After the events in the Department of Mysteries, Hermione finds it hard to cope and receives help from someone unexpected. When a friendship of a sort develops, will it survive the events of the Lightning-Struck Tower? Will an ancient ritual help the Light win the war or will it destroy everything? An HG/SS romance. Not DH compliant.

I am an almost 30 year old single mom of five year old precocious Mini-Shal and our cat called 'Katze' (cat in English, lol). In between full-time jobs at a temping agency, babysitters getting Izzy to and from Kindergarten and lots family and financial problems and housework of course, I am once again working on fanfics after a long hiatus to keep sane.
Though I have been writing fanfiction for various fandoms for the past fourteen years none of them made it on the Net because of a series of misfortunes involving six more or less functioning computers.
I haven't been a Harry Potter fan either until March 2006 when after watching Goblet of Fire I was so confused I just had to read the books. My best friend HoneyB was very mean throughout and didn't want to tell me any spoilers thus getting her revenge when I didn't want to listen to her enthusing about Harry Potter all those years. ;)
The HG/SS pairing struck me as very sick at first because as hot as Alan Rickman is, he is over sixty years old! But resistance was futile and I was won over by one of the silliest and most funny parodies I have read so far which was incidently my first HP fanfic and is sadly enough only available in German. Though for anyone fluent in that language I can heartily recommend to Google Coldmirror and her parody of the first movie 'HP und ein Stein'.
So since then I have been happily writing away whenever I have the time and get seriously annoyed when yet another plot bunny bites me in the leg and doesn't want to fit into my current story! %)

Great intervention on Severus's part - I loved how he brought it out of her and it was good when he said that he was aware of everything. Good job.
I think that when she felt someone's presence he was watching her - he knows that whatever she is experincing is tied to what happen to her at the Dept of Mysteries. He found her again because he knew she would break down again and he was watching to make sure no one got hurt.
Severus was eavesdropping on the boys - but I wonder why - why he did that and why he is helping her - maybe she reminds him of him when he was young? cannot wait for more
Great chapter- I loved this version of Severus and was shocked that she destroyed the library with her anger - Severus is right - she does need an outlet.
The whole scene in the attic is good - he knows that she is about to explode without an outlet and he is giving her one. I cannot believe he asks her what she thinks about him - that is a whole can of worms by itself.
Severus is so showing her another side to her personality - it must be kind of funny for him to see he deer caught in headlights reaction. Fencing - now this is interesting.
Severus staying for dinner is a rare thing... the whole way she got the door to open was funny. I would have loved to see Ron with the handprint - a definite need considering he always is lashing out at the ones closest to him for anything and everything that he is jealous about....LOL.
Great chapter - I am glad she slapped him - Ron has had it coming for a long time. Severus speaking when he did was great - what he said was good and she needed to hear it.
Well - I loved the way you wrote the scene - Dumbledore always knows everything and is plotting 24/7 is he not? I loved the moment when even though he insulted her at least he took the time to notice that she was not sleeping and he gave her the candies to sleep with - good idea.
Great chapter - I love how she decided to do it anyway. It was great how Severus just turned and looked at her when at the door. Without either saying a word, she knew he knew and he knew she knew. Good writing.

This story is absolutely intriguing, I love it! Please keep up the awesome work!
Well, if I ever thought that there was a sexier description of Severous Snape than his black regency coat and pantaloons with *all those buttons* I think you gave it to us in this chapter. I can just see him in the beechwood fencing garb and <fans self furiously> oh, be still my heart!
I was a member of the Scott AFB fencing team (ladies foil and epee) for two and a half years in the early 80's and then picked up the sport again in 1992 in Oklahoma City for a while (at least until my dominant side shoulder got utterly trashed from an accident at work). I really miss doing it. Actually, Severus' teaching technique is a lot like that of my first coach. I did manage to get a silver medal from a double elimination novice tourney--foil, non-electronic scoring and 28 women competing. By the time of the final bout my opponent and I didn't care which of us won, we both just wanted the bout over so we could go ahead and collapse.
I giggled over Severus' hesitation before mentioning the plastron. It reminded me of a competition where it was our referee's first time officiating. Back then, rather than a plastron we had aluminum discs that went into interior pockets of the jacket. He blushed furiously and stuttered so badly when he asked if we had our breast protectors, my friend Carol took pity on him and said, "We call them frisbees, John."
I am enjoying reading this story very much. I have no problems with emotional!Hermione at all. Honestly, that was one thing I had a problem with in the original books, JKR never showed Hermione having any psychological issues over the traumatic events that she ended up involved in.
If you want reasssurance as to how well written this story is, I think I can give it to you by telling you that it is now 2:10 a.m. and I was completely unable to stop reading until I got to the end of what you've got posted so far. Again, this is a wonderful story with fabulous characterizations and superb character development.
Thanks for sharing your story with me (and others)

Another good chapter. I don't know what I can say. Just superb.
Another good chapter.
Another good chapter. I like the thought process you put Hermione through. I do wonder what Snape wants, but I think it might be, at least in part, romantic in nature.
Very good chapter. In light of DH, very believable also. I like your writing style.
What is Snape on about? What does Hermione think of him? Outrageous. I must continue.
This is wonderful - I love these sorts of fics, the deeper intricacies of the minds of the characters. Bookmarked! :D
Yay for more Wicked! I do like the points Snape makes about his teaching methods, even if I think Hermione's right that he shouldn't expect it to be the best way to go about teaching everyone.
I like this story a lot--please update soon!
Good chapter, and no, I wasn't expecting high tea. Fencing? Hmm... now I'm intrigued.
