Magical Me:
Hiya. I'm tonksinger, mostly former author. I don't expect I'll be writing any more fanfiction, but I invite you to enjoy the stories posted here.
Reviews for Rare, Dangerous, and Unusual
What a great ending! I've thoroughly enjoyed each and every chapter of this story. I'm of two minds about it--on the one hand, I regret not having found this one until today. On the other, I'm glad I was able to read it all in one go without having to wait between chapters. Instant gratification! And Hermione got to be a part of Flourish and Blott's after all, but on her terms. Excellent!I'll definitely be on the lookout for more stories from you!
Response from tonksinger (Author of Rare, Dangerous, and Unusual)
Thank you very much for reading, reviewing, and enjoying! More is on the way, and feel free to read my older stuff as well. I've got a bunch of one-shots and shorter multi-chapter stories to fill your time!
Hagrid sunbathing naked is a scary thought! So is Umbridge sunbathing naked... I'm pretty sure either one would have the desired effect of deflating certain areas. And now fedora-boy has been bagged. I'm glad that Hermione was able to keep Severus from taking control of the revenge; she's right, it needs to come from her so that it doesn't look like she can't do anything without turning to some powerful man for assistance. Otherwise, she'll never be taken seriously. Can't wait to see what her terms are for not having Flourish committed to Azkaban...
Response from tonksinger (Author of Rare, Dangerous, and Unusual)
I didn't want Severus, the original Mr. Protective and Possessive, to overshadow Hermione. This is, after all, her fight, and she needs to handle it.
This chapter just abounds with great lines! My two favorites:"You have three seconds to be somewhere else, or I will turn your nose inside out."and,Only Snape's silky voice could make 'celebrate' sound like 'have a ten-hour orgy.'And then the kiss! Excellent revenge on Rita...I don't know how she'll handle having written something true for a change. She might go into self-imposed retirement over the trauma of it all. Flying to the next chapter!
Response from tonksinger (Author of Rare, Dangerous, and Unusual)
I like this definition of "celebrate". Gives parties a whole new spice. One-liners are my hobby.
Oh dear--I smell a set up... I have a creepy feeling there's going to be another Skeeter article in the next day's Daily Prophet insinuating a tawdry affair between Hermione and Severus Snape. If they're lucky. On the other hand, if that's what they're being accused of, they might as well have the fun of actually doing it, right? Right! And now they have a working spell... so hopefully if damage control is needed, it can be done swiftly and mercilessly. Sev's remark about choosing sides made a shiver go up my spine...if Flourish isn't even a little concerned about the enemy he's just made, then he's not especially bright.
Response from tonksinger (Author of Rare, Dangerous, and Unusual)
Flourish isn't quite so dumb as to not be worried--he's just too damn arrogant to show it much.
Getting the house-elves to help was a stroke of genius--I'll bet fedora-boy wasn't expecting Hermione's shop to be open for business again quite so soon! Bwahaha! And I loved Sev's internal dialogue regarding sex with Hermione: It had not been the most awkward afternoon of sex Severus had ever had, but it was probably a close third. Priceless. And then he's plotting to see if she'll need more "comforting" in a couple of days! Apparently awkwardness is not a deal-breaker... And now the partnership is begun! Watch out, Flourish and Blotts--your days are numbered.
Response from tonksinger (Author of Rare, Dangerous, and Unusual)
When Severus and Hermione start working together, the world had better look out.
Whew, I have to fan myself after that chapter! Very nice! Despite the hotness of the sex, I'm glad (in a perverse "this is realistic" sort of way) that on the whole the encounter was awkward and stilted--Hermione's just not the sort of girl who can place her emotions on hold and enter into sex like it's a business transaction, even though that's what she asked Severus for in the first place. On the other hand, she probably feels (with some justification) that if she had asked for more than that, he would have declined.Sev's finding her bra in the couch was hilarious! At least it wasn't a vibrator...I don't think Hermione could have survived that embarrassment! On to the next chapter!
Response from tonksinger (Author of Rare, Dangerous, and Unusual)
It bugs me when there is no awkwardness after a one-night stand in fic--or worse, when there's true love. Having random sex, even with a complete stranger who you will never see again, is a little awkward. Having it with your former professor/student must be twenty times worse. Thank you for all your reviews!
Aww, it would have served ol' Flourish right if the negative press had the unintended effect of sending people to Hermione's bookstore in droves, just to see what all the fuss was about! I'm interested to find out just how he or his paid flunkies managed to get past Hermione's "Mad-Eye Approved" wards to trash the place. Nefarious things afoot, yes...I must fly to the next chapter! Things are getting real interesting!
Response from tonksinger (Author of Rare, Dangerous, and Unusual)
Mad-Eye approved, but not bad-guy proof, I'm afraid.
Eccentric or Evil-centric, huh? Well, if there's going to be a propaganda war of words starting, my money's on Hermione--especially if she can get Severus to help her dig up some dirt on ol' fedora-boy. That's the kind of crap Skeeter would write, and if she's taking money from Flourish Jr. she'll be lucky if getting put in a jar again is all that happens to her! Ah, all that building sexual tension... love it! Who will break first? Hmm...
Response from tonksinger (Author of Rare, Dangerous, and Unusual)
Rita Skeeter is too much fun to write. I have this guilty suspiscion that she and Severus would actually have good chemistry--they're both so enamored of ripping the world to shreds with words.
And somewhere around firewhisky number three, Snape had become very attractive. Wow, I didn't realize it was possible to both laugh and cringe simultaneously! I felt so terrible for Hermione, and yet was snorting into my drink as I continued to read her digging herself deeper into what was shaping up to be a very deep pit... Now the question is--just how much of this will she remember the next morning? And how will she react if she does remember?Hope she manages to put Flourish and Blotts out of business, so that she can offer fedora-boy a menial job in her bookstore!
Response from tonksinger (Author of Rare, Dangerous, and Unusual)
I love embarassing humor. Too much of The Office and Gilmore Girls. Those are TV shows that do awkward so perfectly.
Uh oh, a drunk Hermione is a force to be reckoned with! I hope she's not about to proposition poor ol' Sev right there in the Three Broomsticks... that could get embarrassing real quick! I suspect either a buyout attempt or some heavy-handed Mob-style threats from the junior Mr. Flourish, but I'll just have to pop on over to the next chapter to see...
Response from tonksinger (Author of Rare, Dangerous, and Unusual)
He might make her an offer he doesn't think she'll refuse...
What a fun second chapter! I especially liked Severus' line: As I was saying, Weasley, who is thicker than a brick sandwich That was poetry. And then he just had to have the last word and suggest that she get laid! I might say "glass houses", but for all I know he gets plenty of opportunities now that the War is over! Still, things can't help but get even more interesting...Crime and Punishment seems like it should be right up Sev's alley, and I can't wait to see how he responds to it.
Response from tonksinger (Author of Rare, Dangerous, and Unusual)
I admit: I stole the brick sandwich line from Terry Pratchett. Brilliant, hilarious author. And I love C&P.
Ron broke things off at the altar by way of a note? That's beyond cold! Personally, I'm thinking Hermione should save the gelding for ickle Ronniekins and keep Severus intact--she might need that later! Liked the description of the bookstore...I'd always envisioned one like that if I were going to have one...small, out-of-the-way, with unexpected finds unavailable anywhere else. Oh, and serving tea in a tiny little reading area with a fireplace.I don't know why I haven't read this earlier, but now that I've found it I'm off to the next chapter!
Response from tonksinger (Author of Rare, Dangerous, and Unusual)
I think he envisions the gelding as well, and decided a note was the safer option. A number of reviewers have commented that I overdid the Weasleys a bit and I agree with them, but it works for this story. I modeled the store after a place in San Francisco-- Forever After Books. Floor-to-ceiling, wall-to-wall shelves, all packed full, all used. It's wonderful. Enjoy!
Yeh, an update! Boo, the story's finished! All kidding aside, I've enjoyed your clever plot and hope you'll start another story soon.
Response from tonksinger (Author of Rare, Dangerous, and Unusual)
Thank you for reading! Sorry it's over. But I'm hoping to start another story soon, and there's already something in the queue.
Thank you for this wonderful story with the hawt ending! Very citrusy, and much appreciated. This story has been a joy to follow, and watching Severus and Hermione outwit the creep who had tried to put her out of business was pure fun!Thank you! Beth
Response from tonksinger (Author of Rare, Dangerous, and Unusual)
No, thank you! Your reviews have been wonderful and thoughtful all the way through, which I appreciate very much. I'm glad you enjoyed this!
Oh I enjoyed this. Severus blindsided by his own emotions. I do enjoy this sort of thing. I can't wait to read what happens next!
Response from tonksinger (Author of Rare, Dangerous, and Unusual)
Thank you! I hope you enjoy the rest of the (complete!!) story!
That was an excellent last chapter. *huge grin*
Response from tonksinger (Author of Rare, Dangerous, and Unusual)
Thank you!
Lovely! Positively lovely, dear. Your Severus is a right bastard, which takes some getting used to after all these Dashing Romantic Hero versions I've been seeing around, but he shapes up all right in the end. I fully endorse Right Bastard over the DRHs any day of the week. Plus, Bookstore!Hermione makes me happy. Even if I take issue with protagonists having fantastic sex with simultaneous orgasms every time (how often does this happen to you?), I still like your smut. And the plotty bits were neat as well. Really, good show.
Response from tonksinger (Author of Rare, Dangerous, and Unusual)
Thank you! DRH Snape bugs me as well, especially since his nastiness is most of the fun. Yeah, the smut at the end was a bit of an apology for there not being any for six (?) chapters. It's very fanon!smut, and I'm glad you liked it anyway. Bloody wish it happened to me ;).
yay! a happy ending all arround. thanks so much
Response from tonksinger (Author of Rare, Dangerous, and Unusual)
I felt a happy ending was needed here. Thank you!
Good ending--great lemons!
Response from tonksinger (Author of Rare, Dangerous, and Unusual)
Thank you! Lemons are always fun!
Yes, very fortunate indeed!!! Great chapter, great story! Thank you very much!!!
Response from tonksinger (Author of Rare, Dangerous, and Unusual)
Thank you very much for the review!
I bet the job description will contain other... personal duties! ;)
Response from tonksinger (Author of Rare, Dangerous, and Unusual)
It's quite probable... ;) Thanks!
geeez, that was freaking hot! brain has lost pretty much all cognitive functioning. am looking forward to being able to reread the whole thing now that it is complete. :Doh, yeah, it was very funny, too. but seriously - hot! *fans self vigorously*
Response from tonksinger (Author of Rare, Dangerous, and Unusual)
Thanks! I'm glad it's done and that you liked it enough to reread it! Had to end it with some hot smut ;)
Glad your back, I've missed this story.
Response from tonksinger (Author of Rare, Dangerous, and Unusual)
Thanks! It's nice to have people welcoming me back.
Thump. Such a lovely sound, don't you agree?I was very surprised to see that Tiburos Flourish was the culprit! I'm so glad that he was the "doer of evil deeds"and not some hired henchman... it made it all the sweeter when he was revealed!!!I think Severus' plans for the morning fit right in with the my idea of how things should progress: "...waiting for Hermione to return so they could cast the spell, kill whomever it summoned, and then go to her flat and fuck her into the mattress." LOL!!!Hermione's revenge upon Flourish must be some kind of doozie! And it didn't hurt that Severus did his wizarding equivalent of priming the shotgun!I'm so glad to read this new chapter! It's a great story, and I can't wait to see what's in store for the criminal! And I definitely want to see what's in store for Severus and Hermione! Thanks for the update,Beth
Response from tonksinger (Author of Rare, Dangerous, and Unusual)
Thanks for the lovely, comprehensive review, as always. Yeah, I decided that Flourish would be a bigger surprise than some henchman. Evil things are in store for him, don't worry!
Slytherin Hermione has pocked her nose or is this Severus "tainting" her that makes her outline the plan, which seems very wicked considering Flourish's reaction.Anyway, I'm very glad for this review, as I was just telling myself a day or two ago that it had been a while. The same happened for another story I'm reading, so maybe if I think very hard, I might get a certain black and snarling wizard in my bed tonight *concentrate very hard and wish...*PS : "Hagrid sunbathing nude [...] With oil! Rubbing it all over himself! " !this one was priceless *gigles*
Response from tonksinger (Author of Rare, Dangerous, and Unusual)
Thank you very much. Evil things are definitely in store for Flourish.
