Take a headstrong know-it-all and a surly Potions master. Mix thoroughly. Add an accidental discovery, a gift, which is either a blessing or a curse, and top with a unique common trait. Watch out for your cauldron, the combination is explosive!

I'm a 29-year-old from the eastern outskirts of Europe who loves reading, languages, her job and has too much time on her hands for her own good.
Reviews for The Mage
I've been really struggling with this story because Hermione seems unusually dim in it. Now, I know quite a few very intelligent people without an ounce of common sense, so it isn't an untenable characterization, except that it doesn't seem consistent with canon.
That said, I'm really compelled to read every single new chapter, so that's good! High ratings from me, even though I want to shake your Hermione very hard and slap her a few times.
Good gods. How brain-dead could Hermione *be*? Snape's going to be FURIOUS with her.
Cue scary music...Duh,duh, dum! Uh oh, this is not a good thing, very bad indeed. But now we know who Fazeem Norta is. It doesn't bode well that Lucius already has his hands of him and now he has Hermione as well. :(
Well, I started reading ch 13 and realized I had somehow missed ch 12. (I don't know how that happened). The story is taking an interesting, if rather darker twist here. Lucius wants to purchase her? That was an unsettling statement. And Yikes! The confrontation with Draco was unnerving as well. :(
oh wow! More please!
Uh oh... not good! :0
Oh boy is Snape going to be pissed. And eee, what's going to happen next!? God, it was just like a horror movie, with us just one step ahead of Hermione saying NO NO NO don't GO IN THERE!
Sorry, but that's a disgustingly sadistic Snape you're picturing.
I don't grasp why he so enjoys making her miserable.
Why does he make all that effort of being physically abusive? What does he gain? I understand if he ignores/torments others for a reason, like it simplifies his ways, but I just cannot see it here. Will hope to get some insight soon.
To me, Hermione admiring him comes out of the blue here. Wanting him to talk to her as he does to Malfoy is absurd. It seems a given that he despises Malfoy--why would she want to be addressed the same way?
What--now he demands that she gives him some credit?? He deserves a kick in his shins at the least. I hope she delivers a message of that kind. Poppy, too knows how to deal with wounds.
I hope she's allowed to go to the forest with Sprout, but I fear Snape finds the means to prevent just that. And for that I can even imagine a reason.
Please update soon and kick Severus' arse till he behaves!
This was a scary chapter! What does Mr. Malfoy want with Hermione? I don't think it sounds good at all. And then Draco, oh my! That was a very viseral display of anger. Thank Merlin for Peeves! I wish serverus could be just a teensy bit more supportive. *sigh* I'm looking forward to your next installment.
oooh! Cliffhanger. . . And the Dodo is back, yeah. He's so cute. (Though I suppose I wouldn't want one in my home.) It's nice to see that Hermione and Severus have built up a bit of raport, that certainly makes it easier for Hermione to study and learn. I'm excited to see what more comes of Hermione being a middler, what other abilities will show up. And, I'm still waiting to see what Severus' mage type is. An excellent chapter that kept me involoved all the way through. I enjoyed Hermione's leading of Severus, she's got a pretty good understanding of a part of his personality. I'm very much looking forward to the next chapter.

Thank you!I like the Dodo too. I'd keep them in the yard and make him hunt for curious junk ))Next chapter is up, hope you will enjoy it as well.
Wonderful chapter! I love where you are taking this story. Your opening line was priceless. I can really picture Filch ranting and raving about the Dodo. I totally agree that Professor Snape couldn't be so smart without being inquisitive. The two things go hand in hand. Hermione out-Slytherined the Master by acting nonchalant about her affinity to books. She got him hook, line and sniker! I'm so glad that you are going back to that book affinity. It was the first thing that really caught my interest in this very interesting fic, and seemed such a believable reason Hermione always has the answer. Now I'm so curious about Hermione's Mage type. The description of Dodo's nest was very humorous. I will try to wait patiently to learn the identity of Fazeem Noorta and what is happening to him/her. You have me quite worried about how the Malfoy's figure in all of this, but I'm sure Severus and Hermione will prevail against any nefarious plans in play. They will, won't they?
Response from windwings (Author of The Mage)
I think things won't go as smoothly always. She'd out-slytherined him once, but I think it was a big, so far one-time thing on her part. Book affinity will continue figuring heavily )) (I have to pay homage to all the bookworms out there!). The Fazeem Noorta reveal will come up in next chapter. Meaning, in the chapter after the one posted today ))Thank you for your continuous support and thoughtful reviews. I enjoy them immensely!
Well, that was interesting. I like how her powers are shaping.
Response from windwings (Author of The Mage)
Thank you! I hope I have more in stock to surprise you.
Oh wow, what a cliffie. I can't wait for the next bit! Excellent!
Response from windwings (Author of The Mage)
Next bit is up )) hope you'll enjoy it!thank you!
Oh - that is definitely no fair! *grumble... this has been a very good story, so far. Thanks!
Response from windwings (Author of The Mage)
Sorry )) Next chapter doesn't really have a cliffie, promise. Thank you for leaving me a note!
Who the heck is Fazeem Noorta? And how does Severus know him/her? It seems to me like Hermione's mage powers are getting stronger.
Response from windwings (Author of The Mage)
Ah, but you shall find out.. in the next chapter. Though, Severus doesn't know him/her, just to be clear ))And yes, Hermione's been a good little pupil and trained hard.
Hmm....So the Dodo's only been in the castle, which means....Either the quill belongs to or was used by a Malfoy (gift from Bellatrix to Draco, perhaps?), the quill originally belonged to Theodore Nott or his father, or there are other descendants of Death Eaters at the school besides Crabbe & Goyle (they don't strike me as "pretty quill" type people), or it was a gift to Severus from, say, the Dark Lord. What a cliffie. And I've long since thought that Snape's ORIGINAL problem with Hermione is that she hasn't a subtle molecule in her body. Brash, abrasive, forward . . . yes. And for a man whose very livelihood depends on the most subtle of subtle changes, I can see how that would grate on him.
Response from windwings (Author of The Mage)
Oh, your guesses are placed in a good direction ))and yes, I could put my signiture after every word of what you said about Snape's problem with Hermione.Thank you very much for a thoughtful review!
Great update, I really liked this chapter.
Response from windwings (Author of The Mage)
Thank you! I'm very happy to hear it.
So, not only does her gift come with books, but with writing instruments as well. Intriguing. And I assume the quill came from the Malfoys? What has Lucius done with the poor man?
Response from windwings (Author of The Mage)
Well, yes, her gift is quite a bit more inclusive than books )) And Lucius has a very direct interest in it.
I tried anagrams, but nothing came to me! I'll have to wait, then. :)
Response from windwings (Author of The Mage)
Aww, anagrams. Lik I said to another reviewer, I suck at them! So, nope, not them. Fazeem's kind will be revealed next chapter, pwomise!Thank you, Sunny, for continuous support. I appreciate it very much!
I love the dodo's nest. It just fits :)
Response from windwings (Author of The Mage)
Yay! I'm glad you liked it )) I loved writing about it.
What an evil cliffie!I am loving this fic; please update soon, okay?I am sending you spiritual writing biscuits.Hugs, hilaria
Response from windwings (Author of The Mage)
Dear Hilaria! Thank you for the writing biscuits, the Muse swept them off in one go and definitely wanted moar.I'll try and update more often now that summer is over and I'm a bit freer.
“All she does anymore is crawl after it like it’s a giant rat stuffed with catnip! The pantry mice have gone on a rampage! And, Mr. Crackledew... interesting name... hee hee hee.Oh, my gosh, that was perfect visual imagery! LOLI can't wait for your next chapter
Response from windwings (Author of The Mage)
Aww, thanks! Compliments to the visual part flatter me especially. I'm glad you're enjoying this.
Wow! That was really good... left in suspense!
Response from windwings (Author of The Mage)
Thank you!
ooooo!! Intrigue! More please!! I like how Hermione got him to ask her about books... more in that vein would be awesome!
Response from windwings (Author of The Mage)
Thank you! Oh, I'm sure more of this is to come. Snape is a reluctant mentor and Hermione can be sneaky when she needs to.
