War is hell, and the aftermath is often the most hellish part of all. Having lost everyone she most loves, Hermione Granger is only a shell of the woman she had been. Devastated by loss and guilt, Hermione draws the attention of Severus Snape with a random utterance.

Ooo, Severus' raw emotion is almost tangible. I love the set-up of the last scene, and of course the last sentence is perfect.
OMG, it's catching! Loved seeing things from Snape's POV. I hadn't thought about this being such unfamiliar territory for him, too. It's quite endearing to see him bumbling his way through his attempts to help her. I do hope he appreciates just how difficult it is to knock when you are unsure of your welcome. Hermione has turned the tables nicely and that in itself is worthy of her Gryffindor bravery. So, knock, Severus. You have only to knock. Not so easy, is it?!
Hermione flipped the script now Severus knows how it feels to be on the outside of the door. Hmm lets see will she open the door.
Ah, now the shoe is on the other foot! Ha! How's that feel Severus?
Great chapter (but too short!).
I read everything up til here last night, and I'm entranced. I love that we've finally gotten to see his perspective--the notion that he intends to save ONE of them is somehow chilling and perfectly apt. You still write the Snape I know and love with perfect, aching accuracy--and my heart breaks for this Hermione. It's wonderful to read a story of yours again. xoxox
ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGH.
Oh damn, what are you doing to Hermione? Hopefully Severus can make her all better.
On to the last chapter you have posted here.
love Sonia :)
And now Severus finds himself in the same position as Hermione - sometimes it takes a great deal of courage to simply "knock"... I love the glimpses of Severus' uncertainty - it makes him so much more human.
Will you please explain his credentials to me?
I like how this chapter went full circle for each one of them being unable to knock on the door. Frustrating but beautiful in the symentry as well.
They are so oddly alike. I may sound like an idiot, but what do his credentials mean? Brilliant chapter, by the way.
Lovely chapter. It is great to see things from Severus' point of view, and now he's the one who must knock. This continues to be a very, very intriguing story.
Sub,
you write so well that the characters are irratiting me a bit.
there issues with knocking wants me to knock them together.
hmmm sorry that doesn't sound like what i want to get across must be all the snow outside
i do enjoy your story.
It is me who is impatient and wants to light a fire under each one
lol
sorry for rambling
is hubby your proofer this round
Now Severus is going through the same feelings that Hermione did each time she went to his door. At least this will give him a chance to see things from her perspective. He's uncertain of his reception, just as Hermione is unsure of hers.
Aww, so sweet that Severus is taking care of his girl, though, my heart is just breaking for Hermione reading the last few chapters. Another fantistic chapter
I can't help but wonder if this is Hermione's way of illustrating to Severus that it's not so easy after all to "just knock"... Maybe he will reach a deeper understanding of her own fears now that he has realized his in that regard. Looking forward to the next chapter, I must know what happens next!
Wonderful chapter, as always...danged if I can figure out what Snape's credentials are though.
Oooh! Such brilliant turnabout! I was not expecting that little twist there at the end. SO perfect!
Oi. What is up with these two and the lack of knocking!? JUST KNOCK ALREADY. lol. I do enjoy the play-by-play though. So, I guess I can 'suffer' through more of this wonderful story if they don't quite knock yet. It's sweet torture. I want them to knock so they can get it over with but I don't want them to knock so this can continue! I'm so glad to see you updating and turning the tables, so to speak, having Severus be the one who has to knock this time instead of Hermione. :)
Whew. Now that I know Severus' thoughts, I can breathe a sigh of relief. I really thought he had ulterior motives in trying to bring Hermione from her PTSD shell shock. But the old demons still haunt Severus, self-doubt preventing him from knocking this time. He must believe in himself. The fragile, broken Hermione can't move forward, so he must overcome his insecurities and go to her. If were just so easy...
And now the tables are turned. WOW! I can't believe that Severus Snape would not be able to find the courage to knock. But then again, dealing with possible rejection from a woman he obviously cares for would be far more difficult for him than facing a Crutiatus from The Dark Lord.
Terrific as always. I can hardly wait for more.
Fantastic! Is this a case of turnabout being fair game or has something else happened to Hermione? Or, has she moved elsewhere?
Big thank you for Severus' POV. It didn't seem like he could machinate something overnight (as wonderful as he is) to the extent Hermione has built him up in her mind.
They do still seem to seach each other in a different light. He sees what needs fixing and tries to do so, whereas she thinks he's becoming his knight in black armour.
Looking forward to seeing what happens next!
soy tu fan!!!
wow, excellent! I can't wait for the next bit. I hope Hermione is okay!
D'oh!! They are BOTH reluctant to knock on the other's door. Here, let me give them each a good swift kick... Sigh. Poor Severus is trying to be patient, so I will try too. Thank you for the chapter! You succeeded in making me feel Severus' frustration and struggle to get Hermione to open to him.
I wonder what Severus is feeling now that the shoe is on the other foot. What will Hermione's reaction be knowing for certain he had known she sat outside his door?
