Take a headstrong know-it-all and a surly Potions master. Mix thoroughly. Add an accidental discovery, a gift, which is either a blessing or a curse, and top with a unique common trait. Watch out for your cauldron, the combination is explosive!

I'm a 29-year-old from the eastern outskirts of Europe who loves reading, languages, her job and has too much time on her hands for her own good.
Reviews for The Mage
Like Hermione, I'm eager to learn more about Mages. It is curious how it is rude to speak about. The Weasley twins as Loki type is brilliant. I can't wait to learn about Severus and Hermione's types.
Response from windwings (Author of The Mage)
Thank you very much for reading and reviewing! I can definitely confirm that all those questions will be adressed. At one point or another :)
Wow, this is bloody brilliant!!!!!!!!! I mean, I've NEVER stumbled upon such an intriguing and promising story (either Mage one or not)! I hope you update quickly because I am hopelessly hoooooooked and addicted and want to know more (esp. Hermione's training with Snape and her meeting/talking with Weasley twins and oh, yes, discovering her type (books, anyone? or more like printed knowledge, maybe....) and her other unique talents....)GREAT JOB!!!!!
Response from browneyes2yu (Reviewer)
Oh, forgot to add, I found your Norse mythology ref. to be very apt, right on!!! It fits simply too well to pass up, doesn't it? Nice one!
Response from windwings (Author of The Mage)
Hee )) your review made me grin like an idiot for a whole morning. And my Muse was so happy, it went off and got drunk and bred plot bunnies like there's no tomorrow. So, here's a big, fat, chocolate thank you.Oh, and I'm a total addict to all things Norse, Norsk, Northern, and everything.
I love this story! I do have a question – and if you've already answered in the story, just ignore me then, lol – is Severus a Mage? There were a few subtle clues that seemed to indicate that he was, but I didn't want to make an assumption only to be disappointed later :( I hope he is, as it seems to be a trend in the fandom that tends to underestimate Snape in a way... either intellectually or by overlooking his strength or, in the cases of magical ability, power. LOL, this sounds like I'm whining, and I really don't mean it that way, I just wish he were allowed to be better than Hermione at something, lol. But, long story short, this is such a wonderful story, and I can't wait until the next update!!
Response from windwings (Author of The Mage)
Aww, thank you! Your reviews are so lovely.Yes, Severus is, though - no, I didn't yet answer it in this story, but I've made it rather obvious. The confirmation will be given in the next chapter :) I agree on a trend. So, Herms's powers will most certainly come with drawbacks and backside of gold coins. Thank you, again, for sticking with me. Next chapter is already in queue.
Hmm... the Weasley twins as Mages - wow, can't wait to find out more.
Response from windwings (Author of The Mage)
Thank you for reading and leaving me a note! New chapter is in queue already :)
That mysteriousness of Albus's is really amazingly annoying.
Response from windwings (Author of The Mage)
Isn't he? :) I hated that about him when I was first reading HP books. Well, trying to keep the infernal old man in character :)
Well, that's an interesting turn of events. Weasley mages. Hah. Loki, totally understandable. I'm sure Herms will do a bit of research before she sees Snape.
Response from windwings (Author of The Mage)
She definitely will, at one point or another. And her first meeting with Snape is up in next chapter! Thank you for reading :)
Wonder what sort of Mage she is? :)
Response from windwings (Author of The Mage)
He, we will definitely find that out, just nor right now :)
This story is so much fun! I adore Hermione's spoken words juxtaposed with her thoughts. She is an amazing young woman who smart enough and has seen enough to know that Dumbledore is not above manipulating any and all who will allow it. Perhaps she will give the Headmaster a run for his money. LOL! The continuing banter between the four "participants" in Dumbledore's office was very entertaining. Minerva didn't have much to say, but then she can hardly get a word in edgewise between Severus and Dumbledore. Even though Severus is not, a priori, looking forward to training Miss Granger, something tells me he is going to at least enjoy some of her training. She will give him a run for his money, too. It's funny to watch her filing away questions and comments to be used when she feels like getting a dig into Snape. Great chapter, and I can't wait for your next update!Beth
Response from windwings (Author of The Mage)
Beth, thank you so, so much for your detailed reviews. They make me ridiculously happy :) I'm just so glad to know someone enjoys my story at this level. Severus has his own qualms where Hermione's training is concerned, and we will soon find out what they are. But yes, I think it will be quite a different experience from what they both are expecting. The next update is already in queue, but I'm afraid it will take some time to go through it.
Very refreshing and so well written! Hope there will be more soon.
Response from windwings (Author of The Mage)
Thank you for reading! The story is already written, so, I'll update regularly :)
So many potential Mages--love the Weasly Loki! This isn't going to be easy, but I'm pleased with the idea that Severus will encourage Hermione to think for herself and not be used has he has been. Brilliant!
Response from windwings (Author of The Mage)
Thank you very much! I'm very happy to hear that you've enjoyed my story so far :) and yes to the Weasley twins! They are my certain favs, after Severus and Hermione, that is, and I still think they were grossly underused in HP books, so I'll try to rectify this :)
Godz, this chapter is fantastic! The tone of the exchanges between Severus and Minerva, Severus and Dumbledore, and finally Dumbledore and Hermione are brilliant. But the thing that blew me away (and made me laugh out loud) was what Hermione thought when the Headmaster pricked her thumb and then triumphantly informed the chit that she was a Mage: "Well, if that was not anticlimactic, Hermione did not know what was."Oh, how I laughed. I could just see the look on her face change from one of fear to one that clearly showed that she wondered "Then WTF was all this whoop-dee-do about?" I am looking forward to eavesdropping on the journey she is about to undertake, and I can't wait to see how Severus handles it, too.Well done! Beth

Awww, thank you so much! Your reviews make my days and make me bug my beta ever so often :)) *iz flattered obscenely*
Oh, so interesting. So Hermione has some kind of special powers or something? Can't wait to see what's next!
Response from windwings (Author of The Mage)
They may be special, but we'll have to see how they present themselves )) This is not going to be a 'Hermione is a witch of great power, which snaps necks with a flick of her fingers' story )))I hopу this sounds intriguing, haha :D

This is so good, I hope for more frequent updates. What an interesting idea about Hermione's magical gift.
Response from windwings (Author of The Mage)
Thank you for reading! I hope to cope with the queue rules, the next chapter's bee in queue for a few days already )
Oh dear. Poor Hermione.
Response from windwings (Author of The Mage)
yes, our girl has quite a few things in store for her.
So,does she already know she's a Mage, or *shudder to think* does she not know exactly what that means?
Response from windwings (Author of The Mage)
So far, to her the Mage is just a synonym to a Wizard. But telling further would be spoilering )) I'll get to it soon!
I was so pleased to read this new chapter. I read it over at Ashwinder, since it posted there first. But since I gave my first review of the story here, I thought I'd stay consistent. Of course we all want to know what a Mage is now! Am I right to believe Severus is also one, since Dumbledore is asking him to train her? He is certainly none to happy about it. I can't wait to read more!
Response from windwings (Author of The Mage)
You belive right :) Some of the Mages concept will be explained in the chapter to come, but I'm hoping to make it quite multilayered and unfold it as we go along. Thank you for sticking with me and letting me know what you think!
I assume a Mage is something more than a Witch. Waiting to find out more! -)
Response from windwings (Author of The Mage)
Well, a Mage is certainly something different ) New chapter has been in queue for a few days already, so the wait should be that long!
Delightful, intriguing and utterly compelling! Quite an original idea. Can't wait to see where you go with it. Of course, anything that brings Hermione together with a reluctant, belligerent Snape is good in my opinion. It's funny how Hermione's biggest fear is getting expelled!
Response from windwings (Author of The Mage)
Thank you! Youre review is very encouraging :) Makes me type away and nudge my beta more :)))
Now that's an evil cliffhanger.
I liked though how this chapter went even if Hermione was still unusually dense, but then I suppose she is still not feeling herself. I can't wait for Snape's reaction - she again disobeyed his main rule!
Very well done as always. I do hope another chapter is up soon :)
Geez, what a carefully orchestrated plan.
Quite a sceme to get hold of Hermione. Dam it!
A certain Potions master will be vivid--once he realises what has happened.
And so we meet Fazeem. Hm, will he learn English or is Hermione up to learning whatever he speaks. Knowing her, I'd say she certainly will make an effort.
You confused the school system: OWLS are after 5th grade, and Sinistra doesn' bother with Astrology, only Astronomy. The same holds definitely true for McGonagall.
Not sure about Vector/Arithmancy. Hm we never learned what this magical branch is about other than that it is complex.
Oh! Creepy! I get the feeling Professor Snape is not going to be happy. Another excellent chapter. I enjoyed Hermione's thought process quite a bit, you did an amazing job of showing her to be very distracted and not at the top of her game at all. I am looking forward to seeing where things go next.
This is seriously bad. I wish Hermione had just stayed in her room and not even gone to breakfast... I'll bet she is wishing that, too.
What a mess!
I'm sure she's in Lucius Malfoy's dungeons, and I'm equally sure that Ron will start looking for her later and go to McGonagall when he can't find her. Perhaps then Severus will be alerted and will go in search for her. Maybe we'll even find out what kind of Mage he is if he finds her and effects a rescue. Earlier I had wondered if he could be a Mender, but now I'm asking myself if he might be a Crafter or a Finder. You have well and truly got me pondering about all things about mages.
If Fazeem Noorta is the one who marked off the weeks since he had been thrust in Malfoy's dungeon, the he has been there for just under four months. Poor child! How frightened he must be! But as frightened as I am for him, I am terrified of what Lucius will try to do to Hermione by making Fazeem take her magic. Lucius is probably hoping to "take" her mage qualities for himself and do away with her at the same time.
Thanks for this amazing chapter!
Beth
Sigh. I really am starting to hope something horribly happens to Pansy and Draco.
