from julymorning (Author of By Flash and Thunder Fire)
It's just coincidence. Maybe. :)
I had thought that Miranda had Snape under some sort of spell where by she was able to control him through sex. However as Snape slowly pulls away* he isn’t getting sick again, and he appears to have control of his mind. I cannot guess what is going on! I am completely hooked. You haven’t said a word about birth control. May I please assume that the Potion Master is taking care of this “off the page” ?? *Hermione is showing inhuman amounts of patience waiting for Snape to give up Miranda. I don’t know how she does it.
Response from julymorning (Author of By Flash and Thunder Fire)
I am keeping secret about the birth control thing. You will see why later.Hermione is nothing if not patient, but what else could she do?
OHMYGOSH did Miranda infect him with something? Is she the poision???? Is this some sort of revenge for the battle with Voldy???
Response from julymorning (Author of By Flash and Thunder Fire)
Haha - no. She's not that awful.
‘You’re an idiot,’ he said flatly.‘Oh, you think so?’ Snape snarled.‘Yes, I do. Are you still sixteen years old on the inside? Do you think everyone is as emotionally crippled as you?’I just adore to the very tips of my toes Draco taking Snape to task! I think Snape is being oblivious, immature and yes stupid. Miranda becoming friends with Hermione seems mean to me...what is she after?
Response from julymorning (Author of By Flash and Thunder Fire)
I really like Draco in this chapter too. :)
"It’s your move" is it EVER your move Severus. I hope he comes clean to Hermione... He just sort of fell into the sex/relationship with Miranda didnt he? I guess her spell did the trick after all. I cannot help but think there is more to Miranda than the reader knows about yet.
Response from julymorning (Author of By Flash and Thunder Fire)
V. perceptive. :)
I wonder does Severus understand the significance of Hermione remaining the same under Miranda's perfection spell? Are Draco & Neville an item? Have I mentioned how much I am enjoying this story?
Response from julymorning (Author of By Flash and Thunder Fire)
I'm so glad you're enjoying it! :) You will have to infer about Draco and Neville; unfortunately they are not central to the story, so I'm not really exploring their relationship. Maybe in another fic sometime. :)
Holy turmoil Batman! Snape is drawn to both Miranda & Hermione for very different reasons. I think maybe he is an adrenaline junkie. His libedo does not seem to shut down at danger, but rather he follows it. You are gonna get burned Severus. Poor Hermione turning into Miranda's doormat. Maybe Miranda did not care for being left out of things with Neville, Draco & Hermione and this is her revenge?
Response from julymorning (Author of By Flash and Thunder Fire)
Most people's libidos don't flag in the face of danger - isn't that why teenaged guys like to take their girlfriends to see scary movies? :)
Hello! I am quite pleased with the grown up Neville, Draco & Hermione. Draco especially with his generosity, and quiet dignity. I am worried about Prof Silva. She is making me nervous...
Response from julymorning (Author of By Flash and Thunder Fire)
Thanks! :)
Interesting, no doubt. They obviously do it differently. Not interrogating Miranda, for one. But, it doesn't matter, anyway. After this display of petty idiocy by Hermione, I can only be disgusted with Snape when he finds it endearing as a sign of jealousy or whatever. I'll read on, I'm silly that way. But these are not my Snape and Hermione and whatever they do is beside the point. I mean, they deserve each other if he can like her. Maybe I don't need to read on, after all.
Response from julymorning (Author of By Flash and Thunder Fire)
Well, that's up to you, really. I hope you do keep reading, but to be honest, if I couldn't sympathise with any of the characters in a story, I wouldn't waste my time either. Thanks for your very honest review.
Does Miranda have Hermione under some sort of spell as well as she seems to be behaving oddly as well, you would think that she would be standing by Severus.
Response from julymorning (Author of By Flash and Thunder Fire)
Nah, Hermione's not under a spell - she's just very, very angry.
Mrs Silva, in the dungeon, with the knife... do I win? ( signed Miss Scarlett.. always wanted to be her as a kid)
Response from julymorning (Author of By Flash and Thunder Fire)
I think we all wanted to be Miss Scarlett - she was awesome. :)
