I'm a forty-something American woman who is addicted to the SSHG pairing, relatively new to this fandom. I'm also considering starting some original fiction soon...
Check out the story I co-wrote with Remarkable -- it's called "Hidden Attractions" and (as soon as it's through the queue) it's archived under the penname remarkable_linlawless.
For those who are interested, I've got two WIPs at my website (which I will eventually post here, but not until I have a complete draft). It's easy and free to join the website, so I hope you'll visit!
I am honored that my story, Witchy Woman, has been selected as a featured story for September 2010. Better yet, this honor came with the very awesome banner at the top of this post!
Here's a couple of banners my friend Atuliel made for the two WIPs at my website:
Reviews for On Veelas, Light and Dark
Severus Snape! you shameless flirt you !
As for the unconscious apology, it depends on how he intends to render her unconscious.
Response from linlawless (Author of On Veelas, Light and Dark)
LMAO!!!!!! One shudders to think of the possibilities... or maybe shivers? Thanks for the review! :D
A little bit of Severus' sharpness is just what is needed, to cut through the smothering loving sweetness of the other staff members.
Response from linlawless (Author of On Veelas, Light and Dark)
Indeed! I think Hermione must be relieved to be treated normally by at least one person in her life. :) Thanks for the review!
hhmmm... i have a theory :-)
Response from linlawless (Author of On Veelas, Light and Dark)
LOL! I think Hermione has a theory, too. :D
LOL! The two most bookish people in Hogwarts get the dreaded and deceptively powerful Librarians' Shush. A dark denizen of the dungeons, a castle, and a vast library... thankfully, the house-elves don't appear to sing about their love of serving!
Response from linlawless (Author of On Veelas, Light and Dark)
Hehehehehe... maybe when no one is around, the house-elves whistle while they work? Thanks for the review! <3
Hmm, methinks mister Snape is so touchy because she IS the brightest witch of her age, and he knows she'll figure things out if age keeps researching. Now the only question is, how soon till she figures it out, and what to do with the knowledge?
Response from linlawless (Author of On Veelas, Light and Dark)
LOL! All shall be revealed in due course! :D Thanks for the review! :)
I absolutely love this story. Each chapter has been a great read, and I love that you always leave us wanting more. It makes me greedy and impatient and I want more chapters now! :-)
Response from linlawless (Author of On Veelas, Light and Dark)
Thank you! I'm so glad you're enjoying it so far! And thank you for reviewing, too. :D
Sounds like learning the subject of Hermione's inquiry cut a little too close to home. I'm guessing the fact that researching male Veela means that Hermione will (however inadvertently) be finding out things about Severus himself that he might rather she didn't.
Response from linlawless (Author of On Veelas, Light and Dark)
Hehehehehe! I suspect you may be on to something... :D
Off to one bang of a start!!! Love the premise and the prose. I'm off to the next chapter. :)
Response from linlawless (Author of On Veelas, Light and Dark)
Thank you! Glad you're enjoying it so far! :)
Severus to the rescue. Lovely chapter.
Response from linlawless (Author of On Veelas, Light and Dark)
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed! :)
I'm curious to find out why she needs to research. Is she hoping to steal Ron back? Or is she just trying to understand what triggers the Veelas' appeal. I can't see her really wanting to research men Veelas "just because", or is she hoping to fall in love herself? Or is it just such a strong sense of curiosity that despite her circumstances, she can't help but look into it? I guess that part to me is just a little unclear.I think the story is great. I love the idea of Snape being a dark Veela. Can't wait for more!
Response from linlawless (Author of On Veelas, Light and Dark)
I don't think it's anything more than Hermione being Hermione. Research, books, etc, have always been her anchor in troubled times. This is a convenient topic for her when she needs a break from a fairly significant emotional shock and wound. I don't think it's more than that, and I don't think it needs to be. Thanks for the review. :)
If they let themselves, I'm sure Severus can be exactly what Hermione needs.
Response from linlawless (Author of On Veelas, Light and Dark)
Hehehehe, I think we have a ways to go before we get to that point! ;) Thanks for reviewing! <3
Trust Severus to save the day, or dinner rather. As the title suggests the appearance of a Dark Veela in this story I wonder who you have in mind, mhm? Thank you for a unique story!
Response from linlawless (Author of On Veelas, Light and Dark)
LOL! Yes, Severus does things in his own inimitable way. Thanks for the review, and I'm glad you're enjoying the story so far! :)
Thank you so much for another brilliant update, I loved this story and I am so happy Severus interrupted all the "sorrow" as he did. Compassion is a wonderful thing, but it can be overdone:-))
Response from linlawless (Author of On Veelas, Light and Dark)
Yes, it's difficult when what you need and what people try to give you don't mesh. But I think Hermione at least recognizes and appreciates the good intentions. :)
It is rather frustrating when you're trying very hard not to think about something/someone and yet that's all everyone else wants to talk about. I imagine Severus has been in that position a few times or so himself, so I'm sure he would recognize the signs quite well.
Response from linlawless (Author of On Veelas, Light and Dark)
Yes, it's definitely tough when someone's attempts at comfort just re-open the wound. :P Thanks for reviewing! :) <3
Ah, poor Hermione.Actually the Skeeter article wasn't as bad as it could have been. Then again, Skeeter didn't need to make up lies for it...
Response from linlawless (Author of On Veelas, Light and Dark)
Yeah, the story itself was sensational enough; she didn't need to put her fiction-writing "talents" to use. :)
I'm actually glad that Fleur doesn't think highly of what her sister did. I'm guessing Hermione will be paying a trip to Hogwart's. If Severus will be in this story, then that would be the place for it. I still think he's a male Veela, or at least in part. I think that would be a perfect way for Hermione to get back at Ron. Will Ron be making an appearance in this story?
Response from linlawless (Author of On Veelas, Light and Dark)
LOL, now that would be telling! Given the category the story is in, I think it's a fair bet that Severus will be in the story, though. ;) Thanks for the review!
Poor Hermione; Ron's an ass. I wonder if anyone else noticed that Luna and Ginny were describing Severus.
Response from linlawless (Author of On Veelas, Light and Dark)
Hehehehe, well, how could Ron possibly fight Fate? I figure Luna probably already knew all the first time she met Severus, but who knows who else might notice something like that? ;)
Just love Snape as its most snarky!
Response from linlawless (Author of On Veelas, Light and Dark)
Snarky Snape is always fun! Thanks for reviewing! :)
If Ron were any kind of man, he would have called off the wedding , then gone off with "miss Gabby", but he was always weak and ready to take the easy way out. As for "miss Gabby" herself, there is nothing lower than a women that will go after another womens man, even if the man in question is Ron.
I hope Hermione can dry her tears, and realise what a lucky escape she has had.
Response from linlawless (Author of On Veelas, Light and Dark)
Well, Ron could certainly have handled things better, but at some level, the fact that he didn't might make it easier for Hermione to get over the relationship. And who knows if Gabby went after him? He might have been the pursuer... Regardless, it *is* a lucky escape. :) Thanks for the review!
Poor Hermonie. Loved the chapter and am looking forward to more.
Response from linlawless (Author of On Veelas, Light and Dark)
Thank you! Glad you're enjoying! :)
A cliffie, even if just a small one. So soon. You know, there's no reason to leave the rest of the chapters moldering and lonely on your hard drive. Feel free to just load them all up. We'll take good care of them. Promise.
Response from linlawless (Author of On Veelas, Light and Dark)
LOL! Thank you! Glad you're enjoying it enough to want me to hurry up and post. But I'm pretty much making final edits as I go along, so... :)
Response from Phyllidia (Reviewer)
The torture!!! <insert emo, weeping, hair-pulling, fist pounding, over dramatic emoticon>
*bounce bounce bounce* ooh a new storyDark-haired, ugly, awkward--I wonder WHO it could be!
Response from linlawless (Author of On Veelas, Light and Dark)
Hehehehehe! Yes, I wonder! Hmmmmmm... Thanks for reviewing! Glad you're enjoying so far! :)
So happy for another chapter, I think I will be hooked on this story:-))
Response from linlawless (Author of On Veelas, Light and Dark)
Thank you! I certainly hope so! ;) :D
Looking forward to finding out what information Hogwarts may have on the subject of Veela-kind. I wonder how the rest of Ron's family is reacting to the news of his perfidy. Good on Fleur to be sincerely apologetic for her sister's decision to ignore Ron's engagement, but it's still on Ron for going there. He was the one who made a commitment then decided to chuck it when Miss Gabby fluttered along. Although it is better that Hermione learned the truth before entering into a sham of a marriage, Ron still took the coward's way out.
Response from linlawless (Author of On Veelas, Light and Dark)
I suspect Ron was rather bewitched and befuddled (not to mention impulsive). And yes, it's definitely good that Hermione found out before the wedding! :D
Liked the opening to your new story. Poor Hermione being let down so bad by Ron. Never mind girl, more fish in the sea and looks like she will be on the trail researching for her next love interest. Lets hope so.
Thanks for writing and posting.
Response from linlawless (Author of On Veelas, Light and Dark)
Thank you! Research is panacea for Hermione, I think. Even better than ice cream! :D
