That really hit hard when you find out more about Dumbledore, doesn't it? Though I was starting to get cracks in the pedestal in HBP, but to see how he used Harry and others over the years without concern for what it did to them hurt. Snape here is milder because he's more or less on the verge of giving up. He's just tired of being used for years and everything he had to go through and he's trying not to get his hopes up too much. Thank you for reviewing and I hope you like the rest of the story, too.

Dumbledore grew more and more exasperating as the series went on and I really do think that after 7th year she would have really changed her view on him, especially with some of Rita's revelations - which she would realize there would be some embellishment, but her innocence filter is gone now. More chapters will be coming. I'm planning on this being 8 chapters long. The next one will be in the next day or so.

I'm glad you are enjoying it so far. While this one is set after the war, I wrote this before DH came out (or the main concept of it), so the events of her 7th year happened differently. He was never bit by Nagini and thus never shared his memories with Harry. I did adopt some events that did not interfere with my original concept, which will become clear in the story.

Being the conniving sneak Dumbledore is, he did not reveal this information to Minerva, because she wouldn't have been able to do anything with it. You'll see more about why in future chapters. More of his things have to be done at the proper time no matter what sort of suffering waiting until then brings. Infuriating man, isn't he?

I know. He gets the short end of the stick. It's so disheartening in the beginning how he starts to argue his case with her only to give up because he knows it's futile. Hopefully he can find some glimmer of hope to hang onto.

You really don't get one from him, do you? I mean who else would send a 17 year old wizard off on some sort of hopeless quest with very little preparation, not to mention not telling him the fact that you were going to die? He's infuriating, even as a portrait, isn't he? Something tells me the old man was a bit surprised that Severus actually survived. I was going to say better hope it wasn't in the Room of Requirement is one option since this was written pre-DH and selectively complies with it, but you'll just have to see.

Well, this is Snape so Hermione has to assert herself. Both to show him his place to to exorcise her own demons. And yes, poor Snape really did seem to always get the bad end of things. Hopefully you find this end less bad than what JKR did to him.
