I'm a 26-year-old Accounts Payable manager for a construction company. Basically, I'm paid to write checks and intimidate the menfolk around here. I live with my boyfriend and our dog. I wasn't sucked into the HP fandom until just after the release of HBP. So, I'm a newbie compared to most of the fans out there. I've written in several other fandoms (under different pennames) - Anita Blake, Buffy, X-Files, etc.

oh did not see that coming, ya know i was thinking his father maybe but his mother ohhhhhhh i loved it , new one for me. You know i cried at this chapter (again). It made me cry but warmed my heart and the way you had Sev, my god it touched me. ..sooooo perfectOh my heart is beating like mad right now * thump, thump* perfect!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!..I hope he does not get mad since she left like that though.

I'm glad you liked the chapter so much! And to answer the question - no, he won't get mad at her. He actually depends on her pretty heavily in the next chapter when something unexpected happens.

Yes, lemons very soon. Snape is still in for a bit of a rough ride with his mother. Hermione decides to comfort.
What a wonderful chapter. I thought it was great that it was Severus' mother and found it incredibly touching that he was working all that time for a potion to cure her. I hope she continues to recover and that maybe she can play matchmaker.

Hm, hunch confirmed -- at least partly. When Severus was discovered to be visiting a Muggle hospital in the last chapter, I suspected that it might be one of his parents whom he was going to see -- although for some reason, I thought it was his father and not his mother. Even though canon Severus is clearly of a resentful disposition and inclined to hold grudges for a looooooong time, family ties can be very hard to cut off completely -- even the most painful ones. I'm enjoying this story a great deal, and I'm curious to see what happens next...especially now that Severus and Hermione's friendship appears to be taking a promising turn.

I think by Chapter 12 most people were thinking it was one of his parents. I'm kind of happy that many of those people thought it was his father. I actually decided on his mother because I haven't seen it done a great deal. Most of the fics that involve his mother are pre-HBP, and portray her as a rich, socially elite woman. A great deal of people discounted Eileen and wrote her off as dead after HBP. I also wanted to put a twist on Severus' father. Most people write his as an overbearing, cruel, mean-spirted man who abused his son and wife. I needed to make him the enemy, but I wanted to give him a reason other than just being mean for the sake of it. So, I made him into some sort of religious crazy who believes that magic is the devil's work. This would explain why Eileen never told him about her status as a witch and why he wouldn't allow magic to heal her. But his father will come into play more in the next chapter. I'm getting ahead of myself. :-)

boy talk about flight at the worst moment. what were his thoughts after she disappeared. i bet its a bit of time before they go to sleep.

Ooh, very nice! That's a very good explanation for why he was under time constraints, why she was in a Muggle hospital, why he cried a lot in his first year at Hogwarts, and perhaps even explains why he might've been tempted to become a Death Eater - if Voldy had promised to cure his mother, etc. Excellent! But he sure has a lot of explaining to do to his mother about his Death Eater days and spy days... Looking forward to the next chapter!

Just what happened to Hermione's Gryffindor spirit? She had her hands on him, almost naked and close enough to lick, and he was touching her, but she goes home 
*sigh* You manage to write great UST.At this rate Snape will need to invest in some of the Weasley's Wildfire Whizzbangs to spell it out across the sky for her before she gets the idea. 
Loving this. Hermione and Severus show just enough hints of their earlier (canon) selves in the way you have developed the characters to suit your story.

Glad you enjoyed the chapter! I'm not done with the sexual tension, though it will be resolved in the next chapter when Snape turns to her for comfort.

I love this story so much, I don't care if the lemons never come. This storyline is terrific.I hope the mystery patient is Dumbledore. I have happy ending-itis. Waiting for your next update!

So why doesn't she go back to the hospital and look for the patient's name on the medical records? Harry would lend her his Invisibiity Cloak, she could do a charm to make herself less noticeable, and voila! (impatient reader....) I'm glad the potion is coming along; blue algae sounds very rare. I pulled the blue algae thing off a website while I was doing research. Gotu kola is also a real herb that I found on a website. Anyway, I tinkered with the idea of letting Hermione try to go behind his back and visit the person in the hospital, but I didn't want her to go too far and make it difficult for him to forgive her. She won't have to wait but a few hours before Snape will be introducing her to someone anyway...
Hey, wouldn't it be a hoot if the mystery coma patient was... Sirius?!?!? LOL!!!!Peace!

I thought about sending her back to the hospital, but I don't think Snape could easily forgive her for prying that much into his personal life. I also think she would feel extremely guilty. At any rate, Snape will ask her to meet the person in the coma very soon.
Once again awesome chapter. It is driving me insane wondering who this mystery patient is.

When I uploaded the first chapter, the story was untitled. I had no idea what to name it. So, I scanned through the last few chapters looking for a phrase that popped out. "Love him in my absence" stood out in the last chapter. One reader was confused about the title and told me that she thought it was a bit melodramatic. I promised that I would tie it in with the story. As of right now, it *is* a melodramatic title for the fic that has been uploaded so far. However, I think it will all come together once the last chapter is uploaded.

Yes, Southern has been extremely fast about valdating my chapters on TPP. Ashwinder is just a bit overloaded at the moment with the switch to Mage and all. Anyway, glad you like the chapter!
