But Hermione has her own, dangerous agenda. Can she complete her appointed task without running afoul of the law, or the man she despises most - Severus Snape?
Written by stgulik and Teddy Radiator for Droxy. This story was originally commissioned as a TPP Every Flavour Auction gift, but was actually written for the 2012 Summer LJ het_bigbang fest.

Reviews for Droxy's Folly
Love Mrs. Hope... what a lovely character... and now I know what Droxy's Folly is. ;)Severus is so, so in love with her. It really is heartbreaking that these two can't seem to come together.

I swear on a stack of bibles that Mrs. Hope is NOT my MarySue.... well, not deliberately.... I know, Severus got to me in this chapter, and I wrote it! I think his encounter with Hermione's wards may be some of the work I'm most proud of in anything I've ever written...sorry to sound so immodest....

My rebellious nature is trying to force me to hate Pansy (since everyone else seems to like her), but it's not working. She's a great character in this story. Now Lucius, on the other hand....
Response from TeddyRadiator (Author of Droxy's Folly)
Thanks, babe! I told Jules that Pansy needs her own reality show. Oh, Lucius isn't bad - he's just drawn that way...

Well, that went better than expected. You constantly keep me guessing in this one. It seems as if Lucius is calling in the big guns in a bad way, but yet, some of the things he says are cryptic. Could he have an agenda to keep her in line, but for good purposes? I just don't know what to think anymore. And Pansy, I like her more and more all of the time. How does she fit into all of this? She put on quite a performance in that office, even if it wasn't entirely altruistic. Good grief, I'm half tempted to miss work tomorrow just to know what happens *I think I feel a sore throat coming on*
Response from TeddyRadiator (Author of Droxy's Folly)
Well, I can honestly say I've never tempted anyone to skive off work before - I take that as a huge compliment! Pansy was the surprise of this story. As it developed, I thought Draco would be the favourite, but Pansy had other plans, and emerged as a strong personality, a little ambiguous but nevertheless compelling. It's lovely to see readers falling in like with her.

How could you end this chapter is such a fashion? I am going to be a mess at work tomorrow because now I have to stay up even later to read another chapter.Man, this is tearjerker central. Lucius is just a disgusting person and that is all I have to say about that. The hallway meeting between Severus and Hermione was painful. I just wanted to yell at her to stop talking, let him apologize or whatever, and then believe him again. But, it was not to be.I love the final scene in Severus' office. Good for Lugubrious for layiing it all on the line. I, too, am glad that Severus has a portrait friend, just as Hermione does. There is no reason for him to make this stuff up, so surely Hermione will now start to reinstate her faith in Severus. Except ... drat, I'd almost forgotten about the end of the chapter.
Response from TeddyRadiator (Author of Droxy's Folly)
Oh, dear, we seem to be getting you into all sorts of trouble! Writing the hall scene was painful and I originally wrote it very wrong - thank goodness stgulik was watching my back and said, "No. This is how is has to go." As always she was right. And we have her to thank for that moving conversation between Lugubrious and Hermione - I still tear up when I read, "He loves you, Hermione." Gets me every time, and I tell her every time!

I'm never going to be able to explain what I love/hate about this chapter. But that won't stop me from trying. :) Things continue to happen in this story, and you hint about them so I see them coming. Two blatent examples are the pregnancy and miscarriage, and Ron's death. I saw them coming from a mile away (not saying that you are predictable), but somehow, when they actually happened, I was dumbstruck. Like even though I expected them, I still couldn't believe it and I was a big teary mess. Maybe I thought at the last minute, you would make them not happen in some weird twist of fate. Probably a good thing for Ron, actually, but it is just one more thing for Severus and probably Hermione as well, to add to their list of burdens. All I know if that if you give them their happy ending, it is going to be hard earned.
Response from TeddyRadiator (Author of Droxy's Folly)
Well, I never promised to be unpredictable! Actually, we were just talking that, there are about seven different stories in the entire world, and we just keep recycling them.
Response from HBAR (Reviewer)
I really didn't think this was predictable at all. Not until close to the time the things were going to happen (which doesn't count). I didn't mean to say that at all. It was more of the fact that I thought I had resigned myself to accepting the fate of the characters, so I was shocked when those things happened and I was still so upset by them. I guess I should say that things were written so well that I was more bothered by them then I thought I ought to be.
Response from TeddyRadiator (Author of Droxy's Folly)
No worries! I see what you mean. Thank you. It's a wonderful thing to be able to write something that makes someone feel so deeply about your characters.

Okay, first of all, what on earth does all of this information about the capture of Hermione mean to Severus? Does it matter? Is it going to help somehow, or is he just obsessing over her since seeing her again? Yes, I know ... keep reading.Second, I could have used a tissue warning with this one. The Ron/Hermione scene at St. Mungo's was heartbraking. You've done an absolutely splendid job portraying someone who is only half lucid, one moment knowing clearly what is what, and the next utter confusion. When he told her he was playing chess with Dumbledore, I thought perhaps he really was. Maybe his crazy was really part reality. But the more he talked, the less I felt that way. But who knows. It has been awhile since I have been this excited about reading a story. I am so glad I started this and can't wait for a moment of free time to move on.

I was so thrilled at your last paragraph. What an incredible compliment to receive. Stgulik and I had such a great time writing this, and to have that reaction from a reader - well, it just doesn't get any better. I hope you'll have a change to read some more soon!

Wow. Just wow. What a wonderful and horrible chapter all in one. We get only bits and pieces of their time together, but their emotions are palpable. The despair, lonliness, devotion, desire, friendship, raw needs being fulfilled on so many levels, and then it is all dashed away in a matter of minutes. We as readers can sympathize with Hermione and understand that no matter who Dumbledore trusted, she must not share the horcrux info. Severus doesn't have the luxury of being able to see things from her point of view. This is just one more person he cares about who doesn't hold him in the regard with which they should. Absolurely heartbreaking. And in case you are wondering, my children did get to eat tonight. I better finish this so I don't neglect to take them to school tomorrow. :)

Thank you so much. That was in many ways a tough chapter to write. I hate writing them at odds with one another - I like them to work together! But you have to have some anguish to sweeten what comes later.

Oh my. It almost seems, the way they spoke to each other on the dance floor, that there had been something intimate between Snape and Hermione before she was tracked down and thrown into Azkaban. Could it be so?Either way, I do hope that he marches outside in time to escort her home. That way, Pansy can persue her promising prize, and maybe we can get some definitive answers. Yes?
Response from TeddyRadiator (Author of Droxy's Folly)
Well, I don't like to say... :) And it would be awfully rude of him to leave Diana that way, don't you think?
Response from ClayPotter (Reviewer)
It seemed that he had already made his excuses to Diana for the evening. She needn't know what he was up to. Besides, just because he escorts Hermione home, doesn't mean he plans to bed her when they get there. I doubt Hermione would allow it anyway. Considering the way she treated him when they were dancing, she probably won't let him escort her home either. I just have so many questions about their interaction, I can't help but speculate about it.
Response from TeddyRadiator (Author of Droxy's Folly)
Thank you so much! I am really glad you are enjoying the story. Yes, I'm afraid Diana is an ex-parrot, as they say. I won't spoil the next chapter though - I'll leave it for you to discover.

Snape's dispair is palpitable (did I spell that right?) I am amused that he is a shit ministry employee. Seems like he has covered things where Lucius is concerned. Draco is a delight. I find myself hoping if Hermione does get sent back to Azkaban at least Draco would visit. Cant wait for them shopping togehter. Will it be like in the movie Pretty Woman??
Response from TeddyRadiator (Author of Droxy's Folly)
Poor Severus! Some folks are just not cut out to be politicians. And Draco is, I know, a hearthrob to many, but I have always pictured him this way, and stgulik thankfully indulged me. I think you might be thinking about 'palpable', but I'd have to ask stgulik. As my beta, she's the one who knows these things! ;)

This goes straight to my favourites! Can't wait to read the rest. Thrilled to read in your responses that you'll be updating soon. This is a very powerful beginning. I love your Snape - he's perfect. The secene at the end of the chapter with him visiting Ron was very touching (it was one of those very well-written "he's so noble" moments that is actually very rare!) Overall, you manage just the right balance between despair and hope, lightness and dark. I love your complex, haunted chatacters (even LM doesn't seem to be entirely who he appears to be), and I wonder where fate will take them next. Absolutely can't wait for HG and SS to meet... What a wonderful story overall. It will keep me thinking and waiting for days - until you update the next chapter! :)

Enjoyed the oily Burgin giving Hermione the hairy eyeball, as well as Headmaster Black and her rekindling their relationship - and their feisty banter - lovely! Almost blubbered like a baby with Sev visiting Ronald in St Mungo's... It is so profound and moving and utterly (the true) Snape--lovely irony and poingnancy with him bringing a Chocolate Frog and playing Chess--really sweet and touching, again, making me all mushy... Mmm, Draco & Hermione at Madam Malkin's--yum! 'Queen of the Lost'--can't wait for more!

Okay, gotta ask: how on earth did Hermione know Phineas' portrait would end up in Borgin & Burkes, of all places? I would have taken him home too, the old softy! And it was so bittersweet to see Severus visit Ron. Even though I don't like Ron with Hermione, I still think he was a good, simple bloke. And knowing he ended up damaged made me feel so sad for him. It's amazing that Severus hardly gave half a whit's notice to Ron while he was in school, but feels almost responsible for him now.

There is still hope ,for the light.I wonder how many other Headmasters and Headmisstrses, are left. . I'm glad someone still cares about poor Ron, who would have thought it would be Severus.

Azkaban clearly hasn't broken Herms, judging by the way she handles the goblins. Very kind of Sev to play chess with Ron regularly. Crossing fingers for Herms at the party.

Mmmn--love the entrance of Snape, his 'new life' depivted and yet, the same 'abject emptiness'- lovely, spot on description of his 'inner self'.'You’re a veritable Fairy Godmother,” drawled Severus.' - HA! wonderful banter and rapport between Lulu and Sev, with an underlying, tangible edge.Really enjoying Hermione and Draco's relationship and, yes, the hope and 'humanity' in the former bleakness of it all! Lovely, poignant zinger at the end with Severus toasting fallen comrades--beautiful!
Response from TeddyRadiator (Author of Droxy's Folly)
Thank you so much. We talked long and hard about Severus' personality, and how it would be altered by the outcome of the war, and we agreed that he would not long be the snarky, bullying bad tempered man he'd been - he couldnt' be. He, too, was on the losing side - it's just that the winning side didn't see it that way, and he was resigned to playing a new role. And it's so fun to write banter between Lucius and Severus. That is one of my favourite pairs to write dialogue. I'm not into Lucius/Severus smut at all, but I do love to have them try and outwit one another.
