I'm a 40 year old single mother of two, with a handful of mostly useless degrees. I started reading SS/HG fan fic a couple of years ago and it saved my sanity. Then I got the wild idea that maybe *I* could write some!

Good reasons all. Snape as a student, or at least observer, rather than teacher is interesting. :)

Puts them on a bit more of a level playing field. I'm not as keen on fanfics where there's a huge power disparity.
Good start. Off to read the next chapter. :)

Glad I've hooked you :)
At least he tried to stop her. I love the bit of hope in her, because that was so very not Severus.
Response from bluewillow (Author of The Thing With Wings)
Severus definitely has to move out of his comfort zone - which is harder to do when you're in your 40s than it is in you 20s! Hermione doesn't really appreciate how much he's having to progress in order to meet her halfway ;)
This is really fun. I'm loking forward to the next chapter.

Great chapter! I loved the part with Severus weighing the blanket with books and the both of them reading in companiable silence at the beach.
Author's Response: Thanks! It seemed likely that Snape had lots of books on hand...
Really interesting story thus far. Looking forward to the next chapter.

Thanks!
Snape in the Subway is a hilarious thought! But is it really that warm in New York in November?
Response from bluewillow (Author of The Thing With Wings)
It can be. But just to make sure, I started this chapter with: "November happened to be unusually mild.":)I've also lived in NY through some epic snowstorms - and it would have been fun to have written about Snape and Hermione skiing down Broadway, but I wanted them to have a private moment.
That is the most original demise for Voldie I've read in a long time. Imperio on Nagini to eat him then beheading, Harry still has a piece, no having to throw himself in front of a bus. You think far better than Dumbles.

Thank you! It came to me right when I was falling asleep one night. I think I often get my best ideas in that hypnagogic moment, but unfortunately, I tend to forget them if I don't write them down right at that instant. This one stuck with me :)
cool! what better place to meet up!! love the update. thanks and smoochies

I'm a big fan of bookstores, in general :)
i love the image of Severus Snape having, quite literally, a personal space bubble that he can actually enforce. handy thing, magic. this story is really cute so far; i like it a lot.
Response from bluewillow (Author of The Thing With Wings)
Thanks! It seemed as if the Magical community can put Muggle-repelling spells on areas or Notice-Me-Not spells on things, that witches and wizards could do something of the same. So I tried to imagine how that could manifest in a way that was unobtrusive but effective.
Its a good chapter but I thught I read this one already. It this posted some place else?

Bookstore browsing... a delightful pastime indeed. And not the worst opportunity for getting closer to each other, too ;o).
Author's Response: It's definitely one of my favorite ways to spend a weekend morning.
He's getting sucked in. Hee. I am enjoying this.

I think the idea of making a fresh start in one's life is very seductive. And Hermione is definitely a person who would think things through, don't you think?
