Reviews for Root Cause
" (...) This is known as the Bee Routine, a honey of a spell. It is a comb-ination of combinatorial hexes for a wholesome purpose.” Love Professor Galland's honeycomb and other apiaristic references--HA! Wonderful! Enjoying the differing contributions of the editor and Biff's, how the characters are being drawn together, their observations and interactions--lovely narrative and dialogical content--great chapter!
Response from MHaydn (Author of Root Cause)
Yes, Galland is atrocious. The characters are gathering, forming into groups, and squaring off.
Biff and the editor... are back!!! What a wonderful Easter weekend! *happy dance & grinning with anticipation of the next chapter!* Yes, what lower depths will they further descend into only to ascend, weaving their tale of intrigue as they go? Can't wait!
Response from MHaydn (Author of Root Cause)
Thanks. While writing this I kept thinking the Biff-editor vehicle had no life left in it, and it is true that the original 'Story with No Plot' is wilder, but we will see what happens.
There are such currents of need through the attempted avoidance, breathtaking honesty and vulnerability between these two--it's extremely powerful and moving. Draco being unable to hold back, hold up a pretence any longer, his plunging on in and forward, forging a bond between them on another level as well as Luna's reciprocation equally, in all her glorious quirkiness and beauty--again, very powerful and lovely, lovely work! The writing is humorous, poignant, intricate and exquisite, as always, and the dynamics and development of these two have me completely gaga--thank you! Just what I needed!
Response from MHaydn (Author of Root Cause)
While writing this chapter, the main concern was that no reader would be interested in this pairs' insecurities, false starts, and clumsy connecting even though there seemed to be no other way of depicting this couple. Acquaintances also remark that this style is demanding of the reader. Hence, your comments are very welcome. There are hints even in canon that, despite appearances, these two have strong feelings looking for the proper channel.
Response from nagandsev (Reviewer)
Imho, it is exactly 'this pairs insecurities, false starts, and clumsy connecting' that caused me to have a kinesthetic experience as a reader, fully engaged and experiencing them/the writing-- like a lighting bolt, kept me zapped in, moment to moment--I guess in my long-winded way, I'm trying to say this is what has brought them to life in such a profound way to me as a reader--their insecurities and false starts are so very *real* and universal, and because it is Luna and Draco, who are rarely ever written in this light, it is all the more profound... and wonderful. Truly wonderful reading experience. Again, for me, this style keeps me on my toes, edge of my seat, as a reader--which I personally appreciate and enjoy that you as a writer can evoke such a reaction--*demanding* can be a good thing--lol! --in the sense that I feel it's in human nature to be challenged and stimulated, especially in the arts, thus, again, your artistic writing style. Absolutely agree about your observations in canon about these two. Again, from the peanut gallery, I'm looking forward to more of your *demanding* style if you so wish to create/write it that way... or any other way!
Loved Luna's haiku--HA! Pansy is making other decisions and seemingly moving on with her life... hmmm. Enjoyed that Theo is understanding and supportive of Padma's interest, as well as the blunt honesty and observations between Hermione and Adolf--the raids have been successful! Great chapter!
Response from MHaydn (Author of Root Cause)
Glad you like the chapter. A dainty haiku from Miss Lotus Blossom. After a fling (aka PWP), Pansy may be reverting to type. Theo is thinking, "Omigod! She's adorable. Omigod!" Hermione has never been one to clamp down on her anger. The raids - stealing money the government wants to confiscate - moral ambiguity reaches a new plateau.
Interesting development between Professor Galland and Hermione--he seems to be there for her just how she needs him to be. Loved the switch of the real identity papers with the forgeries. Yes, sports celebrities... but she's in a class of her own, and glad Harry & Ron's image came in handy. Glad Draco & Luna's initial misunderstanding became clarified--deep current of intensity there. Lovely vignettes, great chapter!
Response from MHaydn (Author of Root Cause)
Thanks for all the comments. The Adolf-Hermione thing appears to be sneaking up on both of them. What will being in a class of her own, her isolation, cause her to do? Draco and Luna are constantly overcoming obstacles.
What the hell is living in the Black House? poor Deaco, it never pays to ignore Luna.
Response from MHaydn (Author of Root Cause)
Somethinjg ferocious, that's for sure. Is Luna the infallible outsider she once was?
What will the raid uncover? will Hermione have her heart broken? Can't wait to find out.
Response from MHaydn (Author of Root Cause)
The raid will uncover a suprise. Heartbreak for Hermione may not be from romance.
What is hidding in the darkness. are small rodents all it eats, or will it be seeking larger prey? On to the next chapter to fimd out.
Response from MHaydn (Author of Root Cause)
We will have to see if it eats the plot - whatever that might be after Biff and the editor make their contributions.
The God of short sentences needs to get his priorities right, editor needs him so much. Pansy seems to have a little crush, doesn't she.
Response from MHaydn (Author of Root Cause)
The god of short sentences may be an over-worked, minor deity. We'll see if Pansy can both stay in character and be a character reader's can identify with.
I wonder if the Hogwarts Professors will run into Draco and Luna.
Response from MHaydn (Author of Root Cause)
If I understand the review, you are asking if different groups will go after the entity and get in each others way. Biff and the editor have written such stories. Will they do it again or try something new?
'With her editor’s eagle eye, she was able to detect when the god of short sentences had dashed off to help another struggling author, probably someone writing heroic adventure stories for young boys.'--HA! This, the muffins, and the entire plot thickening is so very wonderful! Can really feel Biff and the editor's different approach and quandaries; as characters within their plot, enjoying Pansy's observations of the other characters' development and interaction and the mystery surrounding Professor Adolf Galland... Hmmm, I am with her wondering about which or whose 'side' is he on, if any.... Great chapter!
Response from MHaydn (Author of Root Cause)
The editor, no doubt, is a budding fan-fiction site administrator. It's hard to say how much of Pansy's musings are wishful thinking.
Response from nagandsev (Reviewer)
A budding fan-fiction administrator--absolutely! Poor dear--lol! Looking forward to whichever way Pansy's musings go... or not!
