I know they mean well, but her friends seem to delight in torturing her.

It's hard not to compare their pain, and see it as some kind of odd 'tie that binds'.
Having Severus champion Hermione's cause, of wanting to be left in her misery was very entertaining. Percy is no match for Severus intellectually. (I loved the 'mate' comment.  What a dry word to use on someone like Severus who played the fence in order to survive.)  I'm sure he only wanted to spare her the pain of the illusion of normality that she would be expected to project if she joined the others for a night cap. Was this his way of reaching out to her, a want to protect her from her well meaning friends? Possibly an act of selfishness on his part? *smirk*

I have to say that I found this story really lovely. I was surprised when I had reached the last chapter and noticed it was a work in progress, however it could have ended there okay, leaving it open for a sequel. You captured the nuances of depression very well. I hope you do come back to it, but I know sometimes the muse leaves us on some stories. Thanks again! Cheers!

Forgot to mention on the last chapter- Snape's flashes of his past when Hermione touched his chest are a nice twist.

Now for this chapter: His discomfort at her emotional collapse is a bit funny. But what I love best is the very last line: ...basked for the moment in the silent approbation of Severus Snape. Very poignant. Do you have an approximate chapter count for how long this will be when all is said and done?

Just how long will it take for Hermione to figure out that he is easily manipulating her into health? Love the angry indignation at the disappearance of her sleep potion.

I love how easily the compliments appear to flow from Snape's lips, shocking her so well. He is navigating such rocky terrain with Hermione, and doing so quite well.

I love how they've been circling around the issues and around one another, yet slowly making progress.  Finally, they're understanding and accepting another level of interest in one another.

Looking forward to seeing what happens next!
