I picked up the Harry Potter fandom around the time the first movie came out and began writing fanfic early 2005 after discovering the adult online community. I identify most closely with the Slytherins and you will see my taste in writing lends me to writing about Slytherins more often than not. In addition to fanfiction, I also make fanvids on the Harry Potter fandom. I'm a Perfect Imagination acredited beta and am willing to help authors. My main 'ship interests are Snape/OC (never really got into the SS/HG pairing) and LM/any female (with HG as a new favorite). I have dabbled in RL/OC and RL/NT and am okay with those pairings. I generally shy away from slash, just not my thing. For updates on my writing, check out my Live Journal

Grrrrrrrr... It still bothers me that Dumbledore would have been so cavalier about Severus' future. Even if he didn't think he would survive teh war, he should have taken much more care in providing proof of Severus' innocence.
Grrrrrrrr... more grumbling is called for.
Beth
Author's Response: It definitely seems cavalier, but he needed to ensure that Severus' cover wasn't blown. In the books I often wonder if Harry hadn't received Severus' memories, what would have become of his legacy? I think he might have been destined to be known as a traitor and murderer. On that note, I wrote Felix Felicis to kind of stick a middle finger at JKR and her treatment of Snape.
Woo Hoo! the potions worked and now Hermione can devote all her attention to finding the information Dumbledore neglected to provide to prove that Severus did not kill him. (I'm pretty pissed off with Dumbles right now.)
Now it's time for Hermione to get a move on and find out what Dumbledore has to say for himself.

I was so happy to get the email that you had updated this story!!! I'm starting over from the beginning and I'm going to thoroughly enjoy myself!Beth
Author's Response: Thank you for your patience. I hope the end is satisfying for you. It was good for me to finally get it finished. I had honestly forgotten until after I posted 'Broken, Beaten, Scarred' and was looking through the other stories I had posted here and saw this one was not complete. One checked off the list, now to work on 'New Beginnings'.
A very clever hiding place, and no wonder Hermione was the one who would be able to open it. After all, the puzzle set by Severus in the first book was about logic, just as those wooden puzzles are too.
I predict a very loud Harry and Ron shaped explosion when Hermione and Severus' relationship hits the media, though I daresay Severus and Hermione will cope admirably given the findings of the Wizengamot. :)
Hmm, Dumbledore's keeping box has me very intrigued, and I'm wondering if what it is in reality is something Dumbledore would always (even in death) keep very close to him. It would explain why it's so hard to find - or not find - in Dumbledore's effects.
And the attraction spills over, though they've both still got relatively cool heads. It's tentative, though neatly and very pleasantly answers the question the pair of them have been dodging, and opens the way for some interesting times ahead - for both of them. :)
I am lost in admiration for Hermione, in not knocking Harry and Ron's heads together, she has shown a level of restraint that almost defies belief. Thank goodness the trial was not a long drawn out ordeal. Now Severus and Hermione can begin to look to the future.
I'm so glad the trial is over, and that it wasn't long, drawn out, and complicated. Now about that Potions work for two ...

I'm sure this was helped along by the fact Minister for Magic Arthur Weasley deep down wanted to believe in Severus, but was just waiting for proof. And now he can get on with his life and finally, finally live his own life. :)

I wanted to smack Harry & Ron what dunderheads. The truth will et you free so they say I hope every one believes that he was always on the side of light. Now Severus & Hernione can move forward. Loved this chapter.

Ron and Harry can be so thick-headed, can't they? Of course they just spent 7 years loathing Severus, but honestly, loads of other people trusted him. Hopefully they will begin to come around. And Hermione definitely made her choice, didn't she?

Is it too much to hope that this vial really holds the appropriate memories? *crosses fingers*. Dumbledore is sure making them work for this.
Response from phoenix (Author of Work Release)
Of course he's making it work. When has Dumbledore done anything straightforward. ;)

I hope that after Severus is finally freed, he treats the portrait of that horrible, nasty, condescending old man to a good long dose of fiendfyre. Hermione could be less condescending, too. Gloomy Gus! What a trivialization of Snape's suffering! Being optimistic or pessimistic is something one is born with. It doesn't change fundamentally, and considering how Snape's miserable life has reinforced his natural pessimism, Hermione should stop expecting him to become a Cheery Charlie. It isn't going to happen.
Response from phoenix (Author of Work Release)
LOL I'm sure that fiendfyre is something that has crossed his mind more than once, though I wouldn't be surprised if headmaster portraits have some sort of protection to prevent their destruction.Poor Hermione, while she started as a bit of an outcast, just never faced the hardship he did. I think they are both going to have to learn a lot about the other person's personality.

Arrrgggghhh! I cannot believe you left us with this cliffie. All I can think about is that this memory won't be the right one –or might even be damning –but then there's always Aberforth's mother's jewelry box... there might be another memory in there or something else that will clear Severus' name. If push comes to shove, Severus and Hermione can always move to the Continent and start over.I hope that next chapter posts soon!!!Beth

<eg> And there was this sort of cliffie just for that sort of reaction. Don't worry, the resolution will be up soon.I'm sure that Severus is thinking exactly what you are. In fact, he already has his plan for starting a new life elsewhere laid out.

I'm hanging from that cliff, and hoping I can hold on until the next Chapter is up. I really, really, really want to know what is in that memory. The way Hermione reacts is very believable, and a nice change from throwing herself at him and tearing his robes of. (Not that there is anything - whatsoever! - wrong with that, but sometimes smething different can be very good too.)

I've loved seeing everyone's reaction to the cliffie. Sadly end of school and visiting family has put a damper on the updating schedule, but the next chapter should be up very soon.I'm glad you like Hermione proceeding cautiously. I've never had anything against the 'had on crush on Severus for several years' Hermione, but it is fun to work with one who finds herself having to deal with emerging feelings and not just trying to convince him there could be something between them. Thanks for reviewing.

I am quite optimistic about their relationship even if Severus is not fully exhonerated, but I wonder how much of his behaviour is still deliberate, part of a plot?
Response from phoenix (Author of Work Release)
I do think she is considering what it would mean to uproot and go elsewhere and is not against it. After all, it's not like she has established herself in the wizarding world independent of her connection with Harry. And one always has to wonder what Severus is up to. He's had to keep secrets for so long, I don't know that he knows who he is anymore.

Well, he laid the cards on the table as it were. Mmmm a Severus who cooks AND can do magic. I add that last part simply because my husband used to cook for me but the disaster he'd leave behind for me to clean up made me decide me cooking was less work.
Response from phoenix (Author of Work Release)
I hear you on the husband mess left over after cooking. I like to clean up as I go so all that's left is the actually pots and pans being used, but he just leaves a trail of destruction. And Severus was most definitely not shy about his intentions/desires, was he?

Yay! The potions worked beautifully, and now it's time for Severus and Hermione to get started on proving that Severus had acted on Dumbledore's order. I wonder where Albus would have left the unimpeachable proof? Surely he wouldn't have left Severus completely without a way to clear his name... would he?Now, where will Severus stay? Will he be able to stay at the safe house with Hermione—at least until he can get Spinners End fit for habitation? Will his Gringott's account still contain his savings? I have so many questions!!!Beth
Response from phoenix (Author of Work Release)
One would hope Dumbledore wasn't a complete arse and had at least a little faith that Severus might survive. As for the other questions, hopefully you will find them all answered as the story goes on. Thanks for reviewing.

I'm enjoying this so far! Can't wait to read more. I am a huge sucker for Snape gets out of Azkaban stories.
Response from phoenix (Author of Work Release)
I'm glad you are enjoying it. After everything he's been through, I think he is one person deserving of a nice quiet life without being bothered, so he definitely did not belong in prison or being a wandless wizard or even on the fringes of society.

Wonderful--so his program produced an antidote, with Hermione's help, that cured all those people. (Why am I not really surprised?) And now he's got Hermione on his side, by the simple expedient of calling her by her first name and setting out her breakfast. But clearly there was a predisposition there on both sides. So now we move into the mystery phase: Where did Dumbledore leave the exonerating materials? My bet would be Severus's Gringotts account, and the goblins are covering it up, since they're getting some of the reparations? Or is there something off about Minerva? (I can't believe she'd abandon Severus.) Well, I look forward to finding out which it is!
Response from phoenix (Author of Work Release)
Well, Hermione loves a good cause with an underdog and I'm sure his emotional outburst at her in prison really got her curiosity going, but she had to push it aside for their task. Now she can devote her full attention to the cause of proving Dumbledore was an arse and Severus was a pawn. ;) I hope you enjoy the rest of it.

Wait... don't stop there! So they healed the patients, will Severus be freed? Can't wait for the next chapter!

Thank you for posting this. I am curious to see what your Severus does...

He's certainly being Slytherin, isn't he? So it is worth seeing what he does, isn't it? Thank you for the review.

I realize he's manipulating her, but it's not in a bad way. Seems as if Hermione wants to be manipulated, like she needs a cause. What, exactly, is her current existence like? Color me intrigued...
Response from phoenix (Author of Work Release)
She really does seem to thrive when she has a 'cause' doesn't she? So Severus is actually doing her a favor, isn't he? More information on Hermione is coming in later chapters. :)

Thank you for this intrigueing story. It is interesting to read about a Hermione who is distrustful about Severus and I am looking forward to more.

I'm glad you are enjoying. Right now no one really trusts Severus. Of course, he hasn't done much lately to earn it, at least not that anyone is aware of.

It seem very unfair that others have been released, and Severus is still in Azkaban, there should be evidence that he spied for the order. I have faith that Hermione is smart enough to see the truth, given time.
Response from phoenix (Author of Work Release)
It is unfair. Dumbledore apparently left him out to hang and with his supposed act of murder and the fact he's not wealthy, he became the sacrificial lamb. Now he just has to convince a certain tenacious Gryffindor of the truth. :)
