Seven years after the Final Battle, Severus Snape has been declared dead, and his property has reverted to the Ministry. Desperate to get away from her deadbeat job, Hermione purchases the Prince manor with the intention of renovating it, inheriting with it a rather forlorn house-elf, empty stables, and a well-stocked library. And, to her surprise, the ghost of one of Snape’s ancestors. Or is it?

The Tenant of Lyonesse Hall is on a temporary hiatus. Look for an update in winter 2012!
Reviews for The Tenant of Lyonesse Hall
I am so enjoying the story. Can't wait for your next installment.
As for my guess: The Last Man by Mary Shelley. Lionel is the main character's name. He's the orphaned son of a nobleman. Self-willed. Perdita is his sister. She is proud and independent. Clara is her daughter.

DING DING DING! We have a winner! Yes, both names are taken from Shelley's The Last Man. And honestly, I'd completely forgot that the name Clara was in there! - it was the name Shug picked out for her cameo. :-) I couldn't resist renaming Severus "Lionel," a.k.a. the last man, and tho' I was tempted to name the horse Idris (the more maternal figure), she insisted on being called Perdita. Am ridiculously thrilled that you got it. 10 points to your house!
And as I found out just now Edmund Clarence Stedman is an author of a poem The Blameless Prince. I nearly wish that my pick is not what you meant because it would be nice weird occurence and I love pleasant weird occurences :-). Anyway this could be the reason why you picked the name for "ghost". And the poem Perdita, although I can´t understand it quite to the detail resembles unrestrainedness and energy of Severus´s Perdita. So that´s my answer to the second part of your question. Great chapter by the way. And great game, it picked my curiosity. Can´t wait to read the next chapter.

How marvelous! I'll have to check it out!
When I was contemplating the story I was wondering if we will have Snape or his ancestor as a ghost. I coudn´t decide which option I would like better and now I have them both. Yupee!!! It is great that he is impersonating someone else, that way he doesn´t need to be his old self, living to his old teacher persona. Also the dynamic is not in the rank of the usual. Hermiona is not chasing the ghost, she dismised the whole thing quite easily. And Snape all bored and lonely is the one who iniciates the contact. Well and Perdita is a poem by Florence Earle Coats I stumbled upon it quite recently but I had to google that the poem is part of An American Anthology edited by Edmund Clarence Stedman. I seriously don´t know if that´s IT. But I thought it would be fun to watch how many different works will come up :-)

The poem is not it, but thank you for playing! SS/HG readers are so very well read. It's been a pleasure to see everyone's guesses. And I'm very glad that you enjoyed the twist of Severus as both corporeal and, well, ghost. :-)
Thank you for a great update.

You're very welcome! :-)
An Arabian ghost horse? Do you KNOW how much I LURVE you right about now??? And sexy (if lonely), flirtatious (with the married Shug lady), scheming (for her own good!) Severus is just about more than one little fangurl can take in. Can't wait to see where this goes next!Squeeee!!
Response from lady_rhian (Author of The Tenant of Lyonesse Hall)
I have an idea. :-) And I love that you love this Severus. ~squish~
oh you must keep going with this story!
Response from lady_rhian (Author of The Tenant of Lyonesse Hall)
I plan to. ~grin~
SO GOOD!! I'm just eating this up. I love it! A lonely but still devious Snape is quite scrumptious! I am eagerly awaiting the next installment.

Thank you! So very glad you enjoyed the turn of events.
That was brilliant, and Severus is not a ghost! Squee! Can`t wait to see where you take this, and a rakish Snape? LOL.... it would truly be difficult for Hermione to even suspect that this rakish!Edmund is her dour former Potions Professor. Greatly anticipating the next update, thank you!
Response from lady_rhian (Author of The Tenant of Lyonesse Hall)
Thank you! So glad you enjoyed the twist-ish twist.
Great update!Well, Perdita is the daughter of Hermione and Leontes in The Winter's Tale. Lionel could be an updated version of Leontes-both seem to derive from the root word lion.
Response from lady_rhian (Author of The Tenant of Lyonesse Hall)
As I wrote to DawnEB, I've never read AWT and so had no idea of the Perdita/Leontes/Hermione connection, but it is delicious! This is part of what I love about SS/HG - such well-read readers. :-) So glad you're enjoying it.
Well, I like the fact that Severus isn't really a ghost, and look forward to how this will work out. And I want to see him in that outfit I'm presuming the connection is probably A Winter's Tale, as Perdita was Hermione's daughter, but out of Charlotte, Clara, Edmund and Lionel, I can't make another connection (unless I should read Lionel=Leontes)
Response from lady_rhian (Author of The Tenant of Lyonesse Hall)
I've never read A Winter's Tale and so had no idea about the Perdita/Leontes connection, but that is positively delicious! Thank you for bringing it to my attention. And I'm quite glad you're enjoying the fact that Severus is not a ghost. :-)
I am really enjoying this story and there are only two chapters so far:) I wonder what Severus is up to.I wonder what Hermione is going to do when she discovers he isn't a ghost. I have a lot of wonders about this story, but the one thing I don't doubt is the quality of the writing. It's brilliant:)Warm regards,Fizzabella

Thank you, dear! Your words have me glowing over here. I am so glad you're enjoying the story - and the fact that Severus is corporeal. :-)
Perdita is from '101 Dalmations' and Edmund is "The Count of Monte Cristo'. At least that's where I've read the names. I don't remember a Perdita in 'Monte Cristo", but it's been a few years. *grin* The other white horse is the Lippazan, isn't it? And is Shug supposed to be Clara?
Response from lady_rhian (Author of The Tenant of Lyonesse Hall)
Good guess, but the two names I'm thinking of are from the same work, which makes things tricky (and you're correct, there isn't a Perdita in The Count of Monte Cristo). And yes, Shug is Clara. :-)
So great. I have a feeling this is exactly the kind of story I've been hunting for in fanfiction. Can't possibly wait for the next chapter. Thanks for writing!
Also, I felt empathy triumph when Hermione quit her job. Good for her! I was also cheered by Pip warming up to Hermione after realizing she had no interest in the ledgers.
From the first chapter I get a sort of Pride and Prejudice sort of feel. Doubt my expectations are too high, I have a good feeling about this one. :)
Response from lady_rhian (Author of The Tenant of Lyonesse Hall)
Thank you! I'm so glad you're enjoying it, for the details you mention and more. I am growing to be quite fond of Pip and so am thrilled that readers are enjoying him (and his attitude). :) Chapter two should be up within a few days, so be on the lookout for it!
LOL. Sprung! :)
Well, I originally read this on a different site and left a review there, but then I went looking for it on other sites hoping that maybe you had posted more of the story somewhere else. I was devasted to see it marked here as "abandoned". I actually just got back into reading fanfiction after over a decade away, so I definitely understand stepping away when life demands it. For me it was nursing school, the death of my mother, becoming a military spouse, and now I've only picked it back up as I'm halfway through pregnancy with my 4th child! I hope whatever in your life has drawn you away that it is for happy reasons. But I also hope you come back to finish this story someday. I have read all of yours that I have found posted now and have really enjoyed them. Thank you.
I'm so glad with this update. I'm not sure I have reviewed this chapter already on OWL but I have difficulties entering that site so I thought it couldn't do harm to review here even if it might be for the second time.I must confessed I was at first a bit surprised that Hermione did not tell Pip in plain English that Blaise is gay, but I understood after her talk with 'Edmund' she was just fed up being confronted with Pip's old fashioned thinking before breakfast. Let's hope Snape is soon convinced that Blaise is just a friend.I'm glad Edmund warned her not to deplete her magic while working on the house, that's definitely something she needs to know and I like the way the are befriending each other. I'm curious if there are more precautions she needs to take while restoring a magical manor. I had this renovation expected to be done much quicker, but apparently magic is not always an advantage. What worries me slightly is how Hermione will react when she finally will find out Snape is not a ghost. Will she be mad at him for toying with her? I am aware this highly depends from the circumstances in which she discovers this and you promised us some mystery as well. So if she needs to be rescued from some mortal danger in which it's highly convenient that other people think Snape is a ghost who is haunting the house, she might forgive him :-)
Response from lady_rhian (Author of The Tenant of Lyonesse Hall)
I have been remiss in responding to reviews; the end of the semester was rather brutal. As it stands, chapter six has been posted, so go and take a look! *grin* You have some nice observations and guesses - you will forgive me if I remain mum on the subject? :-) Thanks so much for reading, dear.
Well, hay
Will You be posting any new chapter in near future?I really like to know what happend next in their life.
Sorry to bother You.
Best regards fromLora
I told myself I would not permit myself to get sucked in by this story until it was complete, but your writing had other plans. And now there's cliffie?
Ledgers? The papers Pip was talking about? What good are they?
When do I get to find out?
Update, update! :D This will not be forgotten!
I'm so glad I was able to find your updates here. This is a wonderful, compelling story. I can't wait to see just how you work it all out. Thanks for posting--

I'm glad Andromeda is calling him on his shit. :) And I'm *really* glad he overheard the Ministry drone... and I'm curious about what's in the ledgers! :D Great update!
Love the deeper chracterization of Adromeda, her challengeing Severus on his motives.
Severus has dug himself into a hole. Can't wait until Isee how you resolve this. Hee!
Every time Severus thinks he's distancing himself, he finds another reason to stick around! LOL!
Well, at least we know what Goetz wants now, but the question is: why? And I like that you made Andromeda an empath. It would explain so much why she didn't join Voltagemeter when her sisters did. ^_^
Awright, you've never told us what is in these ledgers, but I will take any excuse for Severus to not leave. The nerve of him, to think about leaving Hermione now! C'mon, Andromeda -- time to hex Severus. Hex, hex, hex!
Thank you for the new chapter.
