When Hermione's safety is threatened by a suspected traitor amongst the Order of the Phoenix, Snape is forced to protect her. As they work together to flush out the traitor and win the war, a new understanding begins to develop.
A response to the long-ago HP Chapter Challenge; HBP and DH ignored (except for the challenge sentences included!).

I'm a forty-something American woman who is addicted to the SSHG pairing, relatively new to this fandom. I'm also considering starting some original fiction soon...
Check out the story I co-wrote with Remarkable -- it's called "Hidden Attractions" and (as soon as it's through the queue) it's archived under the penname remarkable_linlawless.
For those who are interested, I've got two WIPs at my website (which I will eventually post here, but not until I have a complete draft). It's easy and free to join the website, so I hope you'll visit!
I am honored that my story, Witchy Woman, has been selected as a featured story for September 2010. Better yet, this honor came with the very awesome banner at the top of this post!
Here's a couple of banners my friend Atuliel made for the two WIPs at my website:

Things are working out so well! Must be trouble on the horizon ...
But I want them to be cozy with one another! *pouts at his "let's be proper" attitude*
Yikes, Percy was giving me the creeps here. I,too feel better with Snape there.
I like the way you worked in this quote. And the idea of bad boy Percy, lol.
Sounds like her summer might not turn out to be all that bad after all.
Seems like I read this before, but I don't recall what happens. I'm looking forward to finding out what is in store for these two.
Love the spin you put on the quotes -- especially the positive spin on the final one. :)

Your story is the first one I've read in this challenge!
Response from linlawless (Author of Target)
Wow, cool! I hope you liked it. Some of the other ones were good, so you should think about checking them out, too! Thanks for commenting!
Ah, I wondered why you'd chosen that particular sentence...given that Hermione was by then well aware that Sirius was loyal to the Order.
Response from linlawless (Author of Target)
Well, it's more like the challenge chose the sentence, and I had to come up with a plausible way to work with it. This was, not surprisingly, one of the more difficult ones! Thanks for commenting!
I like happily ever after's.

Me, too! Thanks for commenting!
Glad they finally get some time to explore their feelings.

Yep, me, too! Thanks for commenting!
Percy is such a creep, the whole Weasley family has now been put to shame because of his actions.
Response from linlawless (Author of Target)
Yes, poor Percy had to be the villain in this one. Maybe I'll write another story in which he's on the right side ... Thanks for commenting!
wow! that was a brilliant solution! thanks and mucho smoochies

I didn't read this story before, but if this had been the last chapter with everything packed in, I can see how one would feel rushed. Good thinking breaking it up. I am anxious to see what is next.I kind of like the dynamic fo the four of them working together. And I am in the very small minority of folks who actually like Ron, so I was pleased to see him treated well here.Imperius Nagini? Sounds like a good plan to me.And Severus and Hermione can finally have a relationship out in the open. Hopefully the boys know him well enough now to be ok with it. Looking forward to more.

Yeah, it felt rushed to me the old way, too, but I didn't even think about Beedle the Bard when I was originally writing it, and I wanted to stick to the challenge rules. Fortunately, the BB quote fit right in.It's funny, I don't dislike Ron, mostly -- although I really don't like him paired with Hermione, and he has his moments of being an utter prat (but then, so do Harry, Hermione, and Severus). I do think he's smarter than most people give him credit for.The last chapter should be posted in a few days, once I'm done tweaking it.Thanks for reviewing!
Yay. What a great idea, imperiousing the snake. Finally the right person got the fang treatment. LOL. Loved the kiss at the end.
Response from linlawless (Author of Target)
Hehehe, I'm glad you liked Voldie's end. I was trying to come up with something original. Severus and Hermione deserved a good kiss after the day they had, don't you think? Thanks for reviewing!
So glad she wasn't hurt at all! Was worried about that.
Response from linlawless (Author of Target)
Glad you liked it, and can breathe a sigh of relief! Thanks for commenting!
Good old Ron! :)
Response from linlawless (Author of Target)
Hehe, I love when he accidentally comes up with something brilliant. Thanks for commenting!
Well, that went rather well. Just goes to show that the best solution is often the simplest one. Now Severus and Hermione are free to explore their relationship.
Response from linlawless (Author of Target)
Yes, it did go well, didn't it? Glad you liked it. Thanks for reviewing!
this is fun. I like this type of challenge.

Hehe, it was fun to write! Thanks for reviewing!
Percy really has NO idea of how boring he is. :)
