Reviews for The Varlet
And it is now officially a murder mystery. Good job. ^_^
Response from Doomspark (Author of The Varlet)
I do love my mysteries! Stay tuned!
oh no! Poor Remus! :(Excellent story so far. I want to read more so please keep going! :)
Response from Doomspark (Author of The Varlet)
It's funny - I like Remus as a character, but it's far too easy to kill him off in some horrible way. I'll have to write a Remus-centric fic one of these days as penance.
Very good. I love that Hermione is back at Hogwarts. I NEVER thought Ron and Hermione should be together. It makes ZERO sense. It's like it was just convenient for the epilogue to have the trio all wrapped up in a neat package or something.
Response from Doomspark (Author of The Varlet)
Well... I ignore canon after GoF as a rule - I really did not like the last three books at all. And the less said about "the epilogue that should be deleted", the better!I'm glad you're enjoying my tale.

I'm okay with the last books but there were some really annoying bits and things left hanging in the end.I'm in the process of reading book 7 to my daughter. The last few chapters are SOOO painful. The loss of Fred always catches me off guard and I'm always surprised at just how SAD I feel when I read that bit.It annoys me that the deaths of Tonks and Lupin are glossed over except to mention that they're lying on the floor in the great hall as if asleep. I had to go back and read it again because I wasn't completely sure they really WERE dead! UGH.
Response from Doomspark (Author of The Varlet)
The off-handed way the death of Lupin was handled in DH is one of the (assorted) reasons why I didn't like that book. Of course, I didn't like books 5 and 6 either...
This is great - a mystery with Severus and Hermione and detectives, Hogwarts after the war, Hermione getting back on her feet, the wizarding world still working out its cross cultural issues, and a slowly developing Hermione and Severus relationship that could go anywhere or nowhere - I love it!
Response from Doomspark (Author of The Varlet)
I do love mysteries and puzzles. I hope my tale continues to please.
The plot thickens! It's so sad that Snape couldn't accept that Remus was as much a victim in the Shrieking Shack tunnel incident as he was. Sirius was attempting to use his friend as a murder weapon! Now, who would want Remus dead that badly? Down on his luck and living in a poverty-stricken neighborhood, it doesn't seem like he could be much of a danger to anyone, especially taking the Wolfsbane regularly. Is there someone out there holding a grudge? They're a nasty bit of work killing him in such a slow and ebilitating manner!~Sits back to patiently wait for chapter 5.~

*whistles innocently*
Wow! I'd love to go furniture and housegoods shopping in the Hogwarts' treasure troves! Filch is going to be quite handy in dealing with the twins. I can just tell. Rather sneaky but very effective way of getting them to cooperate with the furniture choosing!
I'm liking Liana already and Lavender has definitely grown up. Hermione needs some friends in her new home and these two look like excellent possibilities. Liana, with her frank and open manner, is just what Hermione needs!
The autuopsy is a most unpleasant necessity. I am glad to see Severus will be handling it. If anything is to be found, he'll find it!
WHAT A GREAT STORY. I HAD NOT READ IT BEFORE SINCE I GET MOST OF MY READING FROM UPDATES, FEATURED, ETC., AND MY FAVORITE AUTHORS. YOU ARE ON MY FAV.LIST BUT I HAD NOT READ IT SINCE IT WAS SO LONG BETWEEN UPDATES AND I AM READING A LOT OF CONTINUED STORIES THAT ARE UPDATED EVERY FEW WEEKS/MONTHS, BUT THIS STORY HAS ME HOOKED NOW! THANK YOU. JIM
P.S. ON TO THE RON BASHING, COULDN'T HAPPEN TO A NICER GUY.JIM
Love the Hogwarts vaults at Gringotts!
So Snape and Filch are related, eh? That makes a great deal of sense considering Snape often went to Filch for help or had Filch take his detentions. I suspect Filch would be a staunch and very useful ally. He certainly has the right idea about what to expect from the boys! Renus' death by chronic argent poisoning certainly brings up some interesting questions. A mystery for them to solve? I can't wait for Mr. Ollivander to perform his magic and make junior wands for the boys! Fascinating prophecy from Professor Trelawney. I shall look forward to the twins claiming their throne!
Oooooh, I do love some Ron-bashing and he's been an absolute prick here! Excellent beginning. I'm so glad Snape has come to her rescue. The unexplained color difference of the individual lights is intriguing. After all Hermione has been through, it's lovely to see her fall asleep dreaming of Hogwarts' library books and explaining the wizarding world to her young boys!
I have a feeling that Ron or his SO are in on this...
To be notified about an update to this magnificient story was like getting a message telling me Christmas came early this year. So, Remus were murdered, by who and why? One of my first thougths were Ron or his new wife (totally into Ron-bashing) in a strange attempt to hide the truth about Ron abondining his firstborn children, stealing Hermiones money etc etc. But, as much as I despise Ron, I must admit that murder of Remus just are a bit to much. Besides, Ron would have done something rash and thougthless, this murder shows planning and patience. Not Greyback either, that would have been a figth, not silver-poisioning. Not any death eaters, they would have used curses I think. My strongest suspision at the moment is the Ministry in some crazy, secret, attemt to erradict werewolves for good. The Ministry would have had the money and the time to do it this way, but if that is the caee, other werewolves would have died too, or be dying? I am very much looking forward to the solving of this puzzle. It makes me a bit sad is that Severus and Remus missed out on a friendship that would have done them both a whole lot of good due to stubberness and misunderstandings, but hopefully this will make Severus even more open to grab oppertunities to a brigther and friendlier future when it present it self. I think my oppinion of Ron is quite clear, a morron who doesnt deserve anything to do with Hermiones two sons, but should be publicly exposed along with his lawyer on how they stole Hermiones money and did their best to rob two children of their future. I don't think Harry deserves any nice reputation either, he migth be married to Ron sister but that doesn't give him free rains to close his eyes to such unjustice and crime comitted to Hermione who has been his most faithful friend for years.¨To not make a stand against what Ron did is the same as agreeing with what was done. Again, thank you so much for the update, this story is at the top on my favourite fanfics list, getting a update really made my day.

What a wonderful review! I do apologize for the delay in responding. I'm glad you're enjoying my tale. You've made some good points about who / why Remus was murdered. Of course, I shall neither confirm nor deny anything. I'll just say "Stay tuned".
A number of mysteries! I'm intrigued by the prophecy and the twins, very much looking forward to what happens there. And the Filch-Snape connection and Lupin himself all raise queries. You have laid the background for a very interesting story.
Interesting start. I like that you've went for a scheming Ron rather than simple idiot Ron, much more fun! It sounds like a plausible thing to happen in the wizarding world. I'm disappointed in Harry for not helping more! Looking forward to the next few chapters, I see some are posted :)
One small niggle, why is the babysitter paid in euro rather than sterling if H lives in London?
Response from Doomspark (Author of The Varlet)
I plead guilty on the niggle - I have no Brit-picker, and I'm a clueless American. I'll fix it in the near future.
Response from Tilly (Reviewer)
Thank you, and sorry to be so picky! It's a very small thing in an otherwise great fic.
And the plot thickens... :)
Response from Doomspark (Author of The Varlet)
Yup! Glad you're enjoying my tale!
Very interesting revelations about Snapey, Filch, and Lupin all being childhood friends; I wonder if they stayed friends after Lupin became a lycanthrope but before Hogwarts. With Art and Tom exposed to magic every day at the school, I hope their magic manifests soon. But I don't want Ron to have any ability to gain custody of them, even if it means Ron never pays for child support; Hermione and the boys are fine without him.I'm impressed that Poppy and SSHG found out so soon just how the silver entered Lupin's bloodstream and clothing. Did Lupin have wards on his home that only admitted certain people? Fingers crossed.Thank you for the new chapter!! And I hope you have a wonderful birthday this weekend!
Response from Doomspark (Author of The Varlet)
Glad you're enjoying my tale! Your reviews are always a pleasure - full of speculations, questions and all the things that make an author happy. Thank you for the birthday wishes!1. You'll find out more about the past in a future chapter.2. Ron will get what's coming to him, never fear.3. Lupin's wards would have collapsed when he died, but there might still be traces available. The hunt begins!
Oh my... who did that to poor Remus?
Response from Doomspark (Author of The Varlet)
Good question!
oohhh nooo, Trelawney needs to shut up with her prophesies! LOL. It sounds pretty okay, but who can tell what might go wrong. Anyway, I can't wait to find out how Ron takes the news that the twins are not squibs!Fun story!
Response from Doomspark (Author of The Varlet)
*grin* Prophecies can be fun, can't they? I hope you continue to read and enjoy my little story.

Fun story!
I'm enjoying the story so far. Oooh, that Ron Weasley! I can't wait to see what happens.
What a great story so far - I like the mystery angle. And I can't wait for Ron to get his comeuppance!
I'm so glad you've updated this story. When reading it again I started remembering the story already after a few lines, which is quite impressive after more than a year.
It's nice you are continuing this story and I hope you'll manage to update soon, since the whole mystery is just starting to unfold itself.
excellent update. i just love seeing things clicking into place. thanks and mucho smoochies

Amazing that Lavender has turned out to be fairly decent. As apprentice to Trelawney, does she keep track of Trelawney's prophecies -- or did that scrap of parchment from last chapter get lost?I have confidence in Severus and Poppy doing the autopsy on Lupin. Very mysterious death. Who notified Harry and Ron? I am not looking forward to seeing Ron at Hogwarts with the kids there. Thanks for the new chapter!!
Response from Doomspark (Author of The Varlet)
The piece of parchment landed on the floor, so Lavender isn't aware of it.
Response from June W (Reviewer)
Will anyone find the piece of parchmen, or is that just for us readers?
Lovin it even if Snape is a bit too nice.
