Hermione is forced to lead a double life when she agrees to Dumbledore's plan to protect Professor Snape. Inspired by the Marriage Law. Warning for student/teacher relationship, though Hermione is of age.

Reviews for Second Life
<listen to those impulses, Severus, follow your heart...> Oops, until the Dark Lord KILLS you for it, that is!
Ah. I love those 'just-can't-help-myself kind of scenes. I always have to take a break after a chapter like that and let it sink in.
Okay, it's sunk. Happily going back to read more!
Gah! The Angst demon runs hot and heavy here! Love the way they interact, and that they each want to protect the other. *sigh*
*whimpers*
:(
This story was just exceptional and really realistic. I really liked how you showed how very, very manipulative and Slytherin Dumbledore was in the whole HP saga. Your Severus and Hermione were very in character as well.
Really loved it!

I liked his chapter very much. It seems like a Short Story in its own right. Thank you!
Wait, wait, where does the second Deluminator come from? I think,I have to read the last chapters again, must have been missing something. But thank you very much for the otherwise wonderful retelling.

It's just one of those things I made up. :) Thank you very much for reading and reviewing!
I finallly started to read this story - and am totally hooked. You really have written a page-turner here.
I simply love it how you let your story run along so close to canon. To even have Hermione point Lavender towards Ron. Brilliant.
So lovely, what a wonderful ending. I loved it all. It did everything a good love story should- made me laugh and cry and feel everything the characters did. Great Job! Keep writing- you have a gift.

Thank You! This is best fanfic, centering on Snape and Hermione, I think I have ever read. Many have come close yet what set your story apart was how you depicted the characters as they would have acted--with humanity. My favorite part was post-voldemort when Snape and Hermoine were struggling to find comfort and love, in a world that didn't need them anymore. Bravo. I hope you will keep writing. Thank You, again for giving me what JKR couldn't.
Respectfully,
Natalie
wonderful chapter, can't wait to read the rest.
It is very sexy when a man can dance especially a waltz.
Beautiful, Severus is a wonderful lover and Hermoine is as always a good student.
I love how this story is winding along, I find my self unable to stop reading. well done
wow. this story stole my heart. you are a wonderful writer and your caracterizations are just ...truly amazing. Ithank you for putting out into the world such a great story and i'm glad I stumbled upon it. I don't think i could ever forget this story, and this will be the real version of my book 7. (soooo much more plausible than JKR"s) I can't wait to see oter stories by you!
Nice start. I'm intrested to see more!
I really can't even tell you how much I am loving this story
As much as I loved DH, This is what I feel like it should have been I feel like I am one of the fortunate ones to be in on the true story
Thank you. God I hope the quality stays high through out.

The Christmas box! Things have now come full circle!
The end? Aww...
(Good news for you: no more review spam, lol.)
Throughout my reading of this tale, I was consistently amazed by the realism of your human actions and interactions, even in the midst of a most unrealistic setting of a wizarding war and its aftermath. The characterizations were balanced and as true to canon as they could be, even with an AU-premise. To me, it all could have happened. It is, in short, a masterpiece.
Sincerely, Kristen
P.S. The charmed wedding rings just might be my favorite of your inventions here. They were amazingly useful and just so darn cool.
The shit hath hitteth the fan...eth. At this point in my reading I am extremely grateful that this is a completed work, as I have not been able to stop reading it. Also, I have enjoyed and appreciated your take on canon events, and so far your vision of what might have occurred after the battle makes loads of sense. The press, the politics, and the overwhelming sense of "now what?" are logical outcomes of a major society-upending war, as is the tension between Severus and Hermione.
Ah, so it was HER patronus that changed! Brilliant!
Neither of the boys questioned why she needed to speak with the Headmaster either...curious...
"And why are you so sure of that, Severus? Are you one of the ugly things she cares for?” <---I could have bitch-slapped him for that. ajsdfhasdfhk.
I think this was my favorite chapter yet.
For an informational chapter, it sure did have me on an emotional up and down. I do hope Minerva sees in the end this time!
And oh boy, is Hermione gonna get it! lol
Yay, Phineas Nigellus! For a minor character (and a portrait at that), he is one of my favorites. The whole concept of magical portraiture in general fascinates me, and the concept of opening a communication line by occupying two portrait spaces simultaneously is neat. Hermione's thoughts during the wedding vows warmed my heart and I confess to shedding a tear or two at such a touching moment. Beautiful!Funny, for all of Dumbledore's meddling and my complaints against such, if it wasn't for him, my favorite couple would not be married at this moment in time. Should I thank him, or you? lol

Good God, Kallonista! You've gotten way ahead of me! Forgive my slowness in answering!!!I'm glad you that you are as interested in portraiture as I am as the portraits play such a large part in this story. In fact, part of the genesis of this particular fic was a picture I saw of Snape and Hermione in the tent with Phineas Nigellus looking on, and I thought about him and what role he might have had as a go between... and here we are. And yes, Dumbledore... I feel the same. I believe he knew what he was doing. And yet... I want to wring his neck. Thank you for reading and reviewing! xoxoLariope

Sorry about the review spam! I've been virtually glued to the computer working on final papers and such. I've been distracting myself every so often with your story, and I couldn't let a chapter go by without a review. I am enjoying this ever so much more than history research papers lol.
He may have"taught her to hit fast, to hit hard, to hit first", but she taught him how to love and that, just maybe, he has something to live for after the war (I hope). So Mad-Eye still had to die, huh? I can't say I didn't see it coming. Sorry to see that the Death Eaters got his body though. It makes for a good believable story, but he, as a dedicated warrior against the dark, deserved better. But life isn't fair, is it?

Yes, I knew you knew that Moody was going to go. I was sorry to do it. But I tried to keep canon facts as strongly as I could throughout. I found I really enjoyed writing Moody and his role in Hermione's life, though, and I hated to let him go.And I think you have the measure of Snape and Hermione here quite well. :) Thank you so much for reading and reviewing!
Oh Moody...I suspect that he dies before the marriage records can be hidden/secured...I like this Moody better than the cartoon put forth in canon. Actually, I find that all of your characters here are more fleshed out and human than canon. I forget sometimes that, supposedly being children's books, they have childlike typecasting. Here, everyone has shades of grey, and that is the way it should be.

Thank you so much for your kind words about characterization. I think JKR walked a fine line between children's and adult's literature, and that she did it well, but she had a massive story to tell and was already pushing the boundaries of the "size" of a book most kids are willing to tackle. I think the great pleasure of fanfic is exploring who these people might have been outside of the "Harry lens."Thank you for reading and for your thought provoking reviews!
