Seven years after the Final Battle, Severus Snape has been declared dead, and his property has reverted to the Ministry. Desperate to get away from her deadbeat job, Hermione purchases the Prince manor with the intention of renovating it, inheriting with it a rather forlorn house-elf, empty stables, and a well-stocked library. And, to her surprise, the ghost of one of Snape’s ancestors. Or is it?

The Tenant of Lyonesse Hall is on a temporary hiatus. Look for an update in winter 2012!
Reviews for The Tenant of Lyonesse Hall
Thank you for updating!!! A sentient manor house participating in the renovation is fascinating....I'm really looking forward to reading more of this!
Response from lady_rhian (Author of The Tenant of Lyonesse Hall)
I hope so! Very glad you're enjoying it so far.
Yeah! A new chapter. And it's a clever one, too. is Edmund, Edmund? Or Severus still playing around at being a ghost? Loved the publican's comment about Hermione. ^_^
Response from lady_rhian (Author of The Tenant of Lyonesse Hall)
It's Severus; Edmund was his ancestor but the "ghost" is his invention (the illusion the story is predicated on). And yes ... Jim's comment about Hermione hits a little too close to home with Severus, me thinks!
You have a lot to love in this chapter, LR. I'm very happy that Pip didn't see fit to hit himself with the Le Cruset. That would have been the end of the nosy house-elf. I wonder if Edmond's Hyacinth is comparable to Severus' Lily, an unrequited love? This sensient manor is still a mystery not eager to unfold. No wonder Hermione wants Edmond to be her Bob Villa for the renovation, even though he technically couldn't lift a finger to help, just delegate. Sage yarn? Nice homage, dearest. And Susan is either Ari, an avid knitter, or perhaps tonksinger. I don't know if Dicky knits.
Response from lady_rhian (Author of The Tenant of Lyonesse Hall)
Thank you, dear! Yes, hitting himself with that kind of cookware may have done some damage (ouch - poor Pip!). I love reading your thoughts on the manor and on the relationship between Edmund and "Hyacinth" vs. Severus and Lily ... ~remains tight-lipped~ And Susan is Ari (who the fic is for); tonksinger knits but I'm putting her in a later chapter. :-)
Now he has the completely wrong end of the stick regarding Hermione and Blaise. :)
Response from lady_rhian (Author of The Tenant of Lyonesse Hall)
*evil author laugh*
Hmm could Susan be Ari herself the receipiant of this lovely fic. I am anxious to see what is coming for Hermione and "Edmund"
Response from lady_rhian (Author of The Tenant of Lyonesse Hall)
Ding ding ding! Ari is Susan. Glad you enjoyed the chapter, hon. *squish
~Smooches Blaise for wanting to take care of Hermione.~Blaise can be a little trouble maker, but he does have a heart of gold! It looks like Hermione is learning a great deal about magical renovation. I do hope she heeds Edmund's warning about magical depletion. She's definitely getting antsy about just getting on with the renovations! I have several ideas about Susan, none of which are likely to be correct. My first thought was Susan Bones' Aunt Amelia Susan Bones who was allegedly killed by Death Eaters. Another thought was that she is related to the oft mentioned Hyacinth Grey. I do like her a great deal, though. I shall contentedly wait to find out who she really is.“I’m just sayin’, you don’t see arses like that every day,”No, Jim. No you don't. And I'm quite sure Lionel/Severus/Edmund would like to get to know that one much better in the near future!
Response from lady_rhian (Author of The Tenant of Lyonesse Hall)
Blaise *does* have a heart of gold, and you just have to love him for the way he puts Severus in a tizzy over Hermione. And Susan is a cameo - see other comments :) - although your guesses were much more inventive than my reasons! I'm glad you're enjoying the mystery as it unfolds ... it continually surprises me and it's a joy that y'all are enjoying it, too.
Response from MoreThanSirius (Reviewer)
Oh, of course! I had forgotten this was written to prompt for a fantastic knitter. I'm sure she's loving every minute of it!
I'd like a little of the elf magic. :)
Response from lady_rhian (Author of The Tenant of Lyonesse Hall)
I would, too!
What fun! I love the herbal shop. And poor Severus, he likes her already. There's a lot going on in this story, and each chapter brings something new and interesting. I look forward to further chapters! Thank you for sharing.
Response from lady_rhian (Author of The Tenant of Lyonesse Hall)
Thank you! I apologize for the delayed review; I've had a lot of major life changes in the last few months but am hard at work on chapter five as we speak. Hoping to have a rough draft finished within a few days. Thanks again for your patience!
Lucky Shug! A cameo and a chance to flirt with Severus! This is just delicious. I love how Severus is getting up to a little mischief because he's lonely... and still bound to care for Hermione, especially after he sees her asleep.I wonder why she's crying in the library? Guilt over Severus's death perhaps?More intriguing developments in this chapter. I can't wait to see how you weave this whole lovely mystery/romance together!
Response from lady_rhian (Author of The Tenant of Lyonesse Hall)
My betas have been awesome, so I'm thinking they'll all get a cameo. Be on the lookout! And I am so very, very delighted that you're enjoying this. You'll forgive me if I don't answer your questions. :-) But hopefully chapter three will be written soon. (This week has been a bit crazy.)
He's faking it! He's making an illusion! LOL.
Response from lady_rhian (Author of The Tenant of Lyonesse Hall)
Indeed he is. Let's find out if he has your cosplay skills. :-)
I'm glad to read in your response to the reviews that Snape is just concerned for Hermione's overall wellbeing when being without wards and that there is no evil lurking around the corner of the manor. I do understand his concern and it's not just paranoia I think. Such a manor is a huge building and without wards and only one house elf around you'd have no idea if someone is just sneeking in at the other end of the building, too far away from you to hear it.And even without evil around, there is always a chance the two of them will find some mystery on their path. After all Granger has an inquisitive nature and a soft spot for history so there is no doubt she wants to know as much as possible about the historical background of the manor and all wizarding customs regarding the maintenance of manors before she will decide how she will restore it. And in doing this research togheter with her "ghost", they might stumble upon old family secrets, who knows? It really is impossible that such an old bloodline has survived all those centuries without having some secrets.I found the whole blood thing interesting as well. If the manor will always react to Snape's blood and considering him master of the property even after Granger has bought it, then there is only one logical solution: they should marry!
Response from lady_rhian (Author of The Tenant of Lyonesse Hall)
It's important to remember that the story uses close 3rd person POV - it's limited to the character's viewpoint and hence is occasionally unreliable. There is a mystery afoot, but Severus' paranoia exacerbates certain observations.Your speculations are delightful to read (you'll forgive me if I remain tight-lipped!), and I look forward to hearing your thoughts on the next chapter.
Still loving it, but I'm not entirely sure how he's going to pull it off. Is he trying to convince her he's a ghost, isn't he a little too much all together in the here and now, to pull that off? When his plan was to Obliviate her I was ready to slap him up, but it's interesting to see that he's actually having a great deal of fun with all this.:) And also a bit too much interest in our sleeping beauty Hermione and her curvy legs and lovely round arse. :-)
Response from lady_rhian (Author of The Tenant of Lyonesse Hall)
~remains tight lipped~ You shall have to wait and see in chapter three. :-) Although I would refer you to reread the portions where he's preparing to go to the manor... your question about his corporeal nature is answered there.
Aaaaack! You have sucked me in, I swore I would not start any new WIP's as my collection of them going right now is getting longer by the day. But I just couldn't resist and now I am hooked. I love the idea that Blaise and Hermione are good friends, and her exit from that Ministry dead-end job was fab.The concept for the story is unique which makes it even more interesting. And I love the visual treat of actually being able to see Lyonesse Hall. (I'd love to live there). Hope your muse is hot because all your fans are going to be begging for more (myself included). ;)
Response from lady_rhian (Author of The Tenant of Lyonesse Hall)
I hear you on the wanting to resist WIPs, but I am positively thrilled that the story has ensnared you. :-) Your reviews are lovely to read and I'm looking forward to getting your take on the next chapter.
Wow! He makes an impressive entrance on horseback and then takes a shower. That's why we love this guy!I don't know why Severus is so concerned about Hermione's safety, but if his hackles are up about it, that's enough for me! The Ministry's behavior is certainly odd and no one in their right mind would trust them. Glad to see Severus riding to the rescue ... on an Arabian horse, no less!Shug's cameo is priceless. However, i'm a bit pouty about her getting to flirt with Severus. Not fair. That's the dream of every fangirl!Bless Perdita for saving Severus! I love the thought of magical animals colluding to save him from such a horrible end.I'm not sure how he's going to pull this whole ghost thing off, but I can't wait to see him try!
Response from lady_rhian (Author of The Tenant of Lyonesse Hall)
~grins~ I know the shower scene is a bit fanficy, but I couldn't resist. And I'm so glad you like Perdita - I'm already inordinately fond of her and am very much wishing she really existed. I'm so very, very glad that you're enjoying it, mts. ~hugs you~
The Last Man ... Lionel = Snape, Perdita & Clara....? Hmmmm. And, you said we already have an orphan? Hmmmms some more. Assuming Shug's not Snape, Hermione, Perdita or Pip, I'm going with Clara. And, my thoughts so far ~ LOVE IT ~ although, that's a wicked place to leave the chapter!
Response from lady_rhian (Author of The Tenant of Lyonesse Hall)
Indeed, The Last Man! SS/HG readers are so well read. And yes, Pip is an orphan house-elf. :-) So very glad that you're enjoying it, dear!
Oooooh! Severus certainly knows how to make an entrance! I don't blame Hermione for telling the Ministry to take a flying leap. She deserves to have a project that she can truly throw herself into. Bless Blaise for suggesting it. Pip is an absolute joy! I'm so glad he has Hermione for company now!~Scurries off to chapter 2.~
Response from lady_rhian (Author of The Tenant of Lyonesse Hall)
~grins~ So thrilled to have you reading, I can't even express myself properly.
*sputters* OBLIVIATE HER!?! grrrrrrr *scrolls back up to read what actually comes after those two words.
Response from lady_rhian (Author of The Tenant of Lyonesse Hall)
~gigglesnrt~
I do think this is going to bite Severus on the butt, but it is certainly going to be fun to watch him. Perdita? The lost? Clara reminds me of Dickens.
Response from lady_rhian (Author of The Tenant of Lyonesse Hall)
I think we're all going to enjoy watching him dance around the issue. :-) Thanks for reading, dear!
Shug is Clara and I am sure Jerry is not really worried about Lionel Smith. Heeee! Is Edmond Prince Charlotte's husband? Is that why she was being difficult? Are you going to switch back to Hermione's POV next chapter? Okay I can actually leave a review without 93 questions. Yes I can. Perdita and Fawkes rescuing Severus is unique. I don't beleive I have read another fanfic where magical creatures have saved him of their own accord. You will tell us more about Perdita and how she and Severus found each other right? Grrr a question slipped out. I cannot help myself!
Response from lady_rhian (Author of The Tenant of Lyonesse Hall)
Your reviews make me laugh, darlin', BECAUSE you ask so many questions! And you are such a good guesser (you called so many things in Sage before they happened, it just wasn't fair). So I am not going to answer your questions, except the one about Hermione's POV: yes, we'll get her take on things in the next chapter. And I am so happy you enjoyed Perdita and Fawkes rescuing Severus. I love Perdita.
Darn! He is not dead :( You just really know how to put a damper on my evening *sighs*LOL Seriously, I love the concept that Severus cannot stop his complusive caring (though he would scream to hear me say it). I think if he were truly to become a ghost it would be because he felt no one else would do a proper job as Head of Slytherin.{{squishes}}
Response from lady_rhian (Author of The Tenant of Lyonesse Hall)
Do I honestly strike you as the sort to do ghost/human fic? ~grin~ And I'm pleased that you're enjoying Severus-the-compulsive-carer. To my mind, it's been ingrained in him so long that it may be a hard habit to break... even if the object of said protection is tantalizing him with her tiny knickers. ~squishes~
I'm so glad Severus isn't a ghost. And I'm very, very curious about the manor. Why is he so concerned that Hermione is only a tenant and why does he think she needs protection? I see someone else has already picked up on the Mary Shelley reference ~grins~ And now, I'm very curious about why you chose these names.Looking forward to reading more!
Response from lady_rhian (Author of The Tenant of Lyonesse Hall)
He's overly paranoid, I think, about security, and he's honestly concerned for her safety, because as he notes, it was his business to be for so long. And once again, I must say that SS/HG readers are some of the best-read readers in the fandom! You all are marvelous. So very glad to have you reading this. :-)
Please please update soon - I`m dying to know how the story is going to unfold.
Response from lady_rhian (Author of The Tenant of Lyonesse Hall)
I must beg your patience - just started on chapter three today - but I'm so glad you're enjoying it.
Whew! You had me going there for a bit, thinking Severus was a ghost. Poor fellow must really be lonely or in need of some mischief is he plans to impersonate one of his dead ancestors just to keep an eye on Hermione. Or maybe he's been alone too long and the sight of all that creamy flesh done fried his brain. And what's the mystery of Lyonesse Hall, anyway? Okay, I know you can't answer that now, but Severus seems so concerned about Hermione's tenant status and Ministry interference that I'm all in a tizzy now. Oh, how I wish those portraits could speak, but I think there's a slim to none chance of that happening. I love how Fawkes and Perdita became his caregivers in his darkest hour. I can't imagine Crookshanks doing that for Hermione, though. Hurray for Shug's cameo... and flirting with Severus. What does he do for a living? I couldn't figure that out.
Response from lady_rhian (Author of The Tenant of Lyonesse Hall)
I think you might be correct on both counts. :-) And can I let you in on a little secret? Even I don't know the entire mystery of Lyonesse. Truth be told, it's becoming bigger than I imagined. Much of Severus' fear, though, has more to do with his paranoia/sensitivity to the fact that Hermione is not active in her own wards than it does with any mystery. So that is what I can say on that matter right now. And, thank you for loving Fawkes and Perdita. I do adore them. ~grins~
Oh, this ought to be good! Well, the whole story has been good so far, but how long before Hermione realises he's not a ghost? Looking forward to seeing what happens next!
Response from lady_rhian (Author of The Tenant of Lyonesse Hall)
That is the question, isn't it? So very glad that you're enjoying this, dear.
Oooh! Not a ghost, then... not that Hermione has any idea. All the more intriguing!
Response from lady_rhian (Author of The Tenant of Lyonesse Hall)
Indeed. :-) So glad to have you reading, dear.
