Deathly Hallows Prompts 6 and 8.
6. The kids leave after Snape dies. He sits up and realizes he is a ghost. (I changed this to a portrait instead of a ghost.)
8. As Hermione, Ron, and Harry watch Snape die, Hermione is devastated because she has been secretly in love with him. (The prompt calls for Hermione to use a Time-Turner to go back and rescue Severus, but I wanted to comply with the book and see if I could write a story where Hermione develops a strong, loving friendship with the Severus Snape she meets as a portrait many years later.)
Time: After the Epilogue. Place: Hogwarts. Hermione is teaching at Hogwarts and is Deputy Headmistress to Minerva McGonagall. Her children, Rose and Hugo, live at Hogwarts with her; her husband Ron manages the All-England Quidditch League. When Minerva McGonagall dies, Hermione is appointed Headmistress and moves in to the Head’s office.

I'm Lynnette. I'm a wife, stay at home mother of 9, with 5 daughters and 2 sons still at home. I have two grandsonz and one granddaughter:)
I LOVE to read, I LOVE to write, and am thrilled to be published here on The Petulant Poetess. I love the Harry Potter books because of my kids, and hope to get good enough to become an accredited beta reader at some point:)

that's well written, he is believable as a portrait who can see all yet do little, even so he can offer support and comfort in his own way.
Oh, that's so lovely.

Thank you so much. I'm very glad you enjoyed my story; it was the first fan fiction I ever published. Thank you for the kind thoughts:)Warm regards,Fizzabella
Death is always hardest on the children, isn't it?
Almost there. While I do enjoy the setup for the story and appreciate seeing how everyone has changed in the last 20 years, I can't help thinking how long it is taking to get to the actual prompt. Granted the chapters are short and I do understand that you have chosen to divide it in a way that each scene is it's own chapter, so it moves quickly, but given that so little happens in a chapter (I am used to stories that have multiple scenes per chapter), it is difficult to find something to say in the reviews. I will also admit that I took a break from the story because it didn't seem like the plot was really advancing from chapter to chapter. This doesn't mean this is a bad story, it isn't, it's just that for me it is a very slow moving story and it's hard for me to keep going. I hope that you won't take this the wrong way. I mean it as constructive criticism. If this were not a challenge fic, I probably would not have read this far because so little has happened. Generally you have one or two chapters if you are lucky to grab a reader's attention and this one didn't do so after the first chapter. If you wish to discuss this further, I am more than happy to do so by email - realizing you probably won't want to do so until your identity is revealed.
That would definitely be a draining day.
I can see those two portraits having it out on a regular basis.
I don't envy her having to make that announcement.
Hmmm... Now why would Draco be waiting for her?
You know part of me wishes that Hermione would not have appologized to Molly after she snapped at her. Hermione is the wronged party here. Molly should consider her audience before spouting off. After every chapter I wish there was another. This is a sign of an excellent story!

I'm so honored:) And glad you are enjoying it:)-HBV
It really is sad that she has obviously been in love with Severus Snape, but now only has his portrait to talk to. I am sure she wishes to have the real Snape there with her during such a trying time.
oh goody! now we're getting to the good stuff. you write all the characters very truly and i look forward to more. thanks so much

I couldn't be more honored than to have you tell me I have been true to these characters:) Thank you so much:)-HBV
This is a great chapter! You are fatastic!
God Hermione really has her plate full, I really feel sorry for her.
Sadly sweet. I'm glad she's taking the high road, though.
The beginning of a real friendship is developing between Severus and Hermione. It's very well done and tasteful for the situation at hand with Minerva's death.
I know I have told you before but I just adore the friendship they have as adults. Everyone is mature. Well everyone except for the AWOL Ron. Whats up with that? It would be unforgivable if he didnt show up for Minerva's funeral...

You'll be seeing Ron in a little while, he finally got his Floo connection straightened out.

I really like the interaction you have between Daraco and Harry. the seem to be able to tease each other comfortably about things that seemed so real when they were teenagers.I wonder whats going on between Ron and Hermione.
You know I hope it is just distance and not an affair with Ron. If they have drifted apart it would be understandable, but I really have started to dislike the "Ron is a horrible troll" stories. I certainly think that is a sunken ship but still, I mostly like the character, just not for Hermione.
great update. i love the idea of draco and harry being friendly that way. look forward to more. thanks
Are you going to do the time turner part? Gosh I am so excited! Your notes made me think you are a first time author, whether you are or not I would love to read something else by you, so after the contest when you can come out of the closet so to speak try a new plot bunny.
Response from fizzabella (Author of A Different Kind of Love Story)
I am so excited that you said that. I am a first time author, and I am continuing to write and working with my wonderful beta on another project, with two big ambitious ones in the works, I can't thank you enough for your enthusiasm about my work:) But the thanks are HEARTFELT:)

Hehehe... Potty and Ferret. I love that they have turned names they used in hatred during teenage years to names used in jest and familiarity in adulthood.
Welldone! :)

I saw something like this in one of the first fan fiction stories I ever read and it resonated with me, it made a lot of sense that if Harry and Draco ever got through all the house affiliation garbage, they might be friends. And I hated to think they would be 17 year old prats forever.

Aww, I love the relationship between Hermione and this mature Harry. I can hardly wait for more Snape!
Response from fizzabella (Author of A Different Kind of Love Story)
It's coming:) One more chapter of foundation and we all will be seeing a lot more of Severus:) I promise:)
Oh, I enjoy the chatter between the portraits!
Damn these short chapters! I do enjoy seeing how Harry has matured into a grown up. Its nice Hermione doesnt have to still be running their lives as adults. As always I look forward to the next chapter
Response from fizzabella (Author of A Different Kind of Love Story)
Being a new author, I guess I do try to keep the chapters short. Maybe I should combine two chapters into one for each post:) I will play with that and see if it works better:) Thank you for the comment, you have given me something more to think about:)

I like the way it is going
