Take a headstrong know-it-all and a surly Potions master. Mix thoroughly. Add an accidental discovery, a gift, which is either a blessing or a curse, and top with a unique common trait. Watch out for your cauldron, the combination is explosive!

I'm a 29-year-old from the eastern outskirts of Europe who loves reading, languages, her job and has too much time on her hands for her own good.
Reviews for The Mage
Poor Hermione. Her birth as a Mage was not exactly what anyone expected, except Venla perhaps. I was glad though that the Midwife was able to finally give her kind a name. Middler. One who connects things. And Snape is immediately intrigued by this... does he know something that he's not ready to share?
I enjoyed the tit-for-tat that Venla and Snape traded when he was "blaming" her for how Hermione's birth as a Mage had gone, and she in turn shut him down by pointing that she wasn't the one who kept Hermione away for so long. And finally, just what is Draco Malfoy doing in Gryffindor tower at this time of night?
Thanks for this great update. I hope you're feeling better.

The plot thickens! I am so enjoying this, from the interactions between Hermione and Snape, the character of Venla, and of course the unveiling of Hermione's new powers. And is Draco Malfoy going to be a pawn of his father's, or will he become something altogether different and think for himself? Please update soon, I'm impatient to find out more of what's going on!
Hmm, Sev can't make up his mind. Very interesting.
fascinating update..loved it
more please..Hermione's insight at the end was interesting
Interesting. Mind you, she's always translated and interpreted everything for Harry and Ron, hasn't she? :)
I think you did a great job with Gred and Forge!
This is *amazingly* amazing.
But yes. Anaphylactic shock is bad, m'kay?
oh my! LOL.
This really is a very interesting story. Can't wait for the next chapter.
Grr... not a good place to leave it.
Oh, dear. Poor Hermione. On another note, I'm glad you are feeling better.
Hope you are back to full health. Great chapter. Love Snape's thoughts on the midwife, the old cynic! :)
A very good start to your story, and I can certainly relate
to Hermione's feelings about books. I'm looking forward
to reading more and seeing where you will take it.
I also like your Severus - absolutely in character.
Dear lady, I had no idea that you had been so ill. I am very glad to know that you are feeling much better, and while I look forward to each and every update, I don't want you to push yourself too hard. This story is marvelous, and I don't think anyone would mind waiting a bit longer between updates if that's what you need to do for your health.
Severus was clearly thrown for a loop when Venla told them that Madam Consuelo had died. He does not like surprises. At all.
I think Venla and Hermione will get along nicely, even though Snape thinks she is inept and worthless as a Midwife, but "but it okay."
Now I want to know what happened when Hermione drank the brew and "everything chose to go black at exactly that moment." And I'll bet Severus is wearing a path in the floor of the room next door as he waits for Hermione to reappear.
Thank you for this fabulous chapter... and the intriguing twist with the new Midwife. This is going to be interesting.

Fantastic chapter! I'm so sorry to hear about your recent health issues and I'm glad you are on the mend. It sounds like you had quite an ordeal to go through. I have missed your updates and I'm pleased to hear of your intended schedule. This really is fascinating and I can't wait for the next update. I love your Venla character. I can't wait to learn what happens between her and Hermione and I'm eager to learn more about Professor Snape's particular Mage magic.
Hope you are feeling better soon. Great chapter!
good wishes for a speedy return to full health...
Great chapter, i feel sorry for poor hermione, Snape not answering a single question must be so annoying!!
more please
She's got some studying to do, it looks like. She's right, though, Severus should be a bit more patient. She isn't ignorant because she wants to be. Of course, he wouldn't be Snape if he were patient.

I totally agree. There's truth and value to both of their positions, I think. They just gonna have to work it out between themselves if they want to move along.
Ah, the secrecy.

Aggravating? ))) don't worry it'll be worth it. Hopefully
This story has such great plot, one that I don't think I've ever seen before... and that fact alone makes me squeee with anticipation for each new chapter. I enjoy how Hermione has responded to the news that she is a Mage, and how she vacillates between being cocky and self-assured when she thinks of herself as "someone to be reckoned with" and then becoming meek after she has set herself up for a put-down when she reaches too far and too fast for answers. I like how Severus began her training. He was quick to point out that she has much to learn and learning to follow orders is at the top of the list. But he also pointed out she is a Mage, too, and that her Head of House is not, so there will be things that can she not only not tell Harry and Ron about, she cannot discuss these things with Professor McGonagall either. As time goes on, I imagine that she will come to associate a sense of safety and security with her mentor, and I'll bet there will come a time when she will be thankful that he has placed that tracking nugget on her. Until she has developed better control over her emotions, her magic, and her mouth, I sure she will find herself in iffy situations and need to be "rescued."Who is this Midwife Snape will be taking her to meet? And what does the title Midwife, as a Mage, involve?I wonder if Hermione's attempt to Owl the twins will trigger the tracking nugget. Boy-Oh-Boy, this is going to be fun!I can't wait for the next update!!! BTW. I loved Snape's reference to "How to be a Mage for Dummies." LOL.Beth

Beth, your reviews are always so toughtful and inspiring, it's a treat to me. Thank you very much for reading and support and I hope you'll continue to enjoy the story.
Wow - the most fascinating and original premise that I have read in ages. I am really, really looking forward to the rest of this.

Thank you! I hope you'll enjoy the rest as well.
Oooooo I wonder what kind of Mage he is!
Response from windwings (Author of The Mage)
oh, you'll find out :)) in good time.
okay I just discovered this fine story today and right now I'm wondering what part of don't discuss what her orgin is with everyone does she not understand? I know she is curious and full of questions but she should trust Snape to know what he is doing when it comes to her training. Sometimes I get the feeling Hermione is not as smart as she thinks she is. I know Snape isn't much a conversationalist but good grief I have a feeling she is going to get one heck of a lecture from Snape if he finds out she is going to contact Fred and George about all of this. I look forward to the next chapter and hopefully Hermonie will start to use whats between her ears more. :) *takes a bow and gets off her soap box*
Response from windwings (Author of The Mage)
I think she's smart, but she's also a bit immature, it's normal for her age. She hasn't been muchly needing to act like a real big responsible adult, and she does a lot of looking up to grown-ups, still.I'm very happy you liked the story :)
He's not very forthcoming yet. :)

When was he ever :)
This is a fantastic start, and I really hope you post more soon.
