Hermione is forced to lead a double life when she agrees to Dumbledore's plan to protect Professor Snape. Inspired by the Marriage Law. Warning for student/teacher relationship, though Hermione is of age.

Reviews for Second Life
Concern and fear are so much intense when you're in love. You know, the more I read it, the more I really like this fic.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Thank you! I'm so glad.
Just when I thought it was good Hermione had Moony to confide in! I'm glad that the memory of Hermione can be at least a little bit of comfort to Severus in his darkest moments; yet at the same time it's a double-edged sword because of everything she stands for and all she reminds him of.I'm glad they have the rings it's at least a bit of a security blanket for them.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
I'm so glad you enjoyed this chapter--and I'm very glad they have the rings, too. Thank you for reviewing!
Oh I do wish we could have both our heroes together again!Hermione must feel really grateful she at least has someone she can share her secret with; even if it is Moody.Yay! An army of Potters.*Goes off to review the next chapter*
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
I've been promising 28 as the point where we'd see them in the same room again, but it's looking like 29. *Ducks*But, believe me, I wish we could have them together as well! It is exceedingly difficult to write a love story in which the two main characters don't see each other for a year. ;)Thank you so much for reading and reviewing!
Oh My God. This is so good. I can't wait to read the next.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Thank you!! I'm so glad you liked it.
Whoa! Throughout my reading of DH, I never felt as emotional as I did reading this chapter. Great job! Don't mind me, I'll just be going to my room to cry, now...
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
*hugs you* No tears, please. Thank you!!
I've been following your enthralling story since the first chapter and have been increasingly more and more impressed by how you are weaving your own story into the story as written by JKR.This chapter, however, takes the interwaeving to a new level. I've always wondered about the story with Hermione's parents. The picture you have presented with this chapter had me feeling the despiration and and desparate hope that Hermione is also feeling.I regularly check here and at Ashwinder and the SSHG Digest on LJ for updates. I saw in review responses below that you'll soon be posting in real time, I wish you all the best for further speedy writing.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Thank you! Your thoughts mean a great deal to me. I'm very glad that this chapter struck a chord for you. Though, it's true, I'll be in real time soon, I write an average of 2 chapters per week, so hopefully you won't feel too much of a lag when it happens. Thank you so much for following the story.
well that was intense! whew!
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Thanks! It was intense to write, so I'm glad it was intense to read, too.
This must have been difficult to write. All these spur of the moment decisions that could possibly alter the rest of Hermione's life. When I thought about it, I could not imagine what it would be like for her to finally have time to relect back on what was done, regardless of it being for her parents best interest. To have, within about 20 minutes, completely wiped out your entire life! Parents, home, all the little things that collect from living. To literally become a homeless orphan for their safety! Great chapter.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
She is an incredibly brave girl, that Hermione. I was as staggered when it happened in canon as she meant for Harry to be. She is a Gryffindor through and through. Thank you so much for reading and reviewing.
A very well executed chapter. I enjoyed the brief kiss interlude...the phrasing was beautifully done...feathering his lips over hers and pulling away before he lost himself. Cheers Irish
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
That one was totally yours, my dear. One last kiss before we charge blindly into the fray. xoxo
You are going to spoil me with your speedy updates. Please spoil me, I like it. I was glad to read the discussion of how to save the Grangers. It irks me to no end when Hermione does the charm herself, then removes it and presto all is well. I think it is more realistic that she botches it and or her parents are pissed. I know I would be. I hope Snape took enough of Hermione's hope, determination and dare I say love with him? He is always so surprised at her loyalty. ((sniffle))Thank you again!
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
I can spoil you up til the end of next week--then we'll be posting in real time--a terrifying concept. ;)I have never felt that she would be able to handle a charm of that magnitude. So, I'm glad that you felt this was more realistic. Thank you!

Well done, great chapter! It squeezes just perfectly in between the book events... and seems to explain some loose ends quite well.
Author's Response: Thank you! I'm glad it worked for you!
i loved how you tied in facts from book seven, and i enjoy it more that Severus thought it all up!
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
He never gets as good press as she does, but he's brilliant, isn't he? I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Grim. So much hardship and loneliness for both of them. I can't wait for the next chapter, knowing how much work went into keeping in canon during the events of HBP, DH-land should prove to be very interesting.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
I hope that my DH lives up to your expectations. Yes, it's grim right from the beginning. But I hope to be able to infuse some occasional joy. Thank you so much for reading and reviewing.
*whimpers*Oh, the poor thing! But you've got him taking such good care of her *whimpers some more*.I was delighted to see an update today!
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it!
I just find it incredible how you manage to fit this story into cannon so flawlessly. This is another wonderful chapter Lariope! I'm always so amazed at you way of writing. How you can make this two characters say so much without saying anything or connect each other so deeply without touching (though I wouldn't object to a nice snogging session ;)LOL).Another amazing chapter and I can't wait for the rest."If all is lost,"I love that part it's so much more expressive than "If something happens to me" I'm glad you worded it like that.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Thank you so, so much. I'm just bouncing. I know that it's dreadful how they haven't been able to kiss. Still a bit longer, I'm afraid. I'm particularly pleased that you liked the end. It meant a great deal to me, too.
I can hardly breathe. This story becomes more and more complex as it goes, and your writing, more intricate. I am so glad you wrote it. Thank you, thank you.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Please start breathing!! No asphyxiation allowed!!Thank you so much,
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
. It means the world.
I'm a big fan of this story. I have to say that the note from Severus has me a little teary-eyed. It's so thoughtful. The words "if all is lost" seem so perfect. You're a very good author. Keep it up!
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Thank you--to me, the whole chapter comes down to that note. I'm glad it struck you the same way. :)
Wow, devastating to watch while you are taken away from your parents memories. At least they will be safe. I gather at the end the bones will turn into bodies. I like the way you have developed the, for lack of a better word "pull," Severus and Hermione have for each other. When they are together, they seem to be having to hold themselves back from their affection and physical need just to reassure each other.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Thank you,
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
. I'm very glad that "the pull," as you called it, is coming through. I'm always wary of turning every moment that they are together into a snog-fest, so I'm happy to hear that you can feel how much they want to. xoxo
Wonderful update. Last two lines round out this section very powerfully. Look forward to more. This is a very ambitious AU retelling of DH (unless it starts to diverge, as I devoutly hope.) Well done, as always.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
I *will* diverge--but there are few more chapters of very canon-true, canon-heavy plot. Just have to get through it to get the story where I've envisioned it. I'd look for a split starting after Ch. 24. Thank you for sticking with me!
Do I need to tell you again how I love this story? This chapter was marvellous, I am so impressed on your writing. The way you follow DH, but makes it all different, and way much better in my humble oppinion. The interaction between Hermione and Severus are so amazingly perfect for their situation, the lines so wonderfully written. And I am soooooo happy that Severus helped her getting her parents to safety just as I hoped you would have him do. Not that I actually doubted, he is truly the hero I fantom him to be here in your story. Yup, I am getting more and more sure that when this story is finished it will belong to the group of very few stories I can read over and over again and love every time I read them. Until next time:-))
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
*hugs you* Thank you so much,
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
. I'm glad that you are continuing to like the story. And yes, you always need to tell me. hehehe. I need constant reassurance. ;)
well taht explaines a lot i was wondering how hermione got them to austriliabut a very good chaoter indeed my friend i wish they could of had a little more time togetherbut alas they will at the end i hopethanks for sharing as usual
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
It never seemed right to me that Hermione could have performed such a feat--and then, of course, in the diner scene after the Weasley wedding she actually SAYS that she'd never performed a Memory Charm. I thought it was begging for an explanation. :) I'm glad it worked for you. I wish they'd had more time together as well, but hopefully those scenes are coming. :)
You're doing a wonderful job of filling in the blanks that JKR left gaping.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Thank you, Mia! :)
That's a nice and neat way to explain Hermione "never having done a Memory Charm before" in that café after the wedding. :-DThis was wonderfully intense. Hermione is handling things surprisingly well, but then, she's lived under plenty of pressure and having to make tough choices for several years by that point.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Thank you--and yes, to me, that line just NEEDED explaining.
Well, that was a really good chapter (even w/o the snogging session). I'm liking this story even more with each chapter. Thank you very much and please update soon.gab
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
I know, I know. We need kissing. I'm working on it! LOL. :)Thank you so much for reading and reviewing. I really appreciate it.
A multi-page essay is in your inbox. I'll just take up the position as your greatest fan and bow down to your greatness now. :-) You keep delivering with every chapter. I'm deeply in awe.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
I read your email just a moment ago. I'm just now resuming normal breathing. I'll write back shortly--just want to say... Thank you. I'm truly grateful.
