I've been a fan of JK Rowling for a long time, but only turned to fanfiction after DH - read it in one day, cried for three, turned to the internet the day after for more. I favor Severus/ Hermione pairings, especially those with lots of chapters and lovely smut scenes - sex by association, pathetic, isn't it?? I've posted a beta profile, if you'd like to check it out.
In real life I am a single mom living in a small town. Rewarding and boring and the same time. Lucky me ;)
Reviews for A Victorious Draw
A really wonderful story. I find that DH part 1 in the theaters is like salt in the bitter wound of the sad tale of Snape. JKR killed any liking I had for the woman with all the mindless killing off of important characters we had years to become attached to. To hell with her. Thank Merlin for AU fan fiction. My hero still lives and finds a life with Hermione as should have been. I am enjoying your version.I went to the link for the picture but it isn't there anymore. Does it exist anywhere else?

I'm with you, I cried and cried as one after the next was killed in DH. I'm so glad you're enjoying the story! I'm not sure if you can find it anywhere else, I do hope so, it's beautiful.
I really like Ron, it's good to see him try to help his friends.

I've always seen Ron as a good guy, although admittedly, he fumbled around a lot as a teenager. I thought he would grow into being a Weasley :) I was really surprised that so many readers loved Ron being a good guy for a change! Since I've a hard time writing bad characters, I'll admit to being a bit relieved :)
beautiful. I'm so glad something could be done to help george.

I'm so glad you enjoyed the story! Everyone feels the same way about George; I adore the twins!
very good. Poor George. I just watched a movie called The Secret Life of Bees, I listened to the book on CD. There is a character in there, a woman, whose twin sister committed suicide at age 15. After that a piece of her was gone and she was always terribly affected by any sort of bad news until one night something upset her so much that she, too, committed suicide. It sounds bloody awful the way I'm telling it, but it's a great story. It isn't about this character with the twin, she's just one of the elements in it. Anyway, reading this made me think of her.Love the story so far.

I'll be honet. I had no idea I was going to write that; it just popped out when I was writing. But after it was written, it kind of made sense to me, them sharing souls. They certainly always acted like one person in two bodies! The hard part was making it as simple. I don't think I made it simple, but hopefully it's another facet to the story to enjoy :)
Response from mimmom (Reviewer)
I think I will enjoy it. I've always been curious about what it would be like to be a twin or have twins. My children are not twins and are actually 3 years apart but they are probably about as close as two siblings with 3 year spacing can be. They miss each other during the school day.It is an interesting facet to the story and I look forward to more. The line in Secret Life of Bees that keeps coming back to me is "two bodies sharing one soul".
LOL. I'll take the fire, thank you. The frying pan leaves something to be desired.Excellent.
Response from nastygrl (Author of A Victorious Draw)
LOL!! Well, if it's a Severus kind of fire, I'll take it! :)
Ron is so sweet in this. I've rarely seen him portrayed in this way. It's a nice change. I can't wait to see what happens next. I'm off to read the next chapter.

Ron is definitely a good guy in my story. Although I can understand making Ron a bit slow and immature for the sake of getting him out of the way when they are all a bit younger, I don't like "Evil Ron." Thanks so much for reading and taking the time to leave a review :)
Fred's loss was the second most tragic to me; SS is the first obviously. I feel so bad for George, JKR never gave him many lines of dialogue in the books, but he packed a mean right hook in OotP.=D Cheers!

I started crying at Hedwig and didn't stop the entire way through! Hedwig, Fred, Dobby... by the time I got to Severus, I was just a basketcase! It's the only book I've only read once. I just adore the twins, and in my mind, they are still alive :)
THANK YOU! Thank Youuuuuuu!!! for this: 'Ron and Harry and Hermione, they were the Holy Trinity, of sorts.'You did NOT use THE Cliche-That-Must-Not-Be-Named! 20 points to the House of your choice!
Response from nastygrl (Author of A Victorious Draw)
Hahahaha!!!!! Yeah, it gets old, doesn't it? Three separate, but equal parts. Holy Trinity or the Golden Clover, I was contemplating that one, too ;) (just kidding)Glad to see you're continuing to read, and thanks for the comment, it brightened my day!
This is off to a great start. I'm very excited to see where it will take us!Weasley's Wizarding Wheezes isn't much of a joke shop these days if they are selling what is esentially 'military/CIA/FBI' grade intellegence to Aurors and Unspeakables. Just a side note: I really like how you aren't portraying Ron as a slobbering drunk cheater or bad guy, rather you're playing up his strengths.
Response from nastygrl (Author of A Victorious Draw)
Hello and thanks for leaving a review! To be honest, I was never quite sure what a "wheeze" was supposed to be, but I thought they might expand a bit with the war effort, lol. And George wasn't much good with the joke portion now that Fred was gone.I don't like bad-guy Ron in stories. Ron is smart, he has his own strengths, and I liked writing that :) I've received wonderful reviews from readers telling me the same thing, I really appreciate it.
This is a beautiful written story. I like the ones where Ron is shown as he should be in canon rather than the way he's portrayed in the movies. He's more than a single dimensional character and you have rounded him out nicely indeed. If I could give you a higher rating for the entire story, I would.
Response from nastygrl (Author of A Victorious Draw)
Thank you so much for your kind words! There is so little written of what becomes of the three after the war. You know who they marry and the names of their children, but you don't know what kind of adults they become. We'd like to think they are adjusted, but very few people live simple lives. We know Ron isn't above using a little bit of illicit magic now and then, but he's no different than most people, I would suspect. Using the calculator on your phone instead of your brain to figure out the tip in a restaurant, for instance. But that is a far cry from the immature, egotistical and selfish idiot he's often made out to be. I'm happy you appreciate my Ron.I'm very glad you enjoyed the story, and thanks again for your lovely reviews!
And her resignation was on his desk in the morning? I love the way they feel like they're home when they're together.
Response from nastygrl (Author of A Victorious Draw)
I figured Hermione wasted enough time, why waste any more?
Talk about dreams coming true. ^_^
Response from nastygrl (Author of A Victorious Draw)
Yes! And did you follow the link to the drawing? The artist worked on it in the same cafe in Scotland that JK Rowling frequented when she first began writing Harry Potter :)
Response from MsTree (Reviewer)
Yeah I did. I liked both pieces of artwork very much. ^_^
Oooh! I like! Are they going to fix George up? If he was sharing half a soul with Fred, that would explain why he's not quite himself anymore.
Response from nastygrl (Author of A Victorious Draw)
I'm so glad you liked! It was very difficult writing about what was going on with Fred and George. I knew what I wanted to say, but I'm afraid it came off as confusing. I love the Weasley twins, I think they are amazing characters, and I because I felt they were special, I tried to think of what I could do to make them special for the story. Since they are magical twins, and they were a single unit before becoming two, why couldn't they share a bit of each other's soul?
Oh, yes. Please let him find out. ^_^
Response from nastygrl (Author of A Victorious Draw)
Hahaha!! Yes, he finds out :)
Beautiful imagery.
Response from nastygrl (Author of A Victorious Draw)
Thank you for your kind words!
Oh, I love this. Harry, Hermione and Ron together for always even though they're apart. And Severus making her feel like she's home? It's perfect.
Response from nastygrl (Author of A Victorious Draw)
I'm very happy to know you're enjoying the story so far. Yes, I've always envisioned Harry, Ron and Hermione together, no matter what. And you should feel like you're home when you're with the right person; comfortable and relaxed, content and at peace.
Into the fire indeed. I really like where you're taking this story.
Response from nastygrl (Author of A Victorious Draw)
Thanks for your kind words! I'm looking forward to reading what else you have to say :)
Perfect. Ask the right questions to get the answers she didn't know she was looking for. I like very much. ^_^
Response from nastygrl (Author of A Victorious Draw)
Hurray! I always enjoy it when someone comes across one of my stories and reads it all the through, leaving reviews and comments along the way :) I'm so glad you're enjoying it!
Another good chapter. Ron's made his first move. Now the other side has to consider the board and make a move. It's a good chess analogy.
Response from nastygrl (Author of A Victorious Draw)
I was given the prompt for this story a year ago, but was waiting to use it. Of course Ron, Harry and Hermione assumed the same pieces JKR gave them in Book 1, and after reading up on the Bishops' roles, I thought it was perfect for Severus. Thanks for continuing to read!
Wonderful! Another story that showcases Ron's instinctive role as a strategist. I have only seen a few SS/HG fics that show this rather than portraying him as an inept clown who likes to eat. Thank you for this.
Response from nastygrl (Author of A Victorious Draw)
Thank you for your kind review! I was just saying today that I thought Ron was the most under-appreciated character in fan fiction. Everyone is very quick to keep him his 15 yr. old self, never growing up or maturing. I happen to like the idea of him maturing into Arthur and Molly's son. I hope you continue to enjoy the story :)
It's great to see Hermione and Severus realize that they are two parts of the same whole.
Response from nastygrl (Author of A Victorious Draw)
Isn't it? And they don't know it was Ron that moved them in the direction they needed to take ;)Thanks so much for reading and for your kind reviews!
Very nice ending. I'm glad Ron's plan worked out. Funny that Hermione never suspected a thing!
Response from nastygrl (Author of A Victorious Draw)
Thanks for your kind words! It never crossed my mind that Hermione would realize something was afoot, to be honest. I think she was too wrapped up in other matters ;)I hope you enjoyed the story!
talk about a win win situation. thanks for not making ron the usual prat. altho i am a founding member of the abr (anyone but ron) club is is nice to see him nice. i'm glad too that george turned out well. great story. thanks for sharing your time, talent, and vision. mucho mega smoochies!
Response from nastygrl (Author of A Victorious Draw)
Anyone But Ron - brilliant!! I've received many reviews telling me that, while they don't like Ron and Hermione together, they liked that Ron was not the usual bad guy and that it was nice to see him "nice," as you put it. I've a hard time with character bashing, to be honest; I just don't think I could write a bad or nasty character just to bring two others together. And more to the point, I like Ron. Just not with Hermione. I'm glad you mentioned George, as well. I love the twins! Thanks so much for taking the time to read and review my story, your feedback means a lot!Dari
Lovely story. Thanks for giving Ron a strong and supportive role. I really liked that perspective. I never liked Ron and Hermione as a pair outside the books, but I think there is more to him than just a character to be bashed. I look forward to your next adventure. Thanks, JoAnne
Response from nastygrl (Author of A Victorious Draw)
Thank you! While I was writing, I heard, "Ron isn't that mature..." and "Ron is more selfish..." in keeping with his teenage personality. But I like to think we all grow beyond our teenage years and that even though he's a bit lazy in some respects, he can think beyond himself. I liked the idea that he could actually grow and mature and become more like his parents.I never quite believed the romance between Hermione and Ron because we were never shown it, to be honest. We saw a bit of jealousy, but that is in keeping with crushes and first loves and not what makes a relationship work. Thank you for reading along and taking the time to review; your encouragement means a lot :)Dari
Sweet! This is the perfect ending to this masterful chess match. Ron's plan for everyone to come away as a winner came off without a hitch. It was interesting to see the story told through the eyes of a chessmaster.Well done.Beth
