She had changed, long gone was the beloved know-it-all bookworm. T'was nothing more than a memory of what she once was. Her life consumed by darkness, yet ironically she fought for the light. Severus was her saviour, and she was his salvation. Disregard HBP & DH

That was an excellent beginning to what I think will be a fantastic story.

Hi! thank you for the lovely review! I'm very pleased to know that this story is being enjoyed (hmm perhaps enjoyed isn't the right word for a darker story...). Anyways, thank you for the encouraging support and I hope you enjoy the chapters to come! :)DarkFate

Wow, this looks really interesting. Hermione is certainly capable of being brutal. She is a very intense person. This seems like a very likely response (for her) to what happened. I look forward to reading more.

Thank you for the lovely review! I'm glad you are finding this interesting so far. Hermione is intense already and the events of her summer forced her to mature far more than anyone should have to...so who knows what's gonna happen with her now! Well, I know....sorta ;)thanks for the encouraging support!DarkFate

That was horrible. To have to watch as your mother and then your innocent little sister are beaten, killed, and other horrible things is too much for anyone to bear. It's a wonder she's not insane. (Or is she?) It sounds more like she's after revenge. It also sounds like she still needs quite a bit of healing.
Response from DarkFate (Author of What Lingers In The Dark)
Thanks for the review! It's true the circumstances certainly are horrible in the extreme, but even our precious hermione can't be sheltered unfortunately. Hermione is basically out for revenge (who wouldn't be!) and I dunno, maybe she is a little bit insane...nothing like Bellatrix though ;) As for healing, that's what our dear Sev is there for!! Thanks again! :)DarkFate

This is one of my favorite stories over on WIKTT. I'm SO glad it's now being posted here. Outstanding. I look forward to reading the rest.
Author's Response: Thank you! If you've read this on WIKTT then you will probably notice that this version is much MUCH cleaner with respect to grammer and punctuation. This site is much more strict with quality of writing, and so it's forced me to get a good beta, hopefully these chapters won't be so painful to read now that most of the grammer has been fixed
Thanks again!

rdholmantx's response:
They weren't that painful over on WIKTT, really. They didn't take away from the story or anything (unlike some things on WIKTT where I think the story is a good idea, but I get to a point where I can't take it any more). But I noticed that Chapter 1 was cleaned up, I'm totally stoked about re-reading it, and I can't wait for the next chapter.
A horrible, yet promising start. Thank you!

Man, how heart breaking. I can't begin to imagine how Hermione feels. I can understand how she would want to do something to take back control of her life and get revenge for her mom and sister. Looking forward to the next chapter.

Great chapter, as always.

Go Hermione. Kill them all! Oh. Did I say that out loud?

Have I ever mentioned that I positively abhor Albus Dumbledore? Sure, it's all well and good to have guards AFTER your whole family has been slaughtered...

Aw yeah. Please don't have her crap out on me and go all "anger's not the way." I hate it when there's a good revenge story in the making and then the person who deserves to get their revenge goes all gooey.

This really is one of my favorite stories, still. I'm re-reading it again.
I want you to promise that before this story ends, Lucius Malfoy will meet a painful, humiliating and loooonged for, death! No easy Avada Kedavra to end him, I want limb for limb pulled from his body, I want him twisting in the combined pain and terror he has inflicted upon his victems!
Poor Draco. So, what did Narcissa do to make Malfoy kill her? Shocking. Interesting chapter, things are never what they seem, are they.
Poor Draco. Not only having his mother murdered the same as Hermione's, but being stuck living with the SOB of a father who did it? And if Lucius had no compunction about killing his wife, the mother of his child, then he probably wouldn't think twice about killing his own son should Draco displease him. Somehow I think pretending his father isn't a murdering bastard is going to work for long.
Knowing the kind of person Lucius is, I wonder if Tonks and her mum have any suspicions that something is fishy about Narcissa's death? I think it would be good for Draco to get to know them, considering they're his family too.
BTW, is Hermione aware that Voldemort apparently didn't sanction this particular attack? I wonder what Voldemort's reaction would be for that matter... Sure, Hermione is an obvious target for being close to Harry, but finding out that most of his inner circle followed Lucius' lead and are dying right and left because of it... I doubt Voldemort would be terribly pleased with the results of Lucius' actions.
Certainly when she's done, she'll be the most formidable witch of her age.

well, I hope so! Thanks for taking the time to review! :)
Looks like a long and lucrative case for a psychotherapist. She even can't stand being touched by a woman, for heavens sake! I can fully understand her feelings, although I am not sure whether this revenge she is planning will improve her condition.
Response from DarkFate (Author of What Lingers In The Dark)
heh, I'm sure a psychologist would have a field day with Hermione as a client! Thanks for reviewing though, it's good to know that there are people who are enjoying my story :)
and who could blame her. love the relation between hermione and harry. they've always stuck together more than ron. wonderful update. thanks so much
Response from DarkFate (Author of What Lingers In The Dark)
Hi! thanks for the lovely review! I'm glad you like the Harry-Hermione interaction. I always felt that they connected on a more emotional level, and I rather like thinking of them as siblings. Thanks again for reviewing!
Thank you so much for the update! I like that Hermione will take her own revenge, it removes her from the victem category and into a warrior who will make her offenders feel some of the pain and horror they inflicted on her!!!
Response from DarkFate (Author of What Lingers In The Dark)
Thanks so much for the lovely review! I do like the idea of Hermione being warrior-like rather than becoming weaker from the tragedy. Besides, Hermione's always been fierce, now she will be even more so! :)
I'm glad she's still responding to Harry. I feel for Hermione. It would be horrible to be unable to help your loved ones and keep them from harm. It seems very like Hermione to internalize her feelings until she could do something about them.
Response from DarkFate (Author of What Lingers In The Dark)
Thanks for reviewing! I always felt that Hermione would be the sort of person who would cope with a tragedy by suppressing her feelings/emotions, not that that's a good way to cope, but it seems like something she would do. I do hope this will bring Hermione and Harry closer as friends though. I always thought of them as siblings in all things expect by blood :) thanks again for the lovely review!

Excellent chapter, mate. I can't wait til this gets caught up from WIKTT. This story is fantastic.
Author's Response: Hey! Thanks so much for the review! I'm glad to see that people who read my story on other sites are still reading it here. You may notice several changes from the WIKTT version of this story to the one posted here. That is mainly because I now have an excellent beta, and I've reworked the story quite a bit. Keep an eye out for the 2 extra chapters I've added to this version! :) Thanks again for reviewing, and I'm glad you like it so much!
i think you show the tummult of emotions from such an experience very accurately. great update. thanks and smoochies
