She had changed, long gone was the beloved know-it-all bookworm. T'was nothing more than a memory of what she once was. Her life consumed by darkness, yet ironically she fought for the light. Severus was her saviour, and she was his salvation. Disregard HBP & DH

Reviews for What Lingers In The Dark
Wow, way to leave a cliff hanger! I can't wait to see what happens over the holidays.
Great! Glad it's more uptodate here than on ashwinder. She's going to have to find a way round talking to her father. Poor man - he's lost a wife and child and now his only remaining child is cutting herself off from him.
wow...superb update. thanks so much
I love the story. I like the way you make the characters real, without making them over done. And I like the MalfoyHermioneSnape friendship. Hope to see more!
I love what you've written so far! I read straight through from the beginning... this is a very original plot... I can't wait to see how Severus manages to help her. :)
Welcome back! Great chapter. Enjoyed the civility of Draco and Snape - there are enough stories out there where they are uncivil. It's nice to see Severus behaving like the rational taskmaster he is.
Sure would be nice btw if those memories of Hermione were dropped into Pansy's head.
I think perhaps Draco and Hermione need to find a place where they can have a private talk about what they're going through. I believe it would be most beneficial for them both to have someone to confide in, who understands what it means to live through such a nightmare.
As for Hermione's latest lesson with Professor Snape, good God, what a horrible thing to be trapped in the worst memories of your life, and unable to escape. Good thing Snape was able to be there for her when she finally came out of it. But what will it do to Snape, when he has to somehow teach the same girl who suffers so horribly in his nightmares?
Heaven help them both.
Unsurprisingly, it sounds like Hermione is suffering from an intense case of survivor's guilt in addition to recurrent memories and nightmares of the horrific deaths of her mother and, most especially, her little sister.
It must be incredibly difficult to focus on everyday things like lessons and friendships when you're still wondering how it is you managed to survive when those closest to you weren't so lucky.
I just want to wrap her up in some cotton. Poor Hermione.
It was with this realization that her father gave up and decided to return home, for it was clear that he could do nothing for his precious daughter. That's the worst thing he could do. She already is desperate but now she will fell abandonned by the last memeber of her familly. Who would recover mentally afer such a betrayal. Really men don't understand anything.

haha not to sound sexist, but yes I think *some* men can be a little emotionally stunted. Hermione's father however, I think he was just at a loss how to proceed. He lost just as much as Hermione, and now he has a mentally and physically tortured daughter whom he doesn't know how to help. I feel bad for him! Anyways, thanks for the review and I hope you enjoy the chapters to come! Also, sorry for taking so very long to reply, school tends to make my life crazy lol! :)
What a dark story. After going through something like that, I don't think she can live normally again. Revenge doesn't bring relief, just a bitter feeling of deep regret and ... nothingness. After spending a life to get revenge, when you finally achieve it, what's left to live? I really pity her if she doesn't find someone or something worth living again.
Response from DarkFate (Author of What Lingers In The Dark)
Thank you for the thoughtful review! I hope Hermione can find something to live for rather than feeding off her need for revenge, but who knows? After a tragedy like that, anything can happen with her! I'm so sorry it took me so long to reply, but I certainly appreciate the feedback! :)
this will be a long, hard road. thanks so much for the update. i think you have shown a victim's aftermath quite accurately.
Response from DarkFate (Author of What Lingers In The Dark)
Thanks for reviewing. I'm glad you feel this is an accurate description of Hermione's survival. I tried not to fall into any of the usual cliches and I hope my portrayal of Hermione is realistic. Thanks again for the review!
Hauntingly painful. I really like that you're using Hermione in such a dark contest. It's very unusual, a nice departure for someone who's usually portrayed as having good control over their emotions.
Response from DarkFate (Author of What Lingers In The Dark)
Hi, thank you, I'm glad you like this portrayal of Hermione. Thanks for taking the time to review! :)
Oh dear, what a beginning! Can't wait to read more.

Thanks for reviewing, glad you're enjoying this so far!
Poor thing. How awful it would be to try to recouperate from that. It's no wonder she's talking to no one and hiding away.
Response from DarkFate (Author of What Lingers In The Dark)
thanks for reviewing, and yes I agree, I wouldn't want to talk to anyone either, if I was Hermione.
i think you mean "Death Eaters" . In the last paragraph. You put Seath Eaters. A little typo.I ejoyed the story greatly and look forward to the rest.
Response from DarkFate (Author of What Lingers In The Dark)
Hey, thanks for catching that little typo, it completely slipped my notice! I'm glad you enjoyed this chapter, I hope you like the ones to come as well :)
can't wait to read more.just don't like the short chapters. hehe
Response from DarkFate (Author of What Lingers In The Dark)
Hey, sorry about the short chapters... I'm afraid I can't do much about that though ;) anyways, thanks for reviewing and I'm glad you like it so far!!
Oooh, this is going to be very, very dark, but it seems promising. I hope you won't be making us wait to long to learn more :)Eeek, poor girl.By the way, you misspelled Dolohov and Bellatrix.
Response from DarkFate (Author of What Lingers In The Dark)
Thanks for the review and for the correction, I appreciate both! I'm glad you like this fic so far :)
How long is it between the events of the first paragraph of the story and the 2nd chapter? Alone with Snape? If there was anyone who could create a weapon, it would be him.
Response from DarkFate (Author of What Lingers In The Dark)
Hey, thanks for the review! The first paragraph is from a time in the future... I'm still not sure how many years into the future. The story starts from Hermione's 6th year and will progress well into the future, until Hermione is at least 27 years old. The first paragraph actually is probably when Hermione is about 23-25 years old. And as for Hermione staying alone with Snape during her 'recovery'... that is somewhat irrelevant aside from the fact that she is removed from her friends. Thanks again for taking the time to review :)
Thank you for this new chapter. I am sure this tale will be most interesting to follow.
