There was something in Dumbledore's eyes as he had said, “And Hermione Granger for Viktor Krum.” The Headmaster had looked in Septima's direction with a certain satisfaction. It was slight enough; no one else would have noticed, including Septima herself, apparently. She was doodling in a notebook, where her equations were askew.
She glanced up at him as the other teachers left the staff room. She tapped her notebook with her pencil. “It's complete bollocks, lately.”
“You're a brilliant witch. It will come right if you keep at it.”
She looked at him more seriously. “Did he really say what I heard?”
“Yes.”
She took a deep breath and would have said more but he put a finger on her lips. “Not another word about it until we're sure we're alone.”
Septima nodded.
Severus didn't exactly leave it at that. Soon after the meeting, he managed to corner the boy and perform some quick Legilimency. Of course the boy was thinking about little else just then, and he had an excellent spell in mind to complete the task. It was reassuring enough that Severus could reassure his wife later.

The way the second task had been arranged still rankled, but everyone came out safely enough, and it wasn't worth fretting about after it was over. Now there was only the third task of the tournament left, but that was weeks away. For now, time was best spent in looking over lecture notes and grading exams, since certain other pastimes were off limits.
Fortunately, the days passed more quickly than he had feared. Septima went to Severus's class room after a fourth year class one afternoon and locked the door. He was sitting at his desk, sorting through the essays he had just collected. He looked up at her when he heard the click of the lock. That clicking sound had always made his blood race.
“Is there something I can help you with, Professor?”
“Poppy says I've healed enough and that I'm ready.”
“Ready?”
Septima walked over and sat on the corner of his desk. “For you, me... us.”
Severus stood so quickly that she had to hop off the desk or risk falling. “Ready, Professor? For what?”
She was overwhelmed by his sudden intensity and took a step backwards. “For...”
“Yes?” He took a step toward her, and she stepped backward again.
“For...”
“For this?” he asked as he pushed her up against his chalk board.
“Yes,” she whispered as he pressed his body against hers.
She was everything he remembered. It was magical, pressing against her and shagging her like a sex-starved eighteen year old. She made some sort of noise, and it made him more excited. She felt so, so good... Just like when he was a teenager, he couldn't control himself, and it was over far too soon.
“I missed this, witch,” he said in his softest, sultriest voice.
She was pushing away from him, and grabbing for her knickers. Suddenly he realized something was wrong. “That was bad for you?” How could it be bad for her?
She shrugged. “I wasn't quite ready, I guess, and Nicky is going to want a feeding soon, so I'm a bit sore.” She held her hand to her chest.
“I'm sorry, I'll pay better attention next time.”
“I don't remember the chalk tray pressing such a cold line into my bum, or there being a catch between my shoulder blades. Then my head was pounding and rubbing against the board...”
Didn't she enjoy any of it? He lowered his head and kissed her. “We'll do it better, tonight.”
“Will you be coming upstairs, or do you want me to come down?”
“Damn Dumbledore and his pronouncements. We'll be back in the same quarters as soon as I figure out how to arrange it. I had better come to you in case he decides to visit me.”
Septima had just put the baby down when he arrived. She was wearing a dress he liked, and she had some wine set out for him. They sat on her couch and enjoyed relaxing for a few minutes.
“Should we try to explore my memories with your potions again after he's weaned?” Septima asked.
“We can do that, if you like. After the way so many came up in the last year, I suspect that they'll all surface at some point.”
They discussed some students, but the conversation dwindled down to nothing. Septima looked at him nervously. He was reminded of the night they had become lovers, when everything had been awkward until she had kissed him.
He leaned over. “I've missed you, witch.”
“I've missed you, too.”
He kissed her gently. He deliberately kept it soft, and it relaxed her. When their lips parted, he ran his fingers under her chin. “I should have been doing more of this with you all along.”
She reached down and took his other hand in hers as she lifted her lips up for another kiss. It wasn't hard after that, to relax on the couch as they kissed more. After a while, they had moved closer until they were pressed together.
“Are you ready to move to the bed?” he asked.
“Oh, yes,” she answered.
He stood up and put a guiding arm around her. They walked toward the bedroom, stopping to kiss as they went. By the time she was standing next to the bed, Septima realized that her dress was unzipped and down one arm. She giggled and let it fall to the floor. Then she sat on the bed and started unfastening Severus's trousers. When he was as undressed as she, they lay back on the bed.
Now their kisses included touches. Severus ran his hands down Septima's body and then lowered his mouth to kiss everything he touched. Septima alternated between holding his head against her and trying to wriggle around to touch and explore him as well. Her knee moved around his and he chuckled. “I love when you do that,” he said. He moved between her legs as his hands caressed her bum.
The baby cried out. They stopped moving except to turn their faces toward the crib.
Septima whispered. “Some nights he goes right back to sleep. Let's just wait a minute.”
The baby cried again, and then started to wail. Septima pushed her way up and walked over to the alcove where the baby's crib stood. He was dripping wet. She changed his diaper. As she tried to put him down again, he started rooting at her chest. She had to bring him to the bed.
“I don't understand. I just fed him!”
Severus smiled. “I think I can understand his desire to breastfeed.” He sat up against the headboard and pulled her up against him. After she settled the baby at one breast, Severus slid his hand up around the other. “I love your breasts, myself.”
Septima settled into his side and fed their son as Severus looked on contentedly. The next thing they heard was the sound of the alarm. They had fallen asleep in that position.
He followed her to the child's crib. She laid the baby down. and he snuggled and sighed himself into deeper sleep. Severus wrapped his arms around his wife.
They backed up and then moved to the bed. He quickly moved over her and started nudging at her knees. Once again he felt as he had when he was young. He moved quickly and frantically within her. Fortunately or unfortunately, it was over quickly.
He rolled away with a big smile. “Good morning,” he said with something akin to brightness in his voice. She was rolling away to the side of the bed and moving quickly toward the loo.
He sighed and ran his hands through his scalp. “Not again.” He followed her and stood in the doorway of the bathroom. “What is the matter with you?”
“I don't know,” she said quietly. “I just wasn't quite ready.”
“Are you saying it's my fault?”
She shook her head. “I don't think so. You did what you've always done. I guess it's me.”

I found this story on random and unfortunately got into it before I realized it hadn't been finished. I've enjoyed the pairing and the artful way in which you weave in and out of canon. I'm so sorry you've abandoned this tale - I would have liked to have seen how you would have handled the remainder of the story.
Just digging through my WIPs and noticed that you haven't surfaced in awhile. I hope everything is okay, and that you are going to continue this. I miss you.

Thank you so much for asking about this! It's a full year since I wrote the chapter last posted for this story. My beta reader got sick, and then I got distracted by other things. I'm sorry about that. I know exactly what's supposed to happen next; I just need to write it. Let me see what I can do.

Don't know how I missed this update. I like the twists this story is taking with canon. Of course, things aren't going to be smooth for them for a long time, if ever.

Please write more!!! I actually have a Septima Vector (the only) Twitter account. Some of the ways you see her and Snape and the intellectual part of their relationship is so close to how I see it as well. Very fun to read!

Fortunately Hermione is smart and sensible, because it must be difficult to have to treat and be treated by your parents as if you are teacher and student. I am sure she can understand and play along, but still, it would be tough. If Severus was smart, he would teach occlumency to Hermione, who could in turn teach Harry :)

My favorite part of the chapter was Hermione spying on her parents. What a Harry thing to do, LOL! But, it makes you wish that they could see themselves through her eyes. I think after while you start to miss the subtle nuances in your relationship, or maybe they've never noticed because there is so much baggage with their relationship. Perhaps the Snapes need a trip into the pensieve. Nice chapter.

These two are so compatible in most all things, and yet, there is a sort of disconnect when it comes to their relationship. Lily is always hanging there betweem them, keeping Severus from knowing he loves Septima, and keeping her from feeling worthy of his love. But still, they remain together. I wonder what will finally bring them together completely?

Thank you, again! Yes, he's still got the idea that love has to hurt, and Septima is finally giving him a dose of uncertainty, but that's not necessarily good either. Yet now with the whole Lily thing understood, things are starting to even out. There are still a couple of canon secrets from Septima that have an effect on them as a couple. We'll discover them eventually.

That didn't go well. It could have been much worse of course, but it wasn't pretty either. But, I am glad that Septima said the things that she did. She needs to get it out, and let him know how she feels. And, not succumb to his request to come to bed with him. Of course, it was surely good for him, too. If they can just stay the course and continue to communicate- good, bad, or otherwise- I think that things just might work out.

She's been so afraid of his temper and of losing him over the course of their relationship, and now she's finally shed that worry and can say what she thinks, even though it's in the back of her mind that maybe she's pushing him too far.

Oh, dear. She heard a lot in a short conversation. Fortunately, Severus didn't hear it. I wonder if she will share any of it with him, or ask about Lily. That was possibly the worst part of the conversation. These two really need to have a heart to heart so they know where each other stands.

Horses ... centaurs ... she'll figure it out eventually, LOL.I like how Hermione scolds Severus and then hugs him before running off all in a short span of time.Things are a little tense betweem Septima and Severus, huh? I do hope they can both figure themselves out, and therefore, be more available emotionally to one another. The physical side of things ... I think they've got that part worked out already. ;)

What a sweet little chapter. Septima does have a right to a life outside of her family, and if she bows down to everyone else's needs all of the time, she will lose herself entirely. That is a good sign for her.I loved the nice family feel to the scene she witnessed between her children. It was sweet as can be, and though she felt a little jealous, it seems she can see the goodness in it, as well.

It's a bit of a mid-life crisis, to realize some things aren't feasible, others may need to be postponed, while other things are lovely here and now. She'll figure it out. ;) I love watching siblings interact, especially when they don't realize their mum is watching. Severus' daughter is good with words; it must be in the genes. "Shamefully" is spot-on. I like how actively she builds up her relationship with him, even manhandling him. Excellent thinking, too, that Severus fed Hermione the idea for D.A. Yes, well, women surely are difficult ... next the old meddler will tell Severus that men are anyhow the better partners.However, why he seems to enjoy Umbrige's meddling is not clear to me. Does he try to aggravate Severus in yet another way?

Excellent! Septima sends them away, and they find--family life! And they manage hermione's problems without her, too! Yes, she has a right to this--as much as her family has. 
A win-win-win-win situation; let's hope Septima sees it that way too.

Leaving Septima alone with Dumbledore is always dangerous, even if the harm isn't physical.Yay for the return of the chalkboard!I thought it was interesting that when Septime made the comment about him being on both the giving and receiving end of rejection and humiliation, he automatically thinks about Lily, but not about Septima. Does he have any clue how he sometimes makes her feel? I mean he is very, very good to her, and I don't think he has bad intentions, but he is still not 100% committed to her, and in the end, that is what she needs and deserves.

What a nice talk Septima and Remus had. I am glad that past events didn't sour their friendship.And Sirius putting the moves on her made me giggle. Then Snape burst in and snatched her away, and while he made an obnoxious comment about Sirius' house (which also made me giggle) there was no fighting between the two which was a relief. There is enough tension as it is with Dumbledore around.

Thank you! I think Remus and Septima see each other as veterans from the same battle. I've always pictured Sirius as a perpetual young adult male on the make, so he would consider any presentable female to be fair game. Isn't it wonderful that Snape can make a neutral comment obnoxious just with a shrug and wave of his hand? I love that about him.

LOL! Sirius is mostly harmless. I don't think he knows a proper way to be in public after all that time in Azkaban and on the run. I think you're right, too. Severus seems to have everything Sirius doesn't have right now.
