Ooooo. I like how you've started! Looking foward to reading more!!I like Ron on principle, but I can definately see him as an unmitigated ass - which is what he certainly is here. So, more? Soon? :D
Response from Doomspark (Author of The Varlet)
*grin* This is my "Ron is an ass" story. Give me a day or three to work through the next chapter - it's being stubborn.

I know how stubborn goes - good luck with it!

Sybil has gone and done it again!
Very good. I can't wait to see what happens next!

A new chapter for your reading pleasure.
Muahaha! And Ron is closer to getting what he truly deserves. But what's this about rigged marriage contracts for the Parkinsons and Malfoys? I would hope that post-Voldemort Lucius would be smart enough to pick up on fine print, but perhaps if he trusted the solicitor, he'd be taken in. And why didn't old Ryan have the solicitor marry his granddaughter from the start? Sigh...Very glad Hermione now has sole custody of her boys, since the twins will be seen in Hogsmeade with their Child Wands. But what is this terrible assumption that Hermione remembered in the last chapter? More, please! Thank you for updating!!
Response from Doomspark (Author of The Varlet)
I love your reviews. They make me smirk and say "Wait and see!" I solemnly swear that I am up to no... sorry. ...that I am working on the next chapter. As for the terrible assumption: look at the chapter title, and then the last lines of this chapter.
Why do I get the feeling that Ron's wife is connected to Remus's death? I would write more about my theory, but I don't want to possibly spoil the story.
Response from Doomspark (Author of The Varlet)
Feel free to speculate. I shall carefully neither confirm nor deny anything you say.

Ron's wife, Maureen, was infatuated with Ron when he was still with Hermione. She told her patriarch that she wanted Ron. The patriarch set things in motion to make that happen. The first step is getting Hermione's son declared Squibs so Maureen can get Ron. So once Hermione is out the picture, the patriarch has to start tying up loose ends, in this case, Remus. However, Remus's death can't happen quickly because people would get suspicious. So a scheme is created and implemented where Remus just appears to be in poor health, slowly declining until he finally dies. The patriarch assumes that the death would not be looked at closely since werewolves don't live good lives due to prejudices in the Wizarding World. That my theory thus far. I know the lawyer is connected. I am also pretty sure that Remus was just an unlucky pawn since I doubt he would intentional hurt Hermione.
Response from Doomspark (Author of The Varlet)
Remus would never deliberately hurt a friend, that's true. As for the rest... wait and see, wait and see.
Okay, so at first I was thinking "what a bitch!" about Ron's second wife's actions, but then with Hermione's reaction I see that it is the best thing for Hermione and Ron is probably going to be super pissed when he finds out his kids arent squibs and what his wife did, so that made me happy! The boys having wands is probably going to be great also. Oh and poor Remus getting killed by some wiley woman!
Response from Doomspark (Author of The Varlet)
Ron's going to have a rather bad time in the near future. Tom and Art are going to learn how to use their wands. And I shall neither confirm nor deny anything about Remus' murder.
Terrific tale. I love a good yarn with plenty of plot twists! Thanks for writing!
So just who's the varlet here? Ron or Max? aybe both? I'm glad that the new Mrs Weasley accidently helped Hermione. It would serve her right if everything came back to bite her one day. ^_^
Response from Doomspark (Author of The Varlet)
Varlet is one of those words with multple meanings, which is part of the reason I chose it as a title. I'm glad you're enjoying my tale.
Response from MsTree (Reviewer)
Dearie, I enjoy all your stories. *grin* By the way, when are you going to finish Catspaws? ^_^
The new Mrs Weasley is unwittingly in Hermione's corner in this. Well, she's firmly in her own corner, I suppose! I almost feel sorry for Ron.I said ALMOST! :)
Response from Doomspark (Author of The Varlet)
Yes, Ron's life is going to become interesting in the next few months. I'm glad you're enjoying my story.
This is a great story--I'm so glad you're updating it so regularly. You've got two mysteries going here, now--Remus's murder and whatever's going on with Maxwell Sebastian and Pat Ryan. Why do I think it's likely that the two will turn out to be related? And I like your very in-character Hermione--not interested in any of Ron's money, but merely glad that he's renounced her sons, so he can't take them from her. But she's still entitled to her share of their Gringott's account, isn't she? I should think that the moment her sons begin using their new wands successfully, Snape and McGonnagal would strongly advise her to press charges. And, come to think of it, she should get a few Galleons from the QuickQuotes, people, shouldn't she? What a very engaging and original story you've set up here!
Response from Doomspark (Author of The Varlet)
Thank you for a lovely review! Of course, I shall neither confirm nor deny anything. I hope you continue to enjoy my tale.
I think Hermione may really be onto something. And I have my suspicions as to who might be responsible, perhaps even a glimmer of a motive. But it would involve her having access to certain privileged information. At any rate, I'm totally fascinated with this story. :)
Response from Doomspark (Author of The Varlet)
Do tell! I love it when my reviewers speculate! Of course, I shall neither confirm nor deny anything.
This is a very interesting story. I was immediately drawn in. Ron's wife gets on my nerves, but I love the divorce plan that will make Ron look stupid. It's about time he caught a dose of his own medicine.I don't really like Harry contacting Ron about Hermione at all. Why can't he ever just choose her side? Can't wait to see what happens next.
Response from Doomspark (Author of The Varlet)
I'm glad you're enjoying my tale, and I hope it continues to please. Thanks for reviewing!
Thank you so much for another great update. It seems to me that when Ron don't dig his own grave, his new wife is doing it so greatly for him, that would be poetic justice in my mind. First he discharge his own children like they were worthless, stealing Hermiones money in the process, now his wife, who had is precious magical children seems to be his soon-to-be ex-wife and in the process made sure that he can no make any claims to Hermiones children when he finds they can have any worth to him after all. As cold, manipulative and scheeming his wife, her advocate and Grandfather seems to be, Ron gets what he deserves, and plenty of it. Does Hermione have a special Woman in mind, or is it just speculation made to not limit their search for Remus killer?
Response from Doomspark (Author of The Varlet)
I'm glad you're enjoying my tale. As I recall, you still owe me some cartwheels. *grin*

Perhaps I'm terribly rude, but when will you update your story? It's wonderful and I can't wait for next chapters. :)))My English is still very invalid, so I'm sorry for every mistake I've done. It's my first review here. I hope, I don't offend you. Please, I want read more. Update quickly!
Response from Doomspark (Author of The Varlet)
I hope to be updating this week. Thank you for reviewing - I'm very glad that you like my story.
Wow, what a mystery we have going here. A very clever way to kill a werewolf. Luckily Severus, Hermione, and Poppy are more clever.
Response from Doomspark (Author of The Varlet)
I do love mysteries. Stay tuned!

Response from Doomspark (Author of The Varlet)
*glomp-hugs!* How ya been, SW?Glad you're enjoying the story.
I started reading this today, and am really pleased I did. Interesting idea for killing off Remus, and I look forward to seeing where this leads. I can see a fair amount of Ron-bashing in the offing too, even if he doesn't turn into a major villain.(I'll just add a little nit-Brit-pickery to the fact that not only do we not add silver nitrate to the drinking water over here, but even minor spillages into the foul water drains have to be reported to the local water authorities to determine if the supply needs quarantining and flushing - otherwise, a great plot idea)
Response from Doomspark (Author of The Varlet)
Hmm - I could've sworn I read it on Wikipedia...
Response from Doomspark (Author of The Varlet)
Hit "submit" too soon. I'm glad you're enjoying my tale. Perhaps this clueless American should get a Brit-picker so that kind of thing doesn't happen again.
Response from DawnEB (Reviewer)
I'm sure most of us over here are as clueless about what does and doesn't go in our water :D
THIS IS GREAT I WENT ALL OVER THE NET TRYING TO FIND MORE OF THIS STORY ONE PLACE HAD 1 CHAP I WAS OUTRAGED AND I CAME HERE FEELING MUCH BETTER NOW,LOL With Art and Tom exposed to magic every day at the school, I hope their magic manifests soon. But I don't want Ron to have any ability to gain custody of them, even if it means Ron never pays for child support; Hermione and the boys are fine without him.I CANT STAND RON! WHEN HE LEFT THEM IN THE WOODS IN THE LAST BOOK I KNOW HE WAS WEAK. WRITE SOOM LOL.
Response from Doomspark (Author of The Varlet)
Glad you're enjoying the story - I'm guessing that you found it on Ashwinder. I'm slowly getting all my stories archived everywhere - it just takes a while.
Ooooh, good story, murder mystery, maybe a budding romance, and I can't wait until Hermione rakes Ron over the coals!
Response from Doomspark (Author of The Varlet)
I do love my mysteries. Hope you continue to enjoy my story.
