Hiya. I'm tonksinger, mostly former author. I don't expect I'll be writing any more fanfiction, but I invite you to enjoy the stories posted here.

Well, I hope Severus at least gives as good as he gets.I'm firmly of the opinion that any Slytherin worth his or her salt recognises that you can . . . exploit the tendency of people to behave in ways they would not normally for sex. Especially for good sex. You needn't practice this yourself to know it's true, you simply need to know of the *existence* of the Muggle Jerry Springer show.(. . . you KNOW I'm right . . .)

True.

Oh lovely. Just what a Muggleborn needs. The attention and patronage of *lots* of Death Eaters. *facedesk*
Response from tonksinger (Author of Rare, Dangerous, and Unusual)
Death Eaters? I guess Severus was a Death Eater.

Let me guess, he tried to buy her out? Or force her out of business?Really, I'm surprised she didn't at least *consider* that . . .
Response from tonksinger (Author of Rare, Dangerous, and Unusual)
Consider going out of business? Or consider that he would try to do so?

Mayhap she ought to take up Occlumency first?

Have you got that evil Skeeter's dialect down! I could hear her voice in my head. Who was the secret guest at the opening was it suppose to be Ron? What a jerk suggesting that Hermione can't win! Talk about betrayal of a friendship. Can you tell I am a little ticed off with him right now?I just hope Severus seizes this opportunity to become the knight in shinning armour we all know he's dying to be. Good update.

Thank you! I went over the pieces she writes in the canon to get a sense of her style, which is very fun to write. Er... yeah, sure, the guest was Ron. I kind of forgot about that bit... hehe. Thank you!

OMG OMG He's helped her. He gathered her in his arms (well gathered is probably a bit too much since she threw herself in his arms) and he put an extra ward on her shop. That is clear: HE CARES ABOUT HER. Sorry for the shouting but I'm so happy. And I shall wait the next chapter very impatiently.
Response from tonksinger (Author of Rare, Dangerous, and Unusual)
Thank you! By all means, shout away, preferably from a rooftop where loads of people can hear you. I'll get seven up ASAP! Thank you!

Oh yeah! The next chapter should be VERY interesting. But comments for this chapter: I loved it. I feel really bad for Hermione, but I'm sure she'll pull through and stupid Ron doubting Hermione's ability to succeed. Great job! Keep up the wonderful work!~Jen

"Keep your enemies close, he thought as he made his way down to Flourish and Blotts." Severus is a student of Sun-tzu, and I am not the least surprised. When the fool Ron Weasley told Severus that Hermione should just give up for once in her life, the Potions Master cut his legs from under him: “Forgive me for not being entirely convinced that you care about Miss Granger’s well-being, given recent events.”It was good to see all of Hermione's regular customers urge her not to give up, that they would remain her customers.I had to chuckle at Severus as he tried to decide if he should care what happened to Hermione. He told himself that the reason he should care was that she was an attractive young woman whom he knew lusted after him... that the streets were not exactly teeming with women who fit that description... It was reasonable, then, for him to at least have a passing interest in her well-being. What he did not credit with as much weight is that he loves the mental sparing they engage in as much as the thought of taking her to bed. While I was not surprised that Hermione would have some problems after the articles in the Daily Prophet, I was totally flabbergasted at the amount of destruction she found when she reopened her shop. Severus' initial reaction to her crying on his chest was completely in character, but I was pleased that he finally wrapped his arms around her and held her... even if he could think of nothing to say. (He is not the total snark he wants people to think he is.)The scene that totally stole my heart was when Hermione realized that Severus was aroused and before he could say anything she told him, “Professor, I don’t know what you’ll think of me for this, but… I need someone to not hate me for a night. And after all, it was your suggestion.”To his credit he stumbled on his words before he acquiesced to her request. But when she told him that it didn't have to go beyond that night, he came to the decision that tomorrow… would be tomorrow. And he was damned if he was going to go home and wank off like some pimply teenager when there was a much more pleasant alternative rubbing her hand over his chest. When Hermione was placing her wards on the door to her shop, he silently added a ward of his own design that he was sure would hold up against anyone but a wizard of comparable power. See? He cares! Then she Apparated them to her home. She needs to feel like someone gives a damn about her, but what Severus doesn't realize is that he needs the same thing jsut as much. This is turning into a lovely tale– at least for this chapter, and I hope it is an indication of things to come.Have I told you how much I adore your story? I do! I do! I do!Beth

I think that is a very good advice. The best he could give her. Especially if it's with him.... *grin*

This was a cute story. You were able to keep Snape's character, and I liked the way you showed his thought process. Nice work!
Response from tonksinger (Author of Rare, Dangerous, and Unusual)
Thank you!
Hermione surprised Snape with her "silly wand waving," and he surprised her with his defensive maneuvering. At least she got a slightly more sincere apology.Snape did make a lot of sense when he told Hermione that that he thought Weasley had called off the wedding because he had felt inferior to her.
And Snape found her to be "quite a sexual visual." I had to laugh when he gave her his parting advice, “I recommend you--what is the colloquialism?--‘go and get laid.’ It will help. Trust me.” I'll be interested to find out what he thought about “Crime and Punishment.” Good chapter! I'll be waiting for your next update!Beth
Response from tonksinger (Author of Rare, Dangerous, and Unusual)
Perhaps he'll surprise her with a bit of wand waving later... Thank you!

I like the beginning of the story! Ron was such clod for waiting until Hermione was standing at the alter to send an effing note that he wasn't going to marry her. She is lucky to be rid of him.Snape was his usual snarky self, and he is sure to come back for more reading material... and perhaps to have another go at teasing her to tears... he did appreciate her shoppe and its collection of rare books...I wonder who the "small, watery-eyed man" was who bought a book. Had he been there when Snape was there?I'm looking forward to the next chapter!Beth

Thank you! The "small, watery eyed man" was just a mousy little guy who was squeezed so far in the back that Severus didn't see him. Juts a little wizard nerd.

Does that mean he didnt appreciate her Crime & Punishment selection? Or was he speaking about what he would like to do???

When she hands him the book at the end of the chapter? I was not certain if he took it or not??

She should have pretended to misunderstand and accepted the offer...Now my darling teenage kids gave me Crime and Punishment for my birthday last year, along with Tolstoy. Not sure what they were trying to tell me, haven't read them yet, but they look pretty on the bookshelf.
