Companion piece to "Traitor." If you sell your soul for freedom, what would you willingly give for redemption?

Right. I would like to state, for the record, that I WILL finish "She Married Her Choice". I will. Assuming I am in control of my own destiny and accomplishments, that is. ;-)
Unfortunately, real life (mainly an attention craving three-year-old) and inspiration have been keeping me from creative endeavors for a while now. I do foresee a time when that shall pass, but until then, I ask for your patience.
Thank you!
Reviews for Closure
I can't believe of all the times I've read this, I never reviewed! Traitor either, for that matter. This story never fails to bring me to tears. I remember when I finished traitor I was stunned, and horrified, and utterly speechless, but I found the ending to be perfect and satisfying, albeit sad. So, when closure came out, I was so worried it would ruin traitor for me, but I couldn't have been more wrong. The writing is fantastic, the emotions stunning, the characters spot on ... Every thing perfect. I could almost feel myself forgiving Snape right along with her. And the best thing is that although he had to die, he did so knowing he'd made peace with her, and she got what she needed to move on and live her life. These two stories are high on my list of all time best stories.
The story is quite satisfactory in portraying the dilemma betwwen Severus / Hermione.
I'd love to see an aletnative, more elaborate ending where Snape got pardoned, Hermione and Severus have to face one another, as well as their conflicting emotion.
Just read through Traitor and then this... amazing work. I was definitely crying by the end, but I loved the story.
Great fic but the only problem is i dont believe in killing innocent children. i dont believe in abortion other than that i will give you 9 cookies out of 10
Oh dear. No happy end. A bit depressing but of course there could not have been. Sigh.
I read this all again, Traitor too. And it is still my favorite SS/HG fic out there (and I don't really LIKE SS/HG fic!!). This is one of my top 10 favorite ff stories of all time.
gut wrenching. So sad. So very sad.You are such a wonderful writer!
I just read Traitor straight through and then this, and there are tears in my eyes. I'm searching for words but I'm not finding them. Just, this touched me.
I've just read "Traitor" and left a review, saying how hard it was to keep on reading, because I wasn't sure to bear the squicky parts. Well, let me tell you that I had to get up from the computer and distract myself with some mundane chores, to stop crying after reading this epilogue. Girl, if you're not in professional writing, you surely should! You're gifted. Amazing stories.
I've read Traitor and Closure before and really loved them both. Don't think I reviewed. The best part was Snape keeping Hermione guessing. He had to keep her off balance, but in the end she knew. I think this story (I think of them as one) is a very fine piece of writing. I'm a little surprised that you've allowed beasweasley2 to use so much of your material in her story, The Self-Writing Parchment. Whether that story is better or worse than this, is irrelevant to this discussion*, but I'm interested in why an author would allow it. And why an author would want it, because just knowing that so much was borrowed makes me prejudiced against the new story.
* ok, irrelevant, but so far, I prefer this story. Although I couldn't remember the exact name/author, I DID recognize elements of your story when I was reading Parchment.
okay. this make me cry a little.
oh snapey!

*hands you a tissue*
Thanks!
Good closure for us, too. I believed Snape to be helping Hermione--if in a horrid way. You did a great job of exposing the truth and setting them free!
Response from averygoodun (Author of Closure)
Thanks. I found that, although it didn't fit within "Traitor", I needed to write it.
Yes. Perfect. Absolutely perfect.
Thank you.
Response from averygoodun (Author of Closure)
Thank you!
And I thought that 'Traitor' had me reeling!
While a happy ending for Hermione and Severus would have been nice, I can see that it really wouldn't have fitted in at all.
Hard to read, but well written. You certainly know how to strike into the hearts of your readers!
Now I'm in serious need of some fluff...
Response from averygoodun (Author of Closure)
Well, I guess I should have said this wasn't graphic, rather than not brutal. *wry gryn*
No, a happy ending was not in the cards for Severus and Hermione. Or rather, this was as happy an ending as they could get.
Thank you! Hope you found the needed fluff!
Great portrayal of Ron here. I always enjoy when he comes into his own and is mature about things.
Response from averygoodun (Author of Closure)
Thank you! I think Ron gets treated horribly by our section of the fandom, really, but what are we to do?
Cheers!
Gee, I was hoping for a happier ending for Severus. I know he was a bad guy, but he did help her escape.....all well I always have a soft spot for that character. I think it was a good story, even if your beta's didn't agree. I think as an author you just sometime have to tell a story. I have one I'm working one it's been eating at my soul for ages, but I'm waiting for the kids to return to school before I really get into it. I imagine you have similiar feelings for this one.
Response from averygoodun (Author of Closure)
Southern didn't think it was a bad story, she just didn't like how I ended it. She has a soft spot for Severus as well.
As for wanting a happier ending... well, yes, it would have been nice, but even if he wasn't a bad guy (which is debateable), he was a killer and had used at least two confirmed Unforgiveables.
Thanks, and good luck on your story!
*BOO HOO HOO HOO**sniff, sniffle*Sorry, just got caught up in the moment there.WOW. Stunning epilogue to a magnificent story. Thanks for wrapping that up.
Response from averygoodun (Author of Closure)
LOL. Thank you for the heartfelt review. I'm glad you liked it.
Cheers!
Heart-wrenching, and I loved every line of it. It fits the story very much. I wonder if Ron suspects Severus to have got closure as well.
Response from averygoodun (Author of Closure)
Thank you! I think Ron does suspect that. :-)
I was bracing myself for the inevitable "unhappy ending", but I really wasn't that upset by it. Ron was amazing, the scene between SS/HG touching and bittersweet, and even the outcome of the trial makes sense. Kudos to you for beating on logic over sentimentality, I felt closure on this series too. *scampers off to read old SS/HG standbys*
Response from averygoodun (Author of Closure)
Thanks! I'm glad (and relieved) you liked it as I wrote it more for my own closure than anything. :-)
(Shiv's stories are always mood lifters for me.)
Response from wsanders (Reviewer)
Yep Shiv's stories are always fun. Her exchange fic sounds like it'll be another classic.
I can't believe I forgot to beg for a SMHC update, so ahm yea please
Response from averygoodun (Author of Closure)
It does, doesn't it?
As for SMHC... I'm still working on it, albeit slowly. Painfully slowly. I cannot promise a quick update, unfortunately.
I read Traitor and couldn't help by finish up with Closure. Excellent story and very well written. In a way, I'm glad Peter was redeemed. I still feel sad about Snape's situation. <3 Thank you again for the wonderful stories :)
Oh I could just CRY! For lots of reasons! For an update. For the sadness. For the beauty. So well done, again. I'm so glad the "plot bunnies" got to you. But I am always torn between wanting more and knowing what Snape's future would realistically be. This is still one of my very favorite stories that I recommend to everyone, even those of us not fond of SS/HG ships. Thanks again.
Response from averygoodun (Author of Closure)
Thank you! *hugs*
Well, my heart just broke.
Thank you, anyway. That was the epilogue I needed.
Response from averygoodun (Author of Closure)
Sorry for the broken heart, but it was how it needed to end. Thank you for reading it!
Powerful, beautiful, perfect. You are a gifted writer. You can feel the pure emotion that both characters still have for each other. Hermione's ordeal didn't end when she made it back home, and the baby was a painful reminder that there are always consequences to your actions. It seemed to me that Hermione wanted to really hurt Snape with the knowledge of the baby, but she didn't get any true satisfaction from it. I was glad to see that, it meant she is not controlled by her hate and that gives me hope for her future. It is truly harder to forgive yourself than to forgive someone else. It was beautiful to see how much being forgiven meant to Snape. Although Snape seems to have found some peace because Hermione forgave him, willingly giving yourself to death isn't really forgiving yourself. I suppose it was enough for him. This really was closure for your story. Thank you.
Response from averygoodun (Author of Closure)
Thank you! You're right that Hermione did want to hurt Snape, but she didn't get satisfaction from it. She, unlike Snape, had a loving support system to fall back on to recover, so, although she needed to forgive Snape to really move on, she didn't sink as far as he had from the damage. She retained her compassion.
As for Snape, he did find peace from her forgiveness, because he knew that meant she would be okay, and, at that point, that was all that mattered to him. He really didn't want her to end up like him. He didn't exactly willingly give himself to death, but was resigned to suffer the consequences of his actions.
Your reviews were constantly insightful and precious. Thank you so much.
Am on the verge of tears, v well done. I found Traitor an extremely difficult, painful & almost unbearable read, and thus couldn't bring myself to leave a review for it. This epilogue really was redemptive, am so glad you wrote it!
Response from averygoodun (Author of Closure)
Frankly, I'm glad you found Traitor hard to read, as that was how it was meant to be. But I found the story woulnd't leave me alone until I wrote this because, as much as it might be sneered upon, I like a moral tale.
Thank you!
